Different objectives. This is theater.
I had some interesting training last night, dealing with heavy bleeding wounds, such as gunshot wounds. The first thing we learned was how to use a Combat Application Tourniquet, such as this one. They are actually recommending a tourniquet be applied first if possible on a wound that is losing a lot of blood.
In cases where you can’t use a tourniquet - not available or in an area where a tourniquet cannot be applied, such as the neck - that you pack the wound and/or apply pressure. The instructors had these ammo boxes that had skin set up to look like a gunshot wound, which was connected to an IV bag so they could make liquid flow. We actually had to pack the wound until the flow stopped.

I think probably both, but the mix has not been announced. We certainly sent some F-18 Weasels into Syria before the Allied strike teams arrived to suppress the Syrian radars and SAM systems. There are probably also some post-strike recce birds or drones (kill ‘em with fill-um!) taking pictures to see how we did.
Depending on how much we have degraded the Syrian assets (i.e., blown shit up), I would expect follow-on missions tomorrow night, especially against Syrian strike helicopters and Sukhoi jet bombers. They’ve got 25 helos and around 120 jets. If you want to shut down their ability to deliver chem weapons, those are the obvious targets.
Note:
+/- 8 strike aircraft from from the UK/France plus whatever we threw into the mix isn’t going to kill 145 aircraft. Not even close. Most of their aircraft will be in armored revetments and would require smart bombs. And it appears the UK/French strikes were on Sarin/other war gas production sites.
We’d need to launch at least 70 sorties to kill their strike bombers and helos.
We aren’t going to do that. Too risky to aircrews. I think we probably went in and busted up a few easy targets and pulled a didimau out of there to let them lick their wounds.
We’ll see in the morning, but this looks like a very limited strike scenario.
Finally, the Constitution gives Congress, not the President, the power to declare war. The President must obtain congressional authorization to use military force in Syria, and it is unacceptable that he did not do so before ordering tonight’s military action.

Considering how complicated the instrument is, I imagine it is frightfully expensive (at least as much or more than a hammered dulcimer).
I have pickups in one of my dulcimers, but you have to have the instrument custom-built or retrofitted (and those aren’t cheap either).

We have to keep in mind that post 9/11 the newly popular thing of “blogs” became the collecting venues for the computer owner.
Today Twitter and Facebook take that role, which is why the death-of-blogging idea has been pushed the past couple of years.
I don’t think blogging is dead, it’s just not the short-fuse gossip network that it was in 2002, given Twitter is now the gossip-fest-machine.
Anyway, LGF started off as the toy of Charles (a musician with an inner nerd) and his love of cycling and music was evident.
When 9/11 happened, this blog like so many others became fixated on the aftermath.
The reaction to 9/11 was a real test of this country. In some ways we failed, I think, in living up to our ideals, but, on the other hand, many Americans did push back against irrational hatred. It’s hard to say we took the high moral ground, given the punish-the-Arabs war that Cheney et. al. pushed on GWB and the rest of the US establishment (who because of 9/11 fell all to easily to questionable reasoning about why going to war is a good thing.)
The post-9/11 crowd here had a strong reactionary contingent. Yet, there were some of us who were not really “right-wing” (whatever that means in the end.)
I registered here while I was living in Japan. In those days, during the GWB administration, LGF played a role for me to remain connected to the daily social-feeling here in the US.
Eventually Charles had to free himself of the reactionary right that had clung onto this blog. I’m glad he did, because as these things always go - angry crowds eventually turn into lynching mobs - keeping the hate-right around was only going to make things uglier, especially as the 2008 election approached.

The subject had rarely come up and had not been as politicized as it would be later, and is now. Even free republic had a pro-evolution faction, long since completely extinct. Looking back on it, I think it was during that period, 2007-8, that the right wing really took control of anti-science and weaponized it as a political force.

Before he changed to his successful format, I used to listen to Art Bell at night while he was doing a standard current-affairs program.
It was always a bit dryly “libertarian” in that sort of wild-west way. Art would have real curmudgeons call in and complain about the government, etc.
I suspect that Art realized, while having his studio in Vegas, that what makes entertainment popular is the audacity of it all.
His successful show, when he made it all about the fringe, had it’s high moments. At the height of surge of talk-radio, Art’s image would be center of the poster for Premier Radio Network and then Clear Channel, among all the other hosts they syndicated, even edging Limbaugh out of the main spot on the card.
Still, I think Bell’s success gives us a warning about America - that we’re a society of minds twisted by false information and magical beliefs. Bell was vastly superior to his rivals who tried similar stuff.
There were always conspiracy hosts on the radio, but Bell beat them all by being very entertaining. He also had the advantage that he knew quite a bit about radio, the engineering and physics, compared to his competitors, and could sound very, very convincing because of it.
I always wondered if he was surreptitiously paid by the government to spread false information about Area 51 and the testing facilities in the desert.
His worse shows were, I think, when he had on con-men like Whitley Strieber. These guests were very good at fictional stories, and many people bought into them.
Bell was a “worker” in the carney sense.

So our plan is to allow them to use chemical weapons, give them several days warning to move weapons to a safe place, and then bomb when it does minimal damage. And do nothing to help the refugees or Syrian people. Of course, Trump is only following Putin’s orders.
