I’m not the worlds biggest Pelosi fan but I must begrudgingly admit she is easily the best choice for the job.

Seafaring, coquito drinking Santa!  Nov 28, 2018 • 8:30:22pm

Sorry for going OT so soon …

I’ve always been coy about talking about anything related to work because, hey, you never know who’s reading.

I just lost my last fuck to give.

It starts with a YouTube video and a Twitter thread (and a similar Facebook thread) by a friend (all in Spanish):

Other links:

Rant

The video is a stream of last month’s University of Puerto Rico (UPR) governing committee meeting. In 1:56:00, the president of the UPR, Dr Jorge Haddock, talked about the IT systems. He made the disdainful remark that he had instructed the IT subdirector to look into canned software because the UPR has been using custom made software, and by the time these are completed, the software is obsolete.

Now, this disdain gets on my nerves. At the UPR level, the major software development has been Portal UPR, a project to modernize the systems. The project has had its problems, but it was on route to accomplish its goals. The biggest problem it had was personnel: it had too few people for the amount of work. Still, those working on it gave their best. And it’s not like Portal UPR is not in use. It’s currently running several key university processes, helping move away from the old systems.

But this transition had hit a recent wall. All the easy pickings were done, now the most difficult and time consuming tasks remained. And that’s where this story takes a macabre turn in July. Starting on July, the team working on the project was either returned to their original posts (those that were previously working in a UPR campus), or left on the curb without contract, with no warning and absolutely no explanation. All that was heard were calls for patience because the new president (Haddock) was very “pro-IT” and was coming with new ideas. Dr Haddock started as president on the first week of September, and the project manager, the only person still working on the project, was still ignored. After around 4 months of having his calls and emails ignored at best, or replied with empty platitudes at worse, the PM decided to quit.

A sub-team was cobbled together at the last minute to keep the project running, while Dr Haddock’s team was supposed to convince the PM back, one of the conditions the full team gave to return to the project.

The thread also points to other problems within the institution. Aside from the Portal UPR PM, I know of around 10 IT people we’ve lost, all of them high caliber talents, but only a handful to retirements. It’s not just the project that’s losing staff. the campuses regular IT offices are also losing people. Compounding the problem is that the UPR has had problems recruiting people in the past. In the current climate, it’s impossible nowadays.

Any other of my thoughts in this subject veer into tin foil territory.

Press pol got left behind at Christmas Tree lighting. By the time they finally got taken back the WH called a press lid for the evening. Also saw a retweet by someone at the same time that Trump appeared to have some unusual difficulty navigating the stairs to the stage at the ceremony. he had a “death grip” on Melania’s had for assistance.

I didn’t give it much weight at the time. No corroborating info anywhere else (much like that ‘phone call’ tweet). And, still none.
All anyone really seems to know is that it was seriously cold in DC this evening. Local weather was issuing hypothermia warnings. And Trump left the ceremony rapidly after the tree was lit, and that press pool (that should travel with him) was left behind.

He’s a 72 year old man who lives on a diet of fast food; overcooked steak; zero exercise; and is under constant stress by being in a job he’s dangerously under-qualified for. Being unable to navigate stairs is probably the least of his worries.

IIRC, this isn’t the first time Trump’s panicked in public over stairs. Theresa May had to keep him steady at an appearance a year or so ago. I’m sure he’s way sicker than has been reported. I’m beginning to think it’s not a matter of if he croaks before his term expires, it’s when.

As for caucuses, I really don’t know about them being less democratic. People who cannot attend a county caucus meeting can fill out a form to either mail or deliver to the county party. The state party mails everyone an absentee ballot for the caucus.

It would probably be better if the state party simply held a regular primary, as the Republican and Libertarian Parties do. (I would also like to get rid of the state law that says independents can vote in any primary/caucus. You ain’t a member, you don’t get to pick our candidates.)

I recall that in the novel of The Handmaid’s Tale, there’s a metafictional epilogue, a panel of historians discussing how Offred’s tapes (which form the narrative of the book) were recorded at the beginning of the Republic of Gilead and that ultimately, Gilead collapsed and a more equal society re-emerged with a restoration of full rights for women and freedom of religion. I don’t recall now if the historians stated how long Gilead lasted before it fell apart; it’s been a long, long time since I read the novel.

I don’t recall now if the historians stated how long Gilead lasted before it fell apart; it’s been a long, long time since I read the novel.

Looking at my copy of the book …

The epilogue is set on June 25, 2195. Referring to a section of the dialogue, from Professor James Darcy Pieixoto of the University of Cambridge, given at the University of Denay, Nunavut. (The speech is about the difficulty in authenticating artifacts from Gilead as being genuine.)

“To return from my digression: [cassette] tape like this, howeiver, is difficult to fake convincingly, and we were assured by the experts who examined them that the physical objects themselves are genuine. Certainly the recording itself, that is, the superimposition of voice upon music tape, could not have been done within the past hundred and fifty years.”

The story never gives a precise date for the Republic of Gilead, but using the figure given in the fictional speech, the cassette tapes would have been dated no later than 2045.

If Trump’s having “difficulty navigating the stairs” (and he does seem to have a fear of stairs as I recall) it’s most likely because he’s having issues with depth perception and needs to be wearing glasses……which of course, he won’t do because he’s so goddamn vain.

Could be that just one eye might be more strongly affected than the other; that would be enough to mess with depth perception.

He is in his early 70’s, after all, and I’d expect that his vision by this point isn’t exactly 20/20. He might very well use glasses in private, when no one’s around, but he won’t do it publicly.

My wife has balance problems on staircases (going down), but that was caused by her auto accident in Colorado many years ago—she refers to the traffic light they put up in Falcon after her accident as her “memorial traffic light.” (That accident also left her with a lazy eye, but her vision is not her problem with staircases. That’s also why I get upset when people attack Sarah Huckabee Sanders over her own lazy eye—there are plenty of horrible things she does without that.)

While no Democrat here won Federal office, the win rate for state and local offices was 73% out of over 850 candidates (the most we ever ran here).

Jane Kleeb was a Sanders supporter during the primaries, as was I. While she supported Hillary Clinton later, she wasn’t exactly a raging endorser.

She is good at organising (she organised Bold Nebraska against the Keystone XL pipeline before entering politics). She seems to be missing part of the picture though, that to advance a more liberal agenda in Congress we really need to get liberals elected. (She is tinged with purity pony, but not too badly.)

Even though it’s from Daily Mail, they’re reporting on a (morbidly) fascinating case regarding an incarcerated 78-year-old man - who may well be the most prolific serial killer in US history.

He seems to have largely preyed on drug-addicted women and prostitutes, and as a result, the bulk of his victims ended up being classified as “Jane Does” and in many cases, likely not even investigated beyond a cursory stage.

He’s confessed to 90 murders, and so far, authorities have verified 34 of those crimes.

What frustrates me is people like her have no pragmatic instincts. If she wants to build the DPoN she needs that. We built the Virginia Democratic Party not by having ideologues but by being reasonable and working for a liberalism that appealed to as many Virginians as possible and that was good for our state. She just needs to keep working to get Dems elected in Nebraska and be happy when we have success in other states. Purity politics gets you nowhere.

Exactly; Henry Lee Lucas sprang to mind immediately when I first read about the case a few days back on Reddit - I didn’t dismiss it outright, but I took it (and still do) with something of a grain of salt.

But as the authorities have apparently verified 34 homicides, and it appears that he was most active during the 1970’s and 80’s (the “Golden Age of Serial Killers”, so to speak), it’s starting to look like there’s definitely something to it.

We didn’t get any of that when John Boehner resigned from Congress and the GOP spent days trying to find a new sucker Speaker.

While we did get reports on the discussions and political manoeuvres going on in the GOP caucus, there was no “GOP in disarray” nonsense (and they really were in disarray).

I was impressed by an EU initiative to require airlines and railroads to offer immediate online refund of bookings for delayed flights or train connections.

Annnnd another consequence of Brexit:

London will lose up to to €800bn (£700bn) in assets to rival financial hub Frankfurt by March 2019 as banks start to transfer business to the German city before Brexit day.

The lobby group Frankfurt Main Finance released the figure after it was confirmed that 30 banks and financial firms had chosen the city as the site of their new EU headquarters.

But with several banks - including JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley - planning to spread their operations across a number of cities including Dublin and Paris, the lobby group believes the number of firms committed to expanding or setting up offices in Frankfurt will be closer to 37.

Ultimately it will mean draining billions of pounds worth of assets from London to companies’ German operations within months.

“All in all, we expect a transfer of €750bn to €800bn in assets from London to Frankfurt, the majority of which will be transferred in the first quarter of 2019,” said Hubertus Väth, the managing director of Frankfurt Main Finance.

Whelp, I just got a spam/potential malware attachment in E-mail, allegedly from the state Public Information Officer.

Being the village Public Information Officer, and unsure what to do, I sent an E-mail back to the real state PIO noting I got this.

Since the E-mail alleges to be from a state office (though the E-mail address was constructed badly) and it used her name as she writes it (not her name as it appears in my Outlook address book), I noted I was suspicious that the state’s computer system may have been hacked. In that case, it is possible every PIO in the state received this E-mail alleging to be from her.

I alerted her to this, and asked if there was someone at the state IT office I should send a copy of the E-mail to. (I do not have a contact for such information from the state.)

That last bit about companies not wanting to pay tariffs contradicts the previous statement about China paying tariffs. He’s so confused.

Sure, if I were buying steel to build, I dunno, cars, I’d want to buy as cheaply as possible because that would help my profit margin and help me keep MSRPs low so people would actually buy my cars. If I could buy that steel domestically, I would, but it turns out US steel makers buy their material from abroad, so whoops!

Trump is leading the economy toward a recession at the same time he is feuding with Powell at the Fed, which is trying to prevent a recession (presumably). Experts can’t agree right now which guy succeeds.

What he means: If Democrats do legitimate oversight I will burn sources and allies by selectively declassifying info so my legal team can misrepresent it to the public.

His know nothing base didn’t know either. They thought that they were getting tax cuts.

What they were in fact getting was a headache because the GOP completely botched the withholding provisions so many taxpayers will end up owing more than they should this year and face inadequate withholding penalties this year. And the bulk of the tax breaks go to corporations and millionaires like Trump.

They’re getting tax breaks to offshore businesses (and incentives to do so thanks to Trump’s idiotic trade war too), and same goes for layoffs and reorganizations all while sitting on cash from record profits.

1) auto companies aren’t pouring in.
2) companies are trying to read the market and planning based on what they think will be wanted 2-5 years out or more, because you don’t build a factory for just one year. You don’t do a product line for just a year.
3) GM is shuttering facilities because they’re facing higher costs thanks to Trump’s idiotic trade war
4) GM is betting on SUV, CUV, and electrics - and shifting production to match that bet.
5) GM is already on the cusp of phase out for incentives for alt-energy vehicles (200,000); a threshold already reached by the likes of Toyota years earlier thanks to the Prius.
6) Trump’s a fucknut who doesn’t have a clue and doesn’t care. His supporters are even less informed, thanks to the Fox reach-around and agitprop misinformation cycle (Trump-Fox-Trump).

Texas woman with four children gets eight years in jail for voter fraud

A Texas appeals court upheld the conviction of green card holder Rosa Maria Ortega for voter fraud on Wednesday, cementing a sentence of eight years in jail and a likely deportation.

Ortega, a mother of four, reportedly thought she was able to vote because she was a permanent resident. She voted five times between 2004 and 2014 — once for the attorney general, Ken Paxton, who later prosecuted her, according to her attorney. She also reportedly served as a poll worker.

Paxton and the rest of the liars finally have their smoking gun, but they have yet to prove that Ortega voted 4 million times.

At least Cohen isn’t trying to fuck up the government’s case. I dunno. I certainly don’t feel any pity for Michael Cohen but I think there’s a real possibiity that he was disturbed as a child of a Holocaust survivor to see the way Trump actually was treating immigrants once he got in power. re: #229 HappyWarrior

Probably didn’t hurt that Trump threw him under the bus though. In any case, as I said the other day and I know you’ll appreciate the analogy as a New Yorker and observer of Cosa Nostra but we need a Gravano type to get Trump’s Gotti.

Cohen could be Trump’s Sammy the Bull.

Granted - everyone coming out of Trumpworld is absolute slime, and that stank won’t wash off.

Cohen does seem to be trying to make amends, for whatever reason. Points plus for that.

(Gawd, I can’t believe I just typed that.)

Yeah that’s what I was thinking as well. I just hope Cohen knows it’s going to take a lot for him to regain whatever reputation he thought he had before this. I certainly don’t want to see him 30-40 years from now acting how Chuck Colson did.

Drawing blanks. By far the Democratic administration that had the most problems with investigations and convictions was the Truman one. I think Truman was a very good President but that was a problem for him and I think one of his weaknesses also was with his judiciary picks. FDR and even Ike did better than him at that. Ike’s SCOTUS picks get a an A- from me for Warren and Brennan alone and Stewart was solid as well and Harland while more conservative than I’d like was a reasonable conservative jurist.

Does this mean in a few hours Trump is going to go off on Twitter like never before?

I hope so.

I want it to be clear to all the world he is not fit for office. Apparently he hasn’t been crazy enough to make it clear yet. Mueller can push him over that edge.

I worked for Mark Udall (who lost to Gardner) and Udall ran a horrible campaign. I did a lot of canvassing that year… it was a crazy year here in CO. As who will run against him - I’d say Hickenlooper if he didn’t want to foolishly run for President (as I’ve heard whispered). I really can’t think of any big names to run against Gardner but CO has a ton more people (and much more liberal people) than we did even a few years ago. Per wiki: After waiting a year so a knee injury could heal, Mueller was accepted for officer training in the United States Marine Corps in 1968, attending training at Parris Island, Officer Candidate School, Army Ranger School, and Army jump school. Of all these, he said later that he considered Ranger School the most valuable. “[It] more than anything teaches you about how you react with no sleep and nothing to eat.”[21][22]
Contrast this with Bonespurs. Mueller from a very young age has been about service to his country. As I’ve said, Mueller is the man that Trumpers think Donnie is and Donnie is the man that Trumpers think liberals are.

It will piss off the Republicans greatly but I hope one of the first Congressional Medal of Freedoms if he hasn’t received it already goes to Mueller in the next Dem administration. This guy has served honorably in our armed forces, prosecuted gangsters and terrorists, and he may yet get the biggest crook we’ve ever made President. We owe him a great debt and thanks. I’m not a big Comey fan but this also stands out to me about Mueller’s character:
On March 10, 2004, while United States Attorney General John Ashcroft was at the George Washington University Hospital for gallbladder surgery,[44] James Comey, the then deputy attorney general, received a call from Ashcroft’s wife informing him that White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card and White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales were about to visit Ashcroft to convince him to renew a program of warrantless wiretapping under the Terrorist Surveillance Program which the DOJ ruled unconstitutional.[44] Ashcroft refused to sign, as he had previously agreed, but the following day the White House renewed the program anyway.[44] Mueller and Comey then threatened to resign.[45] On March 12, 2004, after private, individual meetings with Mueller and Comey at the White House, the president supported changing the program to satisfy the concerns of Mueller, Ashcroft, and Comey.[32]:289-290[45]

If the president retweets something on Twitter, is it archived under the terms of the Presidential Records Act of 1978? If so, doesn’t that give some tweets attention they don’t deserve? M.O., Cambridge, MA

…the folks at NARA {National Archives and Records Administration] tend to err on the side of caution. McCarthyism was also done on accusations, shoddy research, etc. Mueller has gone out of his way to get everything as accurate as possible. If this really was McCarthyism as I’ve seen so many idiotic people including Glenn Greenwald claim, everyone remotely associated with Trump would have been on trial by now.

All-Republican Government Ends as It Began, In Disarray

remember make America great again? here’s what we got:

- rattled financial markets
- reduced farm exports
- raised manufacturing costs with his tariff policies
- blame slow growth on the Federal Reserve for raising interest rates
- threatens General Motors for closing plants.

The president who promised law and order”
- fired the FBI director
- fired his attorney general
- his ‘acting’ attorney general has been openly hostile to the russia probe.

Mexico would pay for the wall?
- now the American taxpayers should pay as a condition of keeping their government open.

“Thus completes the chaotic circle of governance by Trump and the GOP Congress: fanciful promises, contradictory priorities, presidential provocations that Republicans won’t rein in. Voters responded this month by handing the House to Democrats.”

Fucking Windy City (the reason it was named that)…politicians. (Chicago is my home and native land…I spent 40 some odd years there; born and raised.)

Burke has been targeted for defeat by Congressman-elect Jesus “Chuy” Garcia because of his property-tax appeal work on the riverfront tower that bears the name of President Donald Trump.

Garcia, a former alderman and departing member of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, said Burke’s work for Trump was disrespectful to his Hispanic constituents, who are now a majority in his ward.

“The fact that he has been Trump’s lawyer on reducing his property taxes and has been part of the property tax system in Chicago that has affected working people more than anybody else in a regressive manner are issues that have to be taken into account,” Garcia said earlier this year.

Deutsche Bank Offices Are Searched in Money Laundering Investigation

Nov. 29, 2018

BERLIN — One hundred seventy officers searched the headquarters of Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt and five other sites in the area early Thursday as part of a money-laundering investigation involving hundreds of millions of euros, prosecutors in Frankfurt said.

Two employees, who were not publicly identified but whose ages were given as 50 and 46, and other “unidentified people in positions of authority” are suspected of failing to report possible money laundering for transactions worth 311 million euros, or more than $350 million.

The money flowed to organizations in the British Virgin Islands before spring 2016, prosecutors said in an emailed statement.

The German bank confirmed in a statement that the police were investigating several of its offices in Germany and said the investigation related to the Panama Papers, a trove of files that put a spotlight on global money laundering. “We are cooperating fully with the authorities,” Deutsche said in the statement.

I can’t help but think that at this very moment, there is someone in Trump’s inner circle of advisers and family that knows that the best way out of this is the Nixon strategy: resign and hope the VP pardons him.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s someone in Trump’s inner circle - or maybe even the GOP leadership - who is trying to convince Trump to step down. If that’s the strategy, they probably want to hold out until February 2019, so that Pence can serve two additional terms. Not that he has any serious chances for reelection if he decides to go full Gerald Ford on Trump and give him a blanket pardon; if Pence does that, he’s just a caretaker President until 2020.

If their strategy is to hang on until Pence is in a more advantageous position, they better damn well hope that things don’t completely implode before that.

Kerry is getting a bit long in the tooth, and while he’s a solid and knowledgeable public servant, his level of charisma would be a handicap in getting the people who keep their head’s buried up to their shoulders in their rectums between election days to turn out.

Also, he’s from Massachusetts. I say this as a person from Massachusetts, but being a Masshole basically has the same impact on a politicians chances of being elected President as feeding a cute infant to an alligator. See RMoney, Mittens and Dukakis, Michael.

Also, he’s from Massachusetts. I say this as a person from Massachusetts, but being a Masshole basically has the same impact on a politicians chances of being elected President as feeding a cute infant to an alligator. See RMoney, Mittens and Dukakis, Michael.

Shorter Version:
Kerry = Dukakis

Kerry unfortunately was a more slightly successful Dukakis fourteen years ago It sucks because I think he’s a great guy and statesman who got a raw deal and I don’t blame him for wanting a second go at it but he’s not the person to defeat Trump IMO. I think we really need someone younger. I know it sounds ageist but we really do need to contrast that that Trump in fact is the low energy one. We tried the experienced one to go against Trump the first time. I’d go with someone a little more raw yet qualified. I do want to see who is advising these candidates though.

Why not? There are less absurd things to believe like what you and your political mentors the Pauls believe about the role of government.

I’ve mostly come around on the idea of universal basic income. Done right, I think it could replace a solid chunk of the social safety net while allowing people to better live their lives as they see fit. Just got to figure out that’s “done right” part

I believe that it is unbecoming a 1st world country to have people starving on its streets. I believe that on a planet which has the resources to feed, house and clothe everyone of its inhabitants, it is no more that just that the richest countries at minimum provide the base necessities when crises strike (nothing luxury, a decent meal, a decent roof over the head, decent items of clothing).

But then again, my archheretic mom instilled all sorts of commie leftie values in me, like one of my holy rules, “Thou shalt not leave my table hungry.”

Inside the White House’s Quiet Campaign to Create a Supreme Court Opening

NY TIMES

One person who knows both men remarked on the affinity between Mr. Trump and Justice Kennedy, which is not obvious at first glance. Justice Kennedy is bookish and abstract, while Mr. Trump is earthy and direct.

But they had a connection, one Mr. Trump was quick to note in the moments after his first address to Congress in February 2017. As he made his way out of the chamber, Mr. Trump paused to chat with the justice.

“Say hello to your boy,” Mr. Trump said. “Special guy.”

Mr. Trump was apparently referring to Justice Kennedy’s son, Justin. The younger Mr. Kennedy spent more than a decade at Deutsche Bank, eventually rising to become the bank’s global head of real estate capital markets, and he worked closely with Mr. Trump when he was a real estate developer, according to two people with knowledge of his role.

Milton Friedman actually made an argument for universal basic income years ago. One of the major problems with a lot of philosophical libertarianism isn that it likes to pretend that everyone is starting off, right now, with the same power and opportunities. That’s falls down the moment you out come consider the relative power in negotiations between employers and potential employees, or any time you have to sign an arbitration agreement to get services. I think universal basic income can relieve some of that disparity. Plus, if AI is coming for all of outer jobs, we are going to have to rethink a lot of things

Right. I can see why it appeals but it also fails to account for a lot of real world things. I’m fond of saying libertarian dogmatics aren’t too different from Marxist dogmatics in that they don’t take the human factors into account.

I agree with your thoughts but trump’s ego will never allow it. He won’t resign (only if he says something like “You don’t deserve me!” but even then I don’t see it.)

its way way too early
resigning now requires someone to think strategically
he will have to be publicly squeezed - and a lot, before he and his gut - whose smarter than anyone else’s brain, figures out what to do

then there’s all the state crimes besides
they wont go away with resigning nor a pence pardon

unless some grand bargain is struck
which requires mueller

If their strategy is to hang on until Pence is in a more advantageous position, they better damn well hope that things don’t completely implode before that.

After the deluge of news this morning, their Fatted Calf might do something really stupid and desperate.

EDITED TO ADD: Even if he does resign and Pence pardons the federal charges, Trump’s in the same box as Manafort - still has to deal with the state charges. I’m hoping for total seizure of assets, myself.

Many years ago - when I was a teenager - I switched from glasses to contact lenses and I admit that for the first few hours in contacts, I wasn’t too good on stairs, owing to the prismatic distortion that occurs when you’re used to wearing eyeglasses. I have a strong prescription (-9.75 L eye, -8.15 R eye, and with astigmatism).

Napolitano seems to be the only one looking at the plea deal with his eyes open.

Because he’s actually smart enough to know that a Dem insider could be caught doing the same shit Cohen did and FNC would look bad demanding that person go to the gallows while defending this. Kinda like how Princess Ivanka insists she’s innocent of the same thing her dad wants to lock hrc up for.

Pretty sure we now know why he abandoned the press pool last night and stormed away from the tree ceremony. Whitaker told him that Cohen had plead to things contradicting what Trump has put in his sworn answers….

That could well be, actually; I saw some video of that and Trump seemed (at least to me) agitated as he left the tree lighting ceremony.

You know, I know you lean libertarian and I’ve gotten a couple libertarian buds to admit they’re sympathetic to that and they definitely agreed they’d rather the government spend more on social programs than the military. My belief is this. I believe the government since it is we the people should be investing in we the people and that means things like education, infrastructure, health care, and yes making sure people don’t go hungry. Massie is a Paul style wackjob that has his head up Von Mises’ Institute’s ass and doesn’t realize that economics is about living and breathing people.

“things like education, infrastructure, health care, and yes making sure people don’t go hungry” may seem expensive considered in isolation, but they’re a whole lot cheaper than the amount of police and prisons that’s needed in countries that don’t do that.

Exactly. AOC was on I think Cuomo and he asked her the usual “Well you know, I don’t think we can afford this.” Which I think is a reasonable question but no one ever asks that same question police, prisons, and the military budget.

The problem is that social program spending has become about “spending money on those other people who can’t possibly be me or my family.” I’ve benefited from social programs as have most voters but I know I have and I suppose most of you have too. But we don’t think about that because we’ve had dipshits like Reagan poison our minds against the “welfare queen” rather than us thinking about there are poor mothers out there who yes we want to be working who might need an extra hand so their kid doesn’t go hungry or we don’t consider that those student loans that helped us get our degree were a government program too. We need to win that conversation with the next generations of voters if we want to have more spending on social programs.

Even now, though I mostly wear glasses, when I pop in contacts, it slightly changes my depth perception.

I don’t think tRump’s stair problem is due to vision. My sense of balance is nonexistent, really—my vestibular apparatus has never worked worth shit. Like a lot of people, I depend on visual cues and feedback from my ankle muscles. As I’ve gotten older and fatter (like tRump), the latter has become unreliable. I have a hell of a time going down stairs. Up is much easier.

And I also don’t think this will get anyone to turn on Trump now, not when Cohen previously cut a plea deal on the same basic facts. This is just a more explicit admission of the Russia-Trump contacts. The Trumpworld/GOPers who backed Trump to now have overlooked everything else he’s done. They’re not going to have a crisis of confidence in Trump over this.

Everyone associated with Trumpworld and the GOP leadership are complicit. Everyone.

Well, Massie’s a Republican, so he’s obviously floating this idea in the spirit of scornful mockery, but IMO, it’s a great idea. Not sure exactly how the system works, but widely expanding the food subsidy to a broader segment of the economy sounds like a better allocation of government funds than a lot of stuff I can think of.

Farmers lost a big market in China. Maybe develop a new one in the USA?
Tariffs China is filling the treasury with would easily pay for it, right?
