“Every year around this time there is always a recap of people who have passed away and we lost some talented folks in 2008, a partial list of whom can be found here. I’ve been lamenting the loss of Will “Chicken Fat” Elder this past May. His subversive illustrations for Mad and other publications have tickled my funny bone for a long time. Here is the hilarious sendup of Disney that he did with Harvey Kurtzman for Mad #19, way back in 1955. Hoohah!”

Whatever’s in that bottle must be the same sort of mystery potion the guy where I used to work work drank, causing him to test positive for drugs, causing us to want to fire him. ‘Cause he never did any drugs - just drank some potion the hoo-doo doctor gave him to remove the hex his wife had put on him. But no drugs, no sirree, never.
Yep, Goofy is one evil character.

Of course, the Zulu might never have vanquished the British at Isandlwana without the help of traditional Zulu medicines. Some scholars have suggested that Zulu pharmacopoeia provided more of a psychological boost than any real physiological effect. But recent scientific studies show that the medicines contained some very potent drugs. For example, warriors were given a cannabis (marijuana)-based snuff to take during battle. Analysis of the snuff has revealed that it contained extremely high levels of THC, a powerful hallucinogen, and yet no detectable levels of the chemicals that cause the sedative effects of marijuana.
For whatever that is worth.

Interesting. But it needs to be noted the the Zulu warriors who fought at Isandlwana did not receive those medicines before the battle. The battle began when a British patrol led by Lts. Raw And Roberts (no relation to Field Marshal Lord Roberts) crested a height and stumbled upon the main Zulu army. Having been discovered, most of the Zulu force moved out without the usual pre-battle ceremonies. Only the units of the reserve had time for the medicines. Those units crossed the Thukela River and attacked the British supply point at Rorke’s Drift. Such chemicals would then have contributed to their defeat. Because the Zulu’s mostly attacked with uncoordinated rushes. Had they put in repeated, coordinated attacks, they might have overrun the British.

Evening. Of course he isn’t a frigging communist, and as to being a socialist, all of Europe, (mostly the Western world) and probably Israel too, by most standards is “socialists”.
According to many in this country, well documented here, being socialist is being in support of Medicare and Social Security. (Glenn Beck the oracle himself says there is nothing in the constitution, or the bible, about social justice AKA socialism).
My point is, in case you missed it, that when you use these terms to make a point as you did, the point is meaningless, whatever it was.

Ah, my bad. Yeah, I don’t know, I kinda walked away from the film seeing as more of preaching that the world is full of “necessary evil.” That we despise men like Yuri (Cage’s character) because we see the weapons he deals and the death that results as “evil,” but he’s simply the middle man, helping the great powers of the world conduct this little private wars while turning a profit at the same time.
I happened to like the movie as well as found myself being sympathetic, on a personal level with Yuri. That being said, it’s important to note that he was involved in arms trading with drug war lords. In the real world, knowingly trading in the illegal arms trade to known genocidal dictators and/or terrorists puts these arms dealers well beyond the scope of being mere middle men.

Peace.

With all due respect, you need to get a clue. The ILWU is a Prog front. As such, it is anti-Israel.
Curiously, most of our members in San Francisco Voice for Israel identify as liberal, and one or two even leftist, but they’re still Zionists in the end. In fact, once again, we’re marching in the SF Pride Parade this upcoming Sunday. Israel supports legal equality for its LGBT citizens (save for marriage, like the U.S.), and as an activist group, so do we.
Anyway, I don’t think progressive is a dirty word. I certainly don’t use that label when describing the pro-Jihadi kids/adults at demonstrations like the one at the Port of Oakland. Moonbat is a more appropriate term, IMO.

Especially since Homosexuality is punishable by DEATH under Hamas law, and that Israel is the only country in the mid-east that guarantees some legal protection for gays and lesbians. Basically the SF gays are allowing a group to march in their parade that advocates death for gays.

Yes. Cognitive dissonance. Last year, the parade was crashed by some jerks chanting “Intifada, intifada”. Apparently the San Francisco JCRC knew this was a possibility but decided not to keep the parade crashers out in order to “maintain the peace.” That’s why this year SFVoice4Israel is marching on its own - last year all the Jewish/Zionist orgs marched in one huge contingent. When we found out that SF JCRC purposely took no action to keep the anti-Zionist crashers out, we were infuriated. Par for the course though. The JCRC also downplayed the Port of Oakland thing and discouraged any pro-Israel groups from attending.

Israeli ship unloads after flotilla raid protest
The Associated Press
Posted: 06/21/2010 10:34:43 AM PDT
Updated: 06/21/2010 10:34:43 AM PDT
OAKLAND, Calif.—Workers at the Port of Oakland are unloading an Israeli ship after demonstrators managed to postpone their work for 24 hours.
Protesters picketed at the Port of Oakland to prevent the incoming ship from being unloaded on Sunday. The dock’s day shift of longshoremen did not cross the picket line.
International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 10 business agent Frank Gaskin said workers began unloading the Israeli Zim Lines ship at 8:00 Monday morning.
The picketers were protesting Israel’s raid of a Gaza-bound international flotilla that left nine pro-Palestinian activists dead in May. Israel has eased the blockade under intense international pressure.
Oakland police said no demonstrators were arrested.
There you have it. 24 hours. I think it’s unreasonable to expect that he would have done anything about this. I also think trying to attach blame to him for having appointed Port of Oakland board members that would be subject to fact checking.

I think this article is relevant to the topic at hand:
Obama and the War against Israel
No other country in the world faces an array of existential threats such as the nation of Israel confronts daily. The world’s only Jewish state is also its most precarious. Geographically tiny, Israel is surrounded by theocracies that reject its very existence as a “nakba” — a catastrophe — and call for its destruction. To carry out this malignant ambition, anti-Israel Islamists have mobilized three rocket-wielding armies, sworn to wipe Israel from the face of the earth.
First and most aggressive among them is the Gaza-based Hamas, a fanatical religious party committed in its official charter to obliterating Israel and killing its Jews. Hamas is the creation of the Muslim Brotherhood, the inspirer of al-Qaeda and the global Islamic jihad, whose official motto declares: “Death in the service of Allah is our highest aspiration.” In Gaza, Hamas has created a terrorist state and a national death cult whose path is martyrdom and whose goal is openly proclaimed: “O, our children: The Jews — brothers of the apes, assassins of the prophets, bloodsuckers, warmongers — are murdering you, depriving you of life after having plundered your homeland and your homes. Only Islam can break the Jews and destroy their dream.”

Nope. The JCRC didn’t want to make waves with anyone in the opposition, and besides the crashers literally walked into the parade at the VERY END of the contingent, with enough distance that the huge blog of people marching forward wouldn’t notice them. Of course we noticed them, because we had been tipped off by an “infiltrator” on the other side that members of QUIT were going to crash the contingent. What we didn’t know at the time was that the JCRC had ignored the same warning. They even told us a day or so before the parade that they had taken care of the threat. Liars, the lot of ‘em.
I even remember complaining out loud, after the parade, to a member of the Progressive Jewish Alliance, who had the audacity to tell me, (I’m not making this up) “Being inclusive is all about the love, man.”

This is a problem a lot of gay groups have. They think they have to include EVERYONE. IMHO, you can be more inclusive by making your focus narrower. Only allow groups that advocate equal rights for same-sex couples. This means also keep out (for example) the “legalize marijuana” folks, etc, no matter how much you may agree with their cause.
I mentioned in another thread today the problem I had forming a neighborhood group to oppose a Poll Tax proposed by the Cupertino Union School District. I wanted to form a group that had one item on its agenda: to oppose this one tax. What I got were a lot of Tea-Party-conspiracy nuts.

OK, I checked but stopped after a certain number. The top 4 Port of Oakland Commissioners (or big cheese) were all picked by Mayor Dellums:
Victor Uno
James W. Head, 1st Vice President
Margaret Gordon, 2nd Vice President
Pamela Calloway
The Oakland Code of Ordinances regarding Port Commissioners reads as follows:
ARTICLE VII - PORT OF OAKLAND
Section 702. Organization, Terms of Office. The Board of Port Commissioners shall consist of seven (7) members nominated by the Mayor and appointed by the Council for a term of four (4) years. Members in office at the time this section takes effect shall continue in office until their successors are appointed and qualified. For terms commencing July 10, 1969, two (2) members shall be appointed to fill the positions expiring upon that date, and two (2) additional members shall be appointed to bring the membership of said Board to seven (7); provided, that the terms of such two additional members shall be for such original duration, in no event to exceed four years, as will insofar as practicable permit appointment at the end of subsequent terms of office of members, of either one or two members.
I would say this put Jerry Brown very much outside the sphere of influence.

No worries. I think you were among those who have posted about nuance, context, and shades-of-grey.
Too often we get caught up in shooting the messenger without examining the message. I’ve read stuff in The Nation or Pat Buchanan’s essays that I agree with.
You are right that we need to consult multiple sources and form our own opinions. Just because someone we usually like writes or says something doesn’t mean we’ve got to agree with it.

I posted this under General because of the multi disciplinary approach, both economically and scientifically on the future state of the US due to AGW.
Please go upstairs and ding this up so it gets attention. It is about as useful a resource for a non-technical person as there is on the subject.
This is the third revised draft of a multi agency government report on climate impacts in the United States of America. This draft was compiled in Apr 2009.
For those looking for an easy to read and very thorough look at AGW and its impacts right here in the USA, you will not find a better document. There are hundreds of very informative graphs, and careful easy to read explanations. It is written on a level that even a politician in congress could understand.
For more technical information, there are over 500 references in the bibliography, comprising the work of tens of thousands of scientists. I heartily invite you to track down any of those papers for more detailed information.
Because of the political nature of this document - out and out mortality predictions are to be inferred by the intelligent reader, by piecing the information together. However, all the pieces are there to show that many millions of Americans are projected to perish as a result of a “business as usual” scenario.
Some of the agencies involved are:
NASA
NOAA
NSF
EPA
Dept Interior
Dept of Defense
Dept of Energy
Dept of Health
Dept of Commerce
Dept of State
Office of the President
[Link: www.climatescience.gov…]
The home page of the U.S. Climate Change Science Program also has many other useful reports written on a non technical level.

I made a comment about wondering whom the ILWU supported in 2008.
Although I suspect ILWU of having known more about this than they’re saying, I would like to point out that they cited safety concerns, and it was the protesters who appear to have put the ‘support’ spin on it.

At counter-demos we always make sure to have American flags flying along side Israel’s. It’s a lovely site, especially on a windy day, a sea of blue and white with an intermixing of red/white/& blue.
It’s a pretty sight, and it aggravates the opposition. Not that they need much riling up.

re: #159 eclectic infidel
Not so happy with JCRC at the moment. Then again, I’ve never been really happy with JCRC, so I don’t know why this moment should be any different.

Possibly. I think the voter fatigue from the Bush administration was a major point against him, something that maybe nothing could have been done about. I think Palin was one misstep, and the economic tumble sure didn’t help.

Ways McCain could have won (all of these together *might* have helped him win):
1. Lieberman/Romney/Pawlenty/Crist as VP instead of Palin
2. Running on a campaign of bipartisanship and change.(i.e abandoning the GOP base, but doing it honestly)
3. Hillary as his opponent.
4. A strong stand against continuing the Iraqi occupation.
Instead, McCain sucked up to Bush, pretended everything was peachy (“The fundamentals of the economy are strong” ring a bell? This was said while hundreds of thousands of people were losing their jobs every month and foreclosures were on the rise)
oh, and 5. Not “suspending” his campaign when he was forced to admit the fundamentals of the economy weren’t strong in some lame effort to make it look like he actually DID put “Country First”…even Republicans I know were like, “What the fuck? Is he for real?”

1, 3, and 5 work. 2 could not have worked. Had McCain abandoned his base, he would have lost anyway. 4 would not have happened period, for the simple reason that John McCain believed in the mission is Iraq and was not going to propose anything other than victory. Just my 2 cents.

So you don’t want change, you just want the power to shut down the Senate for two more years so you can make the President look like a failure in 2012…well, if that makes you feel better. But voting for the ability to cripple the Senate isn’t exactly voting for change. It’s voting for more of the same shit we’ve been dealing with for the last decade or so, except the Republicans will filibuster their mothers if they think it’ll win them a vote, based on the number of filibusters they’ve threatened and/or used since 2006.

I don’t buy for one second that it’s an accident, anymore than the avatar was or her repeated references to Corrie were.
As with the avatar, she’ll keep it up until that phrase is used to smear LGF by some hater. Maybe it’ll wind up in wikipedia’s entry for LGF and dog Charles for years, just like the loathsome nickname for Corrie did.

Oh for fucks sake.
Basically, if someone were to help a gay couple get married, “the GOP would like to see that person serve mandatory jail time.”
So these are the people that need to be removed from society? Jail time? Get real, Texas.

Huckabee And The Gay Marriage ‘Ick Factor’
“I do believe that God created male and female and intended for marriage to be the relationship of the two opposite sexes,” Huckabee said in a recent New Yorker profile. “Male and female are biologically compatible to have a relationship. We can get into the ick factor, but the fact is two men in a relationship, two women in a relationship, biologically, that doesn’t work the same.”
Next on his agenda: nose pickers.

Not to mention that the Supreme Court has already struck down bans on certain types of sexual activity between consenting adults as unconstitutional. (The real unconstitutional, not the “People I don’t like winning elections and passing laws” type of unconstitutional the wingnuts moan about.) Seriously, first wanting to change the 14th Ammendment and now this? So much for “upholding the Constitution.”

This is a valid point. With Obama in office, ANSWER has been having a heck of a time rounding up college bound morons to attend their rallies. The last couple SF rallies consisted almost entirely of various strains of communists, socialist worker party types, troofers, and of course the Arab jihadi kids. Convenience stores that close are anti-ICE!
Last call for alcohol in this town is generally 10 PM. They still don’t sell booze or wine at supermarkets or convenience stores. Heck, they finally stopped the Blue Law a couple of years ago. Still glad we don’t have state liquor stores. I hate those places — you know like in Pennsylvania. It’s like getting booze from the DMV.

Heh. No, unfortunately. (Well, actually, it’s probably a good thing, or I’d gain two kilos in two weeks.) I bought things like bread, cereal, lunch meat and fruit from a store nearby, and make my own meals rather than living on hotel food.

You really get f*cked on the mini-bars in hotel rooms. Best to find a liquor store beforehand..’course that doesn’t help if you’re in the hotel room right now. Just sayin.
Not neccessarily. I carry a big shoulder bag everywear for holding “research materials”. If I come back to the room with a couple of bottles of spirits, no-one will be the wiser. :)

We have state liquor stores here, and I go down to California often enough that I seethe with jealousy at my friends being able to just swing by safeway for cheap vodka.
But OTOH, we have fantastic beer available everywhere.

Or was that a Tu quoque?
Right wingers are protesting the Patriot Act because Obama’s president.
Left wingers aren’t protesting the war because Obama’s president.
Ergo, my point about the Patriot Act is invalid? Or! Obama’s fault.
Thing is, some people (civil libertarians) have always been mad about the Patriot Act and other Bush-era expansions of the executive branch power, and those people continue to be furious at Obama. Most of the best criticisms I’ve seen of Obama— best in the sense of cogent and thoughtful (and damning!)— are all coming from the left, because the right apparently has just checked out of the business of sane criticism.
Anyway, lots of people only cared about it when it was Bush, and don’t care about it under Obama. Similarly, the right ‘suddenly’ has concerns about it, but they’re also concerned about FEMA Camps, the Census, and the nonexistent plot to take away their guns, so there aren’t sensible criticisms of that on the right— it’s all mixed up with incoherent fantasy gibberish, and they don’t bother to explain why it was ok under Bush but not under Obama.
Finally— many civil libertarians and Obama supporters are shocked, shocked, that Obama would continue Bush-era policies in this regard— but in my opinion, they were wrong to expect Obama to behave differently. (I didn’t, and I voted for him anyway.)
The bottom line here is that people tend not to have problems with upsetting the system of checks and balances, dismantling civil liberties, and expanding the power of the executive branch— because everyone always believes that they or ‘their guy’ will only use that power for good. Every other bastard of course is suspect.

FEMA camps! Death panels! Internationalists! They’re going to take away our guns! The guns meme is the worst. Let’s see we’re almost on year 2 and haven’t seen one damn law limiting their possession or the 2nd Amendment. In fact, it’s gone the other way around with state laws allowing people to bring a gun into churches, bars, and saloon. In fact most have expanded concealed and open carry laws. Not satisfied with that they continue to make up stories trying to stir up fear in gun owners and non-owners alike.

As to the gun meme— the NRA has deliberately been pushing misinformation, not to say lies, on it since before the election.
The FEMA bullshit seems to still be with us. Check this out from May:
On the Persistent Rumour About FEMA Camps
A strange thing happened to a friend of mine the other day. She was at work when she noticed a coworker looking rather sullen in the corner of the office. She went to ask what was wrong, when suddenly her coworker broke into fits of wailing and sobbing. The woman’s shoulders convulsed with such force as she cried, that my friend assumed there must have been a death in the family, or that someone close to her was sick or dying. My friend immediately tried to comfort her and ask what was wrong.
This is what she was told:
FEMA was building camps to round up and annihilate Christians. The roundup would start soon, but it would move slowly and quietly. Whole families would disappear and not be heard from again, but it would be made to look like they simply moved out of town. Christian children, her children, would be gassed and put into plastic coffins. Two of the woman’s friends had already moved out of the country. Others were following soon. She intended to join them as soon as she could save up enough money. But finances were tight and it might be too late. What made this incident especially strange for my friend was that her coworker was not unintelligent or incompetent. She spoke three languages, was good at her job, and had managed to raise three children, by herself, at a relatively young age. The whole FEMA camp thing is pretty 2008, yet the woman’s fear was so palpable that she still called me to double-check.

What a bunch of knuckleheads. You know some of what they got confused with is that FEMA was setting up for mass casualty locations. This was part of the post-911 preparedness scenarios. It also includes contingency plans for mass mortuary sites and they also have 100s of morticians on call. This is set-up for either natural or man-made disasters like terrorism or industrial accidents.

Stanley Fish on something relevant today:
Jeff Sandefer, whose presentation at a 2008 meeting with Governor Perry and the university Board of Regents established the tone and contours of “reform,” makes no bones about it. Professors, he complains, seem to believe “that our colleges and universities belong to them” (“Public Universities Belong to the Public, Not the Faculty,” Texas Public Policy Foundation, May 6, 2009). It’s time, he says, to stop writing “blank checks” to faculty members who occupy themselves “writing academic journal articles that few people read.”
That of course is an accurate description. Senior faculty members do in fact write articles that only their peers at the top of very rarified disciplines can read.
That is what academic research is all about: highly qualified scholars working on problems that may have no practical payoff except the unquantifiable payoff of advancing our understanding of something in philosophy or nature that has long been a mystery.

Nader should stick to car safety. He was pretty good at that. As a politician he has no future. He’s also a lot like Ron Paul.

Oh God.
I was working for a very lefty magazine in 2000, and the editor endorsed Nader. This led to untold agony for me, not the least of it being the irate calls from elderly ladies with heavy Brooklyn accents who wanted to tell us off for abandoning the Democratic Party.
And the faxes. If the Nader campaign got your fax number, it was all over. The sheer number of trees we killed, getting updated on any random-ass thing that went through Ralph Nader’s pointy head.

They used to call them long hairs. A lot of this is an outgrowth of the right-wing free speech movement promoted by Frontpage. The claim regarding censorship of conservative students and such has created a great deal a animosity with academia from the right.
Ah yes, the legacy of D-Ho and his Dangerous Academia crap.
They’ve hated universities since the 60’s though: too many DFH’s according to them.
(That would be ‘Dirty Fucking Hippie’).

There’s a kids’ novel from the 70s in which a teenage boy finds a cat under a car and adopts it. He calls her Nader, after Ralph, because he also spent time under Chevrolets.

As a rule, I distrust any sort of “True Believer”. Religious, political, economical, it doesn’t matter to me. I prefer pragmatists. At the start, I didn’t have a preference between Hillary or Barack. They both struck me as pragmatists.
For me the deciding factor was the ability to put a ground game together, and I KNEW that there were so manyy people who would freak the fuck out if a BLACK MAN won the nomination, and even more who would go off the deep end if he won the Presidency. I have not been disappointed.

A person nominally of the political left viewed as excessively critical of President Barack Obama, especially if the tendency is to reflexively or obsessively criticize him and seemingly not other political figures. Etymology: Jane Hamsher’s popular, left-leaning FireDogLake blog was regarded by Democratic moderates as having gone around the bend in being hypercritical, such as when Hamsher appeared on Fox News to denounce Obama’s Health Care Bill, got involved with Neocon zealot Grover Norquist and even reportedly Tea Party activists. Thus, FireDogLake + Teabagger.“Firebaggers are just pissed because Obama hasn’t invited them into the Whitehouse and/or isn’t the Great Liberal Savior they thought he was going to be (depending on the firebagger doing the bitching).”

I’m still surprised though.
I expected mouthbreathers to freak out, but I didn’t expect this to ramify through the entire GOP leadership in the peculiarly virulent way it has.
Give me a pragmatist over an idealist any time. I love Hillary and would have voted for her, but I genuinely thought she came with too much baggage (in the form of decades of wingnut Hillary-hate).
I also wasn’t too keen on Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton for our POTUS history though.
Of course, the GOP has had no problem retooling (and I use that word advisedly) their narrative to make Obama the most evil and most librhul person EVAH.
At least we have interesting new conspiracy theories now, and not the CLINTON DRUG DEALER MURDER VINCE FOSTER LESBIAN BLARGH mid-90’s crap.

Gus, if i remember right, you are in the Denver Metro area. Everyone else, Clear Channel has a Nirther/MinuteMan supporter on AM drive time radio. “Dick Chancre” is only asking questions, but I heard his first Nirther broadcast and he went off the deep end from there. He has had “Oily Taint” and every other White Power, Neo Nazi, and Truther that Charles has pointed out on his show.
The biggest thing about him that disgusts me, he keeps bringing up his friendship with Alan Berg, a real victim of Neo Nazi’s as his claim to being against the people he keeps putting on the air. Of course, he doesn’t do that while talking to the pieces of crap.

Derives from firedoglake and their opposition to HCR— no public option, so let’s kill the bill! Who gives a shit if it covers 39 million without insurance?
Progressives who mount opposition to Obama for not being progressive enough, basically. The left version of teabagging.

The claim now is that Colorado has the most Tea Party members. Never heard of Dick Chancre since I don’t listen to talk radio or watch TV. Kind of odd that he would have been friends with Alan Berg but people do change. I’ve walked by the old Berg condo many times and they finally replaced the garage door the last time I saw it. Used to have the bullet holes.

I was telling Jimmah about the Jon Benet case the other day and the circus around it.
So weird. What is the consensus now? (I haven’t followed it). That the DA et al fucked up and it really was some stranger invading?
I thought various investigators and people in the DA office admitted it was completely bungled.

If nothing else, the wingnuts should think of the pursuit of knowledge as a national security issue. (Something they’re supposedly concerned about.) If the US gets overtaken in GDP *and* technological/scientific knowhow by BRIC countries, the game’s over. The reverence that Chinese and Indians especially have for knowledge and education is humbling.

The consensus. Basically that the Boulder PD screwed up the investigation since they had almost no experience with murder cases. Most everybody thought that Patsy killed her daughter but some thought they father did out of jealousy. The fake suspect was John Mark Karr.

Wingnuts detest knowledge. It is the provenance of the elites and leads to people questioning their (wingnuts’) authority.
It also threatens religious belief (in their world), so it is from Satan.

I admit I thought at first that it was the parents— the ransom note.
The other scenario floated a little was that it was her brother.
Took a class once with a former DA. She gave us a case history: year old infant raped and killed in her home. Who did it?
Most people guessed the stepfather, or the 14 year old (half)brother. Some guessed it was a stranger.
It wasn’t any of those; it was the 11 year old half-brother.
So for awhile I thought it was possible that it was intrafamilial and was covered up. I have no idea now what to think.

re: #224 eclectic infidel
It’s something that frustrates me and boggles my mind at the same time, and not just in relation to the JCRC either. Maybe we can never catch up to the other side with respect to funding, networking, and pure passion, but why on Earth must there be so much disorganization and an glaringly obvious lack of communication among pro-Israel organizations and groups? I don’t get it.
We’re Jews. One of our favorite (and true) quips is, “What do you get when you have ten Jews in a room? Seventeen opinions.”
The irony is that the only thing that gets us to work together is a mutual threat, and even then, it’s just barely.
In our organizations or what passes for them, we are a microcosm of society in general. There are those who are there for the publicity, those who want to hang on to power, those who are “do-gooders” without a lick of practicality, those who are of the “kill ‘em all, let God sort it out”, those who cherry-pick the Bible for support for their particular position, and those who are actually reasonable. IMO we have more than the average number of the latter, but as in any large group, the minority of a-holes, Duke Nukems, Pollyannas, Cautious Carols, and Rainbow McUnicorns drown us out.
And even when our various political stances come together, even God can’t get the Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, Reconstructionist, Humanistic, and any other denominations to work together.
