I believe the cult doctrine is that indeed, it is not happening. And, furthermore, if it is happening, it doesn’t matter because:

1. God promised he wouldn’t destroy the world again in a flood.
2. Al Gore.
3. ACORN.
4. Obama wants to ban fishing.
5. Democrats are evil Communists who want to take away your guns and bibles and force you into gay marriages and then abort the children.
6. Death panels.

Therefore, you must buy gold and survival seeds.

Once upon a time I tried getting into science fiction. Anyway, there was a novel by Larry Niven about a comet strike. One of the “geniuses” of the plot stockpiled pepper instead of gold because it has a high value per pound.

This has gone beyond the “roll your eyes at the right” genre and right into the “feel sick in the stomach at how we’ve f***ed up the planet” genre. At least for me. I can’t feel outrage directed at anybody except the entire developed world on this issue.

Just click on ‘Pages’ at the very top of the LGF page. When you’ve landed, on the right side there will be a button, ‘create your own page.’

Go from there.

Semi-ot: World Net Daily- What was the most covered-up story of 2010?

1. Elections official Tim Adams claims there is no Hawaiian birth certificate for Barack Obama.

2. Army officer court-martialed, jailed, after questioning Obama’s eligibility.

3. The reality of the U.S. economy is being assessed as a major issue by those who know, but has been getting little to no media attention. Very real questions about impossible deficits and skyrocketing taxes haven’t earned much network time.

4. America’s move toward socialism continued, even though it never in 2010 got attention like Obama’s remark to “Joe the Plumber” about just wanting to “spread the wealth.”

5. The fall of the “mainstream” news media – as ratings drop, advertising plunges and the public distrust grows

6. Allegations of fraud, including illegal voting by felons and a formalized refusal by some states to follow election law regarding ballots for the military, raise the dark possibility of the manipulation of elections.

7. Mysterious missile spotted off the coast of California.

8. The rising tide of evidence that the rising tide from global warming is a man-made hoax.

9. The push in the U.S. courts by homosexual advocates to demand the legalization of same-sex “marriage” as well as through Congress to formally adopt the policy of allowing open homosexual behavior in the U.S. military.

10. The impact of the TSA’s new full-body scanners, including the associated health risks, invasion of privacy issues and violations of the 4th Amendment protections against unreasonable searches.

I feel plenty of outrage at the fossil-fuel fossils who’ll be dead before the worst comes, so to hell with everyone else. And while they’ll blabber endlessly about “hurr hurr, it’s still snowing in winter, climate change is a hoax!”, you’ll get nothing but *crickets* about something like this:

Record warm temperatures start the new year in Ontario and Quebec

New Year’s Day brought the warmest January 1 on record to Toronto. Mild temperatures also dominated northern Ontario, Ottawa and Montreal.

January 1 temperature records were broken as southern Ontario climbed above around 10°C. New records included: Toronto (12°C), Hamilton (11.1°C), Windsor (11.3°C), Goderich (12.1°C) and Collingwood (11.5°C).

That’s 54°F. In Toronto. In January.

It would really help if the US got into cutting carbon emissions but that’s not going to happen. China and India certainly aren’t going to cut their emissions. Eventually Africa is going to want to industrialize and they aren’t going to watch their carbon output nor are any of the other upcoming areas of the world. World populations are going to continue to grow and need more cheap power.
I’m pretty fatalistic about the whole thing.

I’d ignore them too, except that they’re constantly trying idiotic stunts to get my attention, like registering sock puppets, pretending to be supporters, then posting a nasty page in the middle of the night. Or staging a ridiculous multi-comment flounce full of homophobic slurs, which has happened more than once. “Look at me, Daddy! I hate you!”

They also monitor every word I post, and when I link to a blog that allows comments they’ll be sure to show up there spewing their weird obsessive hatred.

The last time I visited the site (several months ago), every other post and comment was directed to me as if I were reading it. “So Chuckie, now you think you’re smart or something?”

At that point I made a rule not to go there any more, and I’ve kept that rule. I’d really like to ignore them totally, but they’re determined to do shit that makes me respond.

OK, but I still respectfully disagree with the whole concept. Outing me for example would be quite easy, and harmless, since I also post on other places with my name and more. In the early days of my LGF posting, I was a lot more concerned about staying the anonymous Commie pinko.

My wife and I went to a shooting and drinking even today. She’s very good— she had the highest score of all the girls. Gender does matter, since rifles are pretty heavy and she never really shot before.

It was a lot of fun, and very relaxing. I actually love loading the ammo; discrete little snickety stuff like that is soothing and hypnotic to me.

Everyone reading this thread, who knows that this topic is a serious issue, should take the time to write to every congressperson that they have, on the state and the local level, to your governor, and to the president. Tell them how important the issue is to you, and how much you want to see strong leadership and action on it.

And when the GOP hopefuls declare their intention to run, write to them as well. If you’re a member of one of the organized parties, write to all of the leadership to let them know how you feel on the topic. Make your voice heard.

There is no way to expect government to behave responsibly if we citizens do not take the time and effort to communicate responsibly to them.

I had my own hell a few years ago, the constant swing shifts that turned into grave shifts because the relief staff didn’t show up, necessitating that I work two shifts straight, from 2pm to 6am, with zero notice under threat of firing. basically because about half my coworkers sucked on ice. It’s really a great skill, and shooting targets is fun. Pistols are very different than rifles. Many shooting ranges have licensed instructors available for lessons. I think you’d surprise yourself, with how much fun, hitting a target can be. And, they rent guns, too.

Anyway, I haven’t made pizza dough in fucking forever, but my wife wanted pizza, so I made some whole wheat dough, and it fucking came out perfect.

By the way, one of my resolutions was to not say fuck or fucking so much this year…I hope I’m doing okay, because I’d hate to fuck that up.

re: #127 Obdicut

My wife and I went to a shooting and drinking even today. She’s very good— she had the highest score of all the girls. Gender does matter, since rifles are pretty heavy and she never really shot before.

It was a lot of fun, and very relaxing. I actually love loading the ammo; discrete little snickety stuff like that is soothing and hypnotic to me.

Then we drank a shitload of bourbon, rye, scotch, etc.

Should’ve asked for one scotch, one bourbon, and one beer…

;-P

they’re two devon rexes and a sphynx. Awesome cats, brilliant and talkative. But they have high metabolisms, because they run around a lot. And then they eat alot. And then they throwup a lot if you give them too much food. Mostly the sphynx, who is extremely high strung *_*

Indeed. And the guy who was the drinkin’ expert was a Georgian who had just come back from there with a big bag of grits, and gave us some of the grits. As in, the raw stuff. He got really mad when I said that they’re very similar to polenta (which they totally are) but he calmed down after I talked more about scotch with him.

Fun stuff.

OK, this is how Russo-centric my world is—I was wondering why a Georgian would have grits.

I keep promising myself I’m going to buy and gun and learn how to shoot. I keep procrastinating because I really don’t like guns. I don’t like killing things either but I really should hunt at least once just to say I’ve done it.

My little cousin keeps asking me to teach him how to hunt. I keep asking him some big questions:
1. Do you know the first rule of gun safety?
2. How are you in dealing with field dressing an animal as in getting hands deep in guts and cutting out the throat and anus?
3. Can you keep quiet and relatively still for more than 3 hours?
4. Can you shoot and kill an animal?

If you can’t honestly answer those questions just don’t bother hunting with a rifle and just take a camera for a pleasant nature hike. Hunting is not for everyone and I don’t think lesser of anyone who’s not into it. Why make a half hearted attempt at something you don’t really enjoy?

I don’t think it’s quite practical to go for complete self sufficiency. I suppose I could almost make it with my own veg but meat might be impractical. I don’t think hunting would be a very reliable source of food. I did research my local trout stocked lakes and I think I’m going to make an effort to start fishing again. There are a couple lakes 20-30 minutes away from me. They’re kinda urban so they aren’t very pretty but it should be a quick and reliable food source.

Socialism
–noun
1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
2. procedure or practice in accordance with this theory.
3. (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.

I don’t pull punches when it comes to hunting especially with 14 year-old cousins who think it of taking it up on a whim. Dad had my brothers and I learn from a young age and we started by learning and doing all the grunt work like cleaning rifles and hauling gear to deserve a place at deer camp. We got our one freebie field dressing and all the rest deer we killed we ours to field dress. I even field dressed my brother’s first deer to make up for my freebie.

Hizbullah, the delegation was told, has 40,000 missiles as well as a number of Iranian-made Ababil unmanned aerial vehicles that have a range of 150 km. and can be loaded with explosives and sent to bomb strategic targets in Israel.

The Scientific Consensus on Climate Change

IPCC is not alone in its conclusions. In recent years, all major scientific bodies in the United States whose members’ expertise bears directly on the matter have issued similar statements. For example, the National Academy of Sciences report, Climate Change Science: An Analysis of Some Key Questions, begins: “Greenhouse gases are accumulating in Earth’s atmosphere as a result of human activities, causing surface air temperatures and subsurface ocean temperatures to rise”.

This analysis shows that scientists publishing in the peer-reviewed literature agree with IPCC, the National Academy of Sciences, and the public statements of their professional societies. Politicians, economists, journalists, and others may have the impression of confusion, disagreement, or discord among climate scientists, but that impression is incorrect.

This video is showing sea-ice extent, not sea-ice mass. If you show sea ice mass, you see a distinct decline over the last thirty years. You’ve ignored the actual claims made by climatologists, and chosen a set of data that misses the point.

So, why are you doing that?

re: #342 Obdicut

As the seasons progress, the area covered in sea ice decreases, reaching its minimum extent in September most years.

The extent is the spread of the ice.

I was not aware of the mass factor, though. I’ll have to study that a bit more.

Thanks, Obdicut.

Why the fuck would you start in on a subject you’re completely ignorant about, lecturing others?

re: #345 Obdicut

Hold on buddy…

The overlap is also showing sea ice extent.

Area is one thing, mass is another. All I did was prove that this piece of “evidence” is not really scientific because you can show an overlap that would show more ice rather than less.

I never attacked anyone. I simply was opining on the veracity of the evidence.

Sheesh!

re: #346 FQ Kafir

You ‘opined’ by linking to a bogus video. Why are you assuming that the overlay is of individual months, anyway?

What do you expect from someone trolling a dead thread?

What makes the video bogus? A comment from someone you don’t know?

OVERLAY

That’s why I used individual months… because the overlay did.

re: #349 FQ Kafir

You cherry picked the year 1998. Here is a graph that shows the November ice extent for the years 1979 through 2010.

re: #349 FQ Kafir

The video is bogus because mass, not extent, really is the correct measurement.

You are correct that the overlay uses individual months. However, the larger point is still correct; sea ice extent has been declining for decades.

Please take the time to educate yourself on this subject.

re: #350 Reginald Perrin

It appears that he also cherry picked the year 2008, he is a sneaky little bugger. That may explain why he was once given the ban stick by Stinky Beaumont.

All of this hyperventilating does not change this overlay into something scientifically valid. Which was my only point.

You’re missing the whole point, there is scientific proof that the ice extent has diminished significantly in the last decade. The overlay was used as an illustration of that phenomena.

Troll misrepresents to antagonize due to lack of critical information supporting claims.

Extent and mass have both been declining, but if you are to choose between the two mass is more critical.

re: #353 FQ Kafir

This overlay demonstrates a scientifically accurate fact; the extent of sea ice has been diminishing.

What is your actual, substantial objection?

You’ll have to excuse me if I value the expertise of the National Snow and Ice Data Center over yours.
