Harry Reid Supporters Threaten Violence Against Breitbart at Tea Party Protest
Supporters of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid staged a counter-protest today in Searchlight, Nevada, the Senator’s hometown. Reid supporters gathered just down the road from the launching point of the Tea Party Express tour, and when Breitbart happened upon them, he was met with threats of violence. At least one protester threw an egg at Brietbart, missing him. Eggs were also thrown at the Tea Party Express bus.To add insult to insult, Reid supporters called the police to report that Breitbart had provoked an incident.

Confusion of terms. Fire opal is the solid colored orange/reddish translucent opal that comes from Mexico. It has no flash or play of color, is is simply a amber-looking stone.
Fire is the generic term for the play of multiple colors in a piece of opal, whether the opal be black, white, crystal or matrix.
Broad flash is when the colors look like it was painted on in swatches. Pin fire is when the multiple colors are like little pinpoints of lights, speckled, tight pricks of color.
Boulder opal is when you have mineraloid opal material that has seeped into crack and fissures of boulder material like ironstone or rhyolite.
There is no such thing as fire opal from Au. Just a quick primer on opal.
I cut and polish opal. I was just looking over a parcel of opal that I haven’t gotten to, since I had to sell my cutting and polishing machines a few years ago cause I needed money.
I love opal.

Like I said… the term “fire opal” is a type of opal… “Fire opals are transparent to translucent opals with warm body colors yellow, orange, orange-yellow or red and they do not usually show any play-of-color, although occasionally a stone will exhibit bright green flashes. The most famous source of fire opals is the state of Querétaro in Mexico and these opals are commonly called Mexican fire opals.”
Opal WITH fire in them commonly refers to most of the opal that has a play of multiple colors in it. There is one mine in Australia which has the name “Desert Fire Opal” but that is the name of the mine, not the type of opal that comes out of it. That mine is in Coober Pedy and all the opal in that region is mainly white opals (white base with multiple colors) or crystal opal (opal that has started to crystalize so it looks a bit like white glass with multiple colors in it).
I never said what your friend has is not valuable, I am just trying to clear up a very common confusion in terms when it comes to opals. Why in heaven’s name would I want to lie to or tell you something that is not true.

I have a lot of both worked and rough opal here. As soon as I can put a few bucks aside, I am going to reinvest in some lapidary tools. I need at least a small rock saw and a grinding station. I like flat grinders, but wheels will do too.

I was looking at a small table top set up (5 inch saw, and the top turns into a flat grinder)… use… Inland… wanted 365 for it, no pads, but about 10 diamond saws.
I just don’t have that right now. But that’s the type of unit that would work best for me right now, since I am mainly interested in working opals and turquoise (have a ton of rough turquoise) and just some small slab work.

Since the new LGF Cookbook is about to make its debut, I’ve come up with an idea for a companion volume.
The LGF Book of Snarky Cocktails.
I already created one on the last thread. Lizards are hereby invited to send their contributions to Reine (with your permission, of course, My Queen!). They can be anything at all, named after anyone at all, but must contain a healthy dash of ridicule to be considered for publication.
Perhaps we can even persuade the estimable Jaunte to donate his creative talents for another cover.
Here’s something to get you started. (Warning: don’t have too many of these at one go, or you could find yourself suddenly unable to hold up your end of a debate. Or even get it up to begin with.)
So, without further ado, I present:
The Defenseman
Two measures of milksop juice.
Three measures of hundred-proof, distilled cowardice.
Shaking and quaking, no stirring, please.
Top with a dash of of Amaretto, for that hint of cyanide, and garnish with a small, wrinkled cocktail pickle.Note: Best served with flaccid little wieners and French mustard.

Here… something not written by me…
“‘Fire Opal’ - Many people ask us about ‘fire opal’ so I thought I’d include this one. Fire opal is a term not commonly used within Australia but is quite common amongst Americans. Technically, the only type of opal known as ‘fire opal’ is Mexican Fire Opal, mined in Mexico, which usually has a distinct orange colouring. However, the term has been used to describe any Australian kinds of opal (normally a black opal shows it best) which displays a significant amount of red colouring. Red of course is the rarest colour, so these are quite valuable. “

Indeed. I talked to him this morning and he said he did something like 14 illustrations for the book. That’s amazing.
He wanted this book to be better than the last.
Plus we had a person drop out who was doing the collating and design of things in the proper format to be uploaded to LULU.com, and Jaunte took on that portion, also, as he had access to the right software and someone who knew how to use it.
The heavy lifting has fallen on his shoulders entirely.

I actually do notice a political angle on this. Lizards, for the most part, aren’t really into the Jaimie Oliver program but it’s very popular with Dkos, HUffpo and left wing blogs. Reason Magazine is producing articles and videos talking about what a douche Oliver is and that McDonald’s is really great. Malkin has written that the school lunch program by Mrs Obama is a leftist plot to empower the unions (not kidding). Zombie wrote an article for PJM attacking school garden programs.
Tonight is one of the Earth Hour events and winguts are advocating turning on all their lights and appliances in protest. Just like conservatives abandoned the environment because they think it’s only for lefties, they’re also going to fight against healthy eating and obesity campaign just out of spite. Republicans were forced to campaign against their own Healthcare reform ideas, simply because Obama endorsed them. It’s amazing how conservatives are so willing to campaign against their own interests.

First (and second) comment:
Before the Rothschild’s, Shiffs and Warburg’s took control of the US dollar in 1913, the US manufactured more than the next three advanced economies combined (i.e. France, Britain and Germany). Since then, they have been able to stop the US growth by pushing it into a War or a financial crisis every decade. As long as they keep you scared of one buggy man after another, you will give up one right after another and pay your taxes without a murmur.
How do they get away with it?
They first took over control of the media (ref. “Who Rule America” on natall , but don’t join). With the mass media in the hand of Zionist Jews, they went after the whistleblowers. They did this by labeling every independent thinker as conspiracy theorists. Even Ron Paul, the brightest and most patriotic man in congress, cannot speak the truth without FOX calling him a flake to discredit the truth he speaks.

Strawberry Fields Asunder: Farmers Destroy Crops
At strawberry farms across southwest Florida, there’s an unusual sight. Workers aren’t picking strawberries, they’re destroying them.“We’ve got more berries than we know what to do with,” said Matt Parke, a strawberry farmer.
Parke said that he was forced to tear through 60 acres, nearly half of his crop, to save his farm. He said that prices have dropped so much that it seems cheaper to let the fruit spoil than ship it to market.
At least out here, strawberry prices are not quite as low as last year. Last year I could get 1 lb for $1, and so far they’ve only gone down to $1.50.

Well, looks like we’re beginning to see a pattern.
When Tom Grimes lost his job as a financial consultant 15 months ago, he called his congressman, a Democrat, for help getting government health care. Then he found a new full-time occupation: Tea Party activist. […]
Mr. Grimes, who receives Social Security, has filled the back seat of his Mercury Grand Marquis with the literature of the movement, including Glenn Beck’s “Arguing With Idiots” and Frederic Bastiat’s “The Law,” which denounces public benefits as “false philanthropy.”
The second teabagger who lives on government welfare who works full time denouncing the benefits he gets…for others. I suppose anyone who can keep a job is too busy to be a tea party activist.

A death threat phone call made to controversial U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Orlando, was answered by his 5-year-old son.“It’s appalling. I think any decent human being would understand this is not the way to behave,” Grayson said during a phone interview with Local 6.
Grayson’s press secretary, Todd Jurkowski, said the incident occurred last week.
Grayson told Local 6 he was in Washington D.C. prepping for the contentious health care reform vote when a female placed the call.“My 5-year-old twins hit the speakerphone when the phone was ringing, and she said, among other things, ‘If you vote for healthcare, I’ll kill you,’” Grayson said, “and my 5-year-old went to my wife and said, ‘Mommy, there’s a lady on the phone who said she’s going to kill me.’”
Grayson said his son was upset, but seems OK now. Details of the incident have been turned over to Capitol police.

Yeah, Malkin was posting about that earlier too. It really has me thinking. This is a trend that has been going on for a very long time. I think one of conservatism’s main faults is they keep adopting positions that have nothing to do with conservative ideas. There’s no reason opposing evolution or global warming should be conservative ideas. I know they have rationalizations for it but it’s not really conservative. Same goes for childhood obesity, public schools, higher education, science and affordable healthcare. It’s insanity to oppose these things.

The Guardian marvels over President Obama:
We should envy America its inspirational president
The long political battle over healthcare in the US has often looked peculiar to outside observers. The idea that the state should look after people with medical needs, uncontroversial in Europe, was denounced by some American conservatives as a stepping stone to communism.
President Obama’s health plan, signed into law last week, protects millions by reforming the insurance system. New regulations will enforce minimum standards and stop insurers capriciously withdrawing cover.
That might sound more like consumer protection than revolution, but in the context of US politics it is a famous victory.

A nice quote from Frum…
Such cultural crusades might seem to appeal mostly to the far-right fringe, but Breitbart is tapping a deep reservoir of conservative dismay. Former Bush Administration official (and TIME contributor) David Frum says, “What matters to [conservatives] is not why the government is spending $15 million on this or that. What matters is a perception that hostile forces are invading your home, school and family. Those forces come in on TV and in newspapers. An enormous amount of what conservatism now does is media criticism.”

re: #261 Killgore Trout
I believe it really is tapping into fear of “experts”, ( feelings of inadequacy?)
SBOE District 10 Runoff: Experts or Citizens
The State Board of Education (SBOE) continues to be the focus of (liberal) media attention and denigration. The allegations seem to be that a majority of the the SBOE refuses to listen to the “educational experts” on some issues. Yesterday a Democratic State Senator said he would introduce legislation next year to abolish the SBOE because he disagreed with recent decisions of the board. He cites the “social conservatives” on the board for decisions regarding social studies curriculum. These decisions were made at a time when the votes on those issues were ten to five while there are only seven conservatives on the board. I doubt that the Senator would call for the abolition of the Texas Senate when his side loses votes on a party line margin.
This only highlights the current runoff in SBOE district 10. Marsha Farney, a Ph.D in Education from the University of Texas and refers to herself as a “common sense conservative,” and has no endorsements at all on her website. While she has no record of political activity or contributions, her husband Bryan Farney gave $2300 to Barak Obama during the 2008 Democratic Primary.
Her opponent is Brian Russell, a home school dad, who has been endorsed by THSC PAC and a host of conservative Republican leaders and conservative groups. Brian has said, “I believe in a rigorous knowledge-based education that teaches: an unashamedly patriotic view of American history, emphasizing the God-given individual rights and limited government enshrined the Constitution, computational mathematics, not “fuzzy” math, phonics, grammar and writing, and rigorous science in which students learn to analyze, evaluate, and critique all scientific theories.”

OK. Not everyone falls for it. But seriously, how Castro feels about HCR is approximately as important as how the average man on the street in Bhutan feels about it. It’s just Castro poking with a stick again.

Why, because he lies awake at nights crying for the little children of Los Estados Unidos who don’t have coverage because of preexisting conditions?

Anyway, for all the ranting and raving the wingnuts do about the teaching of math in schools, they show little knowledge of the subject themselves.
I could teach a child everything the wingnuts think “math” encompasses with a stack of (two colors of) poker chips, a deck of standard playing cards, and a pair of Vegas dice. Doubt they’d let me bring those things into a classroom, though.

Illegal immigration is against the law!
Impeach Obama for not enforcing US borders
Oh and the second sign is part of a giant flip book of signs. It’s up on the stage, a couple feet to the right of Palin. The previous sign it displayed (you can see it as the camera zooms in around 12min 30sec into the video) reads:
“Support and Defend

True, but with the SBOE in Texas, they’ve made it a point to see all educated types as elitist, particularly if they don’t follow the desired socon agenda. Even Thomas Jefferson wasn’t safe from them.
If you’re so far gone that even Thomas Jefferson is a threat to you, then clearly the problem isn’t with the educated or the elite, but rather with your own inadequacy. IMO, anyway.

We’ll see what facts come out but his story doesn’t add up. They called the cops on him. In fact they called early enough that the cops approached him as he was leaving. I assume the lefty would have called the cops 10-15 minutes (just guessing response time) before Breitbart decided to leave the scene when he was approached by the cops. If he was assaulted I have no problem condemning it but he’s a known liar and his story doesn’t make much sense.

The forces trying to keep immigration off the agenda for the rest of the year appear, at the moment, to have the upper hand.
However, the immigration issue resides just below the surface and can erupt like any volcano.
Indeed, George Will’s new column is about immigration:
An argument to be made about immigrant babies and citizenship
Will’s argument is very twisted, and I can only surmise he has gone senile by now, or has lied to himself so many times he can no longer understand when he is off in no-logic land.

He could have handled the whole situation better. Even Jones has said as much in public, and in his book. He knows that it went poorly, and that Landry was pretty much martyred at the time over how it all went down.
Like I said— I don’t begrudge him for doing it. The team had been on a losing streak for a few seasons by the time Jones bought them, and a new owner is allowed to bring in new blood. But it all went down so badly that it just poisoned the well.

As part of the deal, Kraft will pay Irving a $75,000 sponsorship fee prior to the demolition for charities selected by the city. The company will also provide $75,000 worth of Kraft products for local charities of its choice.
Next week, Kraft will launch a national essay contest for children as part of its promotional campaign, said Maura Gast, executive director of the Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau. The winner will get to trigger the detonation at the public demolition.

re: #353 albusteve
I never heard that particular angle on his electrification…could be I guess
Here you go:
At the festival, Al Kooper, whose session work had already impressed Dylan, was strolling about when Albert said Bob was looking for him. Dylan told Kooper he wanted to bring the “Rolling Stone” sound on-stage. Three members of the Butterfield Band were recruited: guitarist Mike Bloomfield, drummer Sam Lay, and bassist Jerome Arnold. At a party in Newport, Dylan completed his band with pianist Barry Goldberg. In a Newport mansion, Dylan rehearsed this instant group until dawn. They kept their plan secret until they walked onstage, Dylan, in a matador-outlaw orange shirt and black leather, carrying an electric guitar. From the moment the group swung into a rocking electric version of “Maggie’s Farm,” the Newport audience registered hostility. As the group finished “Farm,” there was some reserved applause and a flurry of boos. Someone shouted: “Bring back Cousin Emmy!” The microphones and speakers were all out of balance, and the sound was poor and lopsided. For even the most ardent fan of the new music, the performance was unpersuasive. As Dylan led his band into “Rolling Stone,” the audience grew shriller: “Play folk music! … Sell out! … This is a folk festival! … Get rid of that band!” Dylan began “It Takes a Train to Cry,” and the applause diminished as the heckling increased. Dylan and the group disappeared offstage, and there was a long, clumsy silence. Peter Yarrow urged Bob to return and gave him his acoustic guitar. As Bob returned on the stage alone, he discovered he didn’t have the right harmonica. “What are you doing to me?” Dylan demanded of Yarrow. To shouts for “Tambourine Man,” Dylan said: “OK, I’ll do that one for you.” The older song had a palliative effect and won strong applause. Then Dylan did “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue,” singing adieu to Newport, good-bye to the folk-purist audience.
Backstage, there had been almost as much excitement as out front. At the first sound of the amplified instruments, Pete Seeger had turned a bright purple and begun kicking his feet and flailing his arms. (A festival official said later: “I had never seen any trace of violence in Pete, except at that moment. He was furious with Dylan!”) Reportedly, one festival board member—probably Seeger—was so upset that he threatened to pull out the entire electrical wiring system. Cooler heads cautioned that plunging the audience into the dark might cause a real riot.
At a party later that night, The Chambers Brothers played rock for dancing, and a discotheque ambience descended on Newport. I asked George Wein, the festival’s technical producer, why he didn’t like folk-rock. He countered: “You’ve been brainwashed by the recording industry.” Off in a corner, a sullen Dylan sat on the lap of Betsy Siggins, of Cambridge’s Club 47. He looked stunned, shaken, and disappointed.

yes…there is enormous pressure on the Cowboys to produce, far more than other teams, and they have delivered…now the time has come again…they have put together the most exciting team in the league again…extremely dangerous…we’ll see how it plays out over the next several years
Ten years ago, I was a Cowboys hater (jealous). I am a Coloarado expat and remain a Broncos fan. But Cowboys football is different, it just is. I get it now,.
Cowboys!

I had it wrong…it was’ Baby Blue’ he gifted Newport with in his second ‘set’…quite a little story, considering the characters involved

The only thing I can say is that I hate the Cowboys less than the Yankees.
Whatever that says.

Time Magazine: Citizen Breitbart
Be prepared to have some brain bleach handy for the accompanying photo. You’ve been warned. ;)
Going back to this for a moment, I just saw this reaction to the Time article posted over on LiveJournal:
Andrew Breitbart is That Guy™ from your undergrad years. You know, the douchebag slacker who was happily coasting through academic mediocrity and only enrolled in that one random race relations course to fulfill the mandatory completion of at least one social science credit…only to discover that the course allowed for discourses that didnt worship white privilege, heteronormativity and/or patriarchy, which pissed him off to the point of spending 3 weeks trying to convince the class-full of POCs and postmdernists how they got it all backwards; that THEY’RE really the [~reverse~] racists, but then dropped the course in a fluster of frustration and outrage, and has since spent rest of his life warning Right-Wing Reactionary America about The Cultivation of Those Uppity Minorities In Academic Ivory Towers, ever since.
Heh. I think they sum up Breitbart nicely.

re: #434 Spare O’Lake
Of course the next time Dylan lost me was when he went through his mercifully brief “born again” period in the late ’70s.
Dylan always did know how to piss people off.
If not pissing them off, at least scratching their heads in confusion. Remember his work for Victoria’s Secret several years back? I know I was asking, “Huh?”
