Anthony Weiner’s penis, that he swore to withhold in order to “spare Rep. Weiner’s family”) around the studio — with a hand-held camera three feet away.

And he claims he didn’t have any idea it would leak. He’s outraged. He’s “mortified.”

Breitbart is a total asshole. But I just don’t see him as the problem in this case. It was and is a legitimate story and he broke it. It does not excuse his past misdeeds, but neither should his past misdeeds color this story at this point. Did he pretend to want to withhold the picture and at the same time act carelessly with it and be willfully blind to others who would exploit it? Totally. But to me that is not a story. Its a grudge IMHO.

Breitbart has got to be the most deluded of megalomaniacs if he thinks he can just go around ruining people without consequences.

He announced he was going to destroy an Obama official. This is a clear statement of intent to do malice.

He knowingly publicized falsely edited tapes that were so hacked up they appeared to say the opposite of what Sherrod actually said. He also defamed her in his public speech.

She lost her job and had a media circus intrude into an otherwise quiet life.

Breitbart bragged about his dirty work.

In other words, by his own actions and own stupid statements, he knowingly and maliciously defamed an innocent woman and will shortly face an open and shut case of slander and libel.

I’m going to respond to that completely respectfully and thoughtfully. I am actually not snarking about your question. It’s a good one I think.

I think the bottom line on how is Breitbart taken seriously is that he is a base fear and smut monger. The real problems of America are complex and scary. They require a lot more thought and understanding and basic homework than the average American is willing to put into them to even address at a basic level.

However, every American can understand being afraid of some boogey man. Every American can understand penis pics. In a nation of people with 13 year old mentalities, producing gutter tripe to fear monger, or hate monger, or in this case smut monger is easily digestible and makes for a great outlet for inchoate rage. It focuses the stupid masses away from real problems and repaints the world in an over-simplified black and white with easy answers, easy enemies and simple minded foolishness.

This makes Breitbart important because he is a rabble rouser extrordinar and just the jerk to help make certain no real problems get addressed. Despite all of Weiner’s obvious flaws for example, he was asking serious questions about the financial relationship between the Koch brothers and Justice Thomas.

A dirty supreme court justice is vastly more important than errrant sexual foibles, but, it requires thought and investigation and looking into dark places. The penis pics on the other hand…

It is important to take out Breitbart, not just because he is scum and a malicious liar and an utterly worthless person, but because he is a political operative who perversely effects the tone of American politics. Agreed. It is not just them though. It is an entire culture of hurt losers who want to hurt others as “payback” for their failures. All these people do is focus that rage against easy targets based on fear or greed. The irony of course, is that the people who make it the worst for the average American, those in the insurance companies, the banks, the credit industry, the oil companies, the coal companies etc… are the real culprits and the ones directing the rage away from themselves.

We are in an inverted French Revolution with the teapartiers. The unwashed and uneducated masses are taking to the streets and demanding more power to the aristocrats, at the expense of their own finances, security and in the case of AGW very future as a civilization.

It is no accident that education and science are always first on the GOP chopping block amidst a great deal of hate and fear mongering that always ends up producing corporate welfare at the expense of the average American. The Average American though blindly holds on to the idea that the system is still open to him and that he will still one day be wealthy like his masters. Ironically, he feels he will be able to piss on others from there as well.

We are a morally and intellectually bankrupt culture on the average. Those who give a damn and actually know what they are talking about are insignificant in terms of numbers and finances. We are seeing the full flower of our cultural demise at the moment.

Soon there will be a full flower of an ecological demise if we do not act also. That is already started. And the masses will continue to serve the corporate masters until the very end. The GOP master types like the Kochs or Cheney or Don Blankenship probably feel that they will survive anything that comes. I am certain that they have convinced themselves there is probably nothing to worry about - but if so, all those billions of deaths are for “surplus” people.

The whole thing makes me sick.

We do the best we can do. The company I work for is holding an event this week in DC the deals with energy efficiency and renewables. I helped fill that event and the last seat I sold was to a company that makes LED lights, which lower energy use. Your part is greater than mine, but we both do our part. It started out nicely—“Kevin & Carmen 4 Evah” and so on. That was the side facing the back of the parking lot.

By the time they’d worked around to the other side, they were on to penises and swastikas, which was what poor Kevin returned to find his car covered it.

The dean of students had a rough week behind that one.

I did see 4 very interesting things today, though. Two of them were fun little things: A excellent condition light blue VW van (rare to see in Chicago) and a community garden that was called a Victory Garden (a name used during WWII). The other two things had more import, one of them good, the other not:

The bad thing was an anti-abortion protest along Michigan Avenue. I’m no fan of NARAL, but this was one of those groups whose protest consists of holding up large signs with pictures of an aborted fetus. It’s gruesome and served to make people sick rather than convince them of anything. It just came across as a Phelps-like bit of nastiness and stupidity.

The good thing was a person kayaking down the Chicago River, that I saw out of my window at work. While this may seem small, I’m old enough to remember when the river was still so polluted that doing that would badly sicken you. For the Chicago River’s quality to have improved that much in 30 years is surely a positive sight.

Lol… It has been months since I’ve looked over there…

Let me guess they are angry that I pointed out that there are very serious questions to be asked about whether or not Justice Thomas is dirty?

Or is it that they are upset that every sane person still knows that Breitbart is a malicious liar and a con artist who has committed crimes he will pay for in a court of law?

Or is it that they are upset that science is still proving their idiotic delusions about AGW disastrously wrong, and that I have correctly pinned them as too stupid to get it?

That one saddens me the most as a source of irony. If there were one thing in my whole life I wish I were completely wrong about, it is AGW… Unfortunately, all that math and physics keeps adding up, and the predicted droughts in China, the US SW and Australia, and the predicted disasters along the Mississippi and all of those killer tornadoes, and the predicted winter weather patterns keep showing it all to be terribly true.

Or is it simply that they are the same obsessed pathetic lowlifes they have always been and they hate the fact that everyone here is so very much smarter and better educated than they are.

Went to Chicago last April for the first time, and loved it. You guys talk baseball all the time, so I was in heaven. Might do the fortieth birthday next month at Wrigley. Not a Cubs fan, but my Astros are in town that weekend, and I wad thinking a couple of games while half-working shooting photographs.

Wrigley is still very impressive. I was there the Friday before Memorial Day with my dad and so folks from work. We had fun, but of course the Cubs lost.

What I, personally, do NOT want to see is repetition of their insults, goading, and the “waves to the stalkers” sign-off you use. I feel that encourages their behavior and is tantamount to letting them win. I got enough of that sick place when I checked it during the RP fiasco, and don’t want their feces continually brought here and smeared all over the floor.

Exactly. The great thing about those idiots being banned is that we don’t have to waste our time reading their garbage. When people use LGF to maintain conversations with them they are giving them exactly what they crave - attention.
