Trump uses the State of the Union speech to give the highest civilian honor in the land to a man who has among other things wished for the failure of a PResident before he even took the oath of office. Sorry for sounding so angry and cursing. It’s just. I have never despaired so much. What the fuck happened to our country that a man like this was even possible? Morrill County Board chair says commissioners ‘value their Second Amendment,’ oppose ‘red flag’ bill (Goes to the Scottsbluff, Nebr. Star-Herald).
Morrill County made news during its Jan. 28 meeting when commissioners unanimously passed a resolution opposing a “red flag” bill that’s currently being considered in the Legislature. Basically, they’re saying that if a red flag law passes, they would support the county sheriff if he decides not to enforce the law, declaring such laws as being unconstitutional.
LB 58, a holdover bill from the 2019 session, implements the Extreme Risk Protection Order Act. In effect, it would allow a court to intervene in extreme cases where a person has demonstrated they are a danger to themselves or others.

The thing that never Trumpers need to realize is their ideology has always been pretty rotten. It was rotten when Buckley was extolling the virtues of the Jim Crow South in the 50’s. It was awful when Goldwater opposed the most important civil rights legislation in history in the 60’s. It was awful when Nixon covered up Watergate in the 70’s. It was awful when Reagan opened up his campaign where three civil rights workers were murdered and with a grin told the audience about his belief in states rights in the 80’s. It was awful in the 90’s when right wingers encouraged right wing militias. It was awful in the 2000’s when Bush used fear of same sex marriage to get reelected. It awful in the 2010’s when the first African American President had his birthright questioned and mocked. And it’s awful here in the 2020’s as Donald Trump gets a complete pass from Congressional Republicans on extorting an ally to investigate his rival. I know the voter amnesia in 2022 will exist because so many in our base will think that a Democrat being President means we’re safe. Vote every last Republican out. Yes, that’s a very key distinction. Edwards lost a lot of respect when that was revealed. Newt ran for President in 2012 and he’s still seen as a respected elderstatesman. IMO we still were cleaning up Bush’s messes. I can’t put a timeline on this. My best hope is the changing demographics blow the GOP up as a viable party for the future and eventually a sane conservative ideology emerges but I’m not optimistic about that.

I didn’t watch what I knew would be a steaming pile of crap and lies from Trump. I have seen the endless parade of critics hitting on Pelosi for tearing up the printed copies provided by Trump.
That speaks volumes - on the media mendacity and how they continue to deflect and distract from Trump’s actions.
Pelosi tore up her copies. Big fucking deal. It was intended to get under Trump’s skin, and this morning Trump has retweeted a bunch of criticisms of Pelosi, which is exactly what Pelosi knew would happen. Instead of messaging on the SOTU, he’s easily baited and distracted.
As for the content of the speech itself, it was the typical Trump stump speech - nonstop lies and misinformation. None were bigger than his claim that he’s protecting people with preexisting conditions. The GOP has spent a decade trying to destroy Obamacare and that includes the Obamacare provision that requires insurers to not discriminate against those with preexisting conditions. The GOP has spent a decade trying to repeal Obamacare and this provision legislatively.
They are still trying to invalidate it in the courts, and this past week they tried to delay the case from being heard until after the elections, because they know that if it came out before the election, the public would know that the GOP were behind this effort and the GOP has no plan for what comes next.
It’s all lies and projection. The GOP doesn’t care. They enable the most corrupt and criminal admin in our nation’s history and allow an unindicted coconspirator in federal felonies to lie and crime his way to stay in power at any cost - the cost being shredding the US Constitution. It’s what McConnell does best, but sure, let’s focus on Pelosi ripping up the SOTU.
It’s a sad state of affairs. Trump spending so much time lying about Obama and the economy under Obama to puff up his own puttering economy that his own actions have slowed via his idiotic trade war. Trump’s had to resort to socialistic bailouts of farmers to avoid even more farm bankruptcies.
We see manufacturing slow down due to the trade war, because American importers are the ones paying for it - and passing along the higher costs to American consumers.
So sure, cheer that a Marine came home and was reunited with his family on live tv. That’s a feels moment that should not distract from fact that Trump also gave a completely undeserved medal of freedom to Rush. The only reason that he did so was because Rush announced he had stage 4 cancer, and this is another value signaling effort to show that Rush’s misinformation campaign will continue and is approved by Trumpworld. That’s what that is about. The misogynist and bigot Rush was given a medal by an approving misogynistic sex predator and bigot Trump.
The rest of the speech is the same mix of vaporware and lies, and that includes his claims he’s going to have another round of tax cuts. There’s no tax cuts planned, and it’s not going to happen. The ME peace process is DOA as even far right Israelis pan the plan while the Arab World and Palestinians also ignore it.
The dull thud is how this went down - and Pelosi clapped back.

If you may and this is why I do get frustrated. I hate how Bernie has sold what the American presidency means to young people. I haven’t seen them go after people with disabilities but I always felt lost in their world. They propose things like free college for all but I find myself wondering where former IEP kids like myself benefit from Bernie’s plans. I’m on board with free community college for all because I think community college is and I speak from personal experience where high school kids can mature academically. I’m just sick of pseudo revolutionary nonsense from the likes of these guys who think their one size fits all solutions are the answer to everything.

I didn’t see that, thanks. I actually only recently got a Twitter account. That’s the real reason why I changed my username handle here. I’m trying to better understand social media and its role on what the hell is oging on. I’ve been on FB for years. I’m actually sometimes a little slow on tech stuff. I’m telling you. I’m tickled pink by the fact that they’re complaining about the caucuses rewarding Pete with more delegates than him. They wanted to keep the caucuses and then ranked voting. They just never consider that not everyone loves Bernie Sanders. They really are the children of Ron Paul’s movement in a lot of ways. People who want a self fancied revolutionary who really is anything but. Obama’s legacy in the end I think will be making the Executive Branch a supporter of the rights of all. Only in wingnut world could the person who actually did have the unemployment rate be cut in half and the guy who ran claiming we were in worse shape than the Great Depression be given credit for that. I voted for Frank Wolf for Congress once. He was and I let his grandson know this when I worked the polls one day helpful to his constituents. Plus and this is why I know ODS was big but when he spoke at my high school, he recommended a book by Samantha Power who later became an Obama adviser. The best Virginia Republican though is John Warner. He’s done everything from opposing Bork’s nomination to SCOTUS to recently saying the Senate should have called witnesses. 93 years old and one of the last former Korean War/WWII vets taht served in the Senate left. He also endorsed HRC and both of Virginia’s Democratic senators. He’s still a Republican unfortunately but he has independence.

Reality-TV star Kim Kardashian West had lobbied the president for a commutation of her sentence, which he granted in 2018. It will come as no surprise that the commercial was based on several lies.
…Trump has ruled on only 204 clemency requests — 24 approvals and 180 denials. That is the slowest pace in decades.
Just like everything else with Trump, the power of clemency has become a transactional process: you do something for me and I’ll do something for you. That is why the president’s first pardon went to nativist sheriff Joe Arpaio, who had been a vocal Trump supporter.

The January 19 post has nearly 3,500 hits as of today.

If Jeb somehow became the GOP nominee four years ago, Rush would be praising Jeb and Jeb’s greatness. That’s what makes Rush so sad. He really is somehow who has no original thoughts other than Goooooooo team. I just wish Rush could live to see a woman President.

The reason the GOP hates the idea of a President Pence is because if Pence (and the Cabinet) invoked the 25th against Trump, the base would turn on the GOP and sit out this November’s election out of pure, unadulterated spite.

I had a classmate when in my lab for my required science credit at college that was sipping on Rush branded iced tea one day. I just don’t get the guy’s appeal. I don’t like Bill Maher either so it’s not a left-right thing. It’s that Rush appeals to stupidity, meanness, and ignorance.

This same situation is currently going on right now in Kansas. The Governor’s tax hikes have resulted in massive revenue that Republicans are now saying is “immoral” for the government to realize. This load of bilk comes straight from the same lackies that cheered the previous Republican Governor’s complete and total fail in Libertarian Economics that resulted in a cash-strapped state mired in budget deficts.
