You can clearly see that Wikileaks is biased and acting as a political operative. It's not about information or journalism in my view. Colbert uses not so humorous humor in acerbic manner here to flay Assange over his somewhat hyperbolic portrayal of the incident.
What Assange is doing is akin to Breitbart, but not quite the same or as high a level of subterfuge. In Breitbart's case he's sending in actors and editing to manufacture news. With Assange he's "leaking" selective bits of real events and information and priming the audience towards how they should receive it. Of the two Assange is the lesser of two evils, but he's evil nonetheless -- he's much more masterful with his agitprop than Breitbart as well.

They edited out stuff about the ground troops being pinned down by small arms and rpg's. They edited out a lot of the chatter of the pilots getting permission to fire. The worst thing they took out is there was a van in the area moving enemy fighters. The van actually shows up in the unedited version. When the van (which contained two young children) pulls up to rescue the journalist and his armed escort the pilots don't see the children and are eager to fire before they escape.

The problem with wikileaks is you don't know what to believe or disbelieve because at several points they've been dishonest. I can attack them for being dishonest, but as to their bias I think Colbert hit it dead on at the end of the segment. They are biased towards sensationalist information that will draw them hits, and if it takes showing dead bodies or lying about their founders they will do it.

I'm here for a quick joke...
A couple decided to come up with a test to see what their young son might grow up to be by testing the kinds of things he was attracted to.
The mother and father set up a table. They put an art book (to represent the arts) a Bible (to represent a calling to faith) a small telescope (to represent the sciences) a ten dollar bill (to represent finance) and a cap gun (to represent a military bent). Over the objections of the mother, the father also left a bottle of whiskey.
The parents hid and waited to see what their boy would do when he found the table.
The boy came in to the room and knocked over the telescope collecting the $10. He briefly flipped through the bible only to put it down. After taking a long pull from the bottle of whiskey, the boy saw the cap gun and began playing with it. When the cap went off and made a loud bang, the boy dropped the cap gun. He left the room with the whiskey, the ten, and the bible.
"Dear God!" exclaimed the father. "He's going to be a Republican!"

I had a similar experience with Soros.
Code Pink is a small, Berkeley-based (well, Albany until they sold the cottage) organization. They're mostly older hippie ladies, of the less nice kind, who protest stuff the United States and Israel do, typical knee-jerk left-wing causes, and do a lot of actions and street theater around their pet 'things'. They are led by Medea Benjamin, and like to dress up. They also spend a lot of time demonstrating in front of Nancy Pelosi's house in SF, since it's nearby and in a nice neighborhood.
They have approximately the political influence of the East Wichita Humane Society, but they do show up at lots of events, are colorful and easy to spot, and were readily made the face of the eeeevil left during the height of the anti-war movement.
They're unpleasant as hell, arrogant, naive, also anti-Semites, but they are often attributed a power well beyond them by people who seem to think they have a voice in the Democratic party.

I don't look good in bright or light shades of blue, I'm sort of olive-complected. Is there a blouse available in a nice indigo or navy?

They're a liberal anti-war group (anti Iraq war specifically) that hollers a lot and often sneaks into congres to holler some more. They're often derided for their use of zany puppets. And they're often ginned up as a false equivalency thing to Tea Partiers, these days. Because anti war women are exactly the same as insane racists and secessionists :D
Well, also, there's about twenty of them on a REALLY good day.

Apparently fueled by a shitty site called Crash The Tea Party with the goal of infiltrating the parties and presenting an even shittier image, there's a counter movement to expose the infiltrators, now being a cause du jour over at Pajamas Media, where you can find the following (I won't link directly, 'cause I'm unsure about the policy on that):
Things to do:
* DO get photos or video of any offensive signs or behavior — racist signs, signs connecting O’s administration to Nazis, anti-Semitic signs, signs calling for violence — and send them to tpcrashers@pjtv.com.
* DO inform them calmly and civilly that the signs and behavior are unwelcome.
* DO get pictures including the faces of people holding, the people standing with the offensive signs, and context.
* DO have “Infiltrator” and “Brought to you by…” signs as described in the comments, and stay close to the offensive signs so it’s hard for the legacy media to single them out.
* DO capture video of people shouting offensive words or slogans. Loudly — but calmly and civilly — challenge them for the misbehavior, and get that on video, so it’s clear it was denounced at the time.
* DO assume people with their faces covered, especially with a balaclava or ski mask, is not your friend.
* DO report any harassment or assaults to the police, and capture that report on video as well, if possible. /.../
* DO KEEP YOUR COOL. Keep calm. Be nice. These people are agents provocateurs, and the worst thing you can do to them is not be provoked.
So essentially this is a goldmine for pro-Tea Party fellows who can now document any ugliness themselves and use it as evidence of the Other Side's nastiness. Tails I win, heads you lose.
On the upside, the article also contains this note.
* DO NOT make any concerted attempt to figure out if someone is a “real” Tea Partier or a plant. If they’re being offensive, get their pictures, send them in. No one with a racist sign is a friend of the Tea Party movement, no matter how much they say they are on the Tea Party’s side.
..which ultimately is a bit toothless when, as noted here on LGF, the upper echelons of the movement refuse to make this distinction.

re: #82 SanFranciscoZionist
I had a similar experience with Soros.
Code Pink is a small, Berkeley-based (well, Albany until they sold the cottage) organization. They're mostly older hippie ladies, of the less nice kind, who protest stuff the United States and Israel do, typical knee-jerk left-wing causes, and do a lot of actions and street theater around their pet 'things'. They are led by Medea Benjamin, and like to dress up. They also spend a lot of time demonstrating in front of Nancy Pelosi's house in SF, since it's nearby and in a nice neighborhood.
They have approximately the political influence of the East Wichita Humane Society, but they do show up at lots of events, are colorful and easy to spot, and were readily made the face of the eeevil left during the height of the anti-war movement.
They're unpleasant as hell, arrogant, naive, also anti-Semites, but they are often attributed a power well beyond them by people who seem to think they have a voice in the Democratic party.
I'm really not familiar with them, either. Are they the group that people on the right pull pictures of to show all the nasty things that were said about Bush in order to justify tea party signs?

Like, the website will be clearly registered to a Tea Party guy or something.
Again, via a PJM article:
As you may suspect, crashtheteaparty.org was not created by a Republican or an independent, but instead by someone with a red-tinted sickle to grind. In this instance, the suspect appears to be a conspiratorial 36-year-old from the Pacific Northwest named Jason Levin. He started promoting the site on April 8 on his personal Twitter account, but failed to do an adequate job of covering up his personal information when he registered the domain five days earlier.
The sources for those claims is a blog post (which seems to be a thin summary of a Malkin post) and a twitter feed.

Not a fan of wikileaks but am glad they have a channel for their speech. Unlike Code Pink, they aren't prone to bad craziness. Unlike the ANSWER protesters, they aren't prone to violence. Assange is honest and that goes a long way.
I can only imagine the fun Colbert (or even Stewart) would have with Breitbart. We probably won't see this any time soon--I think Breitbart realizes he's way out of his league with people who are both bright and witty.

I prefer his honesty about it rather than have him trying to wriggle out of it.
The Brietbart tapes were also edited tapes, edited to show events as they did NOT happen, and released solely for political impact.
I don't like either side doing it.
Which "side" is this guy on?

I have absoluely no clue, truly. This bunch seems a mix.
I should say - I don't like the dishonesty when anyone does it.

And that's a consistent position of mine.
