Jim Hoft’s Latest Sick Crusade: Attack NGOs Receiving Federal Money to Shelter Immigrant Kids

Caring for kids is an Obama plot!!11ty!!
Immigration • Views: 47,503

Apparently the latest thing over Jim Hoft’s The Gateway Pundit blog is to pinpoint and attack any NGO that receives federal grants to care for undocumented immigrant children.

A week ago. Hoft’s “guest blogger” Kristinn Taylor torpedoed a shelter proposed by BCFS, a charitable organization based in San Antonio. Taylor declared, falsely, that BCFS had received a $50 million federal grant to turn a rundown hotel into a “luxury resort” for immigrant children.

BCFS has since abandoned the project in Weslaco, Texas.

Now, Hoft’s latest target is Southwest Key Programs of Austin, which like BCFS, has received federal grants for shelters and programs benefiting children coming over the border with Mexico.

While Hoft himself offered little comment, he posted in its entirety a story by KEYE-TV of San Antonio to let visitors to his site rant about it.

Southwest Key Programs has received nearly $485 million in federal grants (taggs.hhs.gov) since 2004, but to read the comments, you’d swear these people think it’s all a plot by the Democrats and President Barack Obama to win elections.

Idiots don’t seem to realize children can’t vote.

Some sample comments, to give you the flavor.

They are PROFITING from child trafficking! AT OUR EXPENSE!!!

No words, yes, me, as all here know, I have more than my share of comments but

I am at a complete loss for words. Well, one word keeps coming to mind, IMPEACH.

But, I do have to say, Obama knew about this years ago but he didn’t know About Our Veterans and their mistreatment at the VA?

Obama picks and chooses what is important to them, selfishly and maliciously.

“Charities” getting fat off the American taxpayer. This is run by a husband and wife. They spend over $1 million a year lobbying. Sanchez made $278,000 in 2012 ‘caring for the children’. I’m sure he makes much more now with all that extra money Obama is throwing at him.

Arizona 11 electoral votes, Texas 32 electoral votes and Georgia 16 electoral votes. The blueprint for the Democrats to try and flip three solid Republican states. The Democrats are importing lice infested dead beats to these states to flip them by 2016, or by 2020 at the latest.

My dad told me before he died that his fight was overseas during WWII, and my fight would be here at home.

They rant and rave about the government awarding grants to agencies to deal with the immigrant children, but the only alternative they offer is to deport the kids. Who feeds and shelters the children in the meantime?

Great post! I really like the idea of staying on Hoft and his xenophobic insanity, because his BS is getting heavily promoted by right wing media, and he’s causing serious harm to real people.

I wonder if Fox News was embarrassed enough by having to retract that $50M resort lie that they’ll think twice about pushing another Hoft fable? (Probably not.)

You’re on a roll! Kudos. The right wing shows so much compassion for kids and those who are unable to care for themselves, that they are trying to outdo each other for who can have the most outrageous response to NGOs (including charitable and religious groups) that are working to safely address safely house these people until they are fully handled and processed by DHS.

Apparently right wingers like Hoft think that we should just turn out backs on these kids and send them packing, all while complaining about the cost to do exactly what they want (which is to put them on planes to their country of origin or kick them back over the border to Mexico).

A meme that I keep seeing over and over and over again is that there is a direct link between illegal immigration and veterans.

OBAMA IS TAKIN AWAY TEH MONEYS FROM ARE BRAVE VETERANS AN GIVIN IT TO TEH ILLEGALS!!!!!!

Granted the VA is fucked up but nothing is being taken away from veterans as opposed to any other federal program.

I wonder how wingnuts would feel if it was revealed that the money was coming out of corporate subsidies.

I checked his site today to see if they had said anything about the the lack of apologies coming their way. Nothing, but I did find the post about Southwest Key Programs.

Note that Hoft copied the entire article from KEYE-TV. Talk about lazy blogging.

I can’t think of anything that should be more explicitly ‘Christian’ than taking care of kids. That christ-warriors like Hoft are angry that children are being cared for is a sign of severe cognitive dissonance, not to mention unbelievable assholery.

re: #17 Charles Johnson

For a supposed crisis that has been going on for years, Perry is only taking action now, right at a point in time when the crisis appears to not only be ebbing from a numerical standpoint (the number of kids crossing the border illegally is dropping) but right before the midterm elections and just as the race for the White House in 2016 is beginning to take shape. He knows he has to do something dramatic to garner attention when he’s polling in the low single digits among GOP pretenders/contenders for the nomination. So, making a big production about sending Guardsmen to the border is his attempt to break out of the doldrums.

He’s doing it for the optics and for pressing his position with an eye towards 2016 and not for a human rights crisis with kids trying to cross the border to get to a better life here.

You shouldn’t, but people have been calling themselves Christians just to look good since, well, shortly after Christ died. It’s stupid and it’s my major pet peeve, but I’m just one guy. Check this: According to a recent poll (I’d have to look to find the link; this is just from a sermon I heard two weeks ago), 83% of Americans self-identify as Christians. Only 7% actually believe the most basic tenets of Christianity. Chew on that for a minute when these self-described “Christians” go off on xenophobic, racist, and/or sexist rants.

No one because I’m pretty sure they’d be in favor of shooting the kids the second they set foot into America. They are ‘soldiers’ servicing an ‘invasion’, after all.

This is yet one more thing to add to the tally of reasons I will use to refute any of the nonsense that America is a Christian nation. Christ would be appalled.

Sound bite rather than seriously thought out. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t be willing to shoot the children themselves (and especially not have it on tape.) And if they expect some faceless National Guardsman to do it willingly and then have to live with doing it than I am even angrier about their hypocrisy and hyperbole.

I’m reading a 2012 report by the Women’s Refugee Commission. Here’s an excerpt:

16-year-old boy forced from school by gangs

Mario,* age 16, told us the following story: He was
a student in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, one of the
most violent cities in the world. He said he had no
choice but to stay home from school after he was targeted
for recruitment by one of the gangs that dominate
many state-run schools in Honduras. When he
told the gang members, “No, I’m good,” they left him
alone for a little while. Then one girl started saying
he had to join and incited other gang members who
threatened physical violence. Because it was no longer
safe enough to go to school in his home town
and he could not afford private school in Honduras,
he came to the U.S., where he hoped he would have
the opportunity to work and study.

report to protect the identities of the children.

re: #46 Gus

Yeah, a Bush I appointee and a Bush II appointee both found in Halbig v. Burwell that those living in states where the GOP refused to implement their own exchanges are not eligible for subsidies because the law as written states that appears to limit the subsidies to “… an Exchange established by the State.”

The problem with that extremely narrow reading is that everywhere else in the ACA enabling language, it talks about extending universal access to health insurance and the Supreme Court has previously ruled that “a reviewing court should not confine itself to examining a particular statutory provision in isolation”. Construing the words as narrowly as these judges have done would ignore the entirety and purpose of the law as a whole. In fact, there’s a separate provision in the ACA that indicates that a state that doesn’t establish its own exchange and opts for the federal exchange will have deemed to have established an exchange. In other words, even those states that have opted for the federal exchange have actually created the exchange, but the feds are the ones managing it.

This decision should be overturned on appeal, but with GOPers getting lucky on other provisions, the outcome shouldn’t be taken as assured.

Note too that any effort to fix this drafting error will get bogged down and never get out of the House, so we’re stuck with this until the Supreme Court eventually rules. And there are other cases pending on different aspects of the ACA.

If the GOP gets their wish, Halbig would eliminate the subsidies for residents of the 34 states that refused to create their own exchanges.

The text of the decision is here:

The only people standing up to him are Charles and other bloggers, in addition to Colbert and Stewart.

Our vaunted liberal mainstream press? Nowhere to be found.

t’s like an episode of South Park where Cartman gets away with one of his schemes because no one else cares.

Days like this, where conservatives are openly attacking their own kind (religious groups, in the case) for helping children? These are the days where I wonder if some kind of civil war is coming again.

There’s a large part of our country that’s become openly and unapologetically unhinged because a black guy is running the country. Their representatives in Congress have essentially said we’d rather wreck the US than work with this guy.

I’m really starting to lose patience with these people.

OT Drive-by: Behold, the slippery slope we were warned about post-9/11. I don’t know if this is on anyone’s radar yet. If not, there’s sure to be much outrage & gnashing of teeth when it sinks in what broad powers this gives law enforcement. There’s a link to the judge’s explanation of his opinion (23 pages worth) at the source. Added emphasis is mine:

Your Gmail account is fair game for cops or feds, says US judge

At the heart of the case is an investigation in which the FBI had probable cause to believe that its target had been using an email account to engage in criminal activity and that emails and other information in his Google account would provide evidence of his crimes.

The search warrant directs Google to cough up everything associated with the email account, including all emails, whether they were sent, received, or just stored as drafts.

It also went after everything in the target’s address book.

The warrant contained no search protocol.

Nor did it put any limits on how much time the government has to review whatever information Google discloses or require the government to destruct that material.

In other words, the sweeping nature of the warrant in this case is similar to other recent cases in which judges denied warrants because they gave the government access to too many emails that weren’t relevant to the crimes under investigation. […]

If someone has time to Page this, please feel free to do so. No need to credit me—I’m just passing it along.

I saw that moronic tweet in Tweetbot, and had to scratch my head - he’s accusing me of racism? Wut?

Then I realized it was because of the caption, “Come at me, brown kids!”

This is one of the weirdest things wingnuts do - ignore all context and pretend just using a term like “brown kids” makes you a racist. Their thinking is all messed up; it’s bullshit and they know it.

Well, they are crackheads after all, and after living with several over the years I know how irrational and violent their behaviour is.

Crackheads is now my go-to term for wingnuts. Like Hoft and all the others they are stoned out their gourds on fear, anger and hate.

This sounds like the obvious initial result of people moving their correspondence into the “cloud”. A search warrant isn’t going to find letters in desk drawers anymore. And there won’t be Word docs and such on the hard drive of the home computer. So now the next step is to claim broad access to any external locations where a suspect could possibly store messages and other data.

What gets me is these two agencies have been receiving federal grants since 2000 (BCFS) and 2004 (Southwest Key), during Republican administrations. Now, all of a sudden, RWNJs have woken up to the fact these agencies are now receiving federal grants while a black guy is in the White House and they go apeshit.

Granted, under the Obama administration the size of the grants has increased, but so has the need for UAC (unaccompanied children) services. In 2007, there were about 7,300 UACs under federal or NGO care. In 2012, a little more than 10,000. Now there are between 50,000 and 60,000. That’s a lot of kids to clothe, feed, shelter, counsel, repatriate or resettle, and educate. Those kind of services don’t come cheap.

Just how twisted can a person be?

I’m shocked at the countless hundreds of millions of dollars that have been spent over the years in the desperate and fruitless search for extraterrestrial life. Even Bill Nye “the Science Guy,” in our recent debate, happily gloated about tax dollars being spent toward this effort. And now, secular scientists are at it again.

Of course, secularists are desperate to find life in outer space, as they believe that would provide evidence that life can evolve in different locations and given the supposed right conditions! The search for extraterrestrial life is really driven by man’s rebellion against God in a desperate attempt to supposedly prove evolution!

Oh, but don’t forget to buy something:

We need to start proclaiming the authority of God’s Word from the very first verse—even on the subject of alien life! Pretty Twisted

The fundamentalist group is associated with creationist Ken Ham, head of the Answers in Genesis ministry, who claims their mission is part of a spiritual battle dating back to the temptation in the biblical Garden of Eden.

“If all life arose by natural processes, and there was no God, why would people even care what others were taught?” Ham said. “After all, for the secularists, when they die they will cease to exist—and in their belief system, they won’t know they even existed—so why should they care what is taught to children?”

Yeah, it’s an apartment building. One of the tallest in the world, and it’s set to be topped by several others in NYC including a couple in progress on 57th Street.

The Woolworth Building is also undergoing renovations to build condos on the upper floors. Those would be truly super luxury - old school luxury at that.

And Silverstein is building a luxury condo/hotel at 30 Park Place that will be taller than both Woolworth and 8 Spruce designed by Robert AM Stern.

Your comment to a degree reminds me of all the folks here in Columbus that threw a fit when the city went with “deconstructionist” Peter Eisenman for our convention center. People that like everything nice and tidy and in traditional 90° squares, etc. threw a fit. I liked it because it was bold and fun..something Columbus seems to have issues with. And if viewed from above, it is reminiscent of railroad cars on the trains tracks. It was built where the old Union Station passenger railroad terminal was. Inside it has a bunch of eye-deceiving optical illusions.

In his 2007 book “A Farewell to Alms,” the economic historian Gregory Clark argued that the English came to rule the world largely because their rich outbred their poor, and thus embedded their superior genes and values throughout the nation. In her comprehensive takedown, the historian Deirdre N. McCloskey noted that Clark’s idea was a “bold hypothesis, and was bold when first articulated by social Darwinists such as Charles Davenport and Francis Galton in the century before last.” Indeed, over the past 150 years, various white Western scientists and writers have repeatedly offered biological explanations for Caucasian superiority. They have repeatedly failed because, as McCloskey noted, none ever mounted a credible quantitative argument.

Now, in “A Troublesome Inheritance,” Nicholas Wade, a longtime science writer for The New York Times, says modern genetics shows that “the three major races,” Africans, Caucasians and East Asians, are genetically distinct races that diverge much as subspecies do, and that their genetic differences underlie “the rise of the West.”

Out bred? without Contraception? more likely rich children lived.

Whatever else you could say about Soviet communism, it had a much more tightly knit social system. People on drugs would not go unnoticed and would be dealt with.

Now the system has fallen apart, there is nobody to police the drug smugglers or care about their victims.

You can get lists. If she’s ever gotten anything, she’s on a list. Lists can be bought or hacked.

If they made no mention if her bank or anything personal, I’d just warn her to be weary of inbound calls. If they mentioned anything personal, I’d give the bank a call and advise them…and ask what their fraud policies are.

I had a fraud issue and 5/3rd was HORRIBLE. It took three months of my money being locked up, a visit to the police (where I had to pay for a police report) and numerous faxes and follow ups. Chase, OTOH, takes a proactive stance.

I’d put a heavy block on any cards m, if you think it’s warranted (cancel any mentioned and get replacements).

230 lawhawk  Jul 22, 2014 9:48:09am

The FAA order will actually have more effect on getting Israel to stop its military action against Hamas than events on the ground. It’s the optics and the tide of public opinion that will ultimately get Netenyahu to cease going after Hamas on the ground.

This all comes as Hamas has fired missiles/rockets that have landed near the airport. The airlines rightfully don’t want to see their gear destroyed by the missiles or rockets, and that’ll be more than enough to keep them away.

That has the effect of imposing economic harms on Israel (lost tourism/commerce) and indirectly strengthens Hamas’ hand.

At the same time, I’ve seen some truly idiotic reporting/commentary on the situation in Gaza. Like the one that claims that Hamas has truly gone from being an amateur outfit to a professional militia that can go toe to toe with Israel. Except that it doesn’t. It’s operating as a guerrilla group would - negating Israel’s technological advantages by fighting underground and close quarters where tanks, artillery, and aircraft/UAVs have little effect and it is a man-on-man platoon fight where you’re fighting room to room, under buildings and in tunnels. It might have longer range weapons, but the casualties inflicted are still overwhelmingly from the close-quarters combat between IDF and Hamas in the warrens of Gaza.

“Genocide” is thrown around a lot. I remember how Russia was accused of a “genocide” of Chechens by many in the West. What Russia did was, of course, brutal, but not anywhere near genocide.

Yep. Would be a first. “Genocide committed against Gaza” correlating with an increasing population. How does that work? Has nothing to do where a person stands either. One can vehemently oppose Israel’s response here without seeing “genocide.” That’s what a rational person would do. But, this is the internet.

Democide: the murder of any person or people by their government, including genocide, politicide and mass murder.

Ethnic cleansing: the mass expulsion or killing of members of an unwanted ethnic or religious group in a society. Forcible relocation of a group from a geographic area/region.

Genocide: the systematic and deliberate killing of a particular ethnic, cultural or religious group because they belong to that particular ethnic, cultural or religious group.

There’s also politicide, which includes the deliberate physical destruction of a group whose members share the main characteristic of belonging to a political movement.

Ethnic cleansing can be undertaken in context of both genocide and democide. Genocide specifically relates to the democide or politicide on grounds of a specific policy to slaughter a group on their ethnic, cultural or religious beliefs. It is frequently a policy that is undertaken in conjunction with genocide or democide, but can be a standalone policy.

Genocide is a specific form of democide.

In a way, but if you want to emulate iridescence you use colors that “pop” and that happens by using colors that are directly across from each other on the color wheel…but not always in pure form. Like orange versus blue, green versus red. Study that image and you’ll see it. Like the area right below the eye…orange and blue. Also, look how the lighter colors are right on top of similar colors…like the light blue greens on top of darker blues. It all gives an image of light and dimension…pop!

And with that…back to my campaign of finding some freakin’ freelance work. It has not been going so good lately. I am in full out war to find clients…before I end up as a greeter at WalMart.

And when you are talking about a government that refuses to secure our borders, you are talking about a government that is not taking seriously its responsibility to defend us.”

Furthermore, as Christians we are called to protect Israel and stand with this nation of people that God has blessed. Not only should we push for strong foreign policy, but we must also be in prayer for our Jewish friends. Ultimately, God is eager to bring his people back to Him and to direct their zeal for the law into a zeal for Christ’s already accomplished salvation on the Cross for both Jews and Gentiles alike.

That’s the billion dollar question. And no one has any good answers.

Hamas seems to have an answer to that question - they’ll keep firing their munitions until they’ve expired their stockpiles. Israel will continue taking that fire until they have forced Hamas to expend all of its weapons.

And Gazans will continue to suffer from Hamas actions and Israeli responses.

I like Jared Diamond’s explanation better.

Dumb luck in being in the right place for collecting the right sorts of resources and being able to develop technology.

I read some book a while back —scholarly type extremely boring—academic author went thru every continent with painstaking detail. His conclusion is that Europe thrived because she had good environment for growing food was protected on all sides —ice to the North, Sea to the West and South and Mountains to the East.

It allowed a greater amount of time for people to develop between catastrophes (natural disaster, invasion whatever).

Yea, basically luck.

Obama Judge Trolls Obamacare Opponents With Cheeky Pizza Analogy

In fact, Appellants’ reading is not literal; it’s cramped. No case stands for the proposition that literal readings should take place in a vacuum, acontextually, and untethered from other parts of the operative text; indeed, the case law indicates the opposite. … So does common sense: If I ask for pizza from Pizza Hut for lunch but clarify that I would be fine with a pizza from Domino’s, and I then specify that I want ham and pepperoni on my pizza from Pizza Hut, my friend who returns from Domino’s with a ham and pepperoni pizza has still complied with a literal construction of my lunch order. That is this case: Congress specified that Exchanges should be established and run by the states, but the contingency provision permits federal officials to act in place of the state when it fails to establish an Exchange.

Investigators found that the cockpit and other components were sawn in half.

International monitors who have finally gained full access to the Malaysia Airlines crash site in eastern Ukraine said Tuesday the Boeing 777’s cockpit inexplicably had been sawed in half while under the control of Russian-backed separates.

The monitors said they are not sure why the major piece of evidence from the downed plane was tampered with.

Flight 17, carrying 283 passengers and 15 crew members, crashed Thursday after being hit by what U.S. officials suspect was a surface-to-air missile launched from an area controlled by Russian-backed separatists.

The separatists and Russia have denied shooting down the plane, which was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

The cockpit was found in a section of the crash site that had been immediately cordoned off during the first two days after the plane went down. Witnesses tell USA TODAY that this was also the area where the first bodies were removed.

The cockpit apparently was cut in half with diesel-powered saws.

“The rear part of the aircraft, one of the biggest intact pieces, has definitely been hacked into,” said Michael Bociurkiw, spokesman for the group of international monitors from the Organize for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Missing remains (otherwise known as promising X and delivering far fewer than that on this train shipment). That would still leave quite a few remains that have yet to be recovered from the crash site. It also doesn’t address where/how they were found, all of which plays into the reconstruction of the crash and events leading up.

The remains could potentially show signs of different forms of trauma - blunt force from the crash on impact, or that some died when the missile warhead shredded the plane, etc. But because this was all done haphazardly, those kinds of details may not be available.

TN Republican admits he can’t prove his anti-Muslim smears against Democratic rival

The Tennesseean newspaper challenged Kelly to list specific incidents where Mohyuddin has disrespected the U.S. flag or Christian Bible and he was “was unable to cite any specific instance when Mohyuddin made such statements.” Rather, he claimed, he “heard it during private conversations” with his Democratic rival.

Mohyuddin told the News that the only private conversation he has ever had with Kelly took place 25 years ago when his family bought a house through Kelly’s real estate agent wife.

“He helped me move 25 years ago, right after I had bought my house through his wife, but we weren’t talking about politics way back then,” he said.

Kelly said that Mohyuddin must be misremembering.

So many questions were left open, like the status of Russian minorities living outside Russia, questions of assets and infrastructure - the very things that are at the heart of the current conflict in the Ukraine.

Resolving them then would have meant doing so at Russia’s disadvantage. Now they can do so from a position of strength.

Remember, Putin and his cronies were middle-echelon henchmen back then. I think they saw the long game option and stuck with it.

I remember having a discussion with a colleague who still retained his Communist Party Card. I asked him why he would want to remain associated with an organization that had failed on such a grand and historic scale.

He looked at me very Putin-esquely and simply said “Myi pobyedím”. (We will prevail)

I think that a lot could have been done to resolve the issues back then, but there were people on both sides who saw an interest in letting chaos reign for a few years before sending in a hero on horseback to restore Law and Order.

I copied the same sentence, wondering about the interpretation. Could mean anything from ‘the Alaskan border doesn’t need this, send all border guards south’ to ‘those poor Central Americans, just let them all in’.

“But officer, they were all speeding.”

re: #405 Islamo-Masonic Conspirator

Note however, that this particular brand of antisemitism that we see in these videos is not indigenous but rather imported.

I’m not sure what difference that makes, if any. All types of bigotry/hatred are based on lies, stereotypes, etc. that are used to dehumanize the hated group and make them The Other. I’m pretty sure the native antisemites wouldn’t hesitate to jump aboard, the same way the EDL does with Geller’s Islamophobia.

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend,” and all that.

re: #406 Pie-onist Overlord
I was in Navy boot camp at the time of the attack on the USS Liberty. The killing of Navy personnel was powerfully felt, across the Navy.

I learned a lot about governments, militaries, and lies—including repeated first person experiences during three tours in Vietnam — during the next four and a half years — including witnessing a wink-wink log entry by our commanding officer on the first day in the war zone, indicating that someone on shore fired something at us. Because of that lie 500 men got hazardous duty for that month.

The lies got bigger the higher up the chain of command, in my experience, and I hobnobbed with some biggies, including the only senior officer, an Air Force general, who received formal punishment stemming from his command responsibilities in Vietnam IIRC. (Not saying he, specifically, lied.)

That memory and those feelings have caused me to read the equivalent of thousands of pages of reports, documents, and opinions. I do not subscribe to conspiracy theories, but I am not comfortable with the official report. It sets off my bullshit alert. IMHO, someone got away with something.

The breakup of the USSR left the Ukraine in possession of the fifth-largest nuclear arsenal in the world.

They disarmed unilaterally against guarantees from the West to help maintain their territorial integrity.

Since we have reneged on that end of the deal, is it not only fair that we return their nukes?

Doesn’t the US have a ton of Abrams mothballed someplace?

That’s extremely vague. Why even bring it up at all if you’re not going to be more specific? Who “got away with” what? Are you asserting the Israelis lied and the U.S. covered up for them at every level?

What reports did you read? What documents? Whose opinions? Which “official report” are you uncomfortable with? According to Wikipedia there were multiple U.S. government investigations.
