Amazon’s Free Kindle Apps
External Image for a variety of computers and mobile devices.
I installed the Mac and iPhone versions and they both work well, with a few caveats. The Mac version isn’t very Mac-like; it looks like it was written with a non-standard graphic interface framework. And none of these apps currently support copy and paste.
But they do have one big advantage over the Kindle reader. Even though the Kindle itself is a gray-scale device, the computer/mobile apps display the full color information that’s actually in Kindle books — covers and interior illustrations. (The e-ink technology used by the Kindle reader is still easier on the eyes, though, than a backlit screen.)
One book that looks especially nice in color (and that I highly recommend) is Scott Kelby’s The Digital Photography Book, Volume 2External Image, with lots of photographic illustrations, info on putting together a set of photography tools like softboxes and filters without spending a fortune, and tips on using your tools effectively to take good photos.
