That post yesterday about the Logic impaired abortion thing led me to do some poking around the web, it turns out that the “not your body” approach is a pretty popular prolife argument.

Here are more examples.

NSA denies Pres Obama knew about “spying” on Merkel, contrary to Telegraph article.

This is what happens when you listen to a HS dropout BS artist who cherry-picks what he steals and releases to others, who continue to cherry-pick without having all the information. It’s not hard to understand that you have only a certain amount of “intel” which doesn’t mean much out of context, but which the media will sensationalize, along with those you work with.

What, they, Snowden & Co, thought they had the entire package? That they’re smarter than the average intel employee with yrs of experience?

Fun fact: Topologically the fetus is outside the body.

Even if you grant a fetus “personhood”,I’m not understanding why one person has a right to use my body’s organs and another doesn’t. Can anyone just take my kidney or demand a blood donation from me?

I’d like to see someone put forth a cogent argument that the life of a baby-an actual fully formed, kicking, breathing baby-is somehow more valuable than the life of a 20 year old.
Babies are adorable as a survival mechanism. What else would keep a parent from dropping a colicky 6 month old off in the forest over night so they could finally get some sleep?

Erk. Looks like I need a new kitchen faucet. The seals are leaking on this one.

Checked Amazon - there are more than 1000 kitchen faucets. OK, that’s too much choice. I do know I won’t be getting the one that costs $1,339.54, even though it does look pretty freaking cool: KOHLER K-6227-C12-vs Karbon Articulating Deck-Mount Kitchen Faucet With Black Tube, Vibrant Stainless.

Actually, gang, notions of bodily autonomy are much different in the pre-draft and post-draft generations. In fact the government can take both your kidneys and the ass below them and send the package up a hill against a machine gun. There are better approaches to the abortion question.

Also, IIRC, even the military that can send your ass up that hill can no longer force you to be a blood donor.

I would also add there’s a difference in the unfortunate necessity to have soldiers, and randomly forcing women to have children just because one thinks they should.

I’m fully old enough to have listened to draft lotteries and have held my breath with worry about friends and family members, so this may be a gender difference as much as a generational one.

Egypt moving towards religious freedom

Constitution committee eliminates all barriers to building churches in Egypt

Egypt’s 50-member committee tasked with amending the suspended 2012 constitution adopted on Sunday a transitional article that will cancel existing restrictions regulating the building of new churches.

According to Ahram Arabic news website, the committee also initially adopted an article [47] which stipulates “absolute freedom of belief” for Egyptian citizens and endows the state with the responsibility to ensure free practice of religion.

However, under pressure from representatives of Egypt’s highest Sunni authority Al-Azhar, which has demanded that freedom of religion be restricted to the three monotheistic beliefs, the committee opted to postpone its vote on article 47 until Monday.

Like “It is the express will of the people”. Your rights are always safer based on the interests of an informed electorate than relying on a philosophical principle.
Concerning the blood donor, I wouldn’t even disallow that. There is a considerable difference between what the military chooses to do and what it can do in extremis. Your military doctor specifically works for the commander, not for you. That is a real, overt policy.

It may very well be, but this is the approach that gets through to some people.

There could be an interesting discussion about what makes the draft acceptable as an override of bodily autonomy but I don’t think that it draws a very good parallel regarding medical procedures.

Your mileage may, of course, vary.

Precisely, and I think the argument that no one else is allowed to use your body like that without permission is something that needs to be pointed out to people to help counter the ‘but it (the fetus) depends on you’ argument.

Still tripping over the word “allowed”. Sending fugitive slaves back to a state of zero personal autonomy was not only allowed, the SC made it mandatory. What we have here and now is far more ephemeral than young people realize. That’s why every damn election is “the most important election of our lives”.

So most people today would agree that this was a violation of personal rights.

If we can start from a standpoint that most people agree with and move forward logically from there, people find it harder to counter and are forced to really think about it in a different way, which might lead them to a different conclusion.

I mean, I agree with you that every election is important and unfortunately this right is far more tenuous than it should be. I think I am also well aware of just how fucking important this right is.

We’re getting warmer. The point i want to make in this 3-way is that there is effectively no such thing as a personal right. When the fighting rests (it never stops) there are only political realities. If you want to maintain the ‘right’ to chose, you must rely on a GOTV precinct roll, not a philosophy.

Your best approach is to educate a working majority on the necessity, usefulness and shared benefit of your position. They can get their justice from the pulpit, and very many feel too comfortable with that.

I believe my position is just, and if we wish to pick nits here, justice is a social construct but fairness is almost certainly something we are all born with a feeling for.
While hearing from an authority that your position is the morally correct one is comfortable, people can obviously be convinced by evidence and argument to change their minds.
If one can show that it is unfair to do something (own slaves, beat your horse) then people can be persuaded that something is just and should be enshrined in law.

Actually, as I understand it “schoolyard fairness” (as you call it), played a large part in the British abolition movement. Adam Hochschild referred to it as the first time in history that people became outraged and stayed outraged over someone else’s rights. There were logical arguments, moral arguments, illustrations and stories of the horrors of slavery. All played a part in the abolition of the slave trade-but none of it as far as I know was based on individual self interest. It was, however, a very long slog.

I do not deny that motivating people who agree with one’s position to go vote is very important, but just as people’s opinions of slavery have changed world wide (it still exists, but no one wants to call it that, which is an indicator that it isn’t socially acceptable) people need to understand that bodily autonomy is not optional when it comes to reproduction as well. Logic, emotion, and yes our sense of fairness should all be part of the effort to change minds.

My ex-stepsister is a big Dylan fan. I remember her listening to him a lot when I was a kid. I wasn’t big on his voice, but I liked the songs. When I was 13, my mom talked her into letting me go with her and her friends to go see Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and Dylan when they toured together. There was an extra ticket and my mom offered the money for it if I could go.

The Salon article from Friday:

Darwin inspired Hitler: Lies they teach in Texas

is finally getting some attention around the blogosphere, e.g.:

Public-funded Texas school teaches Holocaust rooted in evolution

This is one of the real problems with publicly funding private charter schools - every wacky idea will be sold by someone as the truth and all the people in that cult will accept it.

Education of young people is indoctrination, by the denotation of those words. In our modern ideal we like to think that “education” is some path to enlightenment (whatever that is), but in practice so much of education is trying to mold young people into our images. I think we have to be really careful of remembering that, especially when it comes to these charter school movements.

Conservative group smears Rep. Justin Amash as Marxist ‘fellow traveler’ for opposing NSA spying

A small conservative group has labelled a libertarian-leaning congressman a Marxist “fellow traveler” for speaking out against the U.S. National Security Agency.

USA Survival on Sunday uploaded video of Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) speaking at a “Stop Watching Us” rally in Washington, D.C.

The group’s video begins by asking, “Dupe or dope?” It says Amash joined “leftists, Marxists and the loony left at anti-NSA Rally.” The video also notes that Amash teamed up with Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) to introduce a measure to defund some NSA surveillance operations.

One of my favorite songs, even before you start to unravel the slightly disguised references to its meaning. The fact that it is so deeply meaningful and clever about too meant that I simply had to learn it word for word. I have sung it both at campfires and karaoke bars over the last 35 or so odd years. ;)

Supremacist Guilty in Plot to Kill Judge

“Are we gonna exterminate the rat?” Evola asked, referring to Lefkow.

“Well, whatever you want to do, basically,” Hale answered.

A few minutes later, Hale added: “My position has always been that, you know, I’m going to fight within the law and, but, ah [her home address has] been provided if you wish to, ah, do anything yourself, you can…. So that makes it clear.”

Evola responded: “Consider it done.”

“Good,” Hale said.

That 2005 article shows that Greenwald was quite a bit more involved with Matt Hale and his white supremacist group than people realize. He defended Hale and his group in more than one case, and Hale tried to pass him a coded message, shortly before the federal judge’s husband and mother were murdered.

That’s kinda deep.

Anytime the House wants to stop running up debt, all they have to do is pass tax rates and spending levels that don’t run up more debt.

Yet somehow, not a single one of them has even proposed such rates or levels.

They’re worried about how much some people would squeal at any proposed tax hike, they’re worried about how much some people will squeal at any proposed spending cut. So they just scream STOP RUNNING UP DEBT!! and propose not raising the ceiling, demanding that the president chose what to not pay so they can blame him for not paying whatever it is.

First, Virginia’s legislature calls for a $50,000 climate change study that omits the words “climate change” and “sea level rise” from the study’s description. Then, North Carolina decides to ignore a study predicting the sea will rise on its coast.

Now, Nebraska’s legislature has asked its state climate scientists to look at climate change … but apparently without accounting for human activity on the climate.

On Thursday we leave for our anniversary trip. We have access to a full kitchen with most all the tools we could want, but no microwave or grill.

I want to do one meal with fancy cooking (as opposed to the grazing method we employ for the rest of them - cheese, cured meats, crackers, dip prepared at home, chili prepared at home and reheated, and fruits and veggies). Pasta of some sort is probably preferable, but not necessarily required if you can convince me it will be tasty enough. Fish is probably less fantastic because it will be cooked on Friday at the earliest.

(Hint: olives and/or mushrooms and/or capers are a favorite. To the extent that they might get added if missing, because fuck it, I’m the cook.)

Funny how today’s conservatives do the same things they accused the Commies in the USSR and China of doing in the 1950s. Ignore the facts, ignore the experts, and stick with the Party’s version of reality.

Soviet science was held back decades because the Party favored Lamarck’s theoiry of acquired characteristics over Darwin’s theory of evolution. Mao’s agricultural policies led to widespread famine.

Reality has a way of smacking people in the face, usually in a bad way.

(Hint: olives and/or mushrooms and/or capers are a favorite. To the extent that they might get added if missing, because fuck it, I’m the cook.)

Go.

How about something simple like pasta with pesto, olives, thinly sliced slivers of salami, maybe some pan sauteed veggies, etc.? If you make it nice & colorful and serve it on pretty plates accompanied by some nice crystal, silverware & candlelight it could count as “fancy”.

Ok, Lizards, I am issuing a food challenge.

She is just finishing (they are downrigging starting tomorrow for the winter) five months on the Meerwald.

Of course, now she is maybe applying to a tall ship based in the Catalinas (to which I am like YES YES YES for lots of reasons) even though she is not necessarily the most keen on another sailing post.

She didn’t bring her good camera for these (like me, she has a Pentax K-5) because out on the boat is not necessarily the best place for it.

BTW since we are on a recipe tips bent currently. Next time your making tuna or chicken salad consider putting sauerkraut in it instead of pickles or relish.

Most Imported German sauerkraut in jars have a light taste, not like the extremely sour tinny tasting examples that some of us grew up with from cans.

It not only adds moisture (needed for chicken salad especially when using left over refrigerated chicken) and texture to your mix along with a small bit of “sour” it also adds a fair amount of volume spreading one can of tuna much farther.

I use sauerkraut on hot dogs, on Reuben sandwiches, on pork chops with baked apples, etc. so I usually have some around anyway.

I realize that to many people this sounds like one of those things that common sense says just would not taste right strictly on the face of it.

Try it once, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Once in a freaking blue moon I actually have to log into YouTube, same thing, it always immediately tells me someone else has logged into my account “from a different location” and insists that I change my password Immediately.

If you ignore it the warning just stays there, at the top of every YouTube video page forever (or at least until your log-in cookie expires). What drives me nuts is that the warning asks “Was this you?” but then gives you no way whatsoever to acknowledge that “yes, it was me now stop effing bothering me about it.” You have to change your password to actually make it go away (or simply log out).

X-Wing: Wedge’s Gamble

Sometime between two and three years after the Battle of Endor, Wedge Antilles and members of his famous starfighter squadron were on a scouting mission on the galactic capital world, Coruscant. They toured the Galactic Museum as part of their task of monitoring the planet’s social conditions (in preparation for New Republic invasion).

Antilles found several stuffed ewok specimens on display with a note that the innocent creatures had been made extinct on their native world through the actions of rebels. Though unwelcome news to members of the squadron which detonated the battle station, this report appears to be objectively true. The museum display provides satisfying corroboration for the realistic fate of the ewoks, but of course it is not relied upon as primary evidence. (The primary facts are those events of Return of the Jedi which point to the disaster.)

The Right has always been out to discredit Obama for doing anything, even things they approved of under other Presidents.

The Left is finally disillusioned with the fact that we elect politicians, not idealists, to posts of political power in our country.

The undercurrent to otherwise well-founded criticisms of NSA or Guantanamo is that there is some presumption that the government is doing this out of sheer meanness and the will to dominate us all.

I do not think that is the case, it is a choice between the lesser of two evils: violating privacy/haebeas corpus vs. apprehending/detaining suspected terrorists.

Of course there is potential for abuse. And we need as bit more transparency and accountability than we currently have, but not the type of indiscriminate leaking as we have seen in recent months.

It was not structured that way last year, as many state primaries used proportional delegate awards. That by definition makes things take somewhat longer, as would the fact that Ted Cruz would not do well in New Hampshire. Losing the first actual primary (the Iowa Caucuses are not a primary) checks any Republican’s momentum.

Highly unlikely. There were three people in the car, which you don’t see in car-bomb attacks.

I’m wondering if it’s a variation of the self-immolations that are nearly impossible to stage on the Square itself. There are security checks at every entrance and police confiscate all liquids — even water bottles. But Tiananmen Square is bordered on all four sides by major traffic arteries, and the entrance to the Forbidden on the north side makes a suitable spot for a “statement.”

But I’m just speculating. Authorities here have made no announcements about causes of the explosion or the identities of the car’s occupants.

Probably had sleep apnea.

There’s a number of different theories as to why he (and some other Colonials) did this, varying from trying to avoid noxious fumes they thought were given off by the stoves of the time to aiding digestion, to simply being more ‘wakeful’ so if they had good ideas in the middle of the night they could leap out and get to work. As far as I know, there’s scant primary evidence to help settle the question.

So the dog illness saga continues….

I suspect the skin problems are mites. Probably demodex. This poor doggie looks like something has taken literal little chunks out of her fur, giving her the appearance of having little white dots all over her(she’s black and tan, a doberman/german shepherd mix-with short hair). Everytime one of the little flaky patches on her skin comes off, about a dozen hairs go with it. So, it’s off to the vet this morning for a skin scraping (ewww) and maybe this time we’ll figure out what the hell is the problem.

In other news, the kid is back at his program for young adults with autism and seems to be ok. Except for the cooking and eating right thing. They have these great kitchens and no one uses them(or apparently cleans them, which I bitched about, it wasn’t just a little dirty, it was nasty) because everyone microwaves stuff. Which I suppose is normal for 19-24 yr old guys. He comes home this weekend, part of which will be spent cooking and freezing entrees to take back. Seriously, the fridge and freezer in that kitchen have blood from meat frozen and dried inside, and items that might need carbon dating to figure out how old they are. I’m surprised no one has got a food born illness, seriously. But The Teenager seems to be happy and he’s making friends, so a little crud in the kitchen is secondary.

Me, I’m just trying to figure out what’s next after raising my kids. Not so simple. Really daunting.

Spain Summons U.S. Ambassador in Spying Scandal

“The scandal, which has strained relations between Washington and some of its most important allies, has recently focused on whether the N.S.A. targeted the cellphone of the German chancellor, Angela Merkel. The Spanish government has so far declined to discuss whether it had evidence that Washington had spied on Spanish government officials. (my emphasis)

“Spying activities aren’t proper among partner countries and allies,” Mariano Rajoy, Spain’s prime minister, said at a news conference last week in Brussels, where he was attending a meeting of European Union leaders. “

19 days? That’s less than half the total number of weekdays, and yet the GOP complains about the President “vacationing”?

But they’ve got plenty to do - they’ve got to come up with a CR/budget and debt ceiling arrangement to replace the temporary deal covering the period through the end of the year. There’s also immigration reform, and enacting potential improving reforms for the ACA.

Guess what the GOP will probably spend their time with? Benghazi, delay/defund/destroy ACA, and blocking any kind of immigration reform. IOW - SS/DD.

I’m basing my stereotypes on 40 year old observation. Sounds like your ‘frat’ is morphing into ‘honor society’.

Not really. It’s been a social fraternity with a restriction on majors they recruit from the get go - founded 1907. The restrictions have loosened a bit since then*, but it is still pretty much engineers and science majors only.

*- When founded it was Civil Engineers only. By the 1930s it was Engineers and Architects. The Sciences got added post-WW2, and I think the last explicit broadening was in the late 70s for IT and Biology.

Heaven forbid anyone should mar one of Ryan’s legislative masterpieces.

He knows the budget is going to be a compromise and he’s being rational about it. Though Paul Ryan’s involvement is a secondary reason for the closed doors: So the left-liberal ‘netroots’ don’t gum things up screaming about how evil Paul Ryan and his budget priorities are.

Note: ‘Netroots’ are left-liberal, not far-left.

But that would mean treating the poors as human.

Maybe if they were “cleaned up” by drones or Israelis it would be worth it.

True that. Btw, it’s my understanding the Rio MPs had very lengthy and precise lists of the suspects they wanted to round up during their massive sweeps. They reportedly bagged most of them, from genuine scumbags to people suspected of loitering while poor. I wonder how much spying went into that, and whether privacy rights and civil liberties were strictly observed. (Actually, having been to Brazil, I don’t wonder at all: they weren’t))

Kabuki. Other countries know the US is spying, but are required to act angry if the US is “caught” doing so. US also has to act like they regret it, look down as they kick the ground and say “Aw shucks.”. Everything returns to status quo where everyone spies on everyone else.

The public that is gnashing their teeth about this are voluntary in accepting the delusion. Any *serious* research on the subject would immediately make clear that countries have spied, are spying, and will continue to spy on each other to collect data useful for military, economic, or political reasons.

And you yell scream and carry on when you catch someone with the expectation they will issue some sort of not-pology. Which you then accept.

It they don’t apologize and issue the diplomatic equivalent of “Fuck You”, then you have to escalate things since they have now disrespected your sovereign country. So you expel some diplomats, recall an ambassador, or walk out of some conference. And the kerfluffle escalates from there.

It’s like a bunch of children on a playground. There are “rules” for what you say, when you back down, etc. and face is very important*. Breaking the rules causes further displays and escalations.

ADL Lists Top 10 Anti-Israel Groups in America in 2013

The Top 10 Anti-Israel Groups, as identified by ADL, are:
◾ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism)
◾American Muslims for Palestine
◾CODEPINK
◾Friends of Sabeel-North America
◾If Americans Knew/Council for the National Interest
◾Jewish Voice for Peace
◾Muslim Public Affairs Council
◾Neturei Karta
◾Students for Justice in Palestine
◾U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation

Full report can be found here: adl.org

CAIR and MAS didn’t make the list this year….

The other two groups that have been removed are the Muslim American Society (MAS) and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), large Muslim-American advocacy organizations that have a long history of anti-Israel activism.
While both groups still post anti-Israel messages and articles to their social media pages and invite speakers who are critical of Israel to attend their events, both organizations have taken a step back from organizing anti-Israel activity and have not been on the frontline of coordinating or participating in anti- Israel protests as they had several years ago.

Not the way the game works.

It also forces other countries’ hands and makes them do counterproductive things. A lot of this spying will be with the other countries’ implicit or explicit consent, and some of this is going to be counterespionage as well. Losing espionage means you lose the verification capability for whether other countries are operating as you expect. If you lose visibility, a nervous leader can start jumping to all the wrong conclusions because of lack of information with disastrous results.

If you want a decrease in world tension, getting rid of spying isn’t the way to do it. However, it’s pretty clear that Greenwald just wants chaos and revenge for personal slights, so it doesn’t matter to him.

The underlying message that both the extreme Left and Right can latch onto is that the Government and the NSA are doing this out of sheer cussedness and a desire to control and dominate us.

They are doing this because that is what they are tasked to do: maintain security. Surveillance is a part of that task.

I admit there is a lot of potential for abuse and the system is lacking in transparency and accountability, but indiscriminate data dumps are not necessarily the way to improve things.

I’m sorry, but I think the delusion is in this case too dangerous to enable. I’m going to skip to the end with this article and its epic knock down of the far-left. It’s about a Salon written by Natasha Lennard:

Quote of the Day: Salon Slams Russell Brand and Proves Why the Far-Left Is a Joke

By Chez Pazienza * October 25,2013

Now, I’m not sure I need to point out the obvious but just in case: Lennard, and the other writers she quotes, have such a problem with cheeky comedian Russell Brand’s admission that he’s a sexual being and can be swayed by someone with good looks that they’re willing to pen lengthy, self-important screeds lamenting that fact and arguing that it costs him his ability to be taken seriously. To paraphrase the great philosopher Dean Vernon Wormer, smug, joyless, and intransigent is no way to go through life. It’s certainly not a way to impact the people who live outside of your little bubble of true believers — the people, by the way, that you need on your side to make a political movement successful.

Maybe to Lennard’s credit, she sticks to her guns and insists that the reason she refused to rally around Julian Assange and Rand Paul was precisely because she feels that while they may be right, in her view, on one or two topics she happens to believe in, they’ve still exhibited sexist behavior or have taken stands that are stridently anti-women. We wrote a lot here about how many people seemed to be willing to give that kind of thing a pass, especially when it came to Rand Paul and his ridiculous drones stand, merely because they valued one particular pet issue instead of looking at the big picture. But actually, that may prove the point even further that each of the various groups that make up the far-left seems to be unable to take anything beyond its individual grievances into consideration. Natasha Lennard won’t back Rand Paul, even though she agrees with his bullshit posturing on drones, because he’s wrong on her pet issue. Guys like David Sirota, meanwhile, will support Rand Paul despite his anti-women positions because drones are his pet issue. Chaos reigns and not a damn thing actually gets accomplished for left-wing politics because nobody can imagine compromising — and if you’re not 100% on board with each group’s political charter or conform completely to its point-of-view, you get long-winded articles written about you, attacking you from your own side, in Salon.

All of this — this is why those on the far-left fail again and again and will continue to.

This is why all they can do is rant online and in the streets; comforted, I suppose, by the knowledge that their idealism remains unsullied and uncompromised; oblivious to the fact that it’s also utterly useless.

This point should also be applied to wingnuts as applicable.

Interesting article. It’s frustrating to see so many people flocking to celebrities spouting generic nonsense. I think part of the problem is many people don’t see the history. Agreed, the right leadership could have avoided a lot of problems but I think it was pretty unlikely they would have chosen productive leaders. Another inherent problem ties in with the ADL’s list of top anti-Israel hate groups l Iinked to earlier. Code Pink, ANSWER, and International Solidarity Movement are very active on the far left but their ability is rapidly waning. Kind of ironic to think that the recession has wounded the ability of anti-capitalist groups. They might see a resurgence with the next Republican president but maybe their time is done.

I can not imagine any of the worthwhile movements getting any traction without popular if not necessarily charismatic leadership. As to the far left, their popularity is cyclical. As is the right when a long term viewpoint is taken.

The primary protein in milk is casein. When the human body digests casein, it produces casomorphins, which have an opiate-like effect on humans. Because cheese is denser than, for example, milk, the casein is more heavily concentrated, meaning that eating cheese produces a larger amount of casomorphins in the body compared to eating other dairy products.

Today’s GOP: Or how that rebranding effort is going:

usatoday.com

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., says he’ll block a vote on President Obama’s nominees until the White House provides more information about the survivors of last year’s deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya.

Graham, a vocal critic of what happened at Benghazi, posted on Twitter that he’ll block “every appointment” from getting a vote in the U.S. Senate.

The first test could come later Monday when the Senate considers the nomination of Richard Griffin to be general counsel of the National Labor Relations Board. Griffin’s nomination has long been opposed by Republicans.

Four Americans, including U.S. ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens, were killed in the attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya. Graham’s threat comes a day after CBS’ 60 Minutes aired a report that included an eyewitness account from a former British soldier.

So, the ACA defund/delay/destroy didn’t work, so they’re back to their greatest mishits - Benghazi boogaloo two. The sequel.

Well, if we’re going to ingest morphine, I suppose cheese is the way to go.

I must say, I eat some form of cheese everyday—just bought some blue cheese today that I use in salads (usually have a large one daily). That, goat cheese, and pepper jack tend to be my favorites.

Ever have a pepper jack, tomato and onion sandwich on whole grain bread grilled in butter? Heavenly. : )

More Reser recalls in TN and MD.

These appear to be mix your own types of prepped broccoli, probably sold in bags in these stores.

I’m gonna go with “what is Triangle” and you’re a nerd.

“In Kentucky, about a third of folks going on Medicaid and getting qualified health care plans are under 35 years old. That’s what’s going to happen around this country. People are going to sign up for this. it will take a while to get it in process, but I guarantee we’ll make it work because it’s good for the American people.”

I used to do quick sandwiches while doing yard work that was provolone or (preferably) smoked gouda with sauerkraut on a roll.

I saw a headline on Yahoo, about a potential ‘Obamacare Death Spiral’, and unable to resist clicking on it, found that it was written by some clown from AEI. He was saying if healthy people don’t sign up, it’ll just be sick people, and it’ll be too expensive.

THAT is where we ALREADY were, but without any incentive for healthy people to sign up, except the possibility of pre-existing conditions.

BTW, if I hear ONE MORE idiot talking about young people being required to buy health insurance ‘they don’t really need’, I’m going to explode. Life insurance, fire and flood insurance, car insurance etc. are all things most people ‘don’t really need’.

I’ve had life insurance for 20 years, and haven’t died, so I didn’t “need” it.

I’ve used my car insurance twice in 35 years of owning cars. My wife hasn’t used hers at all, so we didn’t “need” it.

Our house has not been burgled, burned, or flooded, nor has anything large fallen on, or driven into it, so we didn’t “need” our homeowners insurance.

The same people who say, “You don’t need a gun, until you really, really need it” are trying to argue just the reverse about health insurance, and as a twofer, they will loudly denounce as irresponsible anyone who DOESN’T get health insurance, and then gets badly and expensively sick.

Tell me again why we should be civil to these people?

“Interesting” Assertions

As the Manhattan Institute figured out in a study,

on average, the cheapest plan offered in a given state, under Obamacare, will be 99 percent more expensive for men, and 62 percent more expensive for women, than the cheapest plan offered under the old system. And those disparities are even wider for healthy people.

False comparison:

We have a God-given right to own guns. We have a God-given right to refuse to buy insurance. We have a God-given right to go bankrupt over medical bills.

This cannot be stated enough. When I got my first job 24 years ago, my father would not shut up until I practically signed an affidavit stating my employer was providing health insurance. I was 23 at the time.

The conservative/GOP/Tea Bag shit-for-brains jackasses who are telling young people not to get health insurance? I absolutely guarantee you that they are making sure their kids have coverage five ways to Sunday.

Tell me again why we should be civil to these people?

Preaching to the choir, friend. I am failing to see where civility is helping in this debate.
