re: #68 Michele: Out of the closet, Into the fire

Afternoon Lizards. An update on getting the Egg back on the road. I mentioned this morning that the battery pack was totally depleted (4.5 VDC). Well not even my 72 VDC, 40 amp charger could bring it up to voltage. Hell, I had to shut it off because it was over heating. So I’m now having to charge each battery individually. I also ordered a 100 Amp load tester to check each battery to see if any of them need to be replaced. I just so happen to have 2 of the same type of batteries that I purchased for the ill fated RV project on hand. So if replacement(s) is/are necessary, I at least have them on hand.

Michele:

We have clients in Nashville who go on tour for weeks to months at a time.

To ensure their vehicle batteries aren’t flat when they return from tour, we recommend solar battery maintainers. You plug it into your 12V outlet on your dash, or wire them directly to the battery.
These devices will not charge a dead battery but it will not nor *overcharge* a vehicle battery. It just maintains the proper voltage level in a charged battery and stops providing a charging current when the battery is fully charged.
I have the solar model in my hybrid, and leave it sitting on my dashboard plugged in to the vehicle 12V battery 24/7 for the past 4 years, even while driving.
When i take my hybrid to the dealer for oil changes, the dealer reads the 4+ year battery install date and tests the 12V battery in an effort to sell me a new one.
The dealer test results to date have shown the battery cranking reserve is well above replacement level.
If you have access to an electrical outlet, there are also plug in battery maintainers, one of which I use on my wife’s Touareg, as it’s garaged, and only gets driven, except for trips, once a week.

Election commissioner presents evidence that ‘Trump caught paying people to attend rally’

People were apparently paid to attend Donald Trump’s rally in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sunday, according to Tennessee Democratic election commissioner Chris D. Jackson, although it’s not clear who did the paying.

Jackson, who criticized Hungary’s autocratic leader, Viktor Orbán, for endorsing the ex-president, took to social media over the weekend to draw attention to a Craigslist post appearing to offer payment for attendance at the MAGA event.

“BREAKING: Trump Caught Paying People to Attend Rally,” the official reported. “A Craigslist ad has been found offering payment for people to attend Trump’s rally in Las Vegas today.”

In other doomerish news:

Far-right gains in EU election deal stunning defeats to France’s Macron and Germany’s Scholz

The rise of nationalism will lead to another world war.

I’m thinking by… 2038… oddly enough.

These were the European Parliament elections, not national parliament elections. These are elections for representatives to Brussels, and a lot of Europeans don’t take these elections seriously at all and vote for whatever whackjob protest candidates they can find. This has repercussions for EU law and regulations, of course, but doesn’t necessarily predict national elections.

Trump has been hiring paid actors on Craigslist for years now. People have been ignoring it because they don’t think it’s important, but there are ads for most towns he visits.

I’m just waiting for someone to make it big and say they got their acting start being paid to be a black Trump voter at his rallies.

I am not following where the confusion would be? If it is just showing things to you in your own time zone, it just prevents you from having to do the math. The only real confusion would be if the browser geolocates you wrong and starts tagging things with the wrong time.

That Much-Despised Apple Ad Could Be More Disturbing Than It Looks

I think it is possible he gets this very wrong:

Picture it: A team of experienced, well-paid professionals spent months refining a strategy. Ideas were pitched, culled, refined, mocked up. Eventually, after countless steps, a winner emerged, and somehow it was this. They could have depicted all that gear being cheerfully shrunken and squeezed into one iPad, awaiting creative fun. Instead, they went with just demolishing it all. Did no one point out that people are increasingly wary of tech companies’ impact on the creative professions?

This ad, Crush, was created in-house, inside Apple, not by its normal ad agency. I hypothesize that the reason it was so tone deaf is that they used an Ai to create the ad, hoping they could get a cool ad without needing to have “a team of experienced, well-paid professionals” spending months refining a strategy. No ideas were pitched, none culled, nor refined, nor mocked up. It was all so easy, they thought. The tech bros could make their own cool ads.

The whole point was that they were encroaching on the creative professionals.

And because they did not have pros do any real work, they made the same mistake so many others have made with LLMs - amateurs trusted the output without engaging experts.

Apple actually had an ad released at the same time that was made by a pro ad agency, their normal one. It is actually quite effective and useful.

The all-new iPad Pro | The thinnest Apple product ever | Apple

This might explain why Apple apologized so quickly. Their ‘A-B experiment’ showed what a huge mistake they had made. Their LLM was not ready for prime time.

Sure, all speculation but I do wonder why Apple released 2 ads: one by the pros and one that they did themselves.

Despite clickbait-y headlines regarding the EU Parliamentary elections, the real story is the center has held, which is mostly good news.

Centrist groups have retained a majority in the EU parliament despite high-profile gains by far-right parties in France, Germany and elsewhere, a projection showed Sunday.

The centre-right European People’s Party (EPP) came first with 181 out of 720 seats, followed by its two main partners — the centre-left Socialists and Democrats on 135 and the centrist Renew Europe on 82.

They were tailed by two far-right groupings, the European Conservatives and Reformists with 71 seats, and the smaller Identity and Democracy on 62.

“The truth”? The truth is that the experiments were designed to help address a zoonotic parasitic disease that affects humans where dogs are the natural reservoir (i.e. creatures that parasites grow and breed in) and sand flies are the vectors (i.e. creature that spreads the parasites). The hypothesis being tested (in layman’s terms) was if the sand flies are more attracted to infected dogs than uninfected dogs. And there are fewer variables to consider (age, health, disease, etc) with juvenile lab animals than there are with adults.

The truth is also that the Repubs making the biggest noise about this “scandal” were either silent or made excuses when one of their own proudly boasted about blasting a puppy with a shotgun because she couldn’t control it.

It’s not even that. You’ll note that nowhere in this discussion is any real suggestion that this experiment or others like it should be banned or put under stricter review. It’s just a part of the overall narrative that is “Dr. Fauci is a remorseless monster” that keeps depending upon stitching together a patchwork quilt of whatever scraps they can find. The reality that Dr. Fauci did not propose the experiment, write up the paperwork for review, review said paperwork, or conduct the experiment does not matter, what’s supposed to matter is “the buck stopped with him.”

Again, these are the same people whose response to tens of thousands of civilians being killed in Gaza by Israeli missiles and bombs is “HIT’EM HARDER!”

Ever since the eviction moratoriums were lifted in 2021 because everything was “back to normal,” we’ve not gone past a three month period without some broke-ass guest who’s managed to drag things out past the 90 day “residency” mark telling us to go screw ourselves because they can’t pay and won’t pay. Or begging us not to kick them out because “[my] kids will be on the street” if we go through with the eviction process. In fact, we’re currently in the process of dealing with a woman-beating SOB who’s actually come down here and told management that his lawyer told him that until the eviction process finishes we can’t deny him entry to his room…but please can he have some clean sheets, towels, and toilet paper.

Letters from an American June 9, 2024
heathercoxrichardson.substack.com

Yesterday the Washington Post published an article by Beth Reinhard examining the philosophy and the power of Russell Vought, the hard-right Christian nationalist who is drafting plans for a second Trump term. Vought was the director of the Office of Management and Budget from July 2020 to January 2021 during the Trump administration. In January 2021 he founded the Center for Renewing America, a pro-Trump think tank, and he was a key player in the construction of Project 2025, the plan to gut the nonpartisan federal government and replace it with a dominant president and a team of loyalists who will impose religious rule on the United States.

History and background on what the founders had in mind, and what these jerks have in mind.

That Much-Despised Apple Ad Could Be More Disturbing Than It Looks

I think it is possible he gets this very wrong:

This ad, Crush, was created in-house, inside Apple, not by its normal ad agency. I hypothesize that the reason it was so tone deaf is that they used an Ai to create the ad, hoping they could get a cool ad without needing to have “a team of experienced, well-paid professionals” spending months refining a strategy.

I doubt it had anything to do with an LLM.

The tone-deafness is just typical of the tech-bro climate, a group of people so enamored with their little (but highly paid) world that they are not in touch with the wider culture.

The ad was made by people who know a whole lot about computers but do not know much about psychology and history.

re: #81 Targetpractice

My overall dystopian view of our future is enhanced by stories such as you relate.

As the wealthy continue to accumulate ever increasing share of the land in this country, the rents will be continually pressured upwards, and the poorest will be homeless.

This was the nature of our past (serfs living on the dirt floors in the corners of stables) and I suspect that is to where we are returning.

It may take a couple of centuries but the end result of landlords is, well, Lords.

Unrestricted, wealth accumulation is biased by the powers that be to continually flow into fewer and fewer hands.

With the unraveling at the end of fossil fuels I do think that societies will struggle to make renewables work.

Not that we can’t electrify our lives. We can, and are trying to do that.

I just doubt that the masses on this planet can wait until such is accomplished.

Until then we are walking a tightrope: land barons and serfdom on one side, left-wing anarchy on the other.

I feel that I, tail end of the boomers, have lived during the golden age of America. Vast national riches poured out on untold luxuries that humans have never before experienced.

13 centuries from now I expect people living in what was once the US will be a mix of 40% serfs/indentured slaves, 50% tenant farmers, 9% commercial/clerical/military class, 1% elite land owners.

The Tories continue to run an absolute shitshow of a general election:

Avon DeRussate (@avondeer.bsky.social) 2024-06-10T07:00:05.394Z

So I learned that British political pundits refer to this as a “chicken run,” when powerful party members afraid of losing their seats will run to the nearest “safe” seat and even push out the incumbent in order to avoid the embarrassment of the other side claiming their scalp on election night. In this case, Holden abandoned a run in the new constituency where his old seat was in order to instead run for a “safe” seat over 300 miles away.

anything, anytime that affects or includes a politician is ‘political’ to one degree or another.
it can be related to an election or not
anytime a politician opens their mouth it’s ‘political’
‘political’ doesnt necessarily mean ‘hurt the politician’

‘political’ doesnt mean wrong

Gaza is one of the most densely populated places on Earth.

Regardless of where Hamas (or any) fighters are, an armed force has due care to not target areas known to have civilians. (So-called human shields are civilians.) Overwhelmingly disproportionate targetting of civilian infrastructure is also off-limits.

The same argument could be applied to our own Republicans. Criminal organisations (drug cartels) are causing death and mayhem. The GOP wants to respond with an invasion of Mexico.

I’ve gotta go. Village board meeting is nigh.

Aside from that, though, I am going to leave the topic well enough alone. We’re already crossing into “highly charged” territory here, and the discussion is barely two posts in. I will leave it to people who are more educated on international warfare law and the history of Middle Eastern conflict to debate the finer points of genocide, proportional response, the role of official IDF policy versus spontaneous ground commander decisions, and the like.

A blind woman was kicked out of a Texas church for bringing a service dog with her

A Texas woman recently attempted to attend a church service, only to be kicked out because she brought her service animal with her.

Mari Ramos is blind and goes everywhere with the help of her dog Betty, who, like other service pets, is trained for these very situations.

“I had somebody say to me on Sunday, well I’m not denying you. I’m denying your service animal. Well by extension. you are denying me because Betty and I are a cohesive unit,” Mari said.

“There was just this feeling of being turned away, this feeling of embarrassment, this feeling of being excluded from something,” Mari said.

When reporter Morgan Riddell of news outlet KBTX did a segment about this story, she didn’t name the church “because the organization did not break any laws”… which is true. While the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) allows service animals in all public places, churches are not public and don’t have to play by those rules. The church is within its rights to tell Ramos to get out—just as it could with gay people, trans people, people of color, and everyone else they feel are beneath them.

But then there is the temple I attend where we welcome people with service animals…oh and we do not close the door on anyone who wishes to enter…

I’m not sure what the point was aside from “dead journalist comes to life to report is clickbait”

Any number of things might be true and I’m in no position to evaluate it:

a) He’s not dead, and the previous report was wrong.
b) He’s not dead, and the previous report was false.
c) He’s not dead, and the previous report was propaganda.
d) He is dead, and the story was written up before he died.
e) Both stories are wrong in different ways.

Neither side of this mess wants journalists reporting things which would make them look bad, or the other side look good.

I still don’t see the objective of Hamas on October 7, other than terrorism, crime, and religious justifications for them. I can’t imagine they didn’t know Israel would make some sort of severe response to that.

Like most conflicts, the non-involved civilian populace takes the brunt of the damage.

From several thousand miles away, I don’t get how all the “both-siderists” saying they won’t vote think somehow Mr. Trump would be better on this. He’s said he would send in our own army (though he says a lot of a crap). I suspect the both-siderists weren’t going to vote for Biden or anyone in the first place, and they’re just trying to come up for a justification for being principled centrists.

Aside from what’s going on in Gaza, there are a myriad of things going on here which will be far worse if Mr. Trump is elected again. Most people in my experience don’t actually vote on foreign affairs issues.

The Mythical Promise of Tin Foil Hats
The tin foil hat is a cultural symbol for crazy people, but where does it come from and why do some think it works?
Open your kitchen drawer and take out some tin foil. Twirl it into a cone - maybe even double-wrap it - and put it on your noggin. Do you feel safer yet? The tin foil hat is perhaps the most iconic headgear for conspiracy theorists. Wearing one signals to others that you’re unhinged, have a deep distrust of the government, or that you’re really worried about aliens. To some, it’s an alleged way to block a centralized power’s electromagnetic waves from entering your brain. But does it work?

Origins of the Myth
The tin-foil hat can be traced back to 1927, first spotted by Business Insider roughly a decade ago, in a short story titled “The Tissue-Culture King.” It’s a strange short story written by Julian Huxley, whose brother Alduous was a prolific writer and author of Brave New World. It was Julian, however, who was possibly the first to mention wrapping your cranium in foil.

Regardless of whether you believe they are performing genocide or not, revealing that fact to the world by publishing headlines of hundreds or thousands of civilians killed does not serve their interests.

let’s do some genocide math

In 3 years, the Nazis killed 80% of the Jews in mainland Europe, after having first declared publicly they intended to kill them all. Unprovoked.

in 1994 Rwanda, it took 90 days for the Hutus to kill 70% of the Tutsis, after having first declared publicly they intended to kill them all. Unprovoked.

In Gaza, if the killings continue at the current pace (assuming we accept Hamas’ casualty numbers and pretend all the dead were civilians), it would take 10 years to kill 25% of the Palestinians. After Hamas dramatically, deliberately, provoked this war.

If Israel wanted to do a genocide, they have the means. Math tells me that’s not what this is. There may be, probably are, war crimes, but this is not by any stretch a genocide.

Direct link (I used Firefox, but all of my paranoiaware may allow me to read it whilst others cannot)

A busy train station in Tokyo, a long-forgotten FFA jacket and an incredible coincidence for Grand Forks man (two days ago, Grand Forks Herald, the lede, more at the link)

GRAND FORKS - What are the odds?

That’s what Peter Meberg has been asking himself ever since, on a recent vacation in Japan, he noticed a young man in an Future Farmers of America jacket walking ahead of him at a bustling train station in the Shinjuku area of Tokyo.

Meberg, his wife and a friend were changing trains at the popular, well-known station in a “very lively part of town,” he said. Some 3.7 million people go through that station daily, he said.

“You come out and it’s just massive numbers of people.”

Sally Pyle, who was traveling with Peter and Bernadette Meberg, first spotted the jacket.

“We were walking and … (she) said, ‘Peter, you see that guy in the blue jacket?’ I’m like, what? She goes, ‘Look ahead, it says ‘Park River’ on the jacket.’ So on the back of the FFA jacket is ‘North Dakota’ and ‘Park River.’

“So, I don’t why, I didn’t even think, I just took off and ran after the guy through this crowd,” Meberg said. “And I don’t know if I grabbed him or touched him on the shoulder, and he turned around and I saw my brother’s name on the front of the FFA jacket. I’m like, no, this can’t be.”

The jacket front is embroidered with “Eric Meberg, Vice President, 1975-76,” denoting the years he served as an officer with the FFA chapter in Park River. Eric “Ike” Meberg, who was a couple of years older than Peter Meberg, died in February 2020.

in 1994 Rwanda, it took 90 days for the Hutus to kill 70% of the Tutsis, after having first declared publicly they intended to kill them all. Unprovoked.

In Gaza, if the killings continue at the same pace (assuming we accept Hamas’ casualty numbers and pretend all the dead were civilians), it would take 10 years to kill 25% of the Palestinians. After Hamas dramatically, deliberately, provoked this war.

If Israel wanted to do a genocide, they have the means. Math tells me that’s not what this is. There may be, probably are, war crimes, but this is not by any stretch a genocide.

This argument is called “the fallacy of relative privation” or, “other people had it worse, so this is not that.”

Genocide is not defined by the number or percentage of people killed (and doesn’t just include killing).

Article II

In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

Killing members of the group;
Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

Genocide (United Nations, more at the link)

By that definition, separation of children at the Mexican border from their parents and forcibly relocating them to other people is the act of genocide under international and US law. A few hundred children “lost in the system” doesn’t matter, and our own government under Donald Trump announced it publicly before we did it (a public announcement is not required to complete the elements of the crime).

The problem is similar to the word “theory” (a scientific framework which explains all facts and leaves none out, or a wild-ass guess).

I’m not an international jurist, so I can’t determine whether Hamas officials, Israeli officials, or both are guilty of the crime. I tend to stay away from that word in describing this conflict because of that.

You mention Rwanda: Former President Bill Clinton says one of the great failures of his presidency was the failure to intervene when we had the ability to do so. (All nations are mandated as signatories of the treaty to do all in their power to prevent genocide.)

Trump to address group calling abortion ‘child sacrifice’

Donald Trump is slated to deliver an address Monday to a far-right Christian organization that says abortion must be “eradicated entirely,” calls it “child sacrifice” and “the greatest atrocity facing our generation today.”

“Trump is listed among 15 speakers at the free luncheon sponsored by the Danbury Institute. The luncheon will be held at the Indiana Roof Ballroom, which can seat up to 1,500 people. It is not clear who is footing the bill for the free luncheon,” Baptist News Global reports. “Now a convicted felon facing dozens of other criminal charges in other courts, Trump remains popular with Southern Baptists, who typically fall in the category of white evangelicals who are known to be Trump’s core supporters.”

The Danbury Institute believes all abortion should be illegal including in cases of rape and incest, The Washington Post reports. The paper adds, “A Trump spokeswoman said Trump’s decision reflects his commitment to speak to groups with ‘diverse opinions.’”

Trump has offered several different positions on abortion including stating, “there has to be some form of punishment” for any woman who has an abortion, saying “we have to ban it,” and repeatedly bragging he personally ended Roe v. Wade by appointing three far-right justices to the Supreme Court.

The element of “intent” must be included to constitute the crime, along with one of the other elements. Destruction of an entire group because of political difference is not considered genocide. Systematic destruction of cultural artefacts nor the intent to disperse a group also do not count as genocide. Genocide can also occur when a nation is not at war.

Intent is very difficult to prove, which is why many slaughters which to the person on the street seem like genocide under international law can’t be proved.

Somewhat of a click-baity title at Southern Living, June 7, 2024

It Always Comes Back To Plains, Jimmy Carter’s Grandson Says In Update On President In Final Days

As Jimmy Carter nears his 16th month in hospice care at his home in Plains, Georgia, his grandson, Jason Carter, says there’s “really been no change” in the former president’s condition.

Jason, 48, the oldest of Jimmy and Rosalynn’s 22 grandchildren, told Southern Living Wednesday that the 99 year old is simply “experiencing the world as best he can as he continues through this process” without his wife of 77 years by his side.

“After 77 years of marriage… I just think none of us really understand what it’s like for him right now,” Jason says. “We have to embrace that fact, that there’s things about the spirit that you just can’t understand.”

At this point, Jimmy isn’t awake every day. Jason says his aunt and uncles visit frequently, though they never know what kind of day their father is going to have.

A few weeks ago, Jason made the three-and-a-half hour drive from Atlanta to Plains for a visit with his grandfather. He says they watched the Braves game, talked about The Carter Center, and the family. He also asked the living legend how he’s doing.

I really appreciated the inclusion of Paul Weyrich and Terry Dolan in the article. They are two of the people most responsible for the mess America is in but they are almost forgotten today. I’m not exactly a fan of the ‘important Men’ (and it’s usually men) theory of history but the effect these two had is hard to overstate.

Retro game enthusiast here. Didn’t have time to watch the whole video but I get the gist of it. It’s been well known for years that the big N hates emulation and is insanely protective of their copyrights (even going so far as to kill several really cool, not for profit fan games).

The reality is there are still tons of copies of Nintendo ROMs in the wild and the company would never possibly be able to kill them all. I can go on Amazon right now and choose from dozens of consoles loaded with classic Nintendo games.

It’s also not complicated to extract ROM data from cartridges for a 40 year old console (NES game file sizes do not exceed 1 MB I don’t think).

Emulation has been around for decades now. It’s not going anywhere.

A new CBS News/YouGov poll finds 80% of Republicans believe that the criminal charges brought by the Manhattan district attorney were because of “directions that came from the Biden administration,” rather than merely by “prosecutors in New York.”

A clear majority of Americans, 57%, don’t believe this. But the idea has taken hold in Trump’s base.

how many of that 80% actually ‘believe’ it vs just know how to answer a poll to their benefit?

it’s easy to say you believe anything when there’s nothing riding on it. no risk to you, you dont have to back it up or explain it or how it works.

then again, maybe they do ‘believe’ —- where belief is faith without proof. totally subjective, no standard of evidence. they believe ‘in’ a conspiracy the way they believe ‘in’ religion. as it’s fed to them, without questioning.

they cannot believe “that”. belief ‘that’ means an assertion of an objective truth. and it’s one they are unable to explain, let alone substantiate

“Leadership doesn’t trust her, rank-and-file members think she’s a joke, she’ll never be able to be a chair of a committee because she’s not going to be able to fundraise in D.C.,” a former senior staffer told Slate. “She’s done.”

really enjoying season 2 of interview with the vampire. very well written. as has been observed, television now does all the stuff movies used to do before they became mostly mindless drivel.

Television, if you’re not trapped by the big broadcast channel rules can give you a lot more room to do story telling in a way that movies just can’t. The analogy I use a lot is that television is novels and movies are short stories. Ten 45-60 minute episodes just gives much more space than 90 minutes.

Beyond that, consolidation of movie studios created a situation where all of their products had to be blockbusters that could sell worldwide. Television, for the most part, doesn’t need to sell worldwide - although the amount of foreign shows popping up on American streaming services suggests that may be changing.

“Begun in the London subway on the way to a Trafalgar Square peace march, this song is a reflection of my preoccupation with fascism and what makes it tick, particularly in some quarters here in America.

The traditional German cop-out is all too easy to spot. With the soldiers it was obedience to orders; with the civilians it was variations on a theme of ‘I was never a Nazi’ and ‘We had no idea of what was going on.’

In Mississippi we have families who ‘know nothing’ of lynchings, beatings and murders. In any case, there is ‘nothing they can do to stop it.’ Even our establishment press has published pictures of South Vietnamese troops ‘interrogating’ a captured Viet Cong with the help of the water torture, beating them and dispatching them with .45’s.

Tell me you support the government’s policy if you like, but don’t try to tell me you didn’t know what was going on.”

We didn’t know at all
We didn’t see a thing
You can’t hold us to blame
What could we do?
It was a terrible shame
But we can’t bear the blame
Oh no not us
We didn’t know.

They didn’t just delay the Trump immunity ruling until the last possible second - they extended the deadline in order to ensure maximum fuckery. I swear, if they declare that the President is a King as long as he is a Republican, heads are going to roll.

“…Justice Samuel Alito spoke candidly about the ideological battle between the left and the right — discussing the difficulty of living “peacefully” with ideological opponents in the face of “fundamental” differences that “can’t be compromised.”

It’s too bad he didn’t pay attention to what happened in 1861-65.

“Justice Samuel Alito spoke candidly about the ideological battle between the left and the right — discussing the difficulty of living ‘peacefully’ with ideological opponents in the face of ‘fundamental’ differences that ‘can’t be compromised,’” Rolling Stone reports.

“He endorsed what his interlocutor described as a necessary fight to‘“return our country to a place of godliness.’ And Alito offered a blunt assessment of how America’s polarization will ultimately be resolved: ‘One side or the other is going to win.’”

“Alito made these remarks in conversation at the Supreme Court Historical Society’s annual dinner on June 3, a function that is known to right-wing activists as an opportunity to buttonhole Supreme Court justices. His comments were recorded by Lauren Windsor, a liberal documentary filmmaker. Windsor attended the dinner as a dues-paying member of the society under her real name, along with a colleague. She asked questions of the justice as though she were a religious conservative.”

godliness, not the constitution

roberts’ legacy as chief justice is toast.

ps: ‘One side or the other is going to win.’ is some brilliant logic.

As the most excellent and astute Mike Dunford pointed out on Bluesky, it’s not the Roberts Court. It hasn’t been for some time now. This era in history will be known as the Alito Court, and it will be infamous in ways that put even Roger B. Taney to shame. But hey, as long as Alito’s merciless god wins in the end, right?

re: #297 Charles Johnson

I’m sure many here have thought I was insane for my calls to PACK THIS FUCKING SCOTUS TO THE RAFTERS once Joe Biden wins and Democrats win enough seats to do it.

With this newest Alito secret recording we now have clear proof that this is the only peaceful and Constitutional means to lock out the cult known as the Federalist Society from taking absolute control if Convicted Felon Trump wins. Because Trump will pack the Court on his own even as Conservatives have a current majority. He will pack it with 40-somethings to ensure decades of further destruction of the Constitution, or to simply do away with it altogether.
