Q: Could you explain the significance of your personal trademark, which is the letter Q with an arrow through it pointing to the right?

Theodore Sturgeon: It means “Ask the next question.” Ask the next question, and the one that follows that, and the one that follows that. It’s the symbol of everything humanity has ever created, and is the reason it has been created. This guy is sitting in a cave and he says, “Why can’t man fly?” Well, that’s the question. The answer may not help him, but the question now has been asked.

The next question is what? How? And so all through the ages, people have been trying to find out the answer to that question. We’ve found the answer, and we do fly. This is true of every accomplishment, whether it’s technology or literature, poetry, political systems or anything else. That is it. Ask the next question. And the one after that.

Theodore Sturgeon, interviewed by David Duncan

$75 million for smoking cessation?

From Jake Tapper's blog:

In the name of transparency, here are the questions I asked at today's White House briefing.

TAPPER: Robert, on the stimulus package, the president yesterday told a closed-door meeting of House Republicans that there was spending in the bill that he didn't like. And, obviously, he took action calling Congressman Waxman to remove the part having to do with the birth control. Now, there is a $335 million provision about education for sexually transmitted diseases. There still is in the bill $50 million funding for the National Endowment for the Arts. And that's the House, and I understand your emphasis is in the Senate, but in the Senate there are earmarked projects as well: $70 million for a supercomputer for NOAA, $75 million for education for smoking cessation. President Obama can tell these Democratic senators and members of the House, "Take this stuff out of the bill." He obviously did so with Congressman Waxman. Why doesn't he do it for all these earmarks?

CIA Station Chief in Algeria Accused of Rapes

The CIA's station chief at its sensitive post in Algeria is under investigation by the U.S. Justice Department for allegedly raping at least two Muslim women who claim he laced their drinks with a knock-out drug, U.S. law enforcement sources tell ABC News.

Officials say the 41-year old CIA officer, a convert to Islam, was ordered home by the U.S. Ambassador, David Pearce, in October after the women came forward with their rape allegations in September.

My 2 cents. Barry and the Dem's will use this incident as an excuse to neuter and cull the CIA, no matter what the investigation uncovers.

He presses Gibbs:

GIBBS: But, again, let's focus on the larger picture. Let's focus on the fact that we have $275 billion in tax cuts to put money directly into the pockets of hard-working Americans that will spend that money and get our economy moving again. Let's focus on the fact that there's $550 billion in spending that will put people back to work. But as we get focused on this number and that number, and 0.02 percent, and all this kind of stuff, understand what we've seen in just the last 48 hours: 70,000 people, since Monday, have gotten pink slips from the companies that they work for, right? The unemployment figures that came out just yesterday from the Bureau of Labor Statistics found every state in the countries -- every state in the country saw job loss, every state in the country. The layoffs continue today with Boeing announcing an additional 10,000 jobs that will be shed over the course of the year.

TAPPER: But that's precisely my point. Wouldn't it better to take that $75 million, instead of sending it to a smoking cessation program, to send it to these people that are out of work?
41 jpkoch  Wed, Jan 28, 2009 12:53:14pm

Either way, any offense should be punished much harsher when done by a representative of the US government. A spy or diplomat or soldier bringing disgrace on our country by acting so dishonorably should be tried for treason (and I'd say that no matter their religion!).

Wow. More Jake Tapper:

Also Interior Secretary Ken Salazar joined us at the top of the briefing. Here's what I asked him.

TAPPER: Mr. Secretary, during the transition, the co-chair of the transition for Mr. -- President Obama, John Podesta, said that the president would be overturning some of the executives orders and presidential orders President Bush had put in place about oil and gas exploration on federal lands. We have not seen any executive orders or presidential orders overturning them. And I'm wondering if they're pending and if you think it's wise to limit where the United States is able to explore for energy during a time of energy crisis where we're getting all our oil from abroad.

SALAZAR: The answer to that question is that there are a number of different regulations and actions that were taken by the Bush administration, some of them in the midnight hour as their term expired here, and we have all of those on the table, and we're taking a look at them. There are some which are bad and which need a new direction. There are probably some which will be kept in place. And so we are now in the process -- having now been in the Department of Interior's position, really, for only about a week -- taking a look at all of these regulations. On the more fundamental issue, which I think you're addressing, which is the approach to oil and gas development, it has to be done in the context of a comprehensive energy plan, and it also has to be done with the right kind of balance. There are places where it is appropriate to explore and to develop oil and gas resources, and there are places that are not appropriate. And so that's part of what we'll move forward with in the agenda of the Department of Interior.

Buzz on the street. It was Sun or Ben. Either way, it will suit Ben's mission. Did you read my essay on Locke last season and my follow up after the season opener?

Hypothesis of Formative Causation (Morphic Resonance)

By Scott Jeffrey

The Theory in a Nutshell

In the 1920s, an idea developed in contradiction to the mechanistic approach to biological development called morphogenesis. In this concept, all organisms have morphogenetic (form-shaping) fields surrounding and vibrating through them. For example, the tiny acorn contains the field of an entire oak tree, the field being responsible for organizing its structure and development. Also, if you cut a plant into many pieces, each piece can be repotted and grown into its own plant—from a tiny fragment, you can get a whole. (Sound familiar? See the Holographic Paradigm.) Cut a salamanders tail off, and it grows back as if the structure of the tail is encoded in the field of the salamander.

163 So?  Wed, Jan 28, 2009 1:15:00pm

Theoretical biologist Rupert Sheldrake used the concept of morphogenesis to develop an exciting alternative model to explain the habits of nature. According to Sheldrake’s Hypothesis of Formative Causation, each species has its own field, and within each organism is a composite of many fields. Within the human body, for example, there’s a field for the entire body, plus fields for each limb, muscle, organ, cell, etc., all the way down to the sub-cellular and molecular level. Each of these fields contains their own “memory,” derived from past, similar forms. For example, in a ten-year experiment started at Harvard University, rats were trained to escape from a water maze. Each new generation of rats learned to escape quicker. After ten years, the latest generation of rats could escape ten times faster than the original rats. Interestingly, rats of the same lineage in other areas of the world also escaped ten times faster, a phenomenon which cannot be explained by any localized instruments (unless the rats figured out how to communicate via email or instant messenger and we just haven’t found out :-).

Similarly, the stomach lining’s field is patterned after the forms of previous stomach linings, like the oak tree’s field is patterned by previous oak trees. Through the fields, by a process Sheldrake calls “Morphic Resonance,” similar fields are connected and in resonance with each other.

“Morphic Fields” can be applied to both form and behavior, including areas like beliefs, cultures, traditions, etc. In this context, Morphic Fields can be used to explain a kind of “collective memory” or patterned behavior exhibited in groups of animals, like flocks of birds and schools of fish, or various cultures sharing similar characteristics in different parts of the world.
Sheldrake’s concept of collective memory parallels Carl Jung’s postulation of a Collective Unconscious.

Excellent book. In my estimation, the most important that the late Dr. Crichton ever wrote.

I am enjoying it greatly. His research to lay the groundwork for the fictional story is excellent.

/Mrs. Hawk read it first, and the only hint she gave me about the story was, "What did Martin Sheen ever do to Michael Crichton?"

185 So?  Wed, Jan 28, 2009 1:17:46pm

The late physicist David Bohm posited a wonderful theory of the universe’s holographic nature. A hologram represents both a visible and an invisible image created by the interference patterns of a split beam of laser light (light of a single wavelength). Bohm called the visible “unfolded” reality (the one we can visually see, like the three-dimensional metallic image on a credit card) the explicate order and the invisible “enfolded” domain the implicate order. Although this “folded” domain is beyond measurement and conscious observation, the implicate order is more than just an abstract concept. The implicate order is an unobservable realm beyond the linear, space-time experience, similar to the concept of “phase space” discussed in Chaos Theory.

That's because the information necessary to create the tail de novo IS encoded in every cell of the salamander's body. . .its called "DNA", and you don't have to invoke magical energy fields to get there.

This week we have a two-fer.

Stoopid Criminal of the Week
&
Stoopid Wrestler of the Week

The awards go to Jeff "Snowball" Monson.

The mixed martial arts fighter accused of spray-painting an anarchist symbol on the Capitol has pleaded not guilty in Olympia to malicious mischief.

KING-TV reports a Thurston County Superior Court judge ordered Jeff Monson to turn over his passport Tuesday while he awaits trial.

Prosecutors say the 37-year-old Olympia man spray-painted symbols and anti-war slogans on the Capitol last November. It cost $19,000 to clean off.

Monson, who fights under the nickname The Snowman, was charged after a picture of him and the graffiti was published in ESPN The Magazine.

He later told The Olympian it was a protest against the Iraq war and economic inequality.

re: #163 So?

I think the proper conclusion here is that the attention span of Harvard graduate students decreased linearly over the course of the ten year experiment.

Or maybe the maze floors just got slipperier after ten years of rats running over them!

Why doesn't he do it for all these earmarks?

this is our hard earned money. going down the drain.
we earn it. they take it.
using it to buy votes and spread the wealth around.
tax payers will only put up w/ so much.
then the system implodes because pols. and dead beats don't produce anything.

But even assuming your second bit about monkeys is true, it means zero.

The fact that animal "A" in place "A" learns something and animal "B" in place "B" learns the same thing DOES NOT prove the existence of any kind of magical "field".

By analogy, if I learn how to program my VCR and Bob from Ottawa learns how to program HIS VCR, why do you need to invoke some "field effect" to explain this? Its ridiculous.

If there really WERE some sort of extra-dimensional awareness linking all animals of a species, then EVERYONE would know how to program VCRs!

I wonder if there is any money for them in the stimulus bill? I mean, if you are doing a bad job at running your business, then you are automatically qualified to receive stimulus money. Hell, they are trying to give the auto industry a boost by buying a boat load of cars. That's a good idea, it will prevent the car companies and the unions from having to examine the way they are doing business and maybe fix something.

That was close.

re: #257 looking closely

Bullshit. I don't even believe the premise of this piece (eg that EVERY rat on the planet simultaneously improved in maze-running simultaneously). Its garbage.

OK. Quick example then I have to run. Remember David Bannister the runner.
Up until 1940 or whatever year it was, nobody and I mean nobody was able to break the 4 minute mile. This went on on hundreds of years. Then one day, Bannister ran and broke the 4 minute mile. A new M-field was then created and soon thereafter many runners were breaking the 4 minute mile. It was no longer the huge barrier it had been. And don't tell me they started doing weights...

It was done to make the original book's point that the USA had expanded to a world government -- except that Heinlein's protagonist was not Argentinian, he was Filipino. The filmmakers switched it to Argentina so that they could cast white kids in the main roles.

IIRC, Rico and his family lived in BA in the book. It was just where they lived. And he was Filipino. Spoke Tagalog as I recall.

No,
Its, when runners run out of "M fields".

By the way, I know as a fact that better nutrition, superior training methods (including altitude training), and performance enhancing drugs (including erythropoeitin, anabolic steroids, etc), have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING whatsoever do with ever improved performance in human athletic events.

Its all "M fields".

Oh, help! As soon as I hit "post this comment," I knew I should have written "terrific production."

When we moved our theatre (Morrison Theatre Company) from Morrison Colorado, to Golden, and reopend as Miners Alley Playhouse, our first production was "The Elephant Man" which requires a topless scene, although the actress has her back to the audience, and is holding open her blouse.

We had to have the actress naked underneath the blouse, since our seating is on three sides, and anyone sitting to far around the edge on the left or right would have to really see a naked top.

When we did my adaptation of "1984," my script requires Winston and Julia to be totally naked in the last scene in act one, when they are arrested.

Nope, Golden was not ready for that much nudity. The director had them in their underwear. we argued about it, he won, although the actors WERE casted with knowledge that they might have to do the scene naked.

I was merely asking a question I have ben curious about for a long time and this seemed a good point to bring it up. At what point can records no longer be broken?

The reference to the Bannister was a deliberate non-answer.

The question is a good one.

It comes down to, what are the limits of human performance?

There is a theoretical maximum effort that a human being can put out, based on muscle mass, aerobic capacity, and so forth. When that potential maximum is reached, you've hit the human limit.

I believe that if you look at world records in running, newer records are asymptotically getting closer. In other words it might be possible to project a theoretical maximum performance.

Of course the limits MIGHT be changable using performance enhancing drugs, or other enhancement technology, but that's sort of a separate question.

In a similar way, you might be able to enhance performance by selective breeding of human beings (like racehorses, for example), but for obvious reasons, this is considered utterly taboo, and possibly even evil.

Evolutionary pressures could achieve the same thing (eg if, for example, fast runners were rewarded genetically with increased offspring survival), but this would take a long time, and I don't realistically see those sorts of pressures being applied.

Do you recall that moment of Hope and ChangeTM when Barack Obama barred lobbyists from the federal government by executive order? By golly, Obama would clean up government and keep lobbyists out of policy-making positions, or else … he wouldn’t. For the second time in the eight days since signing the order, the Obama administration has plucked a lobbyist and put him in charge of the policy on which he’d lobbied:

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner picked a former Goldman Sachs lobbyist as a top aide Tuesday, the same day he announced rules aimed at reducing the role of lobbyists in agency decisions.

Mark Patterson will serve as Geithner’s chief of staff at Treasury, which oversees the government’s $700 billion financial bailout program. Goldman Sachs received $10 billion of that money.

The question isn't whether or not Obama doesn't live up to his political promises. . .empirically the answer is clearly not. . .the question is why people still believe that he will.

US seeks 'bold' UN action over Zimbabwe
Published: 01.28.09, 23:45 / Israel News
The United States wants the United Nations to take strong action to push Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe to reach a power-sharing deal with the opposition, US officials said on Wednesday.

A State Department official said the Obama administration was pushing Zimbabwe's neighbors to use their influence over Mugabe but was also exploring UN Security Council action to help ease the economic and humanitarian crisis in Zimbabwe. (Reuters)

Excuse me but didn't Obama say the USA wasn't going to "Dictate" to others anymore?

Not to get morally relativistic, but I don't think cannibalism is "evil" per se.

It depends on the circumstances.

Murder, obviously, is evil.

But, if you're already dead, and I'm otherwise likely to starve to death in some godforsaken place without food. . .well. . .I'd argue that the "evil" thing is to not do what I need to do to survive, so my kids can have a father, etc.

EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, speaking to reporters in Jerusalem on Wednesday, used new language to describe the conditions under which the bloc would be prepared to work with a new coalition, should Hamas and Fatah manage to agree to one. (Reuters)

First Qassam since end of Gaza op hits Negev

By Amos Harel, Anshel Pfeffer and Yuval Azoulay, Haaretz Correspondents, Haaretz Service and Agencies

Tags: Israel News, Hamas, IDF, Gaza

A Qassam rocket fired from the Gaza Strip struck the Eshkol region in the western Negev on Wednesday, in the first Gaza rocket attack to hit Israel since a shaky cease-fire ended Israel's three-week offensive in the coastal enclave

Isn't George Mitchell in Israel?

But it is NOT the first rocket since the IDF pulled out.

I guess it all depends on when the apologists date the "shaky" (cough: BROKEN: cough) ceasefire.

I'm sure Obama will arrange that ASAP.

Your post reminds me of my past.
I got out of the Navy and was confused to learn that I was apparently a baby killer.
Struggled through Gerald Ford, and then Jimmuh got elected.
It seemed like 4 years of apologies and givebacks (Panama Canal, etc)
The Iran hostage thing I just didn't get at all.
I figured the embassy would be toast, but we couldn't let it stand.

Then Reagan, and I began to regain some self-respect.

The difference between then and now is called the Internet.
Guys like that, nowdays, can easily find somebody to turn to, even if it's not face-to-face.

That means if Obama does apologize (ala Carter), the "silent majority" won't be quite as silent.

The two universal taboo are incest (immediate family, anyway) and cannibalism (killing people just to eat them).

Some societies ritualistically eat their deceased defeated foes or elders in order to ingest the admired qualities, but that's not the same thing as intentionally slaughtering human beings for their meat.

The reference to the Bannister was a deliberate non-answer.

The question is a good one.

It comes down to, what are the limits of human performance?

(snip)

Evolutionary pressures could achieve the same thing (eg if, for example, fast runners were rewarded genetically with increased offspring survival), but this would take a long time, and I don't realistically see those sorts of pressures being applied.

I got curious when observing soldiers running. There was a dramatic difference in times of running mileage between 1972 and when I retired in 93. I routinely saw soldiers running 5 minute miles. And running under 11 minute two miles.

Even I as a smoker was running 13 minute two miles and could do marathons. It isn't unusual now days.

Oh good lord. The eternal excuse of the credulous conspiracy theorist. Time aplenty to post rubbish, but no time to back it up.

You can't find the links, because they don't exist. This goes in the garbage can right alongside intelligent design.

Good afternoon, Lizards.

The Hundredth Monkey meme' has been a long-standing fraud in the humanities, appropriated whenever anyone wanted to urge "collective" responses to anything which ticked them off. Here's a link to a synopsis of its history;

The Hundredth Monkey

Or if you prefer, a similarly-devastating debunking of it can be found in the article "The Hundredth Monkey; Debunking The Spud-Dunking Monkey" by Ron Amundsen (Prof. Philosophy, Univ- HI), and "Of Myths & Monkeys; A Critical Look At Critical Mass" by Maureen O'Hara (Not the actress, a clinical psychologist) in the book The Fringes of Reason; A Whole Earth Catalog, edited by Ted Schultz (New York; Harmony Books, 1989, ISBN 0-517-57165-X).

In between the two in that book is a "response" by Lyall Watson, the supposed "scientist" who first postulated the meme' based on observations of the sweet-potato washing behavior of macaque monkeys on Koshima Island in the Japan chain, as described in his book Lifetide. IMHO, his "rebuttal" is New Age BS at its most erudite; that does not make it anything except BS.

This has been shown up as false repeatedly over the last three decades. But as Drax said to 007 in Moonraker, it "returns with the inevitability of an unloved season."

cheers

The two universal taboo are incest (immediate family, anyway) and cannibalism (killing people just to eat them).

Some societies ritualistically eat their deceased defeated foes or elders in order to ingest the admired qualities, but that's not the same thing as intentionally slaughtering human beings for their meat.

Fijians used to eat their captives piece by piece, so that the captive's suffering was maximized. They'd often taunt the captive by offering him a piece of his own flesh.

On other South Pacific islands, ritual eating of the brains of deceased relatives (a sign of respect) led to the propagation of kuru, now called Crutzfeld-Jakob's Disease, the human equivalent of mad cow.

You should have ben at the GI Joe convention in New Orleans in 2006.

We shared a hotel with ICYPAAS (Int'l Conf. of Young People in Alcoholic's Anonymous). Saturday night is ALWAYS a costume-friendly event. In the elevator with us was a fairly serious-looking guy with a chest of fruit salad, as well as some guys in less-serious dress. In steps a couple of ICYPAAS; one made a crack about baby killers...turns out Mr. Serious was an Army Sgt with 20+ years. He made the politest offer to kill the kid in the elevator, the lobby, or the street. His choice.

I'd offer to hold the man's coat and testify about how the youngster started it.

New State Department spokesman does not rule-out apologizing to Iran for past policies:

QUESTION: Secretary Clinton said yesterday that Iran has an opportunity to open dialogue with the U.S. And today President Ahmadinejad said that – he demanded that President Obama apologize for past U.S. crime before opening such a dialogue. What is your reaction?

MR. WOOD: Well, again, haven’t seen his comments, but I think it’s clear from what the Secretary said yesterday and what the President has said that we obviously are reviewing our policy toward Iran. We are certainly interested in having a dialogue with Iran. But with regard to those remarks from President Ahmadinejad, haven’t seen them. But I think we’ve been pretty clear, and the Secretary certainly was yesterday, in terms of how we plan to at least proceed with regard to dealing with Iran.

QUESTION: Do you think that would fit in well with the President’s comments, I think on Inauguration Day, that the U.S. would take – would be – would act with more humility worldwide?

MR. WOOD: That’s what the President said. He was very clear that this Administration is going to make diplomacy and dialogue the center. And I just don’t have anything more on –

QUESTION: But what the --

MR. WOOD: (Inaudible.)

QUESTION: But what President Ahmadinejad was saying was it’s nice to say that you want a dialogue with Iran, but not only, like – you know, he didn’t – obviously didn’t talk about his own policies, but he said that, you know, it can’t just be the tone, U.S. policy towards Iran had to change.

MR. WOOD: Well, I think what we want to see is improved behavior on the part of Iran internationally. We’re certainly interested in having a dialogue with the Iranian people. Americans are – have a lot of respect for Iran, its culture, and its people. But there are certain things that Iran knows it needs to do if it wants to get back into the good graces of the international community, particularly with regard to its nuclear program, in terms of its activities in supporting terror in the Middle East region. So Iran needs to take a number of steps before the international community is going to welcome it back into its good graces.

[Link: www.state.gov...]

The rest of the Iran questions have to do with policy but at no point does Robert Wood rule-out apologizing to Iran.

Good point. Many people don't realize that while it takes many years to develop and hone a miltary machine like we have, it can be dulled almost overnight.

Case in point: In 1945 we had arguably the most powerful and well trained miltary force in the world. 5 years later, in 1950, that same miltary suffered the debacle of Task Force Smith in Korea. Smith was the task force out of Japan that responded to the initial North Korean attack.
We recovered from that of course, but the point is that it takes but a little neglect to run down your military.

You robbed the cradle?

It's a good choice.

Recall the joke:

A middle-aged accounting partner leaves his wife and runs off with his 18 year-old secretary. He writes her a goodbye letter, glaoting about his new sex life.

The abandoned wife writes back to him, wishing him all luck, and to inform him that she has shacked up with the 18 year-old pool boy.

She reminds him in the letter that 18 goes into 54 way more times than 54 can go into 18.

If you went to your neighbor's house and took something that didn't belong to you and gave it to someone else, it's called theft.

What's the difference between that, compulsory taxation by government and distribution?

In the car just now, on the way home from Gan, Harry started chanting ***“baruch atah adonai eloheinu melech haolam, borei pree...” and stopped. I asked him what came next, and he said with a grin, “Harry!”

So I ate him.

Ya gotta love it, we're moving right along - House hurries to pass economic stimulus bill the 24' poop submarine sandwich

Moving with remarkable speed, the Democratic-controlled House lined up eagerly Wednesday to approve $819 billion in spending increases and tax cuts at the heart of President Barack Obama's economic recovery program. Republicans fought the bill as wasteful. "We don't have a moment to spare," Obama declared at the White House as Democrats hastened to do his bidding.

Well, Young'un, would you believe that NY Grampa was an SP4, in the Army, when we married? He was literally drafted the day after he graduated from CCNY....our oldest son is a military brat.

Oh, the hardship! ;) He was stationed at the now-defunct Boston Army Base, and since I am from Boston, we lived in an apartment, as the base had no housing, and thus were near my parents zt"l! We met in Brooklyn, when I was a nursing student there. We did move back to NY when daughter was born, and have lived here since. I was joking on a thread last week re not being able to talk with a Bahstahn accent any more no matter how hard I tried. No joke..it's true! And I have not driven a car since I was in my early 20's, as driving anywhere in the Greater Boston area is suicidal, so help me! Everything and anything that you may have heard re Boston drivers is true.

71? Ha! I am still 12 years old!

re: #749 Pietr

Are we related? ;) NY Grampa was at Devens also, for 3 weeks.

Re drivers? Yes, NJ is awful...oldest son and his family live there. I hate it. And the NJTP? Feh! One of my son's mother in law says she hides under the dashboard as soon as the sign on the GWB says NJ!

NY drivers aren't that bad in our area (near the CT border) aren't all that bad, or maybe I am just used to them.

Ahh, London! The first time I was there, staying with friends, as daughter spent her junior year there, and ventured from the 'burbs into the West End on my own? I nearly was hit by a bus, as I looked the wrong way before crossing the road! A few Londoners grabbed me, and pulled me back! Now I can't go anymore...disabled, but it was actually funny..each time I went, when I came back (after a month staying with our friend), I would nearly get run over here!

Have you been back since a part of Oxford St. was pedestrianized? My husband would rent a car to make it easier for me, and it really was amazing..with the handicap tag, that is allowed in London, and the rest of England, we were able to drive all the way down the street. They also allow free parking, etc., as does Toronto.

I am of part English heritage..my maternal Granddad was an East Ender.

With the amount of Jew hate now? I would not go back if I were able to. It is not the London I knew. It hurts so much.

We can't do that in NYC! They require a special permit from a Board there.

I haven't been back to England since I left in '84. London was in major renovation mode at that time, seems you had to walk under scaffolding almost everywhere, except for Piccadilly circus. Street changes and traffic blocking were well under way, IIRC-they were trying to make certain areas pretty much pedestrian only.
As to being related, I'm pure Pollock on Dads' side, Scottish/Irish/Dutch/Cherokee on my Moms'.....tho all of Moms' ancestors did start out on the Eastern seaboard of the US (I think the Cherokee were first tho, the rest arrived later...LOL).
