Krauthammer: When Austria Mocks You, You’re Having a Bad Week

Opinion • Views: 1,970

Charles Krauthammer’s latest: It’s Your Country Too, Mr. President.

Our president came bearing a basketful of mea culpas. With varying degrees of directness or obliqueness, Obama indicted his own people for arrogance, for dismissiveness and derisiveness, for genocide, for torture, for Hiroshima, for Guantanamo and for insufficient respect for the Muslim world.

And what did he get for this obsessive denigration of his own country? He wanted more NATO combat troops in Afghanistan to match the surge of 17,000 Americans. He was rudely rebuffed.

He wanted more stimulus spending from Europe. He got nothing.

From Russia, he got no help on Iran. From China, he got the blocking of any action on North Korea.

And what did he get for Guantanamo? France, pop. 64 million, will take one prisoner. One! (Sadly, he’ll have to leave his bridge partner behind.) The Austrians said they would take none. As Interior Minister Maria Fekter explained with impeccable Germanic logic, if they’re not dangerous, why not just keep them in America?

When Austria is mocking you, you’re having a bad week.

See how far unicorn farts and cotton candy clouds get ya?! So the people raising hell about the terrorists in custody don't want them? Fine, let the Code Pinkos, Peaceniks, etc...house them. Put them in Bill Ayers or Rahm Emmanuels neighborhood.

It is passing strange for a world leader to celebrate his own country's decline. A few more such overseas tours, and Obama will have a lot more decline to celebrate.

Ouch. I'm one of the 58% who voted for the other guy. I'm not celebrating the decline of our nation.

As Interior Minister Maria Fekter explained with impeccable Germanic logic, if they’re not dangerous, why not just keep them in America?

Indeed.

The fact is that the supposedly vaunted Obama European campaign stop didn't exactly get what Obama wanted. He didn't get the troop commitments for Afghanistan, and they didn't exactly swoon over his overseas contingency operations plans either. They're a muddled mess on Iran and North Korea, and the UN couldn't even come up with a weakly worded letter to contest the North Korean UN SCR violation with their missile launch.

The Administration's handling of these situations ranges from feckless aloofness to absolute ignorance. And our allies and enemies are seeing what results. Iran continues advancing their nuclear program. North Korea tests their missiles, and the US shrugs its shoulders at all of it. They can't even be bothered to make a stand on piracy, which pretty much every country would support because international trade is concerned.

But, Obama will take credit for an improving economy even though his porkfest had nothing to do with it. Real estate is improving in many parts of the country, and low interest rates are a big reason, along with affordable housing prices for qualified buyers. Banks are lending again - and paying attention to who they're lending to (though we'll see how long that lasts as Congress and the usual suspects will demand more lending to subprimes).

UK Terror Suspects Worked at Airport & Linked to Mumbai Terrorists

The Pakistani nationals and Al-Qaeda members arrested this week in Great Britain worked at the Manchester Airport and were linked to the terrorists who attacked Mumbai last year.

(....)

At least one drove vans for a cargo company which has access to sensitive locations.

A further two had passed security industry checks which enabled them to guard premises overnight, further raising fears that members of the gang - all but one of them Pakistani students - were planning to infiltrate high-profile targets before an attack.

OT: Here's a curious story.....
Extremist terrorist threatens multiple beheadings. Media Silent.

One story you probably won’t have heard recently is the attempted terrorist attack on Glasgow Central Mosque. Neil MacGregor has pleaded guilty to not only trying to blow up Scotland’s biggest Mosque but also threatening to behead one Muslim a week until there are no more Mosques in Scotland.
It’s a shocking attack with extremely sinister objectives. Surely if anything is newsworthy then this is it? Yet there’s been barely a peep from any media outlets. I wonder why there has been no press coverage on this at all. Would it be different if it was a Muslim extremist trying to blow up a church or synagogue? The sentencing will be tomorrow morning.

Their link goes to a series of blog posts, nothing substantial. Google search: Neil MacGregor
show a few result from Pakistani sources about the mosque bombing but nothing from a reputable source. The British Museum Director's name is Neil MacGregor.
I find it hard to believe this story could be true and there's a complete media blackout on it. I guess MPACUK is just trying to distract from the Easter weekend plot that just got busted.

Well, the pirates have taken another crew hostage while that first group is holding off the U.S. Navy with a couple of machine guns and a hostage.

The last time we had Democrat President and Congress wasn't there a hostage crisis as well? I seem to remember something about muslims taking Americans hostage and humiliating the U.S. Military who was, under that administration, powerless to stop them.

Which demonstrates how much of a farce this stimulus package was and the manufactured rush to pass it. The funds haven't even started to hit 99.8% of the projects and the skies are lightening. Then this crew is busy claiming responsibility for fixing something that a) wouldn't have gotten to this point without government interference into the markets in the first place; and b) isn't really fixed as it will get rebuggered up as the budget / porkulus impacts really happen.

Meanwhile, we have numerous banks trying to re-pay their TARP loans and being rebuffed by the Administration because the only axe hanging over the heads of the banks and their executives are the TARP funds. Now just why is the government so reluctant to get that taxpayer money returned?

The Europeans don't yet understand that Obama wants to wind down, and eventually eliminate, our status as a military superpower. We've employed that power since WWII to protect Europe and other allies. Obama's trying to accomplish that by approaching our allies, and asking them to begin to assume more responsibility in their own defense, and for the burden of dealing with issues like the GITMO inmates, for example.

The Europeans are laughing at him right now, but that laughter will become short-lived as they realize that Obama really means to withdraw our defensive shield from Europe. Without American protection, the Europeans are very, very exposed. Only the Brits have a military that might possibly defend Britain without U.S. help in a real crisis.

Much as I disagree with his policy on this issue, we shouldn't laugh at Obama about this. He's deadly serious.

Which is why the Europeans should be panicking right now, rather than mocking Obama. Our withdrawal means they've got to step up to their own defense. That'll take twenty years, assuming they have the political will to do so. It also means they'll have to scale back their social welfare programs to afford it.

He who laughs last-- Obama may get the last laugh out of this.

No Putin will.

I however see all my friends and acquaintances that voted for Obama even more enthralled with him now and add to that they are enthralled with his wife. I find this astounding but that is what I see in my neighborhood. If buyer remorse is going to happen I think it is still many events down the road. Also since I don’t believe we are on the brink or economic disaster and never where as the economy springs back Obama will reap full benefit and be with us for many more dubious events that by themselves will not do him in. Saudi rapist 22nd convict beheaded this year

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia - A Saudi man convicted of rape and robbery has been beheaded, becoming the 22nd prisoner to be executed by sword this year in the kingdom.

Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam under which people convicted of murder, drug trafficking, rape and armed robbery can be executed — usually with a sword.

Obama's weekly radio address contains this nugget:

Obama used the eight-day trip to highlight his ambitious foreign policy agenda, including starting negotiations with Russia about reducing nuclear stockpiles. Such talks, announced alongside Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, would be the first talks in years and are part of Obama's pledge "to free the world from the menace of a nuclear nightmare."

Obama's more than willing to reduce US nuclear capabilities while completely incapable of garnering consensus on dealing with the rogue regime of Iran, which has completed the nuclear fuel cycle and can continue enriching nuclear materials to its black hearted content. Weapons grade uranium is only a matter of time.

Iran's busy on the nuclear side, and Obama shrugs and says he's going to free the world from the menace of nuclear weapons. Whose nuclear nightmare is he talking about? The no-nukes crowd? It certainly isn't Iran.

Meanwhile, North Korea, which already has nuclear weapons capabilities tested a missile last week and Obama's vaunted world tour couldn't get consensus on that either.

Instead, Obama pushes to stop deployment of missile defense that would protect Europe from rogue nation missile launches.

That isn't leadership. It's fecklessness and ignorance that power politics still means something in international affairs. Regimes, terrorists, and pirates will step into the vacuum, and they already have.

A "funeral for the Empire" -- typical event in Oakland, California today celebrating the new emasculated America!

Groundbreaking spiritual teacher and systems thinker Joanna Macy has long been suggesting that our effectiveness as social change agents relies on our willingness to feel the suffering of the world and its many inhabitants; she has pioneered what she originally called "Despair Work" and now calls "The Work that Reconnects." (The key is that it is both! Connecting with our despair reconnects us to all other people and to creation, creating powerful solidarity.) Theologian Matthew Fox likewise stresses the importance of the "via negativa," the path that leads us into darkness, pain, emptiness, and helplessness. It is out of this crucible that our creativity and capacity for transformation emerges.

With this potential for transformative grieving in mind, Seminary of the Street is working with First Congregational Church of Oakland to cosponsor a "Funeral for the Empire." At this funeral, we will grieve for the many ways that the Spirit of Life is still being crucified today--both out in the world and inside us--and we'll spend some time mourning all that has died, and also all that needs to die in us in order to live into an alternative way that subverts our long history of domination and exploitation.

The goal of this powerful and meditative service will be to increase our capacity for solidarity with all suffering beings and to fuel the efforts of our many social justice organizations to build an alternative reality. Please join us, and forward this event to all the social change organizations and activists with whom you are connected.

Shoplifters found after leaving photos in cart

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Authorities say two Port St. Lucie woman tried to steal nearly $200 worth of merchandise from a Wal-Mart but got caught because they left packets of recently developed pictures in their abandoned shopping carts.

Police say a self-checkout cashier noticed two women scan and pay for $70 worth of items Thursday, but the bagged groceries in their carts appeared worth much more. When the cashier asked to see their receipt, the women took off.

Among all the merchandise that hadn’t been paid for, store officials found two packets of recently developed pictures. The cashier identified the women in the photos, and the name and phone number on the envelopes turned out to belong to one of the women.

No signs of it yet with Obama, but I really hope he doesn't start trying to get Israel to "set an example" in that sphere. Just under the latest stock market update from Friday, which has the Dow up 246.27 points, there's a link to a video called "End of recession near, economists say." And then, right under those two stories, is the poll. The question is:

President Obama says he is seeing "glimmers of hope" in the economy. Do you agree?

Not surprisingly, 66% of respondents have said yes, and 34% said no.

162 amphibian  Sat, Apr 11, 2009 9:03:41am

I hope the Republican Party cam come up with something good in '12. So far, Jindal seems like all the bad stereotypes rolled into one, and the MSM is doing its best to fix Palin in the public mind as useless trailer trash. Thompson is of course unelectable because of insufficient hairline. I fear that if we can't find another Reagan in four years, the story of Husseinovich and his successor will resemble that of Allende and Pinochet. Other possibility is, the American people will be so fat and stupid they won't know that Husseinovich is a first-class putz, and re-elect him. In that case, we're in very bad shape indeed.

Thanks for being there, LGF! I've been doing more lurking than posting lately because of a new job in new city. Medical software business got kind of soft after last Nov. 5; my (former) employers understood that hopeychange isn't going to pay as many engineers as they were employing...

The woman KILLED AN 8-YEAR-OLD GIRL! (Allegedly.) And all you see is so-called Christian-bashing? She (allegedly) abused a position of trust to harm a child. If she were a teacher, scout leader, or anything similar, that would have been mentioned too, because it is shocking and unexpected. It's shocking precisely because we expect better of a Sunday school teacher.

I don't have enough up dings to give you. I said it above, if she was muslim, some people would be screaming bloody murder if that fact was left unreported.

Popular Obama fansite CNN.com has been running its latest pro-Obama push poll since yesterday.

Just under the latest stock market update from Friday, which has the Dow up 246.27 points, there's a link to a video called "End of recession near, economists say." And then, right under those two stories, is the poll. The question is:

Not surprisingly, 66% of respondents have said yes, and 34% said no.

Did they say it in a monotone manner, akin to the hypnotized or heavily medicated?

I guess because in general, we hold Sunday school teachers to a higher set of morals, or at least a set of moral compatible with the subject they teach.

Of course the MSM wants to play this up, but you would be screaming bloody murder if this was a "muslim" and they kept that info neatly tucked away.

She didn't leave the suitcase in the driveway. The "theft" of the suitcase in which the child was found is an attempt to disassociate herself from the evidence. It's clearly not working.

The article I saw indicated she is the granddaughter of the church's pastor, and his home was also searched. She may have just been disposing of evidence. We'll just have to wait for more information.

It's like we aren't living on the same planet.

Well, his grandparents who raised him were commies. His mother was a commie. His "friend Frank" was a commie useful idiot of the CPUSA. His deadbeat father and Kenyan grandfather were commies. He made sure to hang out with commies at college. And to put a cherry on top of all this, he's a product of the famously honest Chicago political system.

Do you suppose he and we are working with the same facts? (Well, to answer my own rhetorical question, yes, but his and our understanding of the rules for using the facts are very different.)

For many years it was the stuff of comedy on Leno and such to interview Americans on the street and realize that they had zero knowledge of current events and history. It was so funny.

It's not a joke anymore. Those type fools are now the majorities who are supporting Obama on his magic carpet ride whose destination is the end of American exceptionalism.

The ignorant fools will continue to be fools. Unfortunately for us, who are aware, who will realize as we take every step down from that shining hill as described by Ronald Reagan, it will be very very painful.

I think she is the granddaughter of the minister of that church, and lived with her grandfather. I think that was her "job" - so it did not seem unreasonable to me to describe her that way.

After a couple of years, I more or less created informal categories for the various conservative bloggers -- ranging from "thoughtful" to "borderline dangerous," with most somewhere in between.

What I didn't expect was to see Charles Johnson's "Little Green Footballs" emerge as a reform-minded blog for the right.
......
After having read Little Green Footballs over the years, I didn't expect it to be one of the sites urging conservatives to pull back from the fringes and be more responsible. It's a pleasant surprise.

Just so folks are clear on what we are dealing with in terms of the "Pirates" off of Somalia, WAPO tells us this today -

Senior Obama administration officials are debating how to address a potential terrorist threat to U.S. interests from a Somali extremist group, with some in the military advocating strikes against its training camps. But many officials maintain that uncertainty about the intentions of the al-Shabab organization dictates a more patient, nonmilitary approach.

Al-Shabab, whose fighters have battled Ethiopian occupiers and the tenuous Somali government, poses a dilemma for the administration, according to several senior national security officials who outlined the debate only on the condition of anonymity.

The organization's rapid expansion, ties between its leaders and al-Qaeda, and the presence of Americans and Europeans in its camps have raised the question of whether a preemptive strike is warranted. Yet the group's objectives have thus far been domestic, and officials say that U.S. intelligence has no evidence it is planning attacks outside Somalia.

Unreal.

We live in a time of un-reality. The "reality based community" has taken over and considers attacking ships on the high seas a domestic political activity and is therefore flummoxed as to what to do about it.

For those on this board who tell us that we can't act against the sponsors of these "Pirates" on the ground, let me point out something - THEY ARE AN AL QAEDA LINKED TERROR ORGANIZATION.

And when you pay them ransom, you pay Al Qaeda.

No. Other. Way. Around. It.

Au contraire- Sanders was one of the classiest guys ever in pro football. He was always humble and was not known to celebrate as so many others did. He always always gave credit to his teammates with each of his successes and didn't bad- mouth others.

Barry Sanders didn't care about winning? That's the exact reason he quit, because he knew Detroit wasn't going anywhere. His heart was broken because of their lack of competitiveness, year after year. They got to the playoffs four times with Barry, I think, but went no further.
It's widely recognized that Barry would have likely been number one in the NFL all- time rushing stats if he had stayed another season and Sanders knew that, too. He just couldn't take the culture of losing at Detroit any more.

In a world gone crazy, the pizza is a small thing. But in a way, it truly is indicative of someone "too good" to have pizza made by the pizzeria in Washington, DC. Apparently no one in DC puts arugala on the top... He eats Waygu beef because he is too good to eat otherwise. Michelle orders lobster...He'd better remain wealthy or he'd starve.

It's Chicago Pizza that doesn't resemble Pizza - Chicago Pizza is just a glorified casserole!

Bizarre.

Huckaby also said she had left her suitcase in the driveway that day, and it was missing.

"It’s not my grandfather’s," Huckaby told the Tracy Press of the missing suitcase. “It’s mine and someone took it.”

re: #132 Walter L. Newton

If it's true, what's the problem? If she was Muslim, and they kept that quiet, would that be ok?

They keep murders, and the details on those murders quiet all the time. On a daily basis basically. Good luck finding a comprehensive report on every single murder in America, right down to the profession, hobbies and relationship of either the victim or perpetrator.

There is no "if" in the equation. It is currently not Ok that they are currently 'keeping quiet', and the fact that murders that occur today will go practically unreported.

I won't rake anyone over the coals for including lots of details in a news report; but there is absolutely no "If" when it comes to not reporting details that are inconvenient to their bias. Especially when those details are "racist".

Why isn't the headline about the latest gangland shooting, et cetera? Can't advertise that we basically have active ethnocentric paramilitary youth movements in our cities. Or ultraviolent organized criminals that essentially control our southern border. Personally, I find that a lot more interesting and disturbing than a Sunday School teacher murderer (not that I don't find it interesting and disturbing at all though).

Why aren't these murders (including mass murders) headlines every. single. day. No "if" about selective reporting at all. Especially considering a young Muslim American woman apparently was arrested for a child murder very recently (last week I believe), and it is of course not a headline, anywhere (not that it even should be, and part of the problem is that the Sunday School teachers victim was a cute little white girl, which plays into a subset of 'Missing White Woman Syndrome'.)

I would still rather have news concerning the massive amount of gang and crime related violence that happens every single day, as it is much more relevant to the actually situation of the country than random nutjobs; but it likewise will continue to go almost completely unreported by major news outlets in favor of sensationalist stories that fit a specific narrative.

There are eleventymillion pizza parlors (sometimes called Italian Restaurants) in NYC and in my 35 years there I ate at many of them. Deep dish (or casserole) pizza doesn't have a crisp crust - it has a cakeish lower crust and it's only cause they have to cook it long enough to cook all the crap inside the casserole that the top crust is crisp.
Pizza is meant to be Oily, thin crust, mostly sauce and cheese and folded over only in the vain hope that the oil won't dribble down your chin!

Speaking of Mos Def....this is a very thoughtful piece written by an African American who is not impressed with Def's shtick.

A Great Black Actor Goes Loco

The second Dante Terrell Smith lives up to his silly nickname. Not long ago, after reading a black political blog, I found myself moving along, link to link, until I went from Smith’s making hilarious fun of another rapper’s insipid lyrics to a very disturbing appearance he made with Cornel West in a discussion with Bill Maher on Real Time some time shortly before the presidential election. That was a gully-low moment.

I found it disturbing because it was the contrived Mutt and Jeff act of a public—or pop—black intellectual and a guy from the bottom. Successful people perform that act in order to prove that they are still connected to the community. While Cornel West pretended to sympathize with “where he was coming from,” the actor ran through the counterfeit lack of sense we see too frequently in those always trying to make it clear that they have not “left the ‘hood.” Their mask of brain rot allows them to genuflect in the face of ignorance.

Just a few weeks ago, Smith appeared on Real Time with Salman Rushdie and Christopher Hitchens, but his pretentious "brother from the projects" act did not go over well. His supposed courage to "express an unpopular opinion" was taken by Hitchens as an insult to the common intellectual knowledge that anyone should have about big issues in the contemporary world. Unlike those white Americans who have presented black illogic as a form of popular entertainment since the days of Malcolm X and Eldridge Cleaver, Hitchens was not having it and challenged Smith to back up his purported opinions. This is something the British are much better at than their American counterparts. Stuck in his act, Smith wavered forward, sinking with every syllable he uttered. That's how it goes: When the right white people are encountered, contrived ethnic authenticity doesn't cut it.

Unfortunately we are even teaching our kids at school that violence never solves anything.

Sometime the bully on the playground needs a bloody nose.
Some people need killing.
Some groups like the pirates need elimination.
Some regimes need to be remove by any means.

We are quickly forgetting the world is a harsh place and violence is a part of it.

The world will look up and shout 'Save Us!'

And I'll whisper......."No!"///Rorschach

To the more Progressive mind violence can be suppressed with nonviolent means. Such as a serial rapist can be reformed. They'll point to example after example of nonviolence working. Of course they're delusional, contracting deeper into their psyche when confronted with the reality that nonviolent means to ending conflict is the exception of history and not the rule.

I don't disagree. As I said before, I disagree with this policy, but the Europeans don't yet understand that Obama is serious about winding down the U.S. as a global military power.

In doing so he's actually taking a page out of the EUranian playbook. There's no way he can pay for his grandiose social engineering programs without military budget cuts. Not even with the tax increases he is mulling (provided that he can even get them approved).

if you live in Massachusetts, Pepe's Pizza opened a place off Interstate 84 in Manchester, CT. I tried it once (it's much closer to my home than New haven) and it was really good. Maybe not quite as good as the original place in New haven, but better than anything else in the area.

For those lizards new to right-wing cant, here is the definition of Strange New Respect: it is a label the Right gives to the praise from liberals which conservatives get when they turn coat.

The far Right has been sticking this label on any praise any conservative might get from a liberal whenever that conservative points out worrying facts about the far Right.

I like Chicago pizza, but let's not pretend it's pizza. It's something else: Chicago Pizza.

My goodness, I can recall the smell of childhood NY pizza from 45+ years ago. A slice at Pizza Prince on Austin St. was the same price as a subway token: 15 cents.

Living in New Mexico, it's a bit difficult (to put it mildly) to get the Real Thing. It's as if these folks never heard of pizza sauce. On the plus side, green chile is a good topping.

I'm just going to say something. Probly not much point since it's so far down in the thread and this one is already superseded by another, but:

The bow and the pizza are something of a big deal to me. He bowed to a fucking despotic anti-Semite. This is awful and irrational; in what world does any citizen much less the leader of a country virtually founded in the belief that all men are created equal and that hereditary monarchy is invalid BOW to an hereditary monarch? I'd rather see a president holding hands with him. As Scott Hinderaker noted at Powerline, "The Office of Chief of Protocol apparently remains unfilled by an appointee."

Next, the lie about it. If you don't mind the bow, how about the lie? Pretty clunky one, that Obama is so tall he had to bend over for a handshake. Queen Elizabeth is much shorter than King Abdullah, and Obama managed the proper head-dip for her.

The pizza in itself doesn't bother me, but combined with Obama's sanctimonious lectures about how we lousy Americans turn our heat up and drive big cars, it bothers me. Not enough to carry on and on, but definitely enough to stop and object.

since they've been building ocean going naval vessels - aircraft carriers and what will wind up being Aegis Class cruisers (thank you, Bill Clinton!) I have to think they are looking globally. And I'm not gonna worry about Taiwan until China starts to build HUGE numbers of amphibious landing ships.

Something to keep in mind, now that you mention it. That and their sudden interest in helping out against the pirates off the Horn of Africa does point to plans that involve blue water. I mentioned Taiwan as a forinstance. If China got aggressive against a big opponent, I would expect them to try to go for a piece of Siberia. Russia is still behind the US in technology, I think, and the prize is a valuable one.

The pizza thing is but a small symptom of a serious desease: posturing, petty, in-your-face arrogance, or, as I call it "third-world dictator syndrome". This is something some skanky little third-world tin-pot dictator would do, when he wants to flaunt his affluence and power and is not in the mood to commit mass murders. This also reminds me of the gold-plated toilets of the Russian nouveau riche, back in the 90s. Although, in their defense be said, many of them actually earned the money they spent on stupid shit. Komrade Zer0 is supported by our taxes, so he has no excuse.

"See? See? I am powerful! I am rich! I am better than you dirt-scratching unsophisticated peasants! I fly in my pizza boy and I poop in a golden latrine!" Petty, distasteful and stupid, really. Sorry if I sound racist (don't mean to be), but we've got ourselves one uncouth, ghetto-ass President.

You think? My impression of China is, it seems more of less content to stay in its sandbox, with maybe colonialist excursions into Africa. I think they're waiting for America to decline before they invade Taiwan, for instance. Do you think otherwise?

As for Europe, maybe. Europe is going to be part of either the New Caliphate or the New Ottoman Empire in a few decades. How do they differ? One is big, young and aggressive, the other is big, fat and lethargic.

Actually I think Europe will bounce back. The current Governments may well crack and fail. but i think a signifigant portion of the populations will fight eventually. I have heard that denmark is full of babies. There has been a bounce back. also consider that the muslim populations in Europe have no direct means of support. They all live in the cities and can be easily isolated and starved out if war breaks out. It will all come down to how much pressure the Muslim countries can bring down on The European countries and how much cooperation they can get from Quisling types in Europe. Also consider what the muslims have going for them. The have numbers and an extreme willingness to die. which is not nothing. on the minus side not much intelligence or development.

#369: After some time looking into French perfidy even when it was nominally Catholic, I am not predicting a religious "war" there. I do expect armed police action at least in France, a la Jenin, which gets rid of the worst Islamists, but that's nothing in the scheme of things. France's geography, history, and culture I suspect are so hostile to theocracy that even if the population were half Algerian, it would still be secular. Even if the whole of Europe was Muslim, including France: France would be the foremost supporter of Christian (or, if no Christians could be found, Shi'a) rebels. Look at how they handled the Thirty Year War. France is all about France.

That does not necessarily mean that France will cease supporting thugs abroad when it suits French interests, but fears of a French caliphate are overblown.

Ideology seems to have more of a hold on the Spanish and German character, so I'd worry more about religious wars in those countries...

The hills are alive with the sound of mockery...Obama's recent European Blovation had the nuance and sophistication of The Three Stooges combined with the whining of Wimpy as he stumbled from country to country begging for burgers and squeegeeing windows as he sold America down the proverbial Rhine, Danube, Thames and Tigress...and he's the President Of The United States!

Nice article Charles. When I first saw it, I thought "Now he wants to pick on Krauthammer? What the hell? But I was mistaken. Then I read the column. Nice info. Having a Crew Chief/Team Manager who gets a kid each year who gets to go to school here, I have learned much about different countries and different people. Besides what I have learned in my life. (A had a high school buddy from Iran at the time BEFORE the hostage crises. That pissed him off big time) There 1st daughter was adopted from Korea when she was an infant. She looks like a 60's flower child now. Working in CA now.
There are people in Europe who likes this country very much. You may not see much when you are looking at politicians.

I've seen some bashing of Glenn Beck on here, of whom I am no huge fan, for being "apocalyptic." But what happens when the major force for good in the world starts rolling back its moral authority, at the same time as a major economic downturn is occuring, Iran and North Korea are trying to develop nukes while we apologize for them, they join hands with Hugo Chavez while sympathy for Hamas increases, Russia and China are more and more emboldened- in short, our "president" is weakening us at a time that our enemies are strengthening themselves. Looking at the world as a potential battlefield, is apocalypse so crazy? You don't have to be a prophet to see the writing on the wall.

Obama did NOT bow to that Saudi.
It was a curtsey!

Obama is controlling the situation by his sheer brain-power alone! As the most intelligent President ever, his I.Q. is so high that he can can change(tm) any situation anywhere in the world merely by putting his mind to it.
Don't you remember how the entire political world was amazed when Occidental College released his S.A.T. scores?!
His scores and grades were so amazing, that Columbia University recruited him to finish his undergraduate degree there and never even bothered to record his grades or even the courses he took.
When Harvard Law School got wind of this 'Immaculate Matriculation', they begged Him to grace their halls and never bothered to record his grades, courses, of even his L.S.A.T. scores.
His fellow Law Review members elected him their president without ever requiring him to write a single Law Review article, for, like Homer,(and Jesus), his mere thoughts were sufficient to change(tm) all of History! Not one of that Trinity deigned to scribe his own words.
Even unto today, Obama has only to think a thought, and it is instantly transferred to the Tele-Promptor ! Someday those very thoughts will be e-mailed to 'Little Red i-pods', so that every A.C.O.R.N. cadre will be able to quote the O-Man in any setting.
