The New York Times is Possessed by Satan

Religion • Views: 3,579

Or so insists Italian exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth, who says the Devil is inspiring all this media coverage of Catholic Church child abuse: Satan behind media attacks on the Pope, asserts Italian exorcist.

Rome, Italy, Mar 31, 2010 / 11:47 am (CNA).- Noted Italian exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth, commented this week that the recent defamatory reporting on Pope Benedict XVI, especially by the New York Times, was “prompted by the devil.”

Speaking to News Mediaset in Italy, the 85-year-old exorcist noted that the devil is behind “the recent attacks on Pope Benedict XVI regarding some pedophilia cases.”

“There is no doubt about it. Because he is a marvelous Pope and worthy successor to John Paul II, it is clear that the devil wants to ‘grab hold’ of him.”

Father Amorth added that in instances of sexual abuse committed by some members of the clergy, the devil “uses” priests in order to cast blame upon the entire Church: “The devil wants the death of the Church because she is the mother of all the saints.”

Father Amorth added that in instances of sexual abuse committed by some members of the clergy, the devil “uses” priests in order to cast blame upon the entire Church

What casts "blame" upon the entire Church is the complete and utter failure of the Church leaders to deal with the issue!

Why, oh why, don't they get it?

They are looking at all of this as an attack on priests. It is not, unless the Church refuses to deal strongly with the abusers. Which the Church has refused to do.

The folks who are really hurting in all of this aren't the leadership, the Pope, it's first, the victims, and second, your every-day run-of-the-mill Catholic, like myself.

Major ugh all the way around.

Ha! Very true...usually it's been the sole responsibility of the Evangelical Extremist Right to make this accusation...the Catholics are just being a little defensive in light of the bad press they've gotten as a result of hiding decades of abuse by a 'handful' of priests.

Do you remember that National Anthem row she got into after she tour up the picture? She said she didn't know that the National Anthem was sung before ballgames and was set to sing... not sure if they wanted her to sing the Anthem or not, but anyway, I think she refused to go on. She said that all Anthems glorify war and represent nationalism and she wouldn't be a part of it.

Now, I don't agree with that. I think one can have a healthy dose of patriotism and not be a nut, but I always admired her for taking her own stand.

I am a Catholic, but I married Protestant. My husband has steeped me in Protestant lore: Protestants get results. Protestants think ahead. Protestants save (Catholics spend). My Protestant in-laws had to endure our Catholic wedding, their faces rigid with polite distress as they took in the crucifix over the altar with its bleeding Christ and the candles flickering in front of the portrait of the dusky, brilliantly garbed Virgin of Guadalupe. In turn, I politely endure my mother-in-law’s Protestant cooking: no garlic, no onions, no spices, no wine at the table. Catholics invented Côtes du Rhone and cannelloni; Protestants invented the airplane and the thirteen-week T-bill.

Now this is an interesting question. The Vatican is recognized as a sovereign state, and the Pope is the head of state. He's also the head of the Catholic Church. So, when the Pope visits the UK, some lawyers there are wondering whether they could still manage to sue him under the concept of "universal jurisdiction" in the ongoing sex abuse scandal.

I don't think it will gain traction, but that they're discussing this at all shows the seriousness of the issues facing the Church over its ongoing failure to deal with the scandal.

Holy Crap.

60 Minutes is doing a story about how grateful the Ugandans are to President George W. Bush for all of the help with the AIDS assistance.

I am still very proud of him for what he did for the African continent. More than any President has ever done for the African people. We can't afford it... I am glad we are doing it anyway.

But I am sure someone can tell me he did it for less than noble reasons.

If I was a more cynical person I might complain about the programs focus on abstinence in a country where there are statistically almost no 14 year old virgins. No one can complain about the educational aspects though, at least they tried very hard to educate people as to what AIDs was and how it spread.

Anything that reduces the belief in the witch doctor "cures," and the belief that sex with a virgin will cure you that has led to a lot of rapes of underage girls is a good thing.

The epicenter was at the very southern end of the region where the USGS estimates a very large quake (the big one) might occur. That whole area is very active - it seems like only a couple of months ago we were discussing a quake just a few miles from that epicenter in Guadalupe Victoria.

For those outside of the region: the area in question is the delta area of the Colorado river. As such the land is quite flat and fertile (indeed, I've been pigging out on the 79cent strawberries these past few days) and farmed extensively. Many agricultural workers live in the region from the Gulf of California delta area of the Colorado river up the valley all the way to El Centro (in Imperial county California.) While on this side of the border the building codes are strict, down in Baja one never knows quite how a building was built. I'd be surprised if there wasn't damage to dwellings in the area.

-- The most infamous feud in American folklore, the long-running battle between the Hatfields and McCoys, may be partly explained by a rare, inherited disease that can lead to hair-trigger rage and violent outbursts.
Dozens of McCoy descendants apparently have the disease, which causes high blood pressure, racing hearts, severe headaches and too much adrenaline and other "fight or flight" stress hormones.

Greek text doesn't identify the Antichrist as Satan or not as Satan. He is certainly identified as doing the work of Satan. Any thing else is pure speculation with out any textual proof.

Yes. The Antichrist is an agent of Satan, but not Satan himself. The Muslims have a similar character, an 'imposter' who comes near the end of time and pretty much does everything our Antichrist does. It gets some airing in the epistles of St. John. Or it's a poetic representation of emperor Nero.

There is no such thing as a Christian method, or code, or set of rules that would apply to the whole realm of human life in order to tell us at each step what is the proper way to do things. There is a Christian behavior toward oneself, but Christianity will not tell you whether you should sleep on your back or on your stomach, or with which hand you should bathe yourself. There is a Christian way of playing one’s part on the political scene, but there is no Christian politics, let alone a specifically Christian policy applicable to any given case. There is a Christian attitude toward man as a fellow citizen, but no Christian law.

True story - I had a Japanese friend in college who eventually spoke good English, but was nearly useless when we first met and several of us were on a roadtrip to Houston. It turns out the Japanese do shishkabobs kind of like we in the States do pizza and tacos. We were arguing where to eat until he starts pointing at a place and say s "shishu kababu". He was certain it was a Japanese restaurant because shishkabobs were Japanese. We tried to say no they weren't, but couldnt make up our minds who DID create them, and he couldn't understand much anyway.

Curious question...in Christian theology...is the anti-christ a separate entity from Satan? How does that work? Is the devil akin to the boss of the anti-christ? Does one take marching orders from the other? Any ideas?

To make a long story short...kinda...Biblical Revelations as envisioned by the endtimers

The anti-christ supposedly starts out as a free agent, he is just another mortal human who has pledged himself to Satan's service. He follows satan's every order and ends up in charge of the NWO government of the entire world by pledging peace between all nations and offering a seven year peace treaty with Israel.

He then gets all countries to disarm themselves and give 1/10th of their weapons to the NWO government. He is assassinated by a sword wound to the head and then rises from the dead three days later. Except that unlike Jesus he does not really rise from the dead, he is merely inhabited/possessed by Satan and animated like a puppet.

Lots of other bad stuff happens and almost everyone left on earth after the raptures dies, Israel is betrayed and they all die except the 144,000, blah, blah, blah.

Mainly it is about feeling vindicated that the endtimers were right all along that everyone else will be suitably punished by an eternity of utterly horrible torture...

But to answer your question, at the beginning the anti-christ is just an evil man given power to do some magic tricks by Satan. Later he is a zombie who never sleeps that is inhabited by the spirit of Satan.

One day I will travel to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco and try their wings. I've been told by both men and women that the only thing that Hooters does well are the chicken wings. Thing is, the times I am down there (which has only been twice in the past 2 years), I go to In n Out, which is located next door. I'm a sucker for the double-double animal/protein style burger. That and a nice tall root beer. And a creamy chocolate shake. Creamy. Then it's meeting up with other friends on a chartered boat to float onto the Bay to watch fireworks in June. KABOOM!

Yep, excellent wings.

I'm not a theologian, but I wouldn't have expected the devil to be on the side of people who OPPOSE sexual abuse of children.

I think, however, that the devil very much favors people imagining that those who point their sins out are evil.

May, actually. Good times. The first time I went I had a very interesting conversation with a woman from Bristol who cheered the U.S. on but complained to no end about the "Muslim" problem in the suburbs and urban centers. It was an eye opener to actually hear a first hand account rather than just read about it, you know?

Full disclosure should not even be a split second delay, not for this. How about prosecutors serving some subpoenas here in the US?

Maybe. I'm not sure that's the way to go. Subpoenas would trigger an immediate defensive reaction and many of the devout might well think the investigation a witch hunt. Still, it might force the needed disclosure.

Yes, the AntiChrist will be a person. And he will be influenced by Satan. Nothing I have ever read says he will be technically possessed. But definitely led by him.

The devil also wants to give Pat Robertson a wedgie.

And in other news, Glenn Beck is planning a series of shows around the topic of Freemasonry in classical music.

First up: Mozart, "The Magic Flute", and the satanic plot to ensnare our children with "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" - playing which can turn you into a godless liberal for life.

I have to think that Mozart would have been quite entertained to know that his being a Mason would provide such ongoing levels of paranoia for hundreds of years into the future.

What I want to know is, why couldn't the Sekret Society keep their wunderkindt in good enough condition that he, say, made it to forty?

I can bitch and moan about the conditions under which some of the aid was given, if you want, but Bush's interest in and record on Africa is still excellent and admirable.

Man, okay. Believing in the devil as a metaphor for sin and temptation? Cool. I get it.

believing in an EVIL GUY WHO LIVES IN HELL,like he's a real entity? I cannot deal. I cannot deal, and I cannot understand, and I will never understand someone who believes in monsters.

You read "Good Omens"? I am always minded of the demon who discovered over the years that human don't need to be tempted to evil, in fact we are very good at it.

IIRC, he won a commendation for the Spanish Inquisition, which he had nothing to do with.

We have met the Enemy, and he is us.

Earthquakes don't kill people, buildings do.

Damn skippy. You look at traditional Ohlone buildings, you realize what a world of hurt people create for themselves with all this architecture.

If a traditional Ohlone house falls in during an earthquake, you pick the twigs out of your hair and start rebuilding.

That's why guys like that Schaeffer fellow that Charles posted an article from earlier (regarding the Hutaree militia) piss me off, even though (or perhaps because) I agree with much of what they say. His remark that the Religious Right had "one of their own" in office with W. for "8 long ruinous years" made me grind my teeth. This refusal by many center-left commentators, bloggers, columnists, etc. to see ANYTHING good in his presidency and in fact declare it an unmitigated disaster (usually without offering any facts to support the claim, or acknowledging any facts that argue against it) is a liability, IMO. I know that personally it's very difficult for me to continue reading an article, even one I generally agree with, once the writer sees fit to drop some gratuitous bash-Bush bomb.

Otis Campbell...

My college freshman year roommate was nicknamed "Otis" because he was always "not quite with it". The irony was that he was one of the very few non-drinkers on our floor; between being over-medicated and a physics major, he just wasn't functioning on the same earthly plane as the rest of us. Slept 15 hours a day, was a little lax (ahem) in his personal grooming, and used to talk in his sleep. In French.

Great guy, but to this day not quite on our planet, which explains his marrying a born-again and moving to Colorado Springs.

If I were his boss I would just be pointing the man to Mk 3.22, but since I am not, here we go.

The closest thing to Satan we have on Earth is the NSA, and its counterparts. If he is convinced that the world as we know it is possessed by surveillance government, then he shall use his powers, if any, to cast it out into the darkness as soon as possible. There is no reason to assume that the institutionalized abuse of souls represented by surveillance government had any more right to exist than the Maciel order.
