And this is why I love LGF. I like political banter but I like fine music even more. This is fine guitar. I remember singing this song once during karaoke a few years back in college. Hard Day's Night isn't quite Sergeant Pepper's but it's a very good album on its own merits.

That has "In My Life" on it. Have a special liking for that one since my folks danced to it at their wedding. My one small complaint if I have one about the Beatles is they didn't use George enough. No disrespect to Paul and John but Harrison was a fine artist too.

From an article on Yahoo on Romney getting blasted for politicizing the tragedy:
A senior Romney aide, who declined to be named, dismissed the idea that the Republican candidate had been damaged by his response to the attacks in Libya and Egypt. The aide insisted to Yahoo News that the election would likely come down to an "overall referendum" on Obama's performance in office—including on foreign policy and the economy. "'Are you better off than you were four years ago?' is the question that will determine the election," the Romney aide said.
Is this the aide that thought putting Clint Eastwood on prime-time was a good idea? Or the one that thought praising Bill Clinton before his speech was a good idea? Or the one who thought releasing Romney's angry "response" to Obama's speech.....before Obama had even finished the speech....was a good idea? Or maybe it was the aide who suggested picking Paul Ryan as his running-mate and shifting the focus of the race from the economy and Obamacare, to Medicare and Social Security?
WORST. CAMPAIGN. EVER.
(I also find it funny that this guy is out there saying there was nothing wrong with Romney's reaction, and that it wouldn't be damaging.....but isn't willing to put his name on it. Even this aide doesn't want to associate his name with statements this stupid.)

I used to say that this reminded me of Kerry's run back in '04, but even got a modest bounce out of the DNC. Romney got virtually nothing, and Obama's started to pull away. Unless he can find some way to fake charisma in time for the debates, the fix is in.

It would have to be a dramatic downturn in the next couple weeks. Somebody linked me to an article the other day from back in July, which was wildly optimistic about Romney's chances, but did point out the reality that with the various rules for early voting in effect, the power of major events to alter the election diminishes as we get closer to Election Day, rather than increasing.

Ayep, he was the latest and last "Not Romney." They first looked at Bachmann and decided she was too batshit, looked at Perry and decided he was too stupid, looked at Cain and decided he was too sleazy, looked at Gingrich and decided he was too immoral, and finally settled on Santorum. Problem was, by that time, Romney had taken so much of a lead in the primaries that there was no way Rick could really challenge him anymore.

I ran every story line, even ran the whole campaign as a pacifist before the DLCs came out. Ran the whole game and never fired a shot and had no kills.

Still think it's cool that they actually took the time to put everything in you'd need for a pacifist run.

The hobby store I ordered from for years went of business recently. I looked around at other online outlets and finally settled on one in Minnesota. They had a good selection and reasonable prices. I placed a 31 dollar order. They sent an e-mail confirming the order. This included the heretofore unsuspected news that they take 2-3 weeks to ship orders. That's right, weeks to even process and send the order. I am not in urgent need of model planes and related products but a 2 or 3 week delay in shipping an order strikes me as the absolute nadir of customer service.
I'm usually very careful about reading fine print but this is something so weird and unheard of in this business you wouldn't think of asking about it until you actually see it. There was no warning at all about this, you don't see the shipping time until you actually place the order.
They have a phone number but there is no human being answering it and there is no provision for cancelling an order on their website.
Fortunately, they don't bill your credit card until they actually ship, though I might have died or the dollar could have become worthless by that time.
I don't know what's up with these clowns but I suspect they don't have a lot of repeat business. They certainly won't get any from me.

Uh-oh, now an attack in Yemen...
Yemeni protesters storm U.S. embassy in Sanaa: witnesses
(Reuters) - Hundreds of Yemeni demonstrators stormed the U.S. embassy in Sanaa on Thursday in protest at a film they consider blasphemous to Islam, and security guards tried to hold them off by firing into the air.
The attack followed Tuesday night's storming of the United States Consulate in Benghazi, where the ambassador and three other staff were killed. President Barack Obama said the perpetrators would be tracked down and ordered two destroyers to the Libyan coast, but there were fears protests would spread to other countries in the Muslim world.
Witnesses in Sanaa said the demonstrators smashed windows of the security offices outside the embassy before breaking through the main gate of the heavily fortified compound in eastern Sanaa. Security guards opened fire.
Film on al-Jazeera television showed demonstrators jumping up and down on the parapet of the building and scaling the walls.

Now the AP version...
SANAA, Yemen — Protesters angered by an anti-Islam film stormed the US Embassy compound in Yemen's capital, Sanaa Thursday.
The protesters were on the embassy's grounds but did not enter the building housing the offices.
Before storming the embassy compound, the demonstrators removed the embassy's sign on the outer wall and set tires ablaze. Once inside the compound, they brought down the U.S. flag and burned it.

Let us hope that this is all it amounts to, people letting of steam and doing vandalism instead of an organized attack.

So we have countries full of undereducated people who have almost no concept of free speech or artistic freedom. They assume that any article or film that comes out must be approved if not sponsored by the governmnet.
We have people in these countries that do understand freedom of the press, they are just happy to get the masses worked up.
Like the Danish Mohammed cartoons and US Koran burnings, these things would have bassed with barely a notice had people not made an active effort to rile up the masses over them.
And they seem to succeed every time, which only encourages them.

So we have countries full of undereducated people who have almost no concept of free speech or artistic freedom. ....
Notice though that the rioters number in only the hundreds (maybe a bit more in Egypt), and this is in nations made up of millions of people.
This suggests to me that these things, while not exactly "staged", are being intentionally orchestrated by agitators who are really trying to put themselves over as the power brokers in their societies.

Police shot in the air in an attempt to hold back the crowds, but failed to prevent them gaining access to the compound and setting fire to vehicles.
A number of people were reported to have been injured.

Security force reinforcements in Sanaa used tear gas, water cannon and live fire to drive back protesters.
They have now regained control of the Sanaa compound, but protests are continuing outside.

(CBS News) LONDON - There were clashes Thursday between anti-U.S. protesters and Yemeni police at the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa. CBS News sources say a large group of protesters reached the walled compound, but failed to breach any of the buildings inside the compound as police fired warning shots to try to disperse the crowd.
All U.S. embassies and diplomatic posts were ordered to increase security measures Wednesday by President Obama, following the deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on Tuesday.
The number of protesters in Sanaa was estimated between 3,000 and 4,000, according to sources speaking to CBS News partner network Sky News.

What I'm really enjoying about "Walking Dead" is how the TV series is an adaptation, but not an *exact* adaptation, of the comic book. Certain characters in the comic have died while the characters are still alive in the TV series, and vice versa.
While I don't expect a happily ever after -- Kirkman, if I recall correctly, has said that the show is about the end of the human race -- the show has its own set of surprises (coughSophiacough) different from the comic book storyline.

Yeah. Sometimes I walk our dogs through that subdivision (it's a lot larger than ours, and at the end of ours a guy has several large dogs that are sometimes loose)
So anyway, one day I'm walking our dogs there and I notice a HUGE construction project going on at one of the houses. I stopped and talked to a foreman there and he told me that they were doing a $200,000 addition/ renovation to the house for when she came home from the hospital

I basically have no problem with letting other nations compete based on wages: it should serve as our incentive to remain more productive.
But when we let other countries undercut us based on lax safety or environmental standards, we are not only shooting ourselves in the foot, we are doing these people no favor, either.

The analyst would be Ralph Peters. I saw that being promoted by some right wingers this AM.
My first question to them is who exactly is to be killed. No one has identified the groups yet. It might be an AQ affiliated group, a bunch of Khadafi dead-enders, or some heretofore unknown group. To go in guns a blazing without knowing who/what we're up against? That's just folly.
Obama has sent a FAST team, two warships (one of which is already on station), and a drone unit. That kind of response is sufficient to gather intel, guard the US diplomatic mission/personnel, and conduct operations against those responsible.
If they have sufficient intel, I would expect that in coming days and weeks we'll learn that those involved have been killed by UAV strikes, captured by the FAST team, or hunted down and captured by the Libyan government, which has pledged to assist the US efforts.
Obama's shown repeatedly the willingness to use force to go after those who have carried out attacks against the US and its interests around the world. Why would anyone on the right think he wouldn't do so in this case - when he even sent in our elite forces to go and kill/capture OBL in Pakistan. Oh wait, I can answer that question too - because it's all part of an ongoing narrative that the President somehow hates America, apologizes (when none was actually made) and that he wouldn't protect the nation.
His actions have spoken louder than words. Which is more than one can say about the current state of affairs for the GOP and the Mitt apologists/excusers.

I don't believe in coincidences. Nor do I believe what anyone involved the movie has had to say thus far - because much of what they've said can't be confirmed by anyone. Sam Bacile doesn't appear to have existed except as a pseudonym/agent provocateur. Morris Sedak is an agitator. Steve Klein has ties to extremist groups. The references to Jewish donors/backers/Israel is a misdirection play to try and bring the usual assortment of anti Jewish and anti-Israel sentiment to a head and to inflame passions even further.
Is it possible that AQ or another terror group took advantage of the protests in Egypt to use similar protests in Libya to carry out the deadly attacks there? Possibly, and the US government is looking at that possibility quite seriously.
The situation in Egypt also appears to have taken on a life of its own, and there are reports of protests elsewhere, including Yemen. This isn't necessarily by coincidence either.

Libya makes 'arrests' in deadly US consulate attack
BENGHAZI, Libya (AFP) - Libya has made several arrests over an attack on the US consulate in Benghazi that killed the ambassador and three other United States (US) nationals, the deputy interior minister told AFP on Thursday.
"The interior and justice ministries have begun their investigations and evidence gathering and some people have been arrested," Wanis al-Sharif said.
He declined to give any details of the number of people in custody or their backgrounds "so as not to hamper the smooth running of the investigation."

In that movie, Connery is playing a police officer. The tactic has some merit in this case. Granted, we don't know who exactly did this. Professional Islam Hater Robert Spencer has a screed out today that blames Ambassador Christopher Stevens for his own murder. Whatever else he said, Mitt Romney at least had the sense to speak appropriately about the ambassador and to give proper condolences. Robert Spencer, however, just goes in hating:
Christopher Stevens: Devoured by a Monster He Helped Create
When the Libyan uprising against Muammar Gaddafi began to gather steam in April 2011, American diplomat Christopher Stevens was determined to get there, but it wasn’t easy. “We arrived April 5th,” he later explained. “It was difficult to get there at the time. There weren’t any flights. So we came in by a Greek cargo ship and unloaded our gear and our cars and set up our office there” – in Benghazi, that is, the center of the uprising.
There were already numerous indications that the Libyan rebels were not the democratically-minded, America-loving pluralists of media myth. Rolling Stone magazine, of all publications, had warned in their March 21 issue that “America is now at war to protect a Libyan province that’s been an epicenter of anti-American jihad.”
That province was Cyrenaica, with its capital Benghazi. Rolling Stone noted that in 2008, “a West Point analysis of a cache of al Qaeda records discovered that nearly 20 percent of foreign fighters in Iraq were Libyans, and that on a per-capita basis Libya nearly doubled Saudi Arabia as the top source of foreign fighters.” The main source of those fighters – who mostly became jihad martyrdom suicide bombers, was Cyrenaica.
Stevens’ experience of Benghazi, however, was different – or at very least, the presence of al-Qaeda operatives among the rebels didn’t trouble him. According to a December 2011 piece in the State Department’s magazine State, “Stevens said the Libyans were genuinely grateful to the United States for supporting their aspirations for freedom, as demonstrated by the greeting the team received. The Libyans had hoisted British, French, Qatari and American flags at Freedom Square, the vast open area in front of the Benghazi courthouse.”
There is no way to tell whether any of the Libyans expressing their gratitude to Stevens in April 2011 were among those who brutally tortured and murdered him on September 11, 2012, but it’s entirely within the realm of possibility. Whatever the case, Christopher Stevens has now become the quintessential symbol of what U.S. foreign policy is doing vis-a-vis the global jihad, and of what ultimately will be the outcome for the U.S. if this continues. His story also demonstrates yet again how the establishment Left creates monsters that then devour their creators – as well as numerous bystanders.
Perhaps the most notorious example of relatively recent times is Jimmy Carter’s betrayal and abandonment of the Shah of Iran in 1979, in favor of the Ayatollah Khomeini. Khomeini and his fellow mullahs showed their gratitude to Carter by storming the U.S. embassy and taking hostages that they kept until Ronald Reagan’s first Inauguration Day. Carter had no one but himself to blame for his crushing defeat the previous November, for there would have been no hostages, and Khomeini would not have been in Tehran, had it not been for his efforts.

I'm not trying to set the bar for Romney. I was trying to preempt any comparison between what Romney said and what Spencer wrote. Spencer was considerably worse and I didn't want Mitt tarred by sentiments he clearly did not express.

Craziness is out already of course. Here's one.
US Ambassador To Libya Killing: False Flag To Revive Economy?
Disclaimer: I'm merely positing a question.
Web conspiracy theorists have been clacking away at their keyboards since the recent assassination of US Ambassador to Libya J. Christopher Stevens. Their common "false flag" theory is that the killing was conducted by Mossad at the behest of warhawk Israelis who want to stir up anti-American sentiment in the Middle East in order to convince us to join them in invading Iran. Admittedly, it is coincidental that the US and Israel are in an open feud over Iran, the White House declined Netanyahu's request to meet with Obama just days before the Ambassador's assassination, and the Libya killing has indeed resulted in a firestorm of anti-American sentiment throughout the Middle East. It's also coincidental that the killing took place just days before tomorrow's Federal Open Market Committee Meeting, where Bernanke is expected to announce QE3, which will expand the money supply and allow the federal government to increase borrowing. (For a war?)Many people theorize that one reason the Federal Reserve was created was to fund WWI, which the US coincidentally entered immediately after the Fed was founded. After all, money printing is good for wartime spending, which can provide an ailing economy a quick, temporary fix. (The country was mired in recession when the Federal Reserve Act was passed.) Something to think about: History has repeated itself, and, like the Great Depression, Washington and the Fed have prolonged this economic depression with their liquidity pumping and profligate spending, which has pushed us over the critical 90% debt to GDP ratio, the point at which debt has a negative impact on GDP. Liquidity pumping and the New Deal prolonged the Great Depression, but America's entry into WWII (Washington's last hope of reviving the economy?) did a good job of pulling us out of the economic malaise of the late 1930's (until the post-war recession of 1946 crashed the economy again). Could the central planners be planning to throw the Hail Mary and attempt to pull us out of this economic depression with another world war, this one centered around the Middle East? I'm not convinced, but it's something to think about.
Riiiiight. He's just asking questions and closing by talking about "central planners."

At this point, the motivations of the actors of the film or how it got made are besides the point. We need to know who was behind the overdub, and at the same time, do more to track down who was responsible for the Libya attack and provide increased protection to our other embassies and consulates.

Yes, but its a problem we're stuck with. His actions are not incitement, and the 1st Amendment does not permit action to be taken based on what people in other countries might do. The so-called "fighting words" exception (sometimes invoked in cases of inflammatory words leading to violence) cannot be stretched that far.

If the electoral college ended in a tie, then the House would indeed choose the president, and the Senate would choose the veep. So Fischer is correct in what would happen in that scenario, but it is a very unlikely scenario.
That said, if it happened the voting in the House is by state. So Illinois with 19 congresspeople has as much say as Montana has with 1. Most likely outcome would be Mitt Romney as President.

NY Times tries to track the origin of the mysterious film clip:
As the movie, “Innocence of Muslims,” drew attention across the globe, it was unclear whether a full version exists. Executives at Hollywood agencies said they had never heard of it. Hollywood unions said they had no involvement. Casting directors said they did not recognize the actors in the 14-minute YouTube clip that purports to be a trailer for a longer film. Production offices had no records for a movie of that name. There was a 2009 casting call in BackStage, however, for a film called “Desert Warrior” whose producer is listed as Sam Bassiel.

332 | makeitstop Thu, Sep 13, 2012 8:12:29am |
Your liberal media at work....
I’m not sure what’s up with this. But earlier this evening the Times ran a story entitled “Behind Romney’s Decision to Attack Obama on Libya.” The byline was David Sanger and Ashley Parker. The big news out of the story was that Romney himself had been the driver of last night’s decision making. That and a lot of other color and interesting news. As I write, it’s still that piece and lede that’s on the front page. But now it’s been replaced (same url) by an almost unrecognizable piece entitled “A Challenger’s Criticism Is Furiously Returned”, bylined by Peter Baker and Ashley Parker.
I first saw the story through a blast email. Then I saw it on the Times website. Then it was gone.
The thrust of the piece is dramatically different and, unless I’m missing something, leaves out this critical quote from a Romney senior advisor explaining their rationale. “We’ve had this consistent critique and narrative on Obama’s foreign policy, and we felt this was a situation that met our critique, that Obama really has been pretty weak in a number of ways on foreign policy, especially if you look at his dealings with the Arab Spring and its aftermath.”
So basically, we saw this thing happen. It fit with our campaign narrative. So we pounced.
The Times has some explaining to do.

I get your sentiment here Gus. But look at WWII..."loose lips sink ships"
What these people like Terry Jones are doing are putting our troops and our diplomats in danger, and they are doing it deliberately without regard for the lives of others.
They bear some responsibility for inciting these riots.
I dont know what the answer is, but it is not as simple as black and white.
We are not going to trample on the 1st Amendment for the sentiment of foreigners. If it's a question of safety then you increase the amount of forces in these backwards and volatile areas. Otherwise, we can simply close those facilities.

Wired is covering the embassy attack as well as any of the big boys-CNN, CBS etc.
A still-unknown number of American security personnel, dodging small arms fire and flame, attempted unsuccessfully to regain control of the main building 45 minutes after the attack began, retreating to an adjacent building annex. By 5:20 p.m. Washington time, Libyan security forces, assisted by what was described as a sympathetic local militia, regained control of the main building, and assisted an evacuation of the staff of approximately 25 to 30 to the annex. But by 6 p.m., the assailants began to attack the annex with small arms fire. It was there that two other, as-yet-unidentified U.S. nationals died.
It was not until 8:30 p.m. D.C. time that the attack was suppressed. But the security forces had lost track of Stevens.

However, I would emphatically support Youtube's heavy-handed suppression of hate speech of this sort. Assholes have no constitutional right to a third-party international soapbox.
Let them go back to wearing pants on their head and banging on old buckets on the street corner. That is a 1st-Amendment-relevant situation.

Your liberal media at work....
The Times has some explaining to do.
The US media, political campaigns, and pundits seem to act like the rest of the world is static, unchanging, and simply exists to react to our pronouncements. Thus you get to see these articles and statements "blaming" this or that administration for events like they are puppet masters able to make thousands of foreign nationals act via a single tweet or email.
This is the same sort of blindness and ignorance that leads to rose-tinted glasses views of what happens when you invade a foreign country to "liberate" it. Not to mention the "short victorious war" syndrome as well where foreign policy and war becomes an oversimplified extension of internal politics.

@jamisonfoser I’ll give Romney this: He successfully distracted me from his tax returns & Paul Ryan’s dishonest know-nothingism. That ain’t easy.
As part of its vetting, the Romney campaign required at least some of the candidates on the short list—including the eventual winner of the GOP veepstakes, Ryan—to submit fully 10 years of tax returns, according to a knowledgeable source.
The requirement was consistent with the past practices of both Republican and Democratic campaigns. Indeed, in 2008, Mitt Romney turned over 23 years of taxes to John Mccain’s campaign when he was under consideration to be the Arizona senator’s running mate.
...
In response to questions about the 10-year requirement, Romney campaign press secretary Andrea Saul declined comment. “We do not discuss the VP selection process,” she wrote in an email.

Wingnut Fail, Episode 2,945
GOP Rep. on Egypt, Libya Situation: Obama ‘Built That’
(CNSNews.com) – Representative Jeff Landry (R-La.) suggested the Obama administration bears some of the blame for the current crises in Egypt and Libya because it pursued policies that helped both regimes rise to power, adding that President Barack Obama had “built that.”
“In light of the recent developments, if the president were to come back and demand that the amount of money that's in that CR [continuing resolution] for Libya and Egypt be stripped out, that would be tremendous leadership because, remember, the regimes that are in place in those two countries came under his policies – he built that, okay,” Landry said at a press conference on Wednesday.
I didn't know 'the regimes' attacked the embassies. Or that his policies 'built that.' The ignorance is overshadowed only by the crass partisanship.

Doesn't he know he's not supposed to debate foreign policy? — Tuesday's assaults on the U.S. Embassies in Benghazi and Cairo have injected foreign policy into the Presidential campaign, but suddenly the parsons of the press corps are offended by the debate.
And the New York Post runs:
Romney: Facing down ridiculous press assault over his reasonable critique of Obama policies in the wake of Tuesday’s attacks.

The problem is that politicians have little choice but to promise a "short victorious war". How would people respond if a president said this instead:
This crisis demands we send our armed forces to remove that tyrant and stabilize Country X. But I must tell you not to expect swift progress. This is likely to take years and our forces will face an insurgency from the tyrant's supporters. Defeating that and giving a new government a chance will take time, and that is all we will ultimately be able to do. All armed intervention can ultimately do is by time for the new leaders of Country X to fix the political problems that left them in such a bad place.
A president who said that would likely find Congress cutting off funds for the intervention.

Yep. And if you don't have the political capital and will to do it right maybe you shouldn't do it at all. One reason Cheney poo-pooed the need for a 500,000 man occupation force for Iraq is that he knew it would not fly. So instead we got a half-ass operation, no "post-win" plan worth talking about, non-budgeted costs (covered by spending resolutions as things went along), and essentially built our own quagmire in the desert.

I see no reason the public should become more accepting of moronic quagmire nation-building bullshit like Vietnam or Iraq.

Apparently the new narrative being pushed by the wingnuts is that Romney overrode his campaign's midnight embargo because of the State Department's condemnation of the original Egyptian embassy tweets. They're trying to portray it as him calling attention to an effort to throw the embassy staffer "under the bus" in order to cover up the tweets.
And upon reflection, I could see that, but not in the way they imagine. I think the Romney campaign saw the tweets, saw the violence in Egypt and Libya, and thought "We can set the narrative on this!" They wrote the statement, thinking that the embassy tweets would still go unnoticed until after the embargo had passed. But when the State Department disavowed the tweet, the campaign panicked because they saw their line of attack disappearing, and hit the "panic" button.

You go with what you got... and Romney's got nothing to lose by lying - and continuing to lie. His base is running with it, those who know better are running with it, and they seem to think that it's a winning issue to show that Obama is 1) weak on foreign policy; (2) is an apologist for US; and (3) doesn't have US' best interests in mind because he's indecisive.
Each is a facet of the other, but it's all part of longstanding GOP claims against the Administration. And that's even though on the GWOT, the Obama Administration has largely continued Bush era policies and in many respects gone even more aggressively against terror groups, including killing OBL in the Abbottabad Pakistan raid. It's kinda tough to claim that the President isn't going after terrorists enough, when he was willing to invade a nominal ally with military forces to kill/capture OBL.
But that's what cognitive dissonance will do.

"Better dead than Red" was an anti-Communist phrase, possibly first used during World War II (in German as "Lieber tot als rot") and later during the Cold War by the United States. It was possibly coined by Nazi Germany's propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, in the end phase of the Second World War to motivate the German military and population to fight the Soviet Red Army to the end.

How about something historical? Look for something written by a Republican, something more than 5 years old. that way it will not seem 'suspicious' but on reading it might help open his eyes. An honest look at the war in Iraq called In the Red Zone by the late Steven Vincent might be a good place to start.

Rob Portman is an utter fucking piece of dogshit.
During the interview with Portman, CBS’s Norah O’Donnell explained to him the actual chronology of events, asking, “Do you know that?”
Portman conceded that he was unaware of how the events took place, but continued to defend Romney’s response in generally the same way. “No, I was not aware it was issued before there were any attacks,” Portman said. “I still think, Norah, you know, it implies that somehow the attacks could be justified by, again, a video.”
Romney's campaign must have a new talking point for when the speaker is confronted by unpleasant facts.

Sweetie, when you live in a state where the government routinely hides cash then says its broke and raises taxes to give their employees a raise and then lies to cover their tracks on a regular basis, pushes through multi-billion dollar projects even when the constituents vehemently vote no, you have about as much power with your vote as an ant pushing a locomotive. After 39 years of casting my vote and watching our politicians lie, cheat and steal and get away with it you do tend to get a bit jaded as to the power of the individual vote. You can be opposed to Bloomberg's soda ban without resorting to nonsensical Godwinning.
I'm opposed to his plans on several grounds. He chose the easiest route to try to reduce caloric intake, even though soda consumption is actually down in recent years. There are other beverages that contain far more calories, but aren't included in the ban. It applies only to fountain sodas 16oz or more.
It doesn't apply to coffee products (think DnD or Starbucks frappes), milk products - milk shakes at Carvel, or to supermarket sodas - 2liter bottles.
It also functions as a tax on soda - such that if someone had been buying soda in those sizes to share among multiple people, they'll be hit up for higher costs. It also ignores refills.
Obesity isn't a product of consumption choices alone. Sedentary lifestyle plays a major role - and we have too many sitting on their asses and not enough activity.
But it's also interesting that he chose soda, and not super sized portions of beef or other foods, which can be as bad or worse than soda. They might not be the empty calories of soda but they could be worse in some ways because of the fats, sugars, and other factors that can adversely affect health.
And what's to stop soda makers from putting vitamins and minerals in the sodas to offset the claims that they're empty calories. That's the dividing line here - juices aren't banned, but soda is, even though juices can contain as many calories as the same sizes of soda.

I quit drinking soda over 10 years ago and my beverage of choice is sparkling water. I once took a sip of 7-Up thinking it was seltzer and it tasted gaggingly sweet to me.
I really think people do not include soda and other beverages when they think about the calories they consume. Maybe they do stop and think if they drink beer or some other alcoholic beverage, or a milkshake or some Starbucks coffee-flavored ice cream thing.

Yes, but if you gun him down short of the targeted building then the damage to said building would be greatly lessened. And dead man's switches sometimes fail, too. Lastly is the fact that fact that a speeding van could contain a shooter team, as in Libya, instead of a VBIED.

It would be easy for the terrorists to rig up a "dead man's switch" in case the driver is disabled.

I liked traveller, but found that the character generation was the best part. I've always been partial to fantasy RPG over Sci-Fi.
Basic Fantasy is white box with D20 mechanics. I like it because it's very rules light and gets back to what I liked about RPGs, being creative and telling a story not wading through tons of supplemental info to look up some obscure rule.
I prefer Pendragon myself - but that's pretty genre specific. (And it's a variation on the older BRP in any case IIRC.)

Jews Must Be Converted: FRC Vice President
Jerry Boykin is the Executive Vice President of the Family Research Council and Tony Perkins’ right-hand man. FRC is hosting the far right conference that the House Majority Leader, who is Jewish, plans to address tomorrow.
Boykin, much like Bryan Fischer, has a penchant for saying exactly what’s on his mind – things which others know not to say, even when they’re thinking the same thing. While you may know Boykin from his prolific Muslim-bashing, he also has some interesting things to say about Jews.
In a 2009 speech on “Why We Must Stand with Israel,” Boykin spoke out against pastors who say that “the Jews don’t have to come to know Jesus,” complaining that those pastors were “destroying the efforts” to lead Jews to Christ:

E.W. Jackson and Jerry Boykin Call for a 'Mass Exodus' of Christians from the Democratic Party
On Monday, fringe Religious Right activist and failed Senate candidate E.W. Jackson hosted a press conference to "call for a mass Exodus of Christians from the Democrat party."
And Jackson kicked things off by doing just that, declaring that all Christians and Jews must leave the Democratic Party because "it has turned its back on us; it is time that we turn our back on it." As proof, Jackson cited the plank supporting marriage equality in the party platform, saying that by including this, the Democratic Party has declared that the Bible is a lie and the God is a liar:

One of the best things Pendragon has going for it at this point is a monster campaign source book covering the Arthurian period year by year from before Arthur's birth until the final battle. Makes a really good framework to hang a campaign from. (And the generational aspect of an 80 year long campaign is where Pendragon really shines.)

Ron Paul One Of The Most Corrupt Members Of Congress, Report Finds
Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul has been named one of the most corrupt members of Congress in a new report from the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.
The report says Paul "double-billed" his travel expenses a number of times over the last decade, meaning he may have been reimbursed for the same flights both under his official allowance as congressman, and by either non-profit groups under his control or his campaign committee.
The revelation would be ironic in part because Paul made fiscal responsibility a central tenet of his 2012 presidential campaign. The congressman celebrated a major victory in July when his bill to audit the Federal Reserve for greater transparency passed the House.
Paul's possible double-billing has been in the public eye since Roll Call first reported it in February, but CREW says there is no evidence Paul has repaid the money since.
A request for comment from Paul's office was not immediately returned.

Iran Press-TV has got it sorted out!
CIA, Mossad team up to insult Islamic values
He calls himself a religious leader, a “preacher,” this Terry Jones, the man responsible for blaspheming the prophet Mohammed. He has made threats before, burned the Holy Quran, spouted obscenities, demanded attention and has acted with demonic intent.
This week, Jones released a streaming video on his website attacking Islam and purposefully attempting to incite violence against the United States.
Reverend Jones ("the devil's mustache") is a major figure in Iranian conspiracist demonology. The article goes on to link him to the Mossad, the CIA, and Mitt Romney. The latter is somehow in charge of the two Great Satan organizations.
Btw, one of Lubbock's prominent weird-right leaders sometimes cites Iran Press-TV as a source when he is trying to vilify Jews and thinks nobody is checking his links.

The report of marines not possessing live ammo is probably false. The embassy would have all sorts of weapons and ammo and I seriously doubt the ambassador would have the authority to prohibit them. The decisions on this sort of thing are made much higher up the chain. Marines on embassy duty have very strict rules about use of force for good reason. Suppose the marines in Libya had been well armed and defended the assault. They could have killed dozens of attacker and protesters and the headlines in the Arab world would be about Americans slaughtering devout Muslims offended by insults to Mo'. The use of force is almost always left to local authorites although Marines could technically defend the Embassy under international law if ordered to do so. Even in Iran in the 80's the embassy had been attacked several times, we knew it was coming. Even then I don't think the Marines were ordered to use force to defend the embassy. It's very rare in modern history and I can think of a recent example of MSG's defending an assault on an embassy.

'We can read Arabic too!' US embassy tells Egypt's Brotherhood
US calls out Muslim Brotherhood after group officials tweet one thing in English and another in Arabic regarding its stance on ongoing anti-film demonstrations
....
The Muslim Brotherhood's official English-language Twitter account @Ikwanweb reposted a message from the group's deputy head, Khairat El-Shater, saying he was "relieved none of @USembassycairo staff was hurt" and expressing his hope that US-Egypt relations could weather the events.
This reconciliatory tweet, however, was posted while the Brotherhood's Arabic-language Twitter account and its official website were both praising the protests -- staged against a US-made film judged defamatory towards Islam -- and calling for a million man march on Friday.
One Arabic language article on the Brotherhood's site sported the headline 'Egyptians rise to defend the Prophet'.

Yeah, the one I know married a christian woman. It's like they are trying to find common ground and keep one foot in each. Probably to satisfy one family or family member.

I suggest we stop payment on any checks we've sent and send them nothing more. Fuck these assholes.
Well, I think this explains Obama's comments yesterday about the government of Egypt not necessarily being an ally. The MB is going to have to make a choice. They can have an unstable and dangerous terrorist shit hole or a stable and secure society. Not Both. They learned pretty quickly that the Islamists in Gaza and Sinai are going to be a problem. Now they're going to have to learn they can't incite religious mob violence against embassies. Let's hope the learn their lesson soon.

There's ostrich egg on Mitt Romney's face. Really how could he be so stupid? Oh that's right. He wanted to look tough because his poor widdle feelings were hurt at the DNC and he thought accusing the president of sympathizing with anti American rioters was the thing to do.
