Grover wants things to go back to when we were being heavily subsidized by the Crown (and the various peoples it had its boot pressed to the neck of).
Texas school board removes a Christian flag from its flagstaffs after a complaint was lodged by the FFRF. (People complained in a school board meeting about this from “out of state” folks rabble-rousing, and FFRF being “militant atheists” despite the overwhelming majority being Christians. FFRF only takes on issues when a local person makes a complaint.)
The school gave what they seem to think is a big F-U to FFRF by replacing the flag with a historical Texas Republic flag that says “Come and Take It.” (Turns out, historical secular flags are perfectly fine in front of schools, so I’m not sure what they think they’re claiming about winning here.) They say the flag is “temporary.

LARUE, TX (KLTV) -
After receiving complaints, a school district has removed a religious symbol from their campus.
On October 11, Lapoynor ISD received a letter from the Freedom From Religion Foundation requesting that officials remove the Christian flag from school grounds.
The letter sparked a debate within the district, and many students and parents were open about wanting the flag to stay.
The district’s superintendent told KLTV that the Christian flag has been removed and a Gonzalez flag from the Texas war for independence, which says “Come and Take It,” temporarily flies in its place.A group of students has been elected to decide which flag will permanently be installed.

For those white people, Showing Up for Racial Justice has created a Thanksgiving text hotline that can provide help for you when you find yourself trapped in a racist discussion about how horrible black people are and how their men plan to come take all the white women.
If you find yourself in one of these sticky situations, simply text “SOS” to 82623 and SURJ will send you “some key talking points that tend to come up in these tough conversations.”
The first (only so far) comment is someone using the service.

Considering the latest accusations are being done “anonymously,” I’d say it’s all the more reason to want to see this play out in an ethic committee investigation rather than in the papers. The man has a right to face his accusers and I believe that that should be the proper way forward.

The fact that the latest accusations are anonymous should raise suspicion. This isn’t a case where we’re picking and choosing who we choose to believe, it’s a man who is now being accused from the shadows. We should not be supporting in any fashion such a scenario, because it runs the very real risk of the accused being deprived of their rights.

The country has been through far worse than Trump.
While I cannot know how the investigation is going with Robert Mueller, and the investigation with New York’s attorney general, it seems that Donald Trump is not going to get through a complete presidency.
It took two years from the time that a minor almost unnoticed hotel break-in led to Richard Nixon’s resignation.
As the investigation takes more and more of Trump’s time, he will be doing less and less. In addition, fighting against such things as subpoenas and warrants costs real money (as noted above).
Probably the worst thing that could have happened to the Trump family is that Donald Trump won the election. They have distorted the GOP so far they are now defending child molesters in their attempt to maintain their power. (While Roy Moore may win the special election in Alabama, the GOP will be painted with the word “paedophiles” for a long time to come.)
re: #66 retired cynic
I was in the JFK generation, but I wonder if our road didn’t start with J Edgar Hoover, and his suitcase full of issues and nastiness.
The Kennedy and Hoover roads of course intersect at various points.
Hey, it can reasonably be argued that the current situation started at Jamestown, or when that colony was chartered in London, or when the first African slaves were brought here, or if one believes these things, in the Garden of Eden. But however long the road may have been, it seems to me that at a certain point it hit a steep incline and, after a few ups and downs, recently went over a cliff.

I don’t share that feeling. After all, much of the domestic progress we experienced occurred under Lyndon Johnson. It was the election of Reagan, followed by the Gingrich “revolution”, that has led inexorably to the disastrous situation we are in today, . But it’s premature to give up. As any scientist will say, a particular weather event does not confirm (or disprove) the hypothesis. You have to look at weather over a longer period than one year — and that’s what supports the theory that the planet is warming.

I might argue James Buchanan (the Civil War started on his watch) was significantly worse. Warren Harding ran the government like it was his personal piggy bank. Ronald Reagan’s administration funded an illegal war in Nicaragua by circumventing Congress selling weapons and aircraft parts to sanctioned Iran. (Reagan’s administration had the most indictments and convictions of any presidency.)
Trump was elected in a time of peace and prosperity. Buchanan was elected when the nation was facing an existential crisis. It’s unfair to compare the two men given the threats they actually faced. In fact, there is no doubt in my mind that if Trump faced any of the challenges of the previous occupants, he would have made each situation far worse than his predecessors.
I still recall my belief in the 1980’s that Japan was going to dominate the world economy; experts predicted they were the future; their stock market out-performed ours as did their manufacturing. Yet within a few years, they faded and we regained our standing.
Either we will emerge from this as a stronger nation or we be relegated to the dustbin of history.

Happy Thanksgiving, O Lizards!
May you all have plenty to be thankful for, on this Turkey Day
Here in Mythical Time Zone we have a bit over half an hour to go.
That said, this is a post I put up last year to the closed atheism discussion group I am the group owner of over at Yahoo.
Pray, from Merriam-Webster: (transitive verb) 1: entreat, implore —often used as a function word in introducing a question, request, or plea
Today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States, a Federal holiday with long tradition.
Atheists of course pray. We just do not pray to or on behalf of gods. On Thanksgiving Day, I make my own entreaty of thanksgiving to those who share the world with me.
________________________________________
I am thankful to those farmers and ranchers, and their families and farmhands, who produced the food we will eat this afternoon and every day.
I am thankful to the truckers and railroad operators who help bring it to market, and to the warehouse and market employees who make it available.
More generally:
I am thankful to those who now serve or have served in the Armed Forces, the Veterans Administration, the police and sheriff’s department, the fire brigade, and emergency medical services, who strive to protect, serve, and keep us all safe.
I am thankful to physicians, nurses, technicians, researchers, and hospital and clinic staff that work tirelessly to keep us healthy.
I am thankful to our civil servants who strive to keep our society functioning, whether they are clerks, teachers, prosecutors, judges, librarians, mechanics, electricians, or any other job that keeps civil society civil.
I am thankful for the scientists, explorers, and researchers that have gone before over thousands of years, to elevate society with technology that allows us to go from huddling in caves to walking on the Moon.
I am thankful to my neighbours and friends, who every day support and welcome me in the community.
Finally,
I am thankful to my parents, wife and son, without whose love my own light would be diminished.
All those and many others deserve my thanks on this and every day.

I’ve been listening to a fair amount of AC/DC as of late, and I’m impressed at the rock ‘n’ roll they produced. I’ve always joked that the easiest job in rock ‘n’ roll is bassist for AC/DC, and I still joke about it. But the simplicity of their arrangements were always slickly produced and did a damn good job of making you tap your foot and bang your head. The Bon Scott years, especially, yielded fun fun rock ‘n’ roll. And Malcolm Young was the anchor to it all. May he rest in peace.

Most White Evangelicals Attribute Intense National Disasters to the Apocalypse, Not Climate Change
While 62 percent of total respondents ascribed the cause of recent natural disasters to climate change, 49 percent also thought biblical “end times” were the cause. For white evangelical Protestants, these numbers basically reversed — 77 percent pointed to the apocalypse, and just 49 percent attributed extreme weather to climate change (the numbers add up to more than one-hundred because people could offer more than one cause). This fatalistic view of the impacts caused in part by burning fossil fuels could influence the national policy responses to the problem.

I was in the JFK generation, but I wonder if our road didn’t start with J Edgar Hoover, and his suitcase full of issues and nastiness.
Now I read of rumors to the extent that the Mafia had photos of him and his “male companion”. So it would make sense that if Hoover was unable to do anything against organized crime, he would have to take on Commies and leftists and union organizers to show that he was doing something to earn his keep.
The end result is that America has been dominated or under the influence of organized crime ever since. And America is now ruled by an organized crime family with connections to Russian oligarchs.

So, seeing in the news that the search for the vanished Argentinian submarine, ARA San Juan (S-42) is ongoing, though there’s been a possibly ominous twist:
Argentina’s navy said on Wednesday it was investigating an unusual noise detected in the South Atlantic hours after it last communicated with a missing submarine, but refused to confirm whether it indicated an explosion.
Navy spokesman Enrique Balbi told reporters a “hydro-acoustic anomaly” was detected in the ocean almost three hours after the last communication with the vessel on November 15, 30 miles (48 kilometers) north of its last known position.
Asked if the noise could have been an explosion, the spokesman declined to speculate, saying only: “It has to be corroborated and looked into.”

It could have been an implosion — massive structural failure of the pressure hull. IIRC they are 70 m deep. Or the hydrogen gas from the batteries could have ignited.

Greets and saluts from the Resistance in the NYC metro area on this fine Thanksgiving morning. The annual parade kicks off in a couple of hours and then most folks head off to their traditional family gatherings.
None of that really changes from year to year. It’s like clockwork.
So of course Trump tries to take credit for it last night, and this morning tries to take credit for an economy he inherited and ongoing growth and low unemployment trajectories that continue the path started under Obama (rate and trends are all continuing what Obama did, so it’s not Trump - but Obama who we should be thankful for).
Meanwhile, the NYT is hoping that the courts will stop Trump from gutting net neutrality. That’s a fool’s errand, mostly because Trump’s busy remaking the judiciary with the right wing extremists who aren’t qualified to sit in judgment over anyone.
The same courts Trump and GOP are packing with like minded extremists? This is what happens when you play magic balance fairy between a qualified candidate and a completely unqualified one whose background was always suspect.
— lawhawk (@lawhawk) November 23, 2017
Trump’s a danger to everyone and everything. His policies undermine the very people who supported him like coal miners (watch environmental and occupational safety get gutted within first year - all to give mine owners bigger profits and miners see their conditions deteriorate while jobs continue disappearing). That there are a handful of new jobs (700?!) in coal mining isn’t going to bring back an industry that now employs around 50,000 nationally. That number will continue shrinking because it doesn’t take as many people to mine the same amount of coal it once did - and we don’t need as much coal as we once did because other energy sources are cheaper, more efficient, effective, and less polluting.
But the thing that irks me is that every last one of these Trump tweets is all about him.
It’s not about us.
It’s that he’s done these “things” for us and we need to be thankful to him for those things. Never mind that he’s done nothing to shape or affect those things (the economy), but he’s manipulating the media and lying to his base to keep his meager supporters in line. They’re gullible enough to buy it and the strong economy Trump inherited is the only thing truly propping him up. Any hiccup in the economy, and Trump wont be able to claim that either (though he’ll go back to blaming Obama for it - just you watch).
I’ve said it before and will again: Grover Norquist’s work in a just universe would barely earn him enough to rent a basement apartment in Peoria. It’s appalling that he can survive based on issuing “no-tax” pledges to politicians.

Various media keep saying a week, which would have run out yesterday. The Argentine navy says 7 to 10 days, which seems more likely.

It also depends on the kind of damage that left the sub in the condition of being unable to surface or signal for help.

33 sailors were rescued from this then-new sub after it sank in 243 feet of water during a test dive. 26 others died in the initial accident. This operation was right out at the gleaming razor edge of technology at the time. The new McCann rescue chamber, which is still in service today as a backup system, was lowered from a salvage ship and mated with the sunken boat’s hatches to pull the survivors to safety. Divers who placed the chamber and its guide lines used heliox mixture, the first major operational deployment of this system.
Swarms of demonically controlled metal monsters invade the streets of the city. They roar and scream and paw the ground, seeking the destruction of every living thing. They compete and jostle and collide, sometimes destroying each other in their reckless lust for human blood.
The toll mounts and the authorities, outnumbered hundreds to one, are helpless to stem the onslaught. The hideous spectacle strikes fear and revulsion into the heart of every rational being.
Those who value their lives take refuge where they can. They huddle in fear, and pray in silent despair for divine intervention to strike the monsters down and end the nightmare.

This court jamming scheme scares the $%^&* out of me!
Morning Lizards and Happy Thanksgiving.
I hate to be the Debbie Downer here, but the Argentine sub and her crew is for all practical purposes lost. There is really no way to sugar coat it. As Lawhawk pointed out, the main key to survival is hull integrity. If the hull was breached, you would have at least one compartment flooded. If that compartment happened to contain the battery, well that’s all she wrote . Second consideration is at what depth did she bottom out. If it was shallow enough to keep the hull from imploding, you have to factor in the angle and speed of impact for additional hull damage. If it was beyond her crush depth, well that would explain the loud “explosion”. Second thing to take into account is her atmosphere. If she bottomed out with minimal damage and at least one compartment un-flooded there might be a slim chance if the atmosphere has remained uncontaminated by smoke or other chemicals (Sulfuric acid doesn’t play well with salt water). CO2 build up is another factor. If they can’t remove the CO2, they’re screwed. Think Apollo 13. That 7-10 days estimate is probably based on an undamaged system with minimum functionality. Then we have the very real possibility of hypothermia. No power means no heat. These are just a few things that have a direct bearing on survivalbility and as thing now stand, it’s not looking good.

I work in mass market retail…my career with this company is old enough to drink, to say nothing of me…let’s just say I’ve had a bad day and was unable to make it to my scheduled breaks (approx 5 am, the first relief I would have for what I was doing would be 7 am…I was scheduled to leave at 7:30, so fck you sideways boss…)
I had words to say to my department manager…summed up below
Boss: You knew what today was, you had the chance to take your breaks
Me: I know what today was, I was too busy.
Us: BLAHBLAHBLAH
Boss: You knew what today was.
Me: I know, did you?

Come on @GroverNorquist lets play! Pretend I never studied economics. Explain to me the optimal corporate and personal income tax rates and how deviations from them impact the economy.
this is unarguably the wrong question
its the cart before the horse question
first question has to be how much money does the government need. - ie what does it have to pay for. these are the real policy debates. arguing about what is and is not the fed gov’ts role(s). you cant discuss how much to tax until you know how much tax the govt needs to raise. you dont spend what you raise, you raise what you need to spend.
the second question is what’s the number the rate will be based on - ie what is taxed. some definition of gross income, an “adjusted” income, wealth, or something else?
the third question is who pays how much - is it flat, progressive, proportional, fair, reasonable etc?
the “rate” question must be last because it is isolated and meaningless without the context of the first three. after you know the answers to the other 3, the rate or rates are whatever amount covers the first question.
any rate too low causes deficits - a separate, reasonable, discussion. any rate too high leads to surpluses. also not a bad idea - sometimes you save money for future needs - think infrastructure, fema, and other unanticipated disasters
To all lizards throughout the world: Happy Thanksgiving!

And a related issue: what is counted as income and is different income treated differently? Why should labor be subject to both the highest level of income taxes and and FiCA taxes, while dividends, carried interest, and capital gains are taxed at a much lower rate?
Ask a Republican if he or she wants to live in low rent housing. Or drive an under maintained car. Fly old creaky airliners to and from. Wear old clothes or shoes.
The answer will be no, no, no. So, I say, why would you want low rent governance?

We have utterly lost the most basic consensus we once enjoyed as a nation about what the federal government is expected to do in general. Defend, infrastructure, and regulate. Then there was what some thought it should do. Or should not, in a far more mild manner than these days.
Now we have a fight, us v them. We must fight to tell them what the government will not be permitted to do. Rolling back enviro, discrimination and biz regulations to put corporations in charge of those very things. Engage in compromises like putting a pedophile over a qualified democrat for high office.
Happy Thanksgiving, one and all, no matter where in the world you may find yourself.
We’re having a Thanksgiving party at the school tonight, so I’ll be back tomorrow after work.

thats true and it all falls squarely in the first question
i think the debate over what government does and doesnt, should and shouldnt is constant and never ending becuase the world is constantly changing. that’s the point of politics and statesmanship. we should always be steering and correcting the ship. stuff happens, stuff pops up. new issues arise, old ones fade.
now we conflate governments purposes with tax rates and never have full throttled fair arguments about either. they think if they shrink receipts then we will have to shrink spending. that ignores the deficits that they hate, or is it love, or is it dont care about?

We’ll be low key here, just 6 of us since daughter and son-in-law will be with his family this year. We’ll still do the turkey with all the trimmings and have a nice time.
Meanwhile I will be truly thankful if I can get my computer fully updated.
They huddle in fear, and pray in silent despair for divine intervention to strike the monsters down and end the nightmare.A new Stephen King novel? A bad science fiction scenario?

The turkey can be hit-or-miss with Mrs. Fish’s family. Depending on who prepared it, it can have great flavor and be well-cooked… or it can be dangerously underdone and leave everybody suffering for the entire weekend. I think I’ll stick to the ham, myself.
re: #59 William Lewis
I’ve said it before: the best tax rate existed in 1959. It’s been all mistakes since.
Except thanks to the complications of the code, very few paid close to that rate. In the 1980’s, the new CEO of the small firm that employed me paid only 5% in taxes. That was the reason that the AMT was created and that’s why the GOP is targeting that provision of the law.

Can you imagine how Fox and the Republicans would have treated this if Hillary were President? Non-stop broadcasts on her treason and impeachment proceedings underway.
Tears, and part of the MBF. A friend on the book of the face:
I stopped at a fast food restaurant to grab something to eat before I went back to the office and listened to NPR on the radio while I ate, of the detailing of the investigation by troops which had entered a Bosnian or Croatian town only to discover that all the women in that little village had been murdered and their bodies had been thrown in the village well by the Serbian Army which had billeted there.
Prior to murdering these woman, the Serbs had rounded up all the males- youngsters, young men and old, marched them to the outskirts of the village and executed them.
They then forced the women to have sex with them, prepare meals and take care of their needs, before slaughtering them all and throwing their bodies into the village well with an ill attempt to hide the atrocity.
I had previously seen a photo of a young blond man, Bosnian, about the age and appearance of my son at the time, kneeling in the road of his Bosnian village, begging for his life, just before he was executed for being a Muslim, and tears fell both times.
I had a couple I was representing in a personal injury case , they were from the disintegrating Yugoslavia, he a Serb and she a Croat, and at each meeting, I wanted to ask, “What the fu-k is wrong with your people?” But, I didn’t.
Bill Clinton was President and sent American Troops to the suckhole of the Baltics where the last two world wars had their conception, because there must be something dreadfully wrong with the DNA of the humans in that area, and eventually the atrocities were forced by arms to come to an end.
I listened to Katy Turac ask if Bill Clinton shouldn’t have resigned over his scandals with women, and I thought, Sweetie, there are Bosnians and Croats living today that worship his name.
Ratko Mliac has been convicted today, in a World Court, for his crimes against humanity as a military leader in the Serbian Army and as it is in history, some of us see history as a tapestry and others only see the snapshots.

Anyway, I brought this up late in the previous thread, so I’ll mention it again here. As I feared, more women have made accusations against Al Franken. Yes, he has the right to stay in the Senate and be subjected to an ethics investigation, and possibly a public hearing with testimony. But if he chooses that route, its going to get ugly.
anonymous accusations. again, hand on the ass kind of stuff. I don’t want to sound morally relativistic, but if this were what Roy Moore was accused of, I’d be inclined to also think it’s pretty weak tea.

Looking at some early Thanksgiving prayers. This one makes me wish Samuel Lane had been at the WH press briefing to respond to Sarah Huckabee Sanders:
On Thanksgiving Day 1793, 75-year-old Samuel Lane was thankful for:

- For my Bible and Many other good and Useful Books, Civil & Religious Privileges, for the ordinances of the gospel; and for my Minister.
- For my Land, House and Barn and other Buildings, & that they are preserv’d from fire & other accidents.
- For my wearing Clothes to keep me warm, my Bed & Bedding to rest upon.
- For my Cattle, Sheep & Swine & other Creatures, for my support.
- For my Corn, Wheat, Rye Grass and Hay; Wool, flax, Cider, apples, Pumpkins, Potatoes, Cabbages, turnips, Carrots, Beets peaches and other fruits.

and as i said above their method is to first strangle receipts (lower taxes). they think that inevitably must lead to slashing budgets. after thats done when there isnt enough money left to pay for even the meager parts of govt they want, up go the deficits, which all of a sudden dont matter.

I don’t know. In some jurisdictions, couldn’t grabbing a woman’s ass without consent be sexual assault? I’m genuinely asking because I want to understand the technicalities involved.

And then that money and attitude gets passed down protected for their families to carry on that thinking.

It’s what happens when your political/economic philosophy starts from a conclusion and works backwards to justify that conclusion, rather than starting from what you want society to look like and figuring out how to make that work.
re: #236 ObserverArt
You are correct; that is how they think.
re: #222 Blind Frog Belly White
DINGDINGDING!! We have a winner! Libertarians and Libertarian-leaning Conservatives want to live in the modern America that Liberalism built and not pay for it. They want roads, they want police, fire, and national defense, they want disaster relief (if the disaster hits them); they don’t want people begging in the streets, they don’t want the economy going through the cycles of boom and crash it went through before 1930, they don’t want poor people dying in the streets, they don’t want old people living in cardboard boxes under bridges.
They just have no idea how to achieve that without the modern state, and they get to believe their silly fantasies that they can have all this and no taxes because nobody will ever actually put that into action.
Years ago I read a book about the Long Term Capital Management crisis that almost brought down the entire world economy. IIRC, one of the key employees was basically a libertarian Ayn Rand dudebro. He complained about government until it was the only thing that stood between him and personal bankruptcy and total chaos — and then he wanted help.
If we faced a similar crisis today, I don’t think Trump would be of particular help though the Goldman Sachs crooks in his Cabinet may actually know what to do.

this is a really huge gorilla sitting on an elephant in the govt room - no forward thinking or planning
a prudent government would prepare for at least some eventualities because
you cant just pass emergency current year funding or post-hoc finance every natural disaster, or need for infrastructure repair, or…so many hundreds of other examples.
while not specifically identifiable, the inevitability of something is reasonably assured.
but even broach the subject of a current year surplus set aside or saved for the future? forget it. cant even get them to pay the current bills.

anonymous accusations. again, hand on the ass kind of stuff. I don’t want to sound morally relativistic, but if this were what Roy Moore was accused of, I’d be inclined to also think it’s pretty weak tea.
I think we men seriously underestimate how offensive and demeaning women find it for their body parts to be considered men’s playthings, including their butts. If in fact Franken made a habit of grabbing the butt of any woman he felt inclined to molest, he’s got to go. The Democratic Party needs to make a stand that treating women this way is not acceptable and will no longer be tolerated.

Grover expects to live in a modern society without paying his fair share to maintain the society. But as I said earlier, does anyone still take him seriously? Maybe we should all encourage him to move to a paradise like Somalia — no government there.
Grover is expressing his ultimate end goal which of course will never be achieved since the Republican base expects a large military and depend on Social Security and Medicare. It does show, however, that there will never come a time when the GOP’s primary policy objective is something other than cutting taxes on the rich.

Conservative Researcher Set To Disprove Liberalism Forever
Seeking to prove that a conspiracy of astronauts fabricated the shape of the Earth, a California man intends to launch himself 1,800 feet high on Saturday in a rocket he built from scrap metal.
Assuming the 500-mph, mile-long flight through the Mojave Desert does not kill him, Mike Hughes told the Associated Press, his journey into the atmosflat will mark the first phase of his ambitious flat-Earth space program.
“atmosflat” hehehe :-)
Hughes’s ultimate goal is a subsequent launch that puts him miles above the Earth, where the 61-year-old limousine driver hopes to photograph proof of the disc we all live on.
“It’ll shut the door on this ball earth,” Hughes said in a fundraising interview with a flat-Earth group for Saturday’s flight. Theories discussed during the interview included NASA being controlled by round-Earth Freemasons and Elon Musk making fake rockets from blimps.
and soros. don’t ever forget to blame soros!
Hughes promised the flat-Earth community that he would expose the conspiracy with his steam-powered rocket, which will launch from a heavily modified mobile home — though he acknowledged that he still had much to learn about rocket science.

I think I’ve said this before, but it’s as if we’re rapidly approaching the opposite of a “sweet spot” where too much tech is as bad as too little. That is, prior to the advent of photo/video/instant communication, it was easy to take advantage of ignorance and lack of info to make people believe ridiculous things. But now, with photos being so easy to fake, conspiracy theorists can:
a) create their own convincing forgeries
b) convince marks and suckers that real evidence is forged
I shudder to think of what will happen once video becomes as easy to “shop” as photos.

It’s not really tolerated, more ignored. Most women, if asked, will tell you they don’t really want that kind of attention, they just feel powerless to do anything about it. Slap the guy? Arrested for assault. Tell somebody? Get told to suck it up, it’s just a harmless bit of fun, “locker room talk”. That’s if anybody actually takes you seriously. It’s disgusting and infuriating, but it’s true - women are forced to endure it simply because they have no viable recourse.

The F-35 should have never been built in the first place - it’s like what many accuse Multics of being of - a horse being designed by a committee and resulting in a camel.
But Multics did get one thing right that everybody else got wrong - they made damn sure security was included as a core requirement - which ARPANET (now known as the Internet) didn’t.

We went to see them blow up the balloons for the Macy’s parade last night. Oy.
We exited the subway at the Museum of Natural History (78th Street and Central Park West), at which point we had to walk up to 82nd Street and head west to Columbus Avenue, and then walk south to 76th Street, and then east back to Central Park West for final approach - at which point a cop told us that from there it was another hour’s walking, at which point chances were good that they’d end the whole thing and tell everyone to go home.
And it was fucking cold. And windy.
So we bailed and caught an Uber to an Italian joint on Columbus and I had a Bolognese to die for, then across the street to a bar full of rude, drunken millenials doing bad karaoke for a beer and to watch the end of the Knicks game. And about halfway through the beer, the caravan of floats came up the street and swung around for assembly for the parade.
And after finishing our drinks, we walked back to the subway, where I finally got some balloon pics!
