lol I hear ya. I'm a huge Angus Young fan. The Zeppelin stuff, I only listen to the odd songs they never play and not too much of it, but I was trying to think of good ole blues rock.
I have an old 73 or 74 Gibson and a Yamaha folk guitar. My mom used to play the Gibson for her kids when she taught. It's a beautiful instrument.

I do wish Chicago would host the Olympics. But with the 2012 games in London there was zero chance the IOC would send the 2016 games to the USA. Pinning the "failure" on Obama is stupid on anyone's part.

Lauding every casualty in hopes of scoring political points. Every death and suicide bombing from Iraqi "freedom fighters" was pointed to by lefty blogs as a sign that Bush's war was lost and we must surrender. The Dem Candidates were even forced to campaign on the issue of surrender in Iraq, each candidate trying to retreat faster than the other. The wanted nothing more than defeat in Iraq until Obama too over. Luckily Bush won the the war before Obama took office and the lefties didn't mind victory so much after the election.

Not content with that, the reporter then breathlessly imagined the level of excitement for the expected release of 1000 prisoners demanded by Hamas for the live body.
As CBC saw it, the Palestinian viewpoint was the focus of the story with Schalit a minor sidebar.
What a travesty.

Although a reasonable case can be made for the anti war movement (just like the Tea Parties) they are/were essentially and anti-American movement. Lauding every casualty in hopes of scoring political points. Every death and suicide bombing from Iraqi "freedom fighters" was pointed to by lefty blogs as a sign that Bush's war was lost and we must surrender. The Dem Candidates were even forced to campaign on the issue of surrender in Iraq, each candidate trying to retreat faster than the other. The wanted nothing more than defeat in Iraq until Obama too over. Luckily Bush won the the war before Obama took office and the lefties didn't mind victory so much after the election.
There were a lot of posts on lefty blogs recognizing the troops sacrifice when they were killed in action too. There still are. Note the DKos IGTNT series.
I think many didn't think of it as surrender because they never saw the war as valid in the first place, ie since there were no WMDs we should just go home. I begrudgingly admitted that leaving to soon would leave a humanitarian nightmare in our wake and supported our remaining their until things could marginally stabilized.

I never claimed they were. I just objected to the way KT was using stances only held by the fringe to exemplify the entirety of the left in general.
I'll restate it. The majority of the left did not want the US to "lose" in Iraq. That's just hogwash. They wanted to minimize troop losses by ending what they saw as an unjust war as soon as possible. I think a lot of it hinges around if you saw the was as legitimate or not too. If it's an illegitimate war, you can't win or lose it. I supported our continued presence because I thought the humanitarian cost would be greater if we left than if we stayed.

I was playing on "clean things up" and the commercial cleaning product Ajax. Ajax is a cool programming framework that, yes, when properly implemented can do some pretty slick things. Well, it can be quite a detrimental effect at the polls if they force an extreme candidate's victory in a primary, and then their chosen candidate loses in the general election.
I still think Limbaugh and his ilk helped GW Bush to win the GOP primary in 2000, which proved to have pretty negative consequences for the GOP and possibly the country.
Sports analogy. The cheerleaders do not play nor win or lose the game. Bush took the nomination because he was more effective at doing so, just like all the rest. Silly to attribute these things to some external force. I give you Obama vs. Hillary. The best man won.

Where are those posts and people now? For some reason the change in attitude bothers me, because I think they were exploiting death for political gains. I won't judge it as patriotic or not, but you have to question the motives of the anti-war movement when the entire movement seems to have fallen off the face of the planet when Obama was sworn in.

Fair enough, I have read several of those IGTNT diaries. In my opinion, there is seems to be less focus on the causalities of war today on DKos than two years ago. Less front page stories for sure, and less recs for the IGTNT ones. But on the other hand, the surge in Iraq has been a success and fortunately less soldiers are dying in war than two years ago.

There is one area I respect DKOS in: they kick ass on the conservative blogosphere because they pay attention to every essential of every congressional race, and they support their candidates. Don't make the mistake of thinking that just because I'm completely fed up with the loonies on the right -- and I am -- that it means I'm suddenly OK with saying "screw them" about fellow Americans who are horribly murdered.
I give Daily Kos some credit for cleaning up the craziness at their site. They have cleaned it up in large part. You don't see the ugly antisemitic diaries that used to be very common.
I appreciate the sane people who I may not agree with on every political point, but who aren't deranged. And I'd like to see more dialog between the left and right, and less demonization.
But I repeat -- this is a two-way street. Just because I don't want to join forces with the religious right and the paleocons and the fascists, doesn't mean I'm suddenly just fine with the ultra-leftists.

And I registered over here once things started looking more moderate. I registered over there when I was volunteering for Harold Ford's (who is not a progressive) Senate campaign. just to keep in touch other people who were volunteering in 2006. I never claimed to agree with the front page or half the diarists. If you're a volunteer for a democratic cause, no matter where you are on the spectrum, it's still an indispensable site. It's a major organizational hub. I don't really care what kos has to say and seldom read him.

Both parties have to pander to their extremes and they seem to take the center for granted. A center democrat and a center republican probably have more in common with each other than they do with the extreme elements of their respective parties.
That is probably never going to change as long as there are only two viable political parties.

I remember My Moonbat Brother (MMB™) explicitly approving the Kos "screw them mercenaries" comment. That was when I realized what a big family problem I have when it comes to politics.
Are there legitimate questions about the use of private contractors to perform military duties in combat zones? You bet there are.
Is there room in my friend's list for someone who speaks approvingly of what happened to those guys? Fuck no. Unfortunately you can't pick your family.
Michael Moore lost me forever with his "Minuteman" statement around the same time. I'd probably agree with most of what he says in "Sicko" - I'm never going to watch it, just like I skipped "Fahrenheit 9/11" (one of the dumbest movie rip-off titles ever) and will never see his new flick about capitalism.
Kos could apologize for that comment, and I'd respect him for it. I don't think he has the wit to know he did anything wrong.

Blasphemy! You are obviously not native to the US. Up until the mid-90's, legislation was made like sausage, and everybody gave a little. Then the R's got control under Gingrich and DeLay in '94, and things went bonkers. Everything became partisan. There was no viable middle. Voters may want middle ground, but it doesn't exist in the Legislature.
We don't have a parliamentary system here, where proportional voting (and the majority of Americans on this board just went "whaa?") is allowed in national elections. It reinforces the two party system in this country.
