I'm kinda old fashioned, I still buy music at the brick-and-mortar store across the street. About a year ago I went in there, and spoke to my friend, the proprietor, asking whether he had anything by Joe Bonamassa in stock.
He says, "Is he one of those wailey-wailey guitarists?"
Me, "Uh, I suppose so."
Him, "I'm not really into those wailey-wailey guys. Now, my drummer--oh, wait. He's not my drummer, I'm his guitarist--he likes them. Hey, I think I ordered some for him. Let me see here..." and he pulls out a Joe Bonamassa CD. I bought it.

She might be fine on that, but I'm not so crazy about this:
For the sake of keeping fewer than a dozen evildoers out of Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal and his legion of supporters in the Pentagon, Congress and the media insist we need to bring increase U.S. troop levels to over 100,000, and the overall coalition force level to a half-million, the number of troops we had on the ground at one point in Vietnam.

That was certainly the exception to the norm. I'm sure others can be found. To paint the entire left as "wanting to lose in Iraq" is using an overly broad brush by far. I knew socialists who sent care packages.

I can appreciate that and I agree about Clapton. Glad to hear he's got his groove back heh
Like I say with the Stones, just a matter of taste. Janis was really my favorite blues singer... talk about played out! To me, she became her music. Those who have such great talents sort of meld into whatever instrument they use if that makes sense.
the Stones, nearly single handedly, resurrected the careers of Bo Diddly, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters and others and brought this American treasure of RandB and blues etc back from near obscurity...for this alone they deserve credit

Uh not quite. Not by a longshot. What is it with the bombastic analogies here today. Jessh.
When there was a "national embarrassment or failure" in Iraq, there's a good chance someone's loved one got killed in action. Anyone who was thrilled with that was a sick bastard. Chicago losing their hopeless from the start bid for the 2016 Olympics is not nearly so catastrophic.

re: #75 Killgore Trout
Why would the wingnuts cheer about America not getting the Olympics? This wasn't an Obama policy, Bush started the proposal. They're only happy because it was an American failure on Obama's watch. It's really that simple. Look how excited they get about bad financial news. The worse the better. You'll never see good financial news on a right wing site. It's not what they want to see.
You can't reason with them. They learned early this year from Rush Limbaugh that hoping for the failure of Obama's policies or presidency is the standard desire for anyone that wishes to pass the litmus test. The far-right follows Limbaugh without questioning and with no critical thought. They also follow the lead of the excitable Michelle Malkin and whatever remains on Drudge. Individualism is not a part of their make-up and they follow the standard tribal ideology with near fascistic order.
Still no mention of the meeting between Obama and McCrystal on these same far-right blogs. I'm sure once they realize it occurred they'll find a way to manufacture another controversy.

Basically you d/l music to your computer and then through this program you can upload to the Ipod. Very user friendly too. But when you go to sync to ITunes, they don't copy to their server. OTOH, you can copy all your music from the Ipod to your computer with SharePod so you have your own backup.

re: #112 Conservative Moonbat
Since you obviously didn't read the linked article, here's a short excerpt:
These people are very few in number, and should not be conflated with the "antiwar" movement as a whole. But observing "peace" rallies where Bush is decried far, far more passionately than Saddam -- where, in fact, Saddam is barely mentioned at all -- suggests that something not altogether different lurks beneath the surface among many others. Nick Kristof this week bemoaned the fact that "in some e-mail from fellow doves I detect hints of satisfaction that the U.S. is running into trouble in Iraq -- as if hawks should be taught a lesson about the real world with the blood of young Americans." (When you read Eric Alterman's blog, and see him almost high-five every allied setback, you can see what Kristof is worrying about.)
Then last week, someone actually came out and said it. Columbia University professor Nicholas De Genova hoped at an "antiwar teach-in," hosted by left-wing writer and historian Eric Foner, that there would be "a million Mogadishus" in this war. To translate: This guy wants to see a million young American troops subjected to war crimes, shot and mutilated, and paraded through the streets. No one in the crowd objected. "The only true heroes are those who find ways that help defeat the U.S. military," he elaborated. And to loud cheers from an Ivy League college audience, he thundered, "If we really [believe] that this war is criminal ... then we have to believe in the victory of the Iraqi people and the defeat of the U.S. war machine."

I was astounded to hear and see that the perspective they chose to tell the story was through the joy and elation exhibited by the Palestinian families of the twenty (19) women released for the proof of life video.
Not content with that, the reporter then breathlessly imagined the level of excitement for the expected release of 1000 prisoners demanded by Hamas for the live body.

I begrudgingly admitted that leaving to soon would leave a humanitarian nightmare in our wake and supported our remaining their until things could marginally stabilized.

A more complete quote from Limbaugh today:
The world has rejected Obama? Once again Limbaugh is creating an event that did not exist for his AM radio listeners. The people that desired for the Chicago location went well beyond Obama and included George W. Bush. The "world" did not reject Obama but the IOC rejected the USA bid. Brazil was the odds on favorite from the beginning.

It didn't just get better on its own, and there was a reason why extremists had an easier time posting their crap at LGF back then: I didn't have the tools I have now.
The advance of web technology, especially Ajax technology, has enabled me to moderate LGF in a way that simply was not possible a few years ago.

re: #189 Mich-again
The bid for Chicago to host the 2016 Olympic games was officially initiated early in 2007.
From Wiki:
Initially, five American cities vied for the 2016 Olympics: Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. The USOC's chairman at the time, Peter Ueberroth, visited all potential host cities during April and May 2006. He visited Chicago on May 10. On July 26, 2006, the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) narrowed its list of American applicant cities to three: Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco.[4] San Francisco withdrew its application on November 13, 2006 after the San Francisco 49ers pulled out of a deal for the construction of a new stadium that would be the centerpiece of the games.
The final stage of the USOC internal selection occurred on April 14, 2007, at Washington, D.C.'s Embassy Row Hotel, where the two remaining bid cities, Chicago and Los Angeles, made a last 40-minute presentation to the USOC board members.[6] At about 9:00 pm UTC, Chicago was announced as the winner of the United States bid for the 2016 Olympic Games by Ueberroth.[7]
On October 2, 2009, Chicago's bid at hosting the 2016 Summer Olympic Games officially ended when the Olympic Committee voted them out in the round of four.
Here we see Peter Ueberroth standing next to Ronald Reagan throwing a pitch at the Memorial Stadium in Baltimore.
FEC records reveal that Peter Ueberroth is a continuing contributor to the Republican Party.
Example:
UEBERROTH, PETER V MR.
LAGUNA BEACH, CA 92652
SELF-EMPLOYED/BUSINESS MANAGEMENTBUSH, GEORGE W
VIA BUSH-CHENEY '04 (PRIMARY) INC

Peter Ueberroth, USOC Chariman, Republican
Patrick G. Ryan, Olympic bid Chairman and CEO, Republican

I never claimed they were. I just objected to the way KT was using stances only held by the fringe to exemplify the entirety of the left in general.
I'll restate it. The majority of the left did not want the US to "lose" in Iraq. That's just hogwash. They wanted to minimize troop losses by ending what they saw as an unjust war as soon as possible. I think a lot of it hinges around if you saw the was as legitimate or not too. If it's an illegitimate war, you can't win or lose it. I supported our continued presence because I thought the humanitarian cost would be greater if we left than if we stayed.

Well, it can be quite a detrimental effect at the polls if they force an extreme candidate's victory in a primary, and then their chosen candidate loses in the general election.
I still think Limbaugh and his ilk helped GW Bush to win the GOP primary in 2000, which proved to have pretty negative consequences for the GOP and possibly the country.
Sports analogy. The cheerleaders do not play nor win or lose the game. Bush took the nomination because he was more effective at doing so, just like all the rest. Silly to attribute these things to some external force. I give you Obama vs. Hillary. The best man won.

Some Georgia congressman whom nobody can name and who didn’t realize what he was saying when he said it?
Ann Coulter is a national treasure. She is a sword of justice relentlessly skewering liberal hypocrites. I love Ann for that alone. This might be a first, posting a pandagon link on LGF, but this is great.
The other part of this woman’s interview that I found hilarious was that she invoked what’s become a right wing article of faith that I’m going to dispute here and now: That people with progressive or rationalist opinions incur a special responsibility to keep those opinions to themselves, and never use art, comedy, or music to express their opinions, and especially never express opinions in forums where fragile wingnuts might be exposed and have their “beliefs” questioned. Which is what she was saying when she said that no one should express an atheist opinion on stage while singing. What if their lyrics are atheist, lady? It does happen.

Charles found him and several other posters on a site called Correspondance Committee, where some banned posters (jorline and Jammie Wearing Fool) were also posting. Some of the comments there were about planning flounces from LGF. Charles therfore classified the site as a stalker blog and booted the posters in question. TFK was one of them. I could talk the talk.
But you know what? That's bullshit. Boards like this should be transparent. You should represent who you are and argue your positions based on the facts as you see them. Others will disagree, but that is why LGF exits, to provide a forum for disparate opinions. Things get heated, yes. But this board should never be a place where whacks on either sides of the aisle can cherry pick comments to attack the Moderator.

re: #225 Conservative Moonbat
I'll restate it. The majority of the left did not want the US to "lose" in Iraq. That's just hogwash. They wanted to minimize troop losses by ending what they saw as an unjust war as soon as possible.
IIRC, I started reading DailyKos sometime in 2006. I remember people posting diaries where they would have some animated gif of a flickering candle for each soldier that died that day. People would post about crying over the war, just a lot of grief stricken people.
Where are those posts and people now? For some reason the change in attitude bothers me, because I think they were exploiting death for political gains. I won't judge it as patriotic or not, but you have to question the motives of the anti-war movement when the entire movement seems to have fallen off the face of the planet when Obama was sworn in.

I suppose someone's already linked this...
The Wizard of Beck
Just months after the election and the humiliation, everyone is again convinced that Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity and the rest possess real power. And the saddest thing is that even Republican politicians come to believe it. They mistake media for reality. They pre-emptively surrender to armies that don’t exist.
They pay more attention to Rush’s imaginary millions than to the real voters down the street. The Republican Party is unpopular because it’s more interested in pleasing Rush’s ghosts than actual people. The party is leaderless right now because nobody has the guts to step outside the rigid parameters enforced by the radio jocks and create a new party identity. The party is losing because it has adopted a radio entertainer’s niche-building strategy, while abandoning the politician’s coalition-building strategy.
The rise of Beck, Hannity, Bill O’Reilly and the rest has correlated almost perfectly with the decline of the G.O.P. But it’s not because the talk jocks have real power. It’s because they have illusory power, because Republicans hear the media mythology and fall for it every time.

See the IGTNT series of diaries. There is one every day and it's usually on the reclist. Political discussions are forbidden in them. They are exclusively for honoring fallen troops.
[Link: www.dailykos.com...]
Fair enough, I have read several of those IGTNT diaries. In my opinion, there is seems to be less focus on the causalities of war today on DKos than two years ago. Less front page stories for sure, and less recs for the IGTNT ones. But on the other hand, the surge in Iraq has been a success and fortunately less soldiers are dying in war than two years ago.

And it was derby day
Was dad and me and darrell
Out in san pablo bay
Taco flavored doritos
And my orange life vest
Dad caught a hundred pound sturgeon
On twenty-pound test
Now he fought that fish for an hour
And a half
Darrell'd say "jump ya sons a bitch!"
And he grabbed for the gaff
When we got him in the boat
He measured six feet long
I was so danged impressed i had
To write a song called
Fish on
Nice!

Charles didn't start the fight with the Kos, Marcos "Screw Them" Moulitas started it when he gloated over those contractors deaths. In so doing, he revealed himself to be a vile man who condones murder. Charles had to oppose such a man, as do all decent people.

I appreciate the sane people who I may not agree with on every political point, but who aren't deranged. And I'd like to see more dialog between the left and right, and less demonization.
But I repeat -- this is a two-way street. Just because I don't want to join forces with the religious right and the paleocons and the fascists, doesn't mean I'm suddenly just fine with the ultra-leftists.

What are you on crack??? They went after Lieberman for 2 years. He's about as moderate as it gets.
And I registered over here once things started looking more moderate. I registered over there when I was volunteering for Harold Ford's (who is not a progressive) Senate campaign. just to keep in touch other people who were volunteering in 2006. I never claimed to agree with the front page or half the diarists. If you're a volunteer for a democratic cause, no matter where you are on the spectrum, it's still an indispensable site. It's a major organizational hub. I don't really care what kos has to say and seldom read him.

Charles didn't start the fight with the Kos, Marcos "Screw Them" Moulitas started it when he gloated over those contractors deaths. In so doing, he revealed himself to be a vile man who condones murder. Charles had to oppose such a man, as do all decent people.
On the other hand, that was late March '04, and they have toned it down quite a lot since then. If you give this board credit for purging it's idiots, you should do so on the other side. Fair is fair.

The thing I have never been able to understand about American politics is that everything thing is left vs right. Both parties have to pander to their extremes and they seem to take the center for granted. A center democrat and a center republican probably have more in common with each other than they do with the extreme elements of their respective parties.
That is probably never going to change as long as there are only two viable political parties.

I remember My Moonbat Brother (MMB™) explicitly approving the Kos "screw them mercenaries" comment. That was when I realized what a big family problem I have when it comes to politics.
Are there legitimate questions about the use of private contractors to perform military duties in combat zones? You bet there are.
Is there room in my friend's list for someone who speaks approvingly of what happened to those guys? Fuck no. Unfortunately you can't pick your family.
Michael Moore lost me forever with his "Minuteman" statement around the same time. I'd probably agree with most of what he says in "Sicko" - I'm never going to watch it, just like I skipped "Fahrenheit 9/11" (one of the dumbest movie rip-off titles ever) and will never see his new flick about capitalism.
Kos could apologize for that comment, and I'd respect him for it. I don't think he has the wit to know he did anything wrong.

Inappropriate, imo, to show a Bible verse on a banner at a public HS football game.
As to the praying - God doesn't care, of course who wins the football game.
But people just might be praying for the safety of the players. Which in my mind, would be an OK thing to do. In silence. But asking for the players' safety would be, well, a good thing, don't you think?

Blasphemy! You are obviously not native to the US. Up until the mid-90's, legislation was made like sausage, and everybody gave a little. Then the R's got control under Gingrich and DeLay in '94, and things went bonkers. Everything became partisan. There was no viable middle. Voters may want middle ground, but it doesn't exist in the Legislature.
We don't have a parliamentary system here, where proportional voting (and the majority of Americans on this board just went "whaa?") is allowed in national elections. It reinforces the two party system in this country.

Leiberman is a douche who supported allowing conscience clause exemptions for Catholic hospitals treating rape victims-- that is, allowing them to refuse to administer emergency contraception to them. He thinks it isn't a big deal if a rape victim has to travel another 50 miles or so to get emergency care after being raped.
Joe Lieberman can go to hell.
