This is the second video off “I’m Good Now”. This video was directed by Alexandra Valenti and shot in Bob’s hometown of Austin, Texas.

They say love finds its own way home
Around the snakes inside your heart underneath all the bones
And though the world may fold you in its pocket you will never bend
Your not the type my only love my only true friend

And what about the girl who ran
She ran so far away she could never find her way back home again
She tripped and fell and broke her heart
Now the only thing she does well is fall apart
C’mon, c’mon baby c’mon yeah
C’mon baby c’mon yeah, c’mon baby c’mon yeah

What about this starry sky
I know I’ve used that tired analogy a thousand times
But it still has the same strange effect on me
I fall into the sky like I was falling into a beautiful blue sea

I want to stop the world and hide
But there’s nowhere to run and no place left inside
Just want to stop and catch my breath
Spend one second on this earth not scared to death
C’mon c’mon baby, c’mon yeah
C’mon baby c’mon yeah, c’mon baby c’mon
C’mon baby c’mon, c’mon baby c’mon

That’s what I say but is it true?
The truth is everything, is perfect and it’s not for me and you
To figure out anything at all and all we’ve got is time
But not much time so fuck the brakes and get in line

Just want to make you see the light
I just want to shine as bright as Brooklyn on a Saturday night
I want to scream until I drown
I want to get so high that I never come back down

And I know you’ll never understand I know you’ll never understand
You think you know me well, you think you know me, well think again
I’m on fire and I’m insane and I’m all right
Don’t stand so close, you’ve been blinded by the light
C’mon, c’mon baby c’mon yeah
C’mon baby c’mon yeah, c’mon baby c’mon

Baby c’mon yeah
Baby c’mon yeah
Baby c’mon yeah
Baby, baby, baby

Baby c’mon
Baby c’mon
Baby c’mon
Baby c’mon

Waiting 9 days makes Congress look like selfish fools. That being said Obama sure is getting a lot of miles out of his “please proceed” philosophy. By allowing the GOP to set the Obamacare pre-release narrative is going to pay of in silver dollars after everyone realizes the GOP has been fucking lying to us. Just in time for 2014. Letting the GOP run the narrative on Benghazi, IRS and Snowden scandal is blowing up in their faces.

On every one of those issues, what did Obama’s critics say? “He needs to get out in front of this! He needs to confront this issue!” Yet he didn’t, and each one of them collapsed due to general lack of interest. Especially because every one of them turned out to be absolutely overblown.

He made a mistake. Not some big “Outrageous Outrage!!1” mistake like the wingnuts scream about, but he said on several occasions that the US would not tolerate the Assad Regime using chemical weapons on its own people. He called it a “red line” and last week Assad’s younger brother marched clear across it. That has left Barack Obama in “put up or shut up” territory. If he doesn’t strike at Syria, then his talk of red lines will have been revealed as baloney.

Barack Obama is a smart man but he’s trapped himself on this one. Doesn’t mean he can’t get out, since the game’s not over yet, but he put himself in a bad position.

I don’t think so. He might take action if a house doesn’t vote, but if they vote his authorization down and he attacks anyways then he’ll look like a lawless asshole. He’d walk right into a major GOP talking point if he did that, and I seriously doubt the public would support him.

The public likely will support Obama if Congress fails to act, but if Congress tells him ‘No’, then people are going to expect him to abide by that.

What talking point would that be? That he’s a “power mad despot.” They were no doubt set to accuse him of that if he took action without seeking Congress’ approval anyway, so he was fucked either way. Meanwhile, they’re backed into a wall themselves, as they just spent the previous decade arguing up and down that just the presence of WMDs in a country’s arsenal was reason enough for regime change. You can change the name, but the stink remains. The GOP bitched up a storm in the first term of Obama’s administration about his decision to honor the withdrawal deadline from Iraq and has accused him of “retreating” from Afghanistan. Trying to now paint themselves as a party of doves, of non-intervention, in a conflict where there has been documented WMD usage is not going to fool the voters.

LOL, you’re high.

Unlike Libya there’s no UN resolution and the vast majority of NATO is staying home, so if he went in he’d have no international orgs playing interference and France as his only wingman.

This way he’s giving every critic in Congress exactly what they’ve been asking for, a chance to vote on the use of force. He’s positioned himself brilliantly, no matter what happens his administration can argue that they tried to do something about the use of gas against civilians. Congress can’t vote for or against a resolution without massive GOP support and thus ownership over the consequences. The Senate can’t vote unless the GOP agrees not to filibuster and Boehner won’t bring it up in the House without majority GOP support.

In the end, no matter what happens Obama will have insulated his administration from charges that he stood by and did nothing, and the consequent comparisons to Neville Chamberlain.

He worded it perfectly, that he believes he has the authority to take action, but will not do so without Congress’ approval. So no matter what action the GOP takes on this one, they own the consequences. There is no way for them to easily deflect all the blame to Obama.

Nah, he’ll shrug his shoulders and the French will just do it. They’re getting into pretend superpower mode again anyway and there’s the en.wikipedia.org 1920 - 1946 French occupation of Syria making them think they have the right to meddle in Syrian affairs.

Boehner’s already set the Congressional GOP up for failure by declaring that it’s the job of the President to come before Congress and make the case for action. Why? Because conversely the case against war has to be made by somebody. If the GOP either does not allow a vote or votes down authorization, then they will have to make a case for doing so. And “We hate Obama!” is not a case that will sell to the voters.

Our press is a real problem. They frame these issues in dangerous ways.

And they sanitize and whitewash issues too. Our so-called “liberal” media keeps people stupid. While they hyperventilate about Miley Cyrus, the rest of the world sees important world events. It’s galling.

80 Lidane  Sat, Aug 31, 2013 8:34:06pm

re: #63 Dark_Falcon

if Congress votes the authorization down in a smart way

ROFL. As if the GOP are capable of being smart or serious about anything involving the President. Keep dreaming.

Watch your party tie any action on Syria to defunding Obamacare. Or they’ll demand offsets to pay for military action.

81 Targetpractice  Sat, Aug 31, 2013 8:34:18pm

One thing to take into consideration is there will be Democrats who will, either out of conviction or fear of the polls, vote against authorization. In which case, the GOP will be quick to argue that failure to authorize military action is a “bipartisan” decision. But even that will lack much weight, as the “Hastert Rule” means Boehner doesn’t bring a bill to the House floor without majority GOP support. So either he breaks the rule just to vote down authorization or he puts the bill on the floor knowing it’ll pass.

Human bones found at infamous Florida reform school

Researchers from the University of South Florida are exhuming remains from the bodies of 19 long-lost residents of the infamous Dozier Reform School for Boys in the Florida Panhandle.

“Even if we can’t name them, just the fact that they’re not lost, with trees growing through them, is a big service to the community,” forensic anthropologist Erin Kimmerle told CNN in a story aired Friday.

An informal cemetery with 31 crosses already sits on the grounds of the school to honor students confirmed to have died there, but 22 other students remain unaccounted for, and residents of the town nearest the school, Mariana, reportedly believe another undiscovered cemetery is located at the 1,400-acre property.

It depends. I personally think if Congress votes the authorization down in a smart way, the public won’t hold it against them because the public doesn’t really care all that much about what happens to Syrians.

This is funny because D_F has absolutely no idea what that “smart way” might be. It’s purely hypothetical, theoretical and imaginary, like cold fusion only less plausible.

Syrians in Ghouta Claim Saudi-Supplied Rebels Behind Chemical Attack

original.antiwar.com

So, without real proof and only with anecdotal evidence from people who know literally nothing about weapons, this article purports to know more than the intelligence services and experts on chemical weapons?

“Dale Gavlak assisted in the research and writing process of this article, but was not on the ground in Syria. Reporter Yahya Ababneh, whom the report was written in collaboration with, was the correspondent on the ground in Ghouta who spoke directly with the rebels, their family members, victims of the chemical weapons attacks and local residents.

This is Yahya Ababneh, who is connected with Occupy.org: “Yahya Ababneh is a Jordanian freelance journalist and is currently working on a master’s degree in journalism. He has covered events in Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Libya. His stories have appeared on Amman Net, Saraya News, Gerasa News and elsewhere.” elizabethkendal.blogspot.com (You can find info on Dale Gavlak there also.) “Mint Press News” is described as “independent advocacy journalism”. Many D.C. think tanks now players in partisan wars

The shift is upending the role of think tanks, prompting some researchers to worry it is eroding trust in these institutions.

Indeed, it now is difficult to tell the difference between truly objective advice and high-priced advocacy for political or private profit, according to a Globe review of public and internal documents and interviews with dozens of current and former think tank scholars, management staff, and donors.

Some say Washington’s once-heralded “ideas industry” steadily looks like a “think tank-industrial complex.”

“They have evolved into what looks like a business,” said Alan Dye, a Washington attorney who has represented think tanks, including Heritage, for three decades. “A brain trust for sale.”

Some thinks tanks on the left and the right of the ideological spectrum have grown so political that, to avoid losing their tax status as charitable organizations, they have established separate operations dedicated to lobbying and other advocacy work.

Now imagine that he is not more disastrous than some of his possible successors.

The Invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany begins at 4:45 a.m. with the Luftwaffe attacking several targets in Poland. The Luftwaffe launches air attacks against Kraków, Łódź, and Warsaw. Within five minutes of the Luftwaffe attacks, the German Navy (Kriegsmarine) orders the old Battleship Schleswig-Holstein to open fire on the Polish military transit depot at Westerplatte in the Free City of Danzig on the Baltic Sea, but the attack was repulsed. By 8:00 a.m., troops of the German Army (Wehrmacht Heer), still without a formal declaration of war issued, launch an attack near the Polish town of Mokra.

…Syria and France negotiated a treaty of independence in September 1936, and Hashim al-Atassi was the first president to be elected under the first incarnation of the modern republic of Syria. However, the treaty never came into force because the French Legislature refused to ratify it. With the fall of France in 1940 during World War II, Syria came under the control of Vichy France until the British and Free French occupied the country in the Syria-Lebanon campaign in July 1941. Continuing pressure from Syrian nationalists and the British forced the French to evacuate their troops in April 1946, leaving the country in the hands of a republican government that had been formed during the mandate…

In November 1956, as a direct result of the Suez Crisis, Syria signed a pact with the Soviet Union. This gave a foothold for Communist influence within the government in exchange for military equipment. Turkey then became worried about this increase in the strength of Syrian military technology, as it seemed feasible that Syria might attempt to retake İskenderun. Only heated debates in the United Nations lessened the threat of war.

Actually, Turkey’s fears were overblown, given how politicized Syria’s military was and how poor its Soviet tactics turned out to work. But the Turks did not know that at the time.

We have two off-shore teams but continue to hire locally. We’ve relegated one off-shore team to bug fixing primarily - no real new feature development because the last two times their features had to be scrapped. I just pulled their two automation engineers into my group because the code they had been writing was not maintainable. The key is to get their code base checked in with yours, then have local devs approve their merges, rather than waiting until release day and slapping their features in to see if they work.

Android tablets and Chromium laptops. Local storage devices will be a thing of the past in another five years as more and more people become comfortable with keeping everything on their Google Drive or commerical equivalent. Give one kid a $249 chromium laptop and another a $1700 PC/Mac on the first day of school, and they’ll be equally capable of getting their work done.

He’s proficient in HVAC, plumbing, electrical and construction. 25 yrs experience, no college. Except for one year of chemical engineering at U of Maryland before a double knee injury ruined his football scholarship. I’ve mainly been going off of its poor sales. Nokia and its deal-with-the-devil Windows 8 phones haven’t exactly been burning up the sales charts. Microsoft ate $900 million in its Surface RT tablet inventory. Windows 8 on the desktop is such a major paradigm shift that businesses aren’t willing to pay the cost to retrain employees, and are retaining Windows 7 for the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, in India:

Guru arrested for rape

Ajay Singh Lamba said Asaram Bapu was arrested at a spiritual retreat in central India early on Sunday and flown to the city of Jodhpur where police say he is wanted for raping a 16-year-old girl.

This guy has been a clown for for a while:

Land encroachment in Navsari district
In the year 2000, the Asaram Ashram was allocated about 10 acres of land in Bhairavi village of Navsari district by the Gujarat government. The ashram encroached on an additional 6 acres, leading to protests in the local villages. On a complaint filed by locals, and after repeated notices were ignored, the district authorities with police assistance bulldozed the encroachments and took possession of the land.

Land encroachment in Madhya Pradesh
The Yog Vedanta Samiti of Asaram Bapu was reportedly given permission to use the premises of the Mangalya temple in Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh for 11 days for a satsang in 2001. The samiti failed to vacate the premises after the satsang, and continue to occupy a total of 100 acres of land, valued at over 700 crores. The land belongs to the now defunct Jayant Vitamins Limited.
Asaram Bapu denies any involvement, saying the report are baseless and untenable.

Statements on 2012 Delhi gang rape victim
Asaram Bapu was severely criticized by the media after his remark that the December 16, 2012 Delhi gang rape victim, was equally guilty along with those responsible for the sexual assault on her. He is reported to have said: “Only 5-6 people are not the culprits. The victim is as guilty as her rapists… She should have called the culprits brothers and begged before them to stop… This could have saved her dignity and life. Can one hand clap? I don’t think so.” He is also reported to have said that he was against harsher punishments for the accused in the Delhi rape victim case, as the law could be misused. To support his point, he is said to have stated that, “Dowry law in India is the biggest example of law being misused.”
Asaram Bapu came under widespread criticism when it was reported that he said the Delhi gang rape and murder would not have happened if the victim had called the rapist-killers her brothers and fallen at their feet. He is quoted as saying: “The girl should have taken God’s name and could have held the hand of one of the men and said, ‘I consider you my brother’ and to the other two, she should have said, ‘Brothers, I am helpless. You are my brothers, my religious brothers’. Then the misconduct wouldn’t have happened.”

Exactly. And with Windows 8 being a latecomer to the phone/tablet party, Microsoft is now in the unenviable position of having to play catch-up with Apple and Google. I think the jury is still out on how well it’s done, but given the previous statement on lackluster phone/tablet sales equipped with Windows 8, it isn’t looking good. I do know people who think it’s good stuff, but my own personal experience with it is limited.

…Then again, I suppose that means I do still fall asleep during all meetings.

I have apnea, but only when I sleep on my back which is not often. Wearing my mask keeps me from hitting deep sleep so it’s a wash.

I’ve always been a deep sleeper, so after I was able to adjust to the feeling of the mask, it resulted in a major net positive. I do still have tiredness issues at work, but that’s mostly when I don’t sleep enough rather than the quality thereof. Having two children does NOT help on that front.

The sleep clinic doc figures most of my tiredness comes from depression but none of the 10 or so different meds I’ve tried really affects that much. About the best that can be done is moderate my anger through norepinephrine inhibitors.

Microsoft tried to homogenize the desktop and tablet space, and it just doesn’t work too well for either.

I had a Nokia smartphone for a long while that I really liked, but when Nokia made that deal with Microsoft I vowed my next phone would be anything but Nokia. Now I have a Chinese-made XiaoMi Android phone and I’m glad I left Nokia and M$ mobile behind. As for desktops, I’m still slogging away on a Vista machine, which keeps chugging along with no major mishaps. You’d be surprised (or maybe not) how many XP boxes there are here in China. Pretty amazing, considering there’s probably only one legit copy of the install disk in the whole country.

I can’t watch those people. I’m leaving the TV off and figuring right here will be less frustrating and more illuminating.

Isn’t the following pretty much what has been missing from American military policy in the Bush admin?

1. Specific goals
2. Limits on the action
3. Work with Congress and our allies/stakeholders involved.

From Obamas speech

(1) prevent or deter the use or proliferation (including the transfer to terrorist groups or other state or non-state actors), within, to or from Syria, of any weapons of mass destruction, including chemical or biological weapons or components of or materials used in such weapons; or

(2) protect the United States and its allies and partners against the threat posed by such weapons.

Edit
Obama has also used the phrase “Deter, disrupt, diminish” the chem attacks.

They know, but they also know that many Sunnis in Syria have wanted to massacre or at least harshly persecute Syria’s Christians for a long time and the Assad dynasty has kept that from happening. Some Syrian Christians are thus willing to accept gassing Sunnis if that is what it takes to keep the Christians alive.

Please note that the logic presented is that logic of the people holding up those Assad flags; I do not share it.

caveat…I am not aware of her actual comments, but in general, Israeli support might be helpful because they are a strong ally. Maybe she worded it badly or it was taken out of context. Does anyone know her actual comments?

If some people are jumping on her statements and using them to suggest some inflated influence in Congress of a supposed “Jewish Lobby”, then that is on them.
Maybe I am missing something.

What we should fear is the recipe of social isolation, chronic invalidation, and repression combined with substances and weapons in anyone, whether they have a capital “D”-Diagnosis or not.

While adults with mental illness are not the problem, untreated delusional and manic symptoms can be cause for concern. In centers like the Red House, professionals (social workers, mental health clinicians, occupational therapists and psychiatrists) screen for and are mandated to report threatening behavior. They give clients tools for symptom management and an outlet for expression. Eliminating structure, socialization, and professional attention increases the risks to themselves and to others. The absence of treatment will be ultimately more detrimental to communities, states, and the health of the nation.

Rim Fire info:

inciweb.nwcg.gov

Crews completed putting fire line around the spot fire southeast of Pilot Peak, however localized winds last night created new spot fires that will be addressed today. In the northwest, east, and southwest areas crew continue to create direct and indirect line where accessibility and safety allow. Burning operations were in the Hull Creek Drainage. Burning operations are continuing in areas with favorable conditions around Hetch Hetchy and Harden Lake as well as Big Oak Road near Crane Flat. Contingency lines are being reinforced between the fire and the communities of Tuolumne City, Twin Harte, and Long Barn. Mopup is occurring along the southwest corner of the fire from Pine Mountain to Buck Meadows. Today, firefighters will continue with burning operations and strengthening existing lines, as well as structure defense.

*Note there is a website glitch. The estimated containment date for the Rim Fire is September 20, 2013.

Britain allowed firms to sell chemicals to Syria capable of being used to make nerve gas

Export licences for potassium fluoride and sodium fluoride were granted months after the bloody civil war in the Middle East began.

The chemical is capable of being used to make weapons such as sarin…
… snip ….
The Government have refused to identify the licence holders or say whether the licences were issued to one or two companies.

The chemicals are in powder form and highly toxic. The licences specified that they should be used for making aluminium structures such as window frames.

Professor Alastair Hay, an expert in environmental toxicology at Leeds University, said: “They have a variety of industrial uses.

“But when you’re making a nerve agent, you attach a fluoride element and that’s what gives it its toxic properties.

“Fluoride is key to making these munitions.

“Whether these elements were used by Syria to make nerve agents is something only subsequent investigation will reveal.”
