Build quality is excellent. Uses a classic CelestionTM Vintage 30 speaker. Sounds great. Surprised more folks haven’t noticed them.

Looks nice. I’d be really interested if I didn’t already have a really nice - and for hand wired tube amp cheap at $400 - VHT Special 6 Ultra. Almost never hear of them either but they’re really sweet.
The BCRA (“Better” Care Reconciliation Act) acronym associated with TrumpCare has disturbed many non-Republicans: it’s too similar to BRCA — the gene that causes many cases of breast cancer. This tax cut legislation drafted exclusively by men will eliminate the free screening that the ACA provided for detection of this gene; my guess is that it will probably not pay for the preventive surgery that women who carry this gene often request.
To quote Eric Trump, “I’ve never seen hatred like this. To me, they’re not even people. It’s so, so sad. Morality’s just gone, morals have flown out the window, and we deserve so much better than this as a country.” As has been said before, whenever a Trump criticizes a Democrat, it’s because the words actually apply to Trump and Republicans.

Yah, the Traynor list price is about double that, but I got mine for not much more than your VHT. Local store has a special sale for repeat customers and I took advantage of their sale to pick up the Traynor. My Telecaster vintage ‘52 reissue guitar sounds marvelous through the Traynor. I may change the speaker at some point but overall have been very happy with the amp.

Found a reference here: bbc.co.uk
Edit: There’s also a couple of important paragraphs at the link:
Removal of trade unions and their replacement with the German Labour Front (DAF) prevented strikes. Many Germans preferred low paid jobs to unemployment.
…
The German economy seemed to improve under the Nazis. Unemployment appeared to fall. This helped the Nazis portray themselves as the saviours of Germany.
In reality, the apparent fall in unemployement was due to propaganda and the exclusion of certain groups in official statistics. For example, women and Jews were sacked from their jobs but not counted as unemployed.
re: #18 Charles Johnson
Looks like it’s genuine.
Why wouldn’t it be real? Wasn’t the Beetle developed based on Hitler’s demands?
From the Wikipedia article: en.wikipedia.org
In April 1934, Adolf Hitler gave the order to Ferdinand Porsche to develop a Volkswagen (literally, “people’s car” in German, pronounced [ˈfɔlksvaːɡən]).[17] The epithet Volks- literally, “people’s-” had been applied to other Nazi-sponsored consumer goods such as the Volksempfänger (“people’s radio”).
In May 1934, at a meeting at Berlin’s Kaiserhof Hotel, Chancellor Hitler insisted on a basic vehicle that could transport two adults and three children at 100 km/h (62 mph) while not using more than 7 litres of fuel per 100 km (32 mpg US/39 mpg UK).[12] The engine had to be powerful for sustained cruising on Germany’s new Autobahnen. Everything had to be designed to ensure parts could be quickly and inexpensively exchanged. The engine had to be air-cooled because, as Hitler explained, not every country doctor had his own garage (ethylene glycol antifreeze was only just beginning to be used in high-performance liquid-cooled aircraft engines. In general, radiators filled with water would freeze unless the vehicle was kept in a heated building overnight or drained and refilled each morning).[18]
The “People’s Car” would be available to citizens of Nazi Germany through a savings scheme, or Sparkarte (savings booklet),[19] at 990 Reichsmark, about the price of a small motorcycle. (The average weekly income was then around 32RM.)

They were manufactured in Canada - they got the nickname of ‘the Canadian Ampeg’ because they were every bit as rugged as the stuff St. Louis Music was making back then. Our local music store was a distributor, so quite a few local bands used their stuff.
I’m pretty sure that’s a newer one. The old ones were pretty non-descript, with black control panel and black Tolex. Same logo, though.

Traynor was really popular in the Twin Cities. The band I was in in the early 70’s had Ampeg amps with the big cabinets (I’m a drummer so I don’t know the details other than they were tall). I loved the sound of those amps. The Faces used those amps too.

The Ampegs were probably SVTs - when I played bass I had one with an ATA flight case (AKA an Anvil case). Far and away the heaviest amp I’ve ever owned, both in terms of weight and the sound they produced. Lucky for me, I had a road crew in that band and never had to lift it.
The Stones got those amps before anybody - Ampeg gave them nine prototype heads after they fried all their Fender gear due to a voltage mix up. The story is here - ampeg.com
I also used a VT-22 combo for guitar for a while. Loved that amp.

Maybe Hatch would start caring about Medicaid if he understood that about 31% of its funds go to nursing homes to help the elderly and disabled. He obviously doesn’t care about those who are poor — since they vote D, or don’t vote or support Trump and won’t blame the Republicans when they lose health coverage. He does care about the elderly and AARP, because they will assign the blame appropriately.

You lucky devils, I am going to be off LGF for three or four days. Our water tower repair project started this evening.
You’d be amazed what you can put in a Smart car (like a seven and one-half foot water valve wrench, a fire hydrant wrench, and a pipe wrench big enough to serve as a boat anchor).
After fitting pressure relief valves to two hydrants to prevent the well pumps from blowing up our water system, and a fire hose to another to drain the water tower into the irrigation canal, the village chairwoman got dozens of calls within a few minutes from angry residents. They were complaining about low water pressure. (We’ve been warning them for a month about this, but it’s easier to call the chairwoman to complain, about which she can do nothing - and I’m the guy they’re supposed to be calling, and I’m the only one in the phone book.)
Went back out and re-adjusted the pressure relief valves on the hydrants to allow slightly higher pressure.
Went to the water tower to unlock the ladder so the iron company can access the tower for repairs, and about five of us were going through an ancient box of keys trying to figure out which key opens the lock on the ladder.
In the middle of that, a rattlesnake slithered up to all of us and set off its characteristic rattles. No one was bit as we slowly (then quickly) got the hell out of there, but I’m rattled now.
Tomorrow I’m on the hook for the iron company to call. The work is expected to last three days, after which we have to fill the tank, they have to disinfect it, we have to empty it, then we have to fill it again.
So lucky LGF, I won’t be around much to cause complaints… . I’ll be hitting the rack early tonight as this project kicks off shortly after dawn tomorrow.

re: #62 retired cynic
What do you use to keep supplying water to the town, and keep the pressure up?
Currently, one of the two water well pumps is switched to “manual” (meaning it runs continuously). The water tower is now cut out of the water system, so the well is pressurising the town directly.
However, the well pump pushes water at a far higher rating than our village water system pipes (and home pipes) are rated, hence the relief valves on the fire hydrants. (If the pressure in the water system gets too high, then the valves open and release pressure via the hydrants.)
Normally the water pumps push water directly up the water tower. After cutting the water tower out of the system, we opened the cross-connect valve at the tower to connect the pumps directly to the water system.
re: #68 retired cynic
I meant while it is empty and under repair.
My guess is that the entire town is being fed direct by the well pumps. That’s why they’ve got the pressure relief valves attached to the hydrants, to deal with any transient spikes caused by switching latency. If I recall correctly they already have individual reverse osmosis machines in every house instead of a centralized purification plant and I think they’re still on a boil order because the disrepair was letting insect pests from a nearby farm operation pollute the water inside the tower.

The water tower is cut out of the water system so we can drain it for the iron company in the morning. The only thing it is connected to at the moment is the fire hydrant right next to it, which is draining it into the irrigation canal. (Farmers are getting city water for free. If we could figure out how to bill them… .)

Yup. We’re not on a boil order now, but that is why we’re doing the repairs (no screens on the water tower vents, so insects can get in, and birds build nests in the vents).

When we were Really Farming, a man that worked for us also handled the water system for the nearest tiny hamlet (around the size of yours), and they kept having a problem. They suspected one of the farmers that the main line from the pump in the river bottom ground was tapping into it for irrigation water, and letting contaminants in, but it was hard to catch them. He stayed up nights, and finally caught them. They yelled bloody murder, and fought the case in court, saying they deserved to take what they wanted, and they never really paid the amount they actually cost the town. The drama kept our village occupied for many months.
Our well water out in the bottoms was just solid rust. Solid. With grit. Pipes and appliances would only last a couple of years before they filled up. When we moved, we got a well that was full of lime. It was such a relief to get city water. Some things are better not strained through your teeth!

Our village water system doesn’t require treatment (other than the RO units to remove arsenic and uranium). The water here is very clean.
Our village has been in a fight with one person who owns a house here (but doesn’t live here) which has an illegal well. The state is demanding the well be decommissioned, but the village board does not have the authority to go on this fellow’s property to do it. His issue is it costs too much, plus it isn’t contaminating anything (now).
The village attorney has been working up the paperwork through the usual progressive set of legal remedies that the village will seek if the well is not closed. (Eventually, if he refuses, the state will get involved.)

His issue is it costs too much, plus it isn’t contaminating anything (now).
The village attorney has been working up the paperwork through the usual progressive set of legal remedies that the village will seek if the well is not closed. (Eventually, if he refuses, the state will get involved.)
People who don’t live in tiny villages have no idea of the drama they miss.
During floods, we had folks wandering around with guns to protect their rights to stay dry, and during droughts, vice versa. We had a man named Bad Eye who lived in a basement near us. No house, just a basement. Sometimes people who wouldn’t fit in anywhere else manage quite nicely in a tiny place, where others accommodate their rough edges. Seems like we don’t have as many characters as we used to, ‘tho. Pity!

Our village water system doesn’t require treatment (other than the RO units to remove arsenic and uranium). The water here is very clean.

Yeah.

LOL. You’d have to get it out of the water filters when the service company removes and replaces the filters. (I’m not sure there is much at any one time … maybe I should take a Geiger counter to my RO unit and see what sorts of things I’m collecting under my kitchen sink.)
The game is given away.

This is Very Old West. And we have had thousands of sandbags in our lives, TYVM. We finally Lost the Farm after 5 big river floods, the last in that gigantic flood down the Missouri-Mississippi-Illinois in 1993. The water was 14 feet deep on our “high ground.” Seen it, got the t-shirt.

What was “low ground” like?
re: #88 Varek Raith
Yeesh.
What was “low ground” like?
Thirty or so… It’s a wide river bottom, maybe five miles where we were, and it was well up on the bluff on either side. Looked like the ocean. Had big waves and white caps. After the levee broke, and the water started going down, the rest of the levee helped hold it in. So for months it was all under water. Killed all the trees.

We’re on the valley side-slope of the North Platte about forty feet and about a mile away, so we should be safe from flooding here (unless the water tower collapses, then we’re done).

It was so much water coming down the Mississippi, that the Illinois ran backwards. That’s how we got wet. Some school children put a bottle in the North Platte up in your neck of the woods, and it came down there, down the Missouri, down the Mississippi for a ways, and then came backwards and landed up north of here. Satellite photos from that period were something.
This is a link to a satellite photo, showing the St Louis area normally and during the flood. We were to the north of this about 40 miles.

Wow.
Right now the North Platte is very high (and there has been a flood warning just downstream from us for a month), because of overfilled water impoundments upstream in Wyoming. To prevent something like what happened in Oroville, California, they opened many dams upstream from us.
(The village of Lewellyn, downstream about thirty miles from us, has had its park underwater for about a month.)

I loved the sound the Stones got out of those. Driving and Crying made the claim once that they had some of the Stones originals.*

The SVT cabs had 8 10” speakers, but I later found an Ampeg reflex guitar cabinet the called the G-60, with 6 tens. It was a little easier on the road crew than the Big Boy.
My SVT and G-60 now reside in a friend’s recording studio. Once I went back to guitar in 1992 I sold the rig to him. It still works, and the output levels can still hurt you.

This was my Ampeg head. I’m pretty sure the Ampeg cab I used had a metal bar built into the back. It was like a self-contained dolly.

I get that sometimes having an envoy handling specific foreign policy matters makes sense. The US has used envoys to deal with Middle East politics for decades, but none of them were as inexperienced or ignorant as Kushner.
Kushner doesn’t even pass the smell test when it comes to understanding his role and what his goal and outcome was supposed to be. It’s all bullshit all the time from Trump, and he thinks Kushner is some kind of genius when it comes to everything?
Why? What has Kushner done, besides getting married to his daughter? He manages his family’s real estate fortune - a situation not unlike Trump and his spawn. They haven’t worked to get where they are. They inherited their wealth and privilege, and in these parts (Bergen County) it’s known that Kushner wasn’t seen as the brightest bulb in the room and that daddy paid his way to Harvard.
Money has its privileges, but it wont solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict when you don’t know what the issues are (and then make them worse by apparently taking sides when you’re supposed to be the neutral 3d party).

Quite frankly, Jared’s as qualified as I am to be an envoy for Israeli/Palestine. You’re absolutely right. The only reason why Jared got this job was because of his wife is. Trump practices some of the most blatant nepotism you’ll ever see but his base doesn’t care because he’s not Hillary or Obama and he can pretty much do whatever the hell he wants according to them.
Add Sammy Hagar to the list of entitled d-bag has-been rock stars who, in between talking about his private jet and meals in Seville, says the rest of us slobs should STFU and let Trump make mistakes, because they’re not gonna impact him in any meaningful way (except maybe make him even more money)…
How would you grade Trump as a president so far?
I don’t think you can grade him yet, because the poor guy can’t get anything done. The opposition has become so crazy that they’re not gonna even give him a chance. I’d like to see him have a chance. He’s the president of the United States, and without getting any changes he ain’t helping us. So maybe he makes some changes that don’t work, and then maybe the next guy will come in and say, “That didn’t work, I’ll do it this way.” Because I don’t think anybody knows what the fuck they’re doing out there right now.
Take a seat, Sammy. Nobody cares, except maybe Rolling Stone who got another page of print out of it.
re: #190 lawhawk
I’m pretty sure nobody told Jared he was supposed to be neutral. Just go ‘make the deal’…throw Netanyahu’s demands out there, and see what you can negotiate…
Not exactly a well thought out plan.

And even then, their talent is usually very superficial. Hagar’s the perfect example. Yeah, he’s probably a “better” vocalist than David Lee Roth technically speaking, but he completely lacks Roth’s energy and charisma, and Van Halen’s material suffered as a result when he came on board.
It makes me sick that so many american’s health care is dependent on the whims of merchants.
Speaking of old rock stars…Rush’s Geddy Lee Gigs as One Man Band at Area Mall
Canadian musician Geddy Lee made an appearance today at the at Sarnia’s Lambton Mall playing a variety instruments in a “one man band” configuration called “Doctor Lee’s One Man Band.” The famous multi-instrumentalist, who is known as the lead singer for the Canadian progressive rock band Rush, was largely ignored by mall goers who didn’t seem to recognize the famous musician.
“I was just trying to American Eagle,” said 17 year old Alicia Murphy who seemed annoyed that Mr. lee was blocking the entrance to her favorite store. “You know, this is why everyone is shopping online because they don’t want to be harassed by all these people asking for money.”
According to several shoppers, Mr. Lee setup a small ensemble featuring a Ukulele, horn, a few cymbals and foot-controlled snare drum. His set included a variety of crowd-pleaders including “Smoke on the Water,” “Brown-eyed Girl,” and a particular rocking rendition of “Old MacDonald,” which pleased many children in attendance.

I wanna hang with this Garland dude one of these days.
As others pointed out in the tweets, the Norquist position seems inconsistent with R ideology: Rs are all in favor of raising the regressive sales tax and reducing income tax so that the persecuted rich will pay an even lower share of the burden of running the country. Of course, Norquist is the one who wants to drown the government in a bathtub. He apparently is an Ayn Rand fan. So destroying this country is an embedded part of his faith and Trump voters have done their best to help achieve that goal.

Except that digital offered a qualitative difference & no darkroom needed while there is nothing out there that does a guitar’s job better than a guitar. We might see them mutate again ala the shift from the Lute to the Spanish guitar - far less of a difference than that of film to digital - but they won’t go away.

Exactly, I’m sorry but I’m far from furious that the DNC showed preference to someone who actually is in their party and doesn’t shit all over it the first chance he gets. Bernie wanted to use the Democratic Party for Bernie while at the same time attacking them. Well, in a sense, an insurance plan is a sort of socialistic scheme (albeit a very bad one because insurance is run by corporations). Thus the reflexive actions by many Republicans against insurance, or people like Ron Johnson who don’t understand how it works.
Then there is the “just world fallacy” (in this case, you won’t get ill or injured unless you deserve it), a principle feature of Calvanist religious thought.

The court also said it would allow a 120-day ban on all refugees entering the US to go into effect, allowing the government to bar entry to refugee claimants who do not have any “bona fide relationship” with an American individual or entity.
Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch wrote in the ruling that they would have allowed the travel ban to go into full effect, pending a review.

Considering Bernie is not a Democrat, why wouldn’t HRC and the Democratic Party work together to defeat him? FFS, the math isn’t that difficult.
No, the “math” isn’t difficult, but the concept of Party organization (except as a convenient “establishment” whipping-boy for an ideological minority to excuse its unpopularity) seems to be an alien one to most of the Berniebots.
Hillary Clinton was a (mostly) lifelong Democrat: she worked with and for the Party all her career; was an elected Democratic Senator; served a Democratic President in his Administration, ran for President once already (on the Democratic ticket) - lost, and then spent years building up a campaign organization - as a Democrat - to try again in 2016. And won (despite the BoB crowd’s gibberings) fairly. With the help of the national Party structure she had been working with and supporting for eight years.
Bernie Sanders was a lifelong Socialist/Independent; he eschewed Party affiliation for his whole career, then jumped into the race late: as a Democrat: (despite not formally being one), and lost the delegate primaries fair and square.
Yet somehow, Hillary’s “collusion” with the DNC is somehow bad, wrong or corrupt? Do these idiots really not know how politics (pretty much everywhere) works?

And won (despite the BoB crowd’s gibberings) fairly. With the help of the national Party structure she had been working with and supporting for eight years.
Bernie Sanders was a lifelong Socialist/Independent; he eschewed Party affiliation for his whole career, then jumped into the race late: as a Democrat: (despite not formally being one), and lost the delegate primaries fair and square.
Yet somehow, Hillary’s “collusion” with the DNC is somehow bad, wrong or corrupt? Do these idiots really not know how politics (pretty much everywhere) works?
The thing is Sanders’ campaign had some shady shit going as well but everyone wants to present Bernie as this somehow ethically pure as the driven snow guy and he’s just not that. I’m not saying he’s the most corrupt politician or even corrupt but if you seriously think Sanders doesn’t do shady shit, then you’re lying to yourself.

Mixed up my wingnut EOs. Sorry.
All good. I’m with you on that one. I’m much less optimistic about it.
re: #270 Anymouse 🌹
Well, in a sense, an insurance plan is a sort of socialistic scheme (albeit a very bad one because insurance is run by corporations). Thus the reflexive actions by many Republicans against insurance, or people like Ron Johnson who don’t understand how it works.
Then there is the “just world fallacy” (in this case, you won’t get ill or injured unless you deserve it), a principle feature of Calvanist religious thought.
What makes you think Ron Johnson doesn’t understand? He understands completely; he DOESN’T CARE. The chief attribute of the few R’s who are not psychopaths is that they don’t care about an issue unless it affects someone they love; for example, those who suddenly support gay rights when their child turns out to be gay.
Of course, they also care about an issue if it affects their re-election prospects. Unfortunately due to vote suppression, voter apathy, and voter ignorance, the R’s have no reason so far to care about that now either.
The key to the immigration EO will be Roberts and Kennedy. I think we can get at least one.
Alito is worse than Scalia was IMO. Scalia would occasionally find his blind squirrel nuts.

Well, his statement about car insurance seems to indicate there is something there he doesn’t understand, but maybe that’s just the way I read it because so may other Rs have made similar statements.
In the meantime, Theresa May gets her coalition with 10 MPs from the wingnut Dominionist DUP (I originally wrote dip) party, for a promise of £1 billion extra for Northern Ireland.

SCOTUS will probably allow the immigration EO, ignoring Trump’s statements to the contrary as as political posturing.
But the point should be moot, right? The travel ban was only 90 or 120 days, temporary while Trump figured out WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON and putting EXTREME VETTING in place. He’s done that, right? Right?
In Ohio political news. We get to watch a guy that has held almost every freaking office in this state running for most likely his last…governor. I thought many voters say they hate established career politicians.
I sure hope Ohio Democrats can get someone young and with some political chops to run against this ass.
Columbus Dispatch - DeWine announces for governor, stresses better schools, fight against opioids
CEDARVILLE — Long-harbored plans finally were acknowledged Sunday afternoon featuring a candidate and down-home setting familiar to generations of Ohio Republicans.
Amid scoops of ice cream and slices of the 170 pies baked by wife Fran and her helpers, Attorney General Mike DeWine announced his candidacy for the GOP nomination for governor in 2018 at his family’s annual ice-cream social at their Greene County homestead.
Greeted by a crowd numbering around 1,000, one of Ohio’s best-known politicians stressed that he would work hard every day for Ohioans and focused, in particular, on tackling the state’s opioid addiction and death crisis and improving K-12 schools.
“Ohio is a great state. But, we have some very significant problems … the vision of the future for far too many Ohio adults is obscured by poverty, drugs and despair,” DeWine said.
“The tragedy of our state today is that too many Ohioans never will realize their dreams because they simply lack the education, the skills, the training, and in too many cases, the sobriety.
Here is an article from Ohio”s Democratic Party Chairman David Peppers that came out last week already working on a theme about that career politician issue I mentioned.
The Columbus Dispatch - Democrat chairman takes aim at DeWine as ‘status quo’
The same thing that makes Mike DeWine the favorite to win the Republican gubernatorial nomination could come back to haunt him.
At least, that’s the opinion of David Pepper, who became Ohio Democratic Party chairman after losing to DeWine in the 2014 attorney general race.
DeWine has signaled he finally will announce his candidacy on Sunday at his family’s annual ice cream social at their home near Cedarville.
Since he has held elective office nearly nonstop since 1977, including stints as U.S. senator and lieutenant governor, DeWine “is the best-known name in the field, clearly the favorite in that primary,” Pepper said Friday.
But, that same experience will prove a liability come the statewide races in 2018, which Pepper portrays as a “change election.”
“Mike DeWine does not represent change in any way. He represents the status quo as much as any official could,” the chairman said. “He is the worst-suited candidate to promise a change in direction when he has been on the scene so long.”
Ohioans are thirsting for a change of power in Columbus amid below-average job growth, a “stagnant economy,” a lethal opioid crisis and six-plus years of Republican leadership at all levels, Pepper said. “The overall model the Republicans have brought to Columbus is just not working … it’s the context for what 2018 will be about.”
The Democrat candidates — Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, State Sen. Joe Schiavoni of Youngstown, former U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton of Barberton and former state Rep. Connie Pillich of Montgomery — will talk change and promote their names. They need not spend time and money tearing down the other since they are not generally well known statewide, Pepper said. “It’s going to be obvious who the change is.”
For the Republicans, Secretary of State Jon Husted, Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor and U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci of Wadsworth will have to spend some of their resources attempting to take down DeWine as the front-runner, he said. “It’s ramping up to what could be a nasty primary.”
The Democratic candidates will stage a series of regional forums/debates this fall to better introduce themselves to Ohioans, Pepper said.
“There still could be more (candidates) … I just don’t know, honestly. We have four good candidates so as a party, we are not our there recruiting anyone. But, I wouldn’t be shocked,” he said.

Must be nice when you can bitch about baking a cake gets you all the way to SCOTUS.
Well, the cake itself may be trivial: but just remember: Plessey v. Ferguson was about buying a train ticket: and see how that decision affected things.
Not get too melodramatic, but this is potentially a huge victory for the forces of Hate: and if the SCOTUS rules for the plaintiff, I think it will have the practical effect of knocking the legal props out from under a huge number of anti-discrimination laws, by providing a “religious” exception for - AFAICT - almost any sort of discrimination: not just gay weddings. There is never going to be any shortage of bigots, and simply allowing overt bigotry to rule public commercial transactions simply on the excuse of “my religion says so” is, IMO, a gross step backwards for actual “liberty”.

All I can say about DeWine is UGH. (And there are certainly more compelling arguments against him than “status quo.”)

Absolutely. I mean, I’m talking about the bakers themselves here not the people suing. I’m sick of bigots going “my religious beliefs” won’t let me do that. You’re not a Christian baker, you’re a baker who happens to be a Christian. There’s a difference.
re: #264 Sir John Barron
Trump isn’t parroting some outlier logic here. He’s reciting GOP dogma when it comes to insurance and health insurance specifically. Where Trump is the outlier is his claim that he wont touch Medicare/Medicaid, when he’s already signaled approval to do just that - to gut those programs, which have long been on the GOP chopping block.
John Coryn (R-Asshole) has shut down his phone lines. He still has 5 yrs left of his term so you know where his loyalties lie.

The argument of “Well, they could just go back to another baker” might work in a large city, but not in small towns or rural areas.
(I dread the thought if folk around here got it in their heads they didn’t have to serve atheists because of religious convictions, I would be driving a hundred miles or more to go grocery shopping.)

Seems a good time to remind Sen. Johnson (& Republicans) of the parable inspired by 1 Corinthians: “There but for the grace of God go I”
Trump’s knowledge of the Bible begins and ends with 2 Corinthians…
The US firm that sells the cladding blocks used in the Grenfell Tower fire has suspended sales of the blocks around the world, citing inconsistency in building codes in different jurisdictions.
That inconsistency didn’t seem to be a problem before the place went up like a match.
Salvador Dali’s body ordered exhumed in a paternity case.
A court in Madrid on Monday ordered that the remains of surrealist painter Salvador Dali be exhumed over a woman’s claim that she is the daughter of the world-famous artist.
The court said the exhumation aimed “to get samples of his remains to determine whether he is the biological father of a woman from Girona (in northeastern Spain) who filed a claim to be recognised as the daughter of the artist.”
It added, “The DNA study of the painter’s corpse is necessary due to the lack of other biological or personal remains with which to perform the comparative study.”
The court said the decision could be appealed.

He can’t do that until he gets his ban. Then, when he gets the ban he won’t need to do that because he can extend it via EO every ninety days for the next three and a half years.

Within two weeks of taking office, Trump issued an executive order restricting visits from seven Muslim-majority countries ― the six previously listed plus Iraq ― for three months and suspending America’s refugee resettlement program, arguing that federal officials needed to review the vetting process in the interest of national security.
So, what progress has the administration made in “reviewing the vetting process”? The courts blocking the ban did nothing to keep the administration from improving the vetting process. They said they needed 3 months to improve it but now almost 6 months have gone by and they have no ideas for upgrading the vetting process? If they have any, why haven’t they implemented them? Wasn’t that the goal after all?
This point alone shows that the ban served no actual purpose other than allowing Trump to win points from his base for protecting them from scary brown people.
