Carryover from last thread:

You know all of this talk of radio dying brings to mind a thought I had the other day. It's hard to find good new music. I suspect that some is out there, but it's very time consuming to dig through the dross to find it.
Charles' posts are great for identifying new artists, new music, and some great old music, but I'd like to see more lizards plug in songs they like that are new -- like released in the last four years or so, when he posts one of those music threads. That would be great.
Or maybe he could just do a "Friday Night New Music Thread" with ground rules that the music posted in it really has to be new.

/just brainstorming.

A good idea. But let's be liberal with the rules of "new". If the good stuff is hard to find, it may take a while to find it, nu?

Well, they are back at it in Copenhagen. It looks like some procedural kung-fu will work its magic. The "Copenhagen Accord" looks like it will be listed as simply a submission from the COP presidency and will not be submitted as from the 20-some countries that negotiated it.

Ed Morrissey can't even bring himself to say my name, which is just pathetic:

Update II: A critic says that the report from WSLS is false, and that the law does cover this situation. But that critic doesn’t live in Virginia, and doesn’t explain how WSLS, the law enforcement agency, the state legislator, and the attorney general all got it wrong, too. After all, if the law covered the situation, the legislator wouldn’t have needed to introduce legislation to fix it and the AG, the county’s attorney, and the sheriff wouldn’t have endorsed it. At any rate, the facts to which I linked were reported by WSLS and confirmed by all of the above, all of whom are better sources than the critic in question.

This is the page Morrissey is linking to -- and it blatantly misrepresents the actual wording of the statute: Virginia Code § 18.2-32.2 - Killing a fetus; penalty - Virginia Virginia Code § 18.2-32.2 - Killing a fetus; penalty - Virginia Code :: Justia

A. Any person who unlawfully, willfully, deliberately, maliciously and with premeditation kills the fetus of another is guilty of a Class 2 felony.

B. Any person who unlawfully, willfully, deliberately and maliciously kills the fetus of another is guilty of a felony punishable by confinement in a state correctional facility for not less than five nor more than 40 years.

Notice that this page refers to a "fetus!"

If the baby was newborn -- it's not a fetus. "Fetus" is only used to refer to an early stage of development.

These people are so nuts, it's beyond belief.

From the actual Virginia government website: LIS - Code of Virginia - 32.1-249 - Definitions.

2. "Fetal death" means death prior to the complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of human conception, regardless of the duration of pregnancy; death is indicated by the fact that after such expulsion or extraction the fetus does not breathe or show any other evidence of life such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles.

Almost too crazy for words.

Embryo is used of the early stages. 'Fetus'. I believe, applies up to birth.

The Brit recommended that the Accord be accepted by the COP. Only 4 countries have objected.

Venezuela objected to the counting.

The Danish PM simply offered that any countries who wanted, then sign.

The Cuban rep made a very loud noise.

Because there is no consensus (the 4 countries objected), the Accord will not be accepted as a product of the COP, but will simply be listed as a miscellaneous document.

Good point. They're assuming that these situations they encountered were murdered but there was no investigation. If they say they can't charge them with a crime then they won't investigate it to prove otherwise. Might be other contributing factors as well.

re: #92 jaunte

The whole thing seems to be a misreading of this 18.2-71.1 part of which is written to make clear that completing the delivery of an infant will not be construed as "partial birth infanticide." It mentions umbilical cord, but I don't think it means what some people want it to mean.
[Link: law.justia.com...]

I'm still reading it like this:

A. Any person who knowingly performs partial birth infanticide and thereby kills a human infant is guilty of a Class 4 felony.

B. For the purposes of this section, "partial birth infanticide" means any deliberate act that (i) is intended to kill a human infant who has been born alive, but who has not been completely extracted or expelled from its mother, and that (ii) does kill such infant, regardless of whether death occurs before or after extraction or expulsion from its mother has been completed.

...

C. For the purposes of this section, "human infant who has been born alive" means a product of human conception that has been completely or substantially expelled or extracted from its mother, regardless of the duration of pregnancy, which after such expulsion or extraction breathes or shows any other evidence of life such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, whether or not the umbilical cord has been cut or the placenta is attached.

Class B felony in VA is max. 10 years. Looking around I've seen probabtion for some cases of infanticide around the country.

It's obvious that the statute I posted is the one that applies in this case. This was NOT a fetus -- and this:

Any person who unlawfully, willfully, deliberately, maliciously and with premeditation kills the fetus of another...

Is very clearly not the case. The mother is accused of killing her own newborn baby. So it's not just wrong -- it's doubly wrong.

Right, but killing the "fetus of another" would apply to physicians performing abortions. . . .

I think there must be a recurring cycle that exists among email forwards. Earlier today I saw a friend post something about Obama's being chair of the UN Security Council being unconstitutional. At first I thought it was a new thing. But then I realized it was an old story being recycled. Those with an undying need to believe the unbelievable will accept anything brought their way that confirms their preconceived notions. It's the way of the world. It sucks. That's why we need to shine light into that batshit darkness.

Like sending the email back to the sender with a link to Snopes and a short note saying: "Don't send me this shit."?

But most of whom they sent it to didn't know me from a hole in the wall. By asking them to send my message to all of their friends, they were getting their message of what I said. Which would carry far greater weight. I ended up becoming the new forward! Fight fire with fire when it comes to using the medium. Truth needs to be held to tightly as a prized possession. Thanks! Honestly, this site has been a tremendous help in rooting out the stupid and sometimes downright dangerous nonsense that's spreading in conservative circles. I know that some of what I say may fall on deaf ears, but I also have friends who are also self defined as conservative who are still critical thinkers. They're the ones I'm aiming for. We're in a fight for truth and honesty, both politically and scientifically (and dare I say spiritually). We all need to do what we can to help our friends, whoever is in our circle of influence, to see the world more accurately. All of us can do this.

Paul Robeson's amazing voice!

He's never been forgiven for his politics:

"During the 1940s, Robeson’s black nationalist and anti-colonialist activities brought him to the attention of Senator Joseph McCarthy. Despite his contributions as an entertainer to the Allied forces during World War II, Robeson was singled out as a major threat to American democracy. Every attempt was made to silence and discredit him, and in 1950 the persecution reached a climax when his passport was revoked. He could no longer travel abroad to perform, and his career was stifled. Of this time, Lloyd Brown, a writer and long-time colleague of Robeson, states: “Paul Robeson was the most persecuted, the most ostracized, the most condemned black man in America, then or ever. It was eight years before his passport was reinstated. "

And I don't buy this unmitigated bullshit that it's Israel's fault by virtue of their bigger and more disciplined military constantly harassing and opressing the poor Palestinians in the role of plucky underdogs. If I even bought into that line of horseshit, I'd have to be fucking stupid enough to belive that the PLO, Hamas or AlAqsa Martyrs brigade would miraculously be well behaved because they had an abundance of T-72s or MiG29s at their disposal....since the playing field was supposedly level.

The minister from UK will, I think, do the last ditch move. One thing that puzzles me is that the Secretary General is there, and it seems to me that he could, if he really wanted to, open up additional proceedings besides the COP15.

This Accord which Obama et. al. negotiated is the first document in 12 years that has had both the US and all the other major nations, including China, agree to, wrt AGW (or anything else that I can think of... the LOTS treaty maybe the other.) It is feared, I suppose, that if this Accord fails then there is little hope of any others.

There are some here who might cheer that, but I believe in the end it is better to try to do something than nothing.

Looking at it from their position it seems rather foolish to take a hard stand. Unless they have ulterior motives but that would only be limited to the oil producing nations like Uganda, Saudi Arabia, China, et al, who really don't give a damn. The other poor nations stands to benefit from the proposed 100 billion dollar funding pot.

And like you state it could be the first joint document including the US in 12 years. It's a step in the right direction towards something where nothing is being done at present time. And by nothing I mean zero, zilch, nada. It's almost like they want to "take their toys and go home."

Otherwise, I think people on the anti-AGW side would like to see this fail. So in a way, the alleged pro-AGW delegates at this meeting who do not want a compromise would be handing the anti-AGW side a victory.

The Bolivarians (Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua) are trying to foment dissent with the purpose of splintering off any country that is sitting on the edge but is going along with the larger group (the 188.)

Because of the origins of the UNFCCC, any agreement takes a complete consensus of all parties. As there are now 192 (plus one other I think), that is getting to be an impossible task.

The Bolivarians know this is the achilles heel of the UNFCCC, and are exploiting it.

Sad, because there are many small nations who would benefit from the REDD. Because of the lack of mitigation, some of the small island nations are sunk (literally), but there are many small nations with forests, for example, who could use the finances to keep their forest from being harvested.

Ed seems to be lacking in spine and integrity.

Ed made a deal with the devil when he first started writing for HotAir. It's been all downhill ever since. I felt bad for him in the beginning, because he actually had a brain and used to use it, once upon a time, but his sell-out is complete. I blame him more than I do someone who is just a troglodyte (like Ace o Spades) because Ed once upon a time did seem to know better.

He's despicable.

Ugh, that is a bitch. :( I have Vista and I hate it like poison. My next primary laptop is probably going to be a custom machine that has XP installed, don't like Vista, and don't want 7 to kill my fussy art tools and classic games.

Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, and Nicaragua of course being Bolivarian nations. Rather thick headed people.

No, I don't think a short break will lead anyone to change their minds. I forgot to add that China will go home happy if this fails. That was their plan all along.

The biggest stumbling block with China is that they don't want to allow the transparency required with COP15. They are still a rather closed society and remain "The Peoples' Republic of." Sudan is their puppet.
