Wingnut Fail of the Day: Obama Didn’t Proclaim Easter (But Neither Has Any Other President)
There’s yet another right wing fake outrage brewing, and again it’s about painting President Obama as a Muslim-loving “other” who hates good American Christians.
The reliably xenophobic Fox Nation is the source: WH Fails to Release Easter Proclamation.
President Obama failed to release a statement or a proclamation recognizing the national observance of Easter Sunday, Christianity’s most sacred holiday.
By comparison, the White House has released statements recognizing the observance of major Muslim holidays and released statements in 2010 on Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Hajj, and Eid-ul-Adha.
See where they’re going with this?
I guess the Easter Prayer Breakfast wasn’t enough. Obama must “proclaim.”
But wait — it gets even more ridiculous. Here’s the complete list of official Presidential Proclamations, going back to 1789. I scanned back to 1980, and didn’t find a single Presidential Easter proclamation. That’s right. Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush — none of them issued official Easter proclamations.
And that’s why this silly Fox News-inspired fake outrage is our wingnut Fail of the Day.
