Yes, and Trump is one of their own, a media personality. The fact that he occupies the White House simply enhances his media profile. We need a national seminar on civics, ethics, and law.
My head is hurting from all the spinning going on…. This is the top post on /r/the_donald right now….
The meeting was a setup. The original intent was to entrap the Trump campaign. It failed. Nevertheless, the Obama administration used it as a pretext to use the American intelligence apparatus to spy on the Trump campaign, while pretending to be looking into Russian interference. Thus, the “Obama wiretapping” actually happened. This is confirmed, and probably illegal, but whatever. So the media is now literally reporting that a failed election-time Democrat plot IS PROOF of a Russian conspiracy. They’re doing this and basically praying nobody does a background check on the people who actually set the meeting up (because they’re directly tied to the Clintons, the Obama administration, and Fusion GPS)
So somehow the Democrats did all this so they could lose? But they didn’t think they would lose so why bother? But they did it for the wiretap to prove Russian conspiracy, which Obama did nothing about (according to Trump) because he thought Clinton was going to win. But maybe they knew he was going to win but did this to discredit him later, so he’d be impeached and Republicans would be disgraced. Oh yeah, that must be it. The long con. It’s brilliant. (/sarcasm)
It’s no wonder his approval ratings aren’t budging despite all of this. Nothing is going to change these people’s minds. Nothing.

to the media’s credit, i’ve listened a to a few discussions about the meeting, and there is normally at least somebody who points out we have no reason to believe that the meeting was as completely successful as the Russian government lawyer stated it would be initially. National Review comment sections are a good example of why I troll conservative forums: it’s useful to understand the kind of mental weaknesses that cause people to become Trump cock holsters. Morning,
I have the Today show on and weatherman Al Roker said he just got a report the huge piece of the Larsen Ice Shelf of Antarctic ice everyone was thinking was going to break off in a year or so just broke off today.
He said it has the volume of water of Lake Erie and it is an indication - pause - of something serious going on - pause - with the climate.
It appears Al wanted to say a little more but realized it is a hot button issue and he had better back down what he said.
Here we go. And we have blockheads in politics denying it all.

Welp, there’s this island in the Carolinas that’s slowly getting swallowed up by the rising sea levels.
The people on this island voted for Trump overwhelmingly; and now they’re whining for help from Trump that will never come.
Karma is a b***h.
But Siegert is quick to point out that the calving of the new iceberg is not a sign that the ice shelf is about to disintegrate, stressing that ice shelves naturally break up as they extend further out into the ocean. “I am not unduly concerned about it - it is not the first mega iceberg ever to have formed,” he said.
[…]
Luckman said that while the Larsen C ice shelf might continue to shed icebergs, it might regrow. Nevertheless previous research by the team has suggested that the remaining ice shelf is likely less stable now that the iceberg has calved, although it is unlikely the event would have any short-term effects. “We will have to wait years or decades to know what will happen to the remainder of Larsen C,” he said, pointing out that it took seven years after the release of a large iceberg from Larsen B before the ice shelf became unstable and disintegrated.

Lewandowski and Trump spawn lawyer are busy trying to claim the revelations (from Junior himself) that he met with Russians after spending more than a year denying there was any such meeting are nothing and that there was no collusion and there wasn’t any criminality involved.
Except for the part dealing with intent. It’s the intent to commit the crime. It was the intent to get oppo research from a foreign person/entity (Russian intel via a Russian national). That he was unsuccessful in this instance is besides the point.
But wait, there’s more. Junior then admitted that he had additional meetings with other Russians, but they were of the informal variety.

I think the reason Trump favors Jared over Donny Jr. is that Jared and Donald have mutual financial dependencies…that 500 million dollar loan from Qatar was meant to buoy both of their books. Qatar gives Jared money, Jared makes a loan on paper to Trump, Trump recycles the loan within his companies, and Qatar is out a half billion.
If Jared goes down, the entire financial fraud that is Trump/Kushner enterprises will fall apart.
Compared to such a sleazy asshole as you Hillary is Mary Poppins!

“I get the fact that the Russian intel services could figure out how to manipulate and use the bots,” Virginia Sen. Mark Warner told Pod Save America recently. “Whether they could know how to target states and levels of voters that the Democrats weren’t even aware (of) really raises some questions … How did they know to go to that level of detail in those kinds of jurisdictions?”
The Russians targeted women and African-Americans in two of the three decisive states, Wisconsin and Michigan, “where the Democrats were too brain dead to realize those states were even in play,” Warner said.
Twitter’s and Facebook’s search engines in those states were overwhelmed, he said, meaning they couldn’t discern fake news from real news.
“On your news feed, you suddenly got … ‘Hillary Clinton’s sick’ or ‘Hillary Clinton’s stealing money from the State Department,’” said Warner.

It’s a really complicated situation, and clogged with real and exaggerated waste, but there is a hard need to maintain an aviation and naval production base. It was very good that Boeing was still in business in 1940.

But the Russians are ticked off their Maryland and New York dachas haven’t been returned (Obama shut them down and expelled their occupants among other diplomats) and are threatening to retaliate in some unspecified way. Rachel Maddow was talking about that last night. She was saying so many people want a decision on Trump now but that is wrong. Every piece of evidence needs to be checked and double-checked and all t’s crossed and i’s dotted properly so there is no denial about the findings. It needs to fit in nicely with the historical records so that it will be known forever.

I really think in hindsight we were hurt by that people had Clinton fatigue. It sucks because she was a good candidate but we can’t underestimate how many people including many on our own side detest her. I don’t see the 2020 nominee having that problem and I think Trump may struggle actually having to defend his policies. But I don’t know. In the Summer of ‘77 I’d just moved to NYC, and my band did a lot of recording at a studio on 54th called the Sound Palace (it was later bought by the Hit Factory). We used to go in on open night time sessions - hit the studio at 8 and work until 3 or 4 in the morning, or whenever we wrapped on the tracks we were working on at the time.
We’d usually break around midnight to head to a pub called Connolly’s down the block (still there, actually), right across the street from 54. We’d grab the booth in the front window, order beers and burgers and watch the crowd outside groveling to get into the club. The level of humiliation those dopes would go through to get into a stupid club was pretty sad, but it was a sight to see.
I saw Trump arrive a few times. Steve Rubell (54’s owner, who later went to prison IIRC) would always come out and usher Trump in personally.
I also saw Linda Ronstadt face plant on the sidewalk getting out of her limo one night, but she never ran for president so I’ll leave that alone. :)

We never have anyone like Trump here in Virginia reach a level of Trump’s success.
The first courts-martial was handed down in the Marines United case (goes to my article here at LGF of image sharing of nude military and civilian women by active duty and veterans).
The sentence was reduction of three ranks, ten days in the brig, and loss of two-thirds of a month’s salary.
Since the private Facebook page was shuttered, forks of it have appeared.
Now a massive file dump to a file-sharing site of photographs and videos of nude service women (including one apparently unconscious) has appeared: thousands of photographs and videos.
Some have also shown up for sale on a dark-web site. Numerous “private drives” on Facebook have also been uncovered with the original material from Marines.
Five months after the Marines United nude-photo scandal broke, there is a new group of victims, including an unconscious woman who was photographed naked.
Explicit videos and photos of female servicemembers were posted last week in a Dropbox drive called “Girls of MU” and were shared in a closed Facebook group called Mike Uniform. (“Mike Uniform” is the U.S. military’s phonetic alphabet for M.U., the abbreviation for “Marines United.”)
Previous caches contained few videos, unlike the Mike Uniform cache, which indicates there are new victims. The shared drive contains 3,863 photos and videos, ranging from professional pornography to homemade videos and selfies. Some are screenshots of temporary Snapchat stories, and others are photos of a woman in a U.S. Marine Corps uniform engaging in oral sex and posing afterward.
The photo of the unconscious woman, like most of the videos in the new drive, was not posted in the original shared drives on the nude-photo-sharing Facebook page Marines United, nor on its descendant groups. The woman was photographed by a man whose reflection is visible in a mirror, though his face is unclear.

The thing about Pence in Indiana is that he was savvy enough to get elected, but once he got there and he let his freak flag fly, people were so revolted by him that he likely would have been voted out had he not jumped ship and hitched his wagon to the Trump train dumpster fire. He has a certain amount of political cunning, but he has no capability to think ahead far enough to capitalize on it. Right-wingers in Indiana will vote for anyone or anything with an (R) in front of their name, so the complete disaster that was his term as governor cannot be overstated.

What I find telling is the people who knew Trump the most i.e. New Yorkers especially people in NYC rejected him overwhelmingly. That to me really says something and that people who only really knew him as “that success business guy on the Apprentice” embraced him the most.
New Yorkers would barely give Trump the time of day if they met him. High society has rejected/disdained Trumps since his daddy was alive.

Remember Donald Trump Jr.’s FIRST LIE, when he said he only met Russian lady lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya in Trump Tower with Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner so they could deal with pressing Bouncy Russian Baby problems? Guess whose lie that actually was? Surprise, it was the White House’s lie! More specifically, it was the only lie White House staff came up with on the plane back from the G20 that Daddy Donald Trump would sign off on. Does that sound like a cover-up to you? Because it sounds like a cover-up to us! We’re going to say it right here at the outset, and we’ll return to it later, but Junior better hope there aren’t “tapes” or “wire tapps” of his little meeting!

Recently I saw a video where a defence analyst was asked the purpose of the F-35.
His answer? “To keep Lockheed-Martin in business.”
Pretty much. The Northrup Grumman B21 project has at least some need (the bomber fleet needs replacing) but they know damned well that if they hadn’t gotten foreign sales of the F-35 it would have been toast long ago. Given Lockheed’s history of bribery with the F-104 sales, it just makes me go Hmmm.

As noted in the article, Erik Prince wrote an op-ed some time ago where he stated what Afghanistan needed was someone in our government to appoint a viceroy to rule over the nation. (Presumably after overthrowing its government.)
They also note that libertarian Peter Theil wants to reorganise the US intelligence apparatus (and is now on the National Security Council). Presumably that would be so rich jerks like Peter Theil can use the intelligence community to make more money for rich jerks like Peter Theil.

They realized that they can’t replace the A-10, so that’s off the replacement list. Nothing else in the world can do what the A-10 does with the same kind of ruthless efficiency.
Every time the A-10 is on the chopping block, the response is always the same: identify the plane that can do the same thing the A-10 does for the same value. Every time the response is: nope, there isn’t anything.
The F-35 doesn’t have the gun or survivability in the CAS role that the A-10 does. Nothing does.
There’s a reason that the B-52 is still around. Nothing else can do what it does - range, payload, flexibility. B-2 costs many times more, but lacks payload. B-1 has speed, but not payload.

For that matter, the F-35 doesn’t have the capability to truly replace any of the planes on that list. “A jack of all trades, master of none” is a great tool to have, but in warfare, it is better to keep at least a few of the “masters” of their trade still in service. I’ve said that before about the F-35, and I’ll keep saying it until they either get rid of the damn thing, or at least come to their senses and start other projects to update our other aircraft appropriately.

David Daleiden’s lawyers have been held in contempt of court:
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A federal judge said Tuesday he will hold attorneys for the head of an anti-abortion group in contempt after links to videos that the judge had barred from release appeared on their website.
U.S. District Court Judge William Orrick said attorneys Steve Cooley, a former district attorney in Los Angeles, and Brentford Ferreira had violated his injunction.
The two attorneys represent David Daleiden, a leader of the Center for Medical Progress. The center has released several secretly recorded videos that it says show Planned Parenthood employees selling fetal tissue for profit, which is illegal. Planned Parenthood said the videos were deceptively edited to support false claims.

The FCC will not weed out the stolen identities used to write love letters on behalf of telecom companies to kill Net Neutrality.
thedailybeast.com
In the meantime, tech companies are launching a “day of action” on Net Neutrality:
politico.com
The biggest U.S. internet companies aim to marshal their millions of users Wednesday in the fight to preserve net-neutrality rules — a summon-the-masses strategy that successfully killed Hollywood-backed anti-piracy legislation five years ago but which may carry less power in today’s GOP-dominated Washington.
Google, Facebook, Amazon and Snapchat, along with an array of other websites and apps taking part in the “day of action,” believe a firehose of internet users can convince President Donald Trump’s Federal Communications Commission to abandon its plan to gut the rules. The tactic mirrors the web “blackout” deployed in early 2012 to protest the Stop Online Piracy Act, which lawmakers dropped after receiving a flood of phone calls and emails.

Yeah, I’d say the halcyon days of Studio 54 was when Trump was probably first noticed by the national media - Studio 54 was briefly the talk of the nation, usually for salacious reasons. I dimly remember it being talked about on ABC News one evening, and that was before the place got shut down. I also rather dimly remember a brief segment on the Sex Pistols and their hapless US tour.
I was one of those seeing the Sex Pistols opening their tour in Homestead PA in December of 1977. I never saw such a bunch of punk fans until then. News trucks covered it (this was before CNN). The crowd went nuts when McLaren came out to introduce the band. You could smell the pot fumes. Fans slam danced in the aisles and spit at the band…

It made quite an impression on me at a young age. I’ve shown some of my more advanced English students Taxi Driver, and some of them simply cannot believe that Times Square once really looked like that. I tell them, “Yeah, it totally was” and they’re genuinely shocked.
Remember that once David Letterman’s early stand-by punchlines usually included a reference to “the hookers in Times Square.”

This has been my contention for a while. I think this is a really long con and he’s been being groomed for a while. His old tweets going after Obama on every policy position seem beyond his comprehension and attention. I would not be surprised if they were in play for Birther insanity. The more sanctions that were put in place, I’d bet the more intense the Kremlin’s disruptive tactics were and they targeted all types of GOPers based on shared ideology and grievances (Flynn, Pence, Turnip, Stein, Stone, Rohrabacher).

LOL. Got me on that one and I dated myself! I was first a secretary and then an administrative assistant for the CEO of a psych hospital. During all those years, it was a bad thing to piss me off because I had the power to make the boss look bad or good to the higher ups simply based on their writing of memos. If I was treated decently, those unintelligible memos were turned into masterpieces that made them look smarter than they were, said what they wanted to say, not what they actually wrote down, and made them look good, giving them a chance at promotion. Piss me off and treat me like dirt? Get memos sent to the higher ups that the boss signed (without reviewing) that were typed exactly as they wrote them. They could never understand why they were passed up for promotions. Yeah, I’m evil like that.

It appears Al wanted to say a little more but realized it is a hot button issue and he had better back down what he said.

re: #355 MsJ
He raises all kinds of interesting points, starting with the most obvious - the full and unredacted email chain. He cut out header info, and didn’t identify all the people on the email (daddy, ivanka, etc.) when we know that Kushner and Manafort were included. The sequence of emails also appears incomplete given that we know that this was a reschedule/adjusted schedule on the meeting, which means those two buffoons were in the loop before this.
How would anyone know the full scope here? Demanding the full email server and the ability to search both by sender and recipient. They’d also check the metadata to see what other tidbits these con artists were up to and how Junior was really responding.
Nothing about what Junior did here is legal, or legit, and this mess means a lot more work for the lawyers.
His lawyer must be pitching a fit over Junior’s idiotic postings, as well as the fact that he stated he’d do things differently (which I read to mean that he’d do things differently so as not to get caught, not that he’d choose to do things differently to avoid any criminal activity).
But if you read it that he’d do things differently, then that’s admission against his self-interest that he knows something was wrong, and he’d avoid that behavior in the future. With the crimes involved relating to intent, this is critical bit of evidence.
The emails are plenty of evidence. Timing of meetings on the 9th are also evidence, and Trump’s tweets from that day, and following tweets from Trump, his cronies (such as Rudy), are circumstantial evidence that they thought the Trump Jr./Manafort/Kushner meeting would pay dividends going forward.

Trump’s lawyer Kasowitz is going to have a hell of a time trying to defend Fatass on Russia if he can’t look at half the evidence.
The ongoing investigations into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia involve reams of classified material. Yet Marc Kasowitz, the New York lawyer whom President Donald Trump has hired to defend him in these inquiries, told ProPublica through a spokesman that he does not have a security clearance — the prerequisite for access to government secrets. Nor does he expect to seek one.
Several lawyers who have represented presidents and senior government officials said they could not imagine handling a case so suffused with sensitive material without a clearance.
“No question in my mind — in order to represent President Trump in this matter you would have to get a very high level of clearance because of the allegations involving Russia,” said Robert Bennett, who served as President Bill Clinton’s personal lawyer. Like many Washington lawyers, Bennett has held security clearances throughout his career.
As the spotlight on Russia intensifies with new email disclosures that his son, son-in-law, and then-campaign manager met in June 2016 with a Russian attorney who promised damaging information about Hillary Clinton, Kasowitz’s lack of a security clearance could hinder the president’s legal and political response to the scandal.
One possible explanation for Kasowitz’s decision not to pursue a clearance: He might have trouble getting one.

I saw The Kinks three times! One time they said happy birthday to my boyfriend (the biggest Kinks fan ever, had all the albums and all the bootlegs) because I wrote to them (at three places) and said we’d be in the audience on his bday. Waited at the backdoor to say hi, and all the other groupies thought it was Dave Davies’ bday because it was the same first name.
Been to the stadium, but it was to see The Angels.
I think I saw the “Celluloid Heroes” tour. Ray and Dave stayed on opposite ends of the stage that night—didn’t seem to be getting along. But the tension resulted in a great, super-charged show.

Great song, though.
In retrospect, The Jam never really broke through in the US because Weller mostly wrote about stuff that no one outside of England knew about or understood.
The Clash, on the other hand, went global - because Strummer and Jones had a handle on taking stories of class warfare in the UK and making them universal.
Can’t take anything away from those early Jam singles, though. And they were some snappy dressers, to boot. They don’t call Weller ‘The Modfather’ for nothing.
