Samantha Bee Apologizes for Calling Ivanka Trump the C-Word - All Videos From Her Latest Show Are Deleted From YouTube

Politics • Views: 35,881

Here we go again. Today the Trump gang used the power of the presidency to attack Samantha Bee for applying the “C word” to Ivanka Trump in her latest show.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Bee’s language was “vile and vicious.”

“The collective silence by the left and its media allies is appalling. Her disgusting comments and show are not fit for broadcast, and executives at Time Warner and TBS must demonstrate that such explicit profanity about female members of this administration will not be condoned on its network,” Sanders said.

Imagine what it’s like when Trump and his cronies call out the right wing mob like this to attack one of their perceived enemies. Samantha apologized not long after this call to arms by Trump’s mouthpieces.

And if you take a look at our previous post, you’ll see that the video of her segment about Rudy Giuliani is now unavailable.

All the videos from her latest show have been deleted from YouTube, even the ones that had nothing to do with Ivanka Trump.

This is an incredibly bad precedent being set here.

Repeating this from the previous thread, but…

So they literally managed to ‘both sides same thing’ Sam Bee’s segment toward Roseanne’s outbursts and the millions of other vile epithets GOP figures hurl every day, and now we might be on the brink of her losing her job because context doesn’t matter anymore, and we’re constantly dancing on the head of the GOP’s pin consistently and forever thanks to feckless enabling?

After everything else today? I’m fucking done. Fuck it.

I’m tuning out before I strangle a fucking cat or something. Maybe I can blame that on Ambien and get taken seriously.

More of that Frank Wilhoit thought, from Crooked Timber (comment #26)

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit:

There must be in-groups whom the law protectes but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

There is nothing more or else to it, and there never has been, in any place or time.

For millenia, conservatism had no name, because no other model of polity had ever been proposed. “The king can do no wrong.” In practice, this immunity was always extended to the king’s friends, however fungible a group they might have been. Today, we still have the king’s friends even where there is no king (dictator, etc.). Another way to look at this is that the king is a faction, rather than an individual.

As the core proposition of conservatism is indefensible if stated baldly, it has always been surrounded by an elaborate backwash of pseudophilosophy, amounting over time to millions of pages. All such is axiomatically dishonest and undeserving of serious scrutiny. Today, the accelerating de-education of humanity has reached a point where the market for pseudophilosophy is vanishing; it is, as The Kids Say These Days, tl;dr . All that is left is the core proposition itself — backed up, no longer by misdirection and sophistry, but by violence.

So this tells us what anti-conservatism must be: the proposition that the law cannot protect anyone unless it binds everyone, and cannot bind anyone unless it protects everyone.

Frank Wilhoit: “Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition …There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.” This seems increasingly true.

This is what American law-enforcement has traditionally been for. Improving communication with the Internet, and body-cams, have made it harder for Conservatives to be themselves in public.

If I learned one thing being a Catholic schoolboy it was learning how to think and see things as others do. It can be very helpful. Understand other’s viewpoint. They do not think or see things the same way as you.

re: #37 Charles Johnson

Aussies and Brits look at us Americans getting the vapors over the C-word and just shake their heads.

With all due respect, my take is that the c-word is just as vulgar and offensive as the n-word, and often used by misogynists for the same reasons racists use the n-word, to demean and dehumanize an entire group of people (and I understand Samatha wasn’t doing that), and that Samatha could’ve insulted Ivanka in a more creative, funny manner, so I think her apology is appropriate. And that is all I have to say about it. A much more serious topic, which is unfortunately going to sink beneath the waves of the Roseanne v. Samantha battle, is the nearly 5k deaths in Puerto Rico due to Hurricane Maria, which should be a major scandal but somehow isn’t.

As I said in the last thread. The “C” word is very much like the “N” word. I think you and everyone can figure out what that means.

If a woman is calling another woman that word, it’s much ado over nothing.

But if it’s a guy saying that? I could maybe understand the outrage perhaps.

I have only one comment. You are looking at it only through your eyes. Put on your outraged conservative thinking cap for a moment and look at it that way.

If I learned one thing being a Catholic schoolboy it was learning how to think and see things as others do. It can be very helpful. Understand other’s viewpoint. They do not think or see things the same way as you.

And that reminds me. I am going to watch Nicole Wallace at 4 PM Eastern on MSNBC. Being that she is a conservative that hates Trump, I think it will interesting to see how she handles this.

i think i know what you mean and we may be heading into the weeds here

if im getting you, the people using the word “boy” dont think its vulgar
it’s just a three letter word meaning young male
objectively, that is not what they mean and it’s not how they’re using it. they’re going for one of its other definitions while masking in its innocence.
of course they arent going to be offended
any more than they’d admit they are using it in a racist way

For 8 years, we were told that any time the man so much as belched, it was a hit to “public civility” and the degradation of such was because he was setting a “low standard” with his behavior. But we get a two-bit conman whose response to being caught on tape saying “Grab’em by the pussy” is to argue that that was supposed to be private in the White House…and the same crowd moans that it’s his opponents who are the ones who are hurting “public civility.”

No offense, but I’m sort of curious why those getting the vapors over the use of “cunt” don’t bat an eye if (for example) I were to call Trump a “dick.” Both are slang terms for genitalia, but one gets nods of agreement while the other leads (at best) to uncomfortable silence or (at worst) howls of outrage and a lot of lecturing.

The basic reason is the same that the insult “honky” doesn’t cause the same outrage as the n-word. I think you can connect the dots from there.

So if Bee had said “bitch” instead of “cunt,” would the outrage have been as loud? Would we be as hesitant to defend her?

Probably. They were looking for a “win” after Roseanne so they would do the faux outrage dance at any naughty word thrown at Ivanka. I think most people are defending her, but the c word seems to carry a lot of weight in the U.S. as a vulgarity period. And then it carries sexist weight when it’s said by men towards a women.
I do think Bitch would have most people making the same basic arguments in this particular situation though.

Probably Yes and No, respectively.
The use of the presumably-more-offensive “cunt” is what makes the difference, though: maybe not here: but “here” (no offense meant, Lizards) isn’t where the main debate is going to take place…..

I’m surprised no one seems to have brought up Harry Truman yet in this context: he once publicly threatened to beat up a music critic who panned his daughter Margaret’s concert - and never apologized AFAICR - but then old Harry was accustomed to speaking out for himself (and made it clear he was reacting as a father, not the President): I notice The Donald has been personally silent (?) about the Sam Bee flap… typical.

In this particular case, I hope Bee’s final statement is along these lines: “I am sorry if anyone was offended by my use of this word. I should have realize people would use it to distract from the real issue, that Trump is evil, and his daughter refuses to do anything about issues that affect those she claims to care about, but I am angry and it got the better of me. The outrage from the right would be just as deafening. It’s not about the word, it’s about her scathing attack on Ivanka Trump.

I would be right there still defending her. Someone else gave the reason above: There is a difference between a woman attacking another woman with those words, and a man doing it.

Yes. It was needed. The faux outrage from conservatives is exactly that, faux. They get the vapours over a word and not the policies promoted by the maladministration.

They want to police speech, because it is conservatism that is really PC (it is projection with them always). Assertive four-letter-words get your attention precisely for their shock value.

Look at the faux outrage over Kirsten Gillibrand over using the word “fuck.”

The supposed defenders of the free market should let the free market decide: If Samantha Bee’s audience is truly outraged, they will vote with their dollars and go somewhere else.

That’s not what this is about. It is about policing our words, which indirectly polices our thoughts (see 1984 for a fictionalised example of that).

These days, when the 38-year-old Miranda speaks, the nation listens, or rather, the cross-section of Americans young and old, who might gravitate to a sunny, tolerant personality with a rare talent for lashing together two American passions: hip-hop and revolutionary history. He’s amassed 2.4 million Twitter followers — an account that makes things happen. After Hurricane Maria knocked out essential services on Puerto Rico, for example, Miranda tweeted the appeal of a person whose mother needed dialysis and got the machine to her. I understand what you’re saying but I also understand what the no ammo crowd is trying to say. Will the cult lie and make up an outrage out of thin air? Yes. Always yes. We can’t be held hostage by them and fears about how they will react.
But in this specific instance they had a hook, there was one and it was a loaded word (that was not sexist in use). Sam goes after them this hard on every show. It wasn’t just her going after Ivanka, they needed a dirty word after Roseanne made them feel like uber victims who were being silenced. The timing means a lot. No. Samantha Bee is not a politician. She is a comedienne.

And if anyone thinks a defense against ‘feckless’ wouldn’t be easier and shows it was nothing than wingnut butthurt as opposed defending the “C” word, you are fooling yourself.

Once again I point you toward Michelle Obama’s sleeveless dress. Conservative outrage is not based in reality. Conservatives are still going on about Barack Obama’s alleged budget-busting vacations and “apology tour.”

You don’t think Sam is going to be used as an example come election time and when needed?

They will be running against Clinton and Obama, not Bee. The outrage du jour will be entirely different by then. There is no appeasing conservatism. They are mad at Bee for attacking Ivanka Trump. They disingenuously claim that Rosanne Barr’s shot at Valerie Jarrett was not racist because “she’s Iranian.” (Iran has a super-secret melanin destructor ray apparently.)

Later! I got stuff to do. Not much more to say about this anyway. We can debate ideal or real. I tend to go off in the direction of real and hope that we can get to ideal.

Catch ya later… .

But no, I don’t think anyone would have given a damn about that segment without the fire words.

So we’re back to arguing that full-blow racism is on par with a naughty word. And so long as we keep allowing ourselves to get involved in that argument, they’re going to keep gaining ground on us. Why? Because the wingnuts and media don’t mention the debate we’re engaged in, they show us a uniform group for the purposes of arguing “BOTH SIDES!”

To the subject of this thread:

Samantha Bee Sorry for Thinking First Amendment Somehow Applies to Her. Her Mistake Obviously (goes to Wonkette, more at the link):

Sam Bee has issued an apology she should not have had to issue:

I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.

— Samantha Bee (@iamsambee) May 31, 2018

Oh god, this day is ridiculous. Sam Bee, Wonkette loves you, and we are sorry people who are idiots thought that was necessary.

Editrix Rebecca already weighed in this morning on why this non-troversy is stupid and manufactured and only happened because stupid conservatives are VERY VERY SAD their beloved bigot folk hero Roseanne got herself canceled, just because she tweeted vile and racist things, which nobody could have seen coming.

Yet here we are. CNN has been going apeshit all afternoon about how Samantha Bee should say she’s sorry that she (a woman) used a word (“cunt”) that is very much a word she (a woman) can say if she wants. (We are a gay man, therefore that’s not our word. “Faggot” is, though, SMILEY EMOTICON.) She used it to describe the BEHAVIOR of another woman, Ivanka Trump, who YET AGAIN is being tone-deaf and doing absolutely nothing in her role as First Lady First Daughter/White House Job Haver to restrain the worst instincts of her shithole father. And of all the women in his life, SHE’S THE ONE WHO COULD DO SOMETHING, if she cared. If she wasn’t so “feckless,” if you will.

In my opinion, Franken resigning (despite being a powerful voice for the left) was the proper thing to do. He took that controversy off the table for the GOP to use in the elections (Franken was considering more than his own political future).

Again, no.

There is nothing that anyone can do or not do that will take something ‘off the table’ for cult attacks. Al Franken resigning or staying in, Samantha Bee apologising or not - what they do or do not do does not alter the possible attacks and responses from the cult in any way.

This is because the enemy is a cult. What happens in objective reality does not matter to what they can say. Whether Franken resigns or not, they can and will attack Democrats for anything they like. It does not matter what he does, which is why whether or not he resigns should have nothing to do with what the enemy might do. Their attacks literally include the widely-believed charge that Hillary Clinton ran a child sex ring out of a pizza shop basement. Should Hillary have resigned to prevent them using that attack? Should she publicly disavow pizza to ‘take that off the table’?

I cannot state this clearly enough. What we do - what positions we take, what actions we support, what policies we enact - must take into account many things, but most importantly, must take into account what is true, what is right, and what is just. What must never - NEVER - be considered is ‘what conservatives will say about it’. We do not share the same reality. We can’t ignore their reality, because it impacts ours, but the reverse is not true. We must overcome and drown out their reality, but we cannot modify our actions to try to influence it. That is not possible. You wouldn’t take a section out of your doctoral thesis because your neighbour’s cat wouldn’t like it. The same principle applies here.

I don’t disagree with you there. I’m just more annoyed the focus is on the word rather than what Samantha Bee was rightfully angry at Ivanka about. That’s what sucks here. It’s not that we have to apologize and they don’t and that does suck believe me. No, what sucks is the discussion is about Samantha Bee calling Ivanka the c-word rather than Ivanka being a shitty fraud who acts like she’s a moral and upstanding person who does nothing while her father’s immigration policies separate families.

What I’m getting hung up about is the society that keeps putting so much weight on that word. It’s a media that says “shit” is acceptable on TV, but “fuck” is still verboten.

Also, because it was the Washington Post and he was super-annoyed at them… he cancelled his subscription.

THat’s not a defense of Melania btw but I’d love it if she helped put some of the final nails in his back. Bonus points if she exposes some really embarrassing stuff about him too i.e. actually crying about the criticism of him.

Oh to be clear I’m really not arguing anything. I see both sides (no, not like that) of what folks are saying here. All views seem nuanced with good intentions. I was just answering your questions as I perceive it.

I could give a fuck either way honestly regarding if Sam should have said it, if she should have apologized and all that. I’ve seen it so many times that I’m just like, whatever. We have a Nazi traitor as President so I’m just not surprised by anything I guess and the playbook is so old. I don’t have anything useful here.

But I definitely have conflicted feelings generally about how we fight them and I don’t think it’s as simple as hitting like they do or conceding to their playing field. I still think about this a lot.

What I’m getting hung up about is the society that keeps putting so much weight on that word. It’s a media that says “shit” is acceptable on TV, but “fuck” is still verboten. In the UK, Bee’s remarks would be passed off as another political commentator speaking their mind. Only in America is it treated as a national scandal.

Just please be mindful of the women in this country who tell you it means something to them, even if it doesn’t fully make sense to you.

317
Anymouse 🌹  May 31, 2018 • 2:58:32pm

From Rebecca Shoenkopf’s previous article on the faux-trage of conservatives today:

“Cunt” is a strong word! Many women have VERY STRONG REACTIONS to it! Few (American) women see it as a simple analogue to calling a man a dick (though some of us do, and I suspect we’re all Riot Grrl Gen X). I have had gentle readers calling my voicemail and screaming CUNT at me since the mid-late-’90s, which can be discomfiting! (Discomfiting, anyway, to the men in the office, who listened to the voicemails and said, gingerly, “you know nobody calls us and screams like that, right?”) And yes, when people call me a cunt — which is prettttty often — it sometimes hurts my feelings. It’s supposed to. That’s its point.

Why did Bee call Ivanka Trump a cunt? For showing Madonna and Child Instys of her glowing with baby while the rest of the nation — even rightwingers — stood shocked at refugee toddlers being ripped from their parents in the U S of A.

Did she lie? And DID SHE STUTTER?

I have hurt people’s feelings by calling Jill Stein a cunt, which I don’t regret (I am sorry for calling her the ageist “hag”), and stunned my undergrads into silence by accidentally calling Barbara Bush one. (I opened my mouth and it just came out!)

Oh Did Sam Bee Hurt Your Virgin Ears?

I’m of the WMD persuasion: If both sides follow the same rules, then there’s no problem. But when one side is regularly lobbing nukes and the other is arguing over whether a nuclear response is justified, there’s only going to be one winner. And it’s not going to be a “moral victory.”

Oh I wish it were that cut and dry.

So remember how the 1500 missing children story blew up and we had so much damn momentum and moral high ground with it?
Then it became conflated with the new policy of seperating families at the border.
Then because there are always good liberal experts actually working on the ground, we got really good additional info about how the 2 stories got intertwined and how we could literally put more children in danger if we don’t do this right. Should we have just forged ahead in battle with the original narrative because it worked and because we got the momentum and the attention or should we slow the fuck down and try to do right by the children?

Apparently, the Euro already makes up about 20% of reserve currencies around the world. The US dollar still leads at 60% or so, but if that dropped even to 50%, with that 10% being spread over the Euro, Yen, and Pound (the three next largest)… I suspect things would get a bit nasty here

Even if we consider it as a pure tactical issue in political activism, I fail to see a good argument for using the c-word in that context. Like it or not, that’s going to split the left and scare off swing voters, and that’s just bad politics. There is no apparent benefit at all that could offset this disadvantage, so there really is a surprising amount of debate for something that seems to be such a no-brainer.

The English language is inordinately rich when it comes to insults etc., so there are certainly adequate ways to describe the moral depravity of Princess Ivanka Trump that aren’t own goals.

I know we all agree about the outrage for sure. And we know this is what they and their media institutions do. We’ve seen it before a million times and we’ll see it again within 72 hours I’d bet.

They are horrible people who aren’t acting in good faith and we’re all trying to figure out how to quarantine the deplorables. It’s tiring because they have soooo many systemic and institutional advantages…and they also have no heart and soul.

Well, I have a heart, but I sold my soul to rock & roll.

In the context of a political attack, I don’t think it is ever acceptable for a black person to call another black person a n*****. I’m clueless about the use of the n-word in entertainment (rap etc.), which is why I’ve specified the context.

It’s a very difficult thing to hold the same standard to an enemy and a friend. Some insults are more subjective than others. Some words are beyond the pale. That’s why we say the “C” word and the “N” word instead of saying it through.

Seems to me we had a consensus, dated back maybe to about the “Kramers” N word shitfit at audience members at a comedy club. Black Americans convinced me to self ban the “N” word, women convinced me to do the same with the “C” word.

All that having been said, false equivalences are still and always false. Goalposts need not get an EPA miles per gallon rating. The C word and Samantha got exploited today, and the damage is surely done. Recognize an exploit, call it and see what’s next. I think we stick to our “guns” um, well better said our principles. Relentlessly

That’s what’s getting to me. If it had been Maher or Olbermann who called Ivanka a “cunt,” I’d be totally there with folks screaming that its wrong and sexist, a man trying to strip a woman of her power.

But one woman calling another woman a “cunt” would usually be (to me) a non-issue. That it has blown up in such a way has left me absolutely flabbergasted.

It’s blown up by the right and the media and it’s fake. Most on our side are making totally different, internal calculations. Nobody on the left is buying this bullshit wholesale from what I can see.

While I like story-driven single player, I will among the first to admit that Bethsoft’s last two installments in the Fallout universe have been…less than stellar. I think it says a lot that more people fondly remember New Vegas than they do FO3.

That said, there were a lot of people who have wanted since FO3 came out for there to be a multiplayer Fallout game. If this keeps them happy while we wait for FO5 or another NV-style game, then I’m at least willing to give it a chance.

I don’t think I ever got the impression it was perfectly acceptable. But it definitely is a whole hell of a lot more loaded when it’s a guy saying it, because of when guys tend to say it, like when women turn down their advances, where it takes on an implicit tone of threat.

I’m merely a rock in the shoe of the Sovereign Grace churches, what with my Sunday picketing. The Washington Post has just published an article called

The sin of silence

The epidemic of denial about sexual abuse in the evangelical church.

It centers around Rachael Denhollander, the woman who was the first to go to the police about Larry Nassar’s sexual abuse of gymnasts. She was also sexually abused at a bible study as a girl and the reaction she got when she reported it basically encouraged her silence when it came to Nasser.

More importantly, particularly for me, she had a run-in with a Baptist church that had invited CJ Mahaney of Sovereign Grace to speak and she was asked to leave the church. The article details what happened.

I am HOPING that this will be the stick that gets Sovereign Grace to agree to the independent investigation their leadership told me they would not agree to last month when I was in Louisville. I’m just one person, but when a national newspaper makes you look like complete jerks, maybe then you’ll change your mind.

Samantha Bee is not a politician. She is a comedienne. By next week, conservatives will have moved on to a new fauxtrage. It’s what they do.

They are mad because she called out Ivanka Trump. Had she just stuck with “feckless” they’d be in a poutrage over that.

They were calling Hillary Clinton the same thing on their t-shirts during the campaign. When she walked back her “basket of deplorables” statement, did they say “thank you let’s move on now?” Clinton’s response to the press should have been “prove me wrong.”

You may not like it, I may not like it, and I sure as hell don’t like the double standard bullshit form this administration that had people chant TRUMP THAT BITCH at their rallies but there are people that are in bewteen us and Trumpers that see that Bee called the President’s daughter a C*** and are only focused on that. I get why Bee was upset. As I said, she’s a mother and immigrant herself but the second she called Ivanka a C***, the conversation became about that rather than what she was trying to draw attention to and I think that’s why many of us have said that we’d rather she not said it. I don’t give a shit about Ivanka’s feelings. In fact, I’d love to see her wearing an Orange jumpsuit, but I do care about immigarnt kids and their plight is being forgotten due to Bee saying c*** and I think you’re mistaken IMO that the media as a whole would have just latched on if she said merely feckelss.

One time I was operating my Bunky Big Rig, round about 1990 something or other, on the eastern part of the Indiana Toll Road heading east. Somewhere close to 30 odd miles from the Ohio line. Only had FM radio then. Pulled in a station that started playing In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, long album cut. Road was light with traffic. It’s flat there. Partly cloudy. I see a pack of motorcycles a half mile or more back in my mirror. Big. Two wide. And with the headlights, I could tell it was a large group. Big scooters in the Monfort Lane. Coming on.
So I sit listening to Iron Butterfly drone on, and here they come.
Yep. Angels. Massachusetts chapter. About 50 or so. Ape bars. Copious Ink.Full cuts. Inna Gadda banging to the tune of all that straight pipe roar.
Un-fucking-real.
Came by slow, and some were passing doobs back and forth. Just riding by, talking at each other. Quite the picture.

Sri Syadasti Syadavaktavya Syadasti Syannasti Syadasti Cavaktavyasca Syadasti Syannasti Syadavatavyasca Syadasti Syannasti Syadavaktavyasca, commonly called just Sri Syadasti, is a Discordian Saint and Apostle.

Patron of the Season of Confusion.

NOTE: Sri Syadasti should not be confused with Blessed St. Gulik the Stoned, who is not the same person but is the same Apostle.

Way late to this one but: Dicks are powerful men that behave badly with only *tsk-tsk* as punishment. When used as an insult by American men, cunts are powerless women to be used and disposed of.

I don’t take Ambien and I think Ivanka is a cunt. I don’t fucking care that people are more upset about language than actions. My conservative friends think it’s OK to separate children because we take people away from their kids all the time (when a father is sent to jail for armed robbery was the stupid example I was given. I was also told that US citizens are more important than immigrants. Ivanka had done nothing to demonstrate that she is interested in helping anyone other then he immediate family. If there is a better word to describe her let me know and I will start using it. As far as I can see, the Trump family is cunts all the way down.

Way late to this one but: Dicks are powerful men that behave badly with only *tsk-tsk* as punishment. When used as an insult by American men, cunts are powerless women to be used and disposed of.

I’ve tried to avoid being a dick during this thread, fighting an internal war with my cynical dickhead side for awhile now. Last thing I really wanna do in this thread is come away looking like a sexist prick. Think I’ll settle for just looking like a bell-end instead.

For what it’s worth, one of the tornado photos I took on May 10 is on the front cover of the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency newsletter.

Just heard an interview with a 103-yo survivor of the Tulsa Massacre that occurred on this day in 1921 where a middle class black neighborhood was razed, hundreds sent to the hospital, and perhaps 300 killed.

If you bring this up with Trumpists, they will certainly find a way to conclude “it was Democrats that did it!”

I will find it though. Didn’t know any survivors were still with us. Amazing.

I heard it an hour ago on NPR, but didn’t find a link at the time. I’ll check again. She said, “my parents told us not to look back, but to look forward in hope.” She was the first black woman (and maybe first woman) in the Coast Guard.

re: #397 JordanRules

I definitely think that is more likely to happen than them getting rid of her. And we may never know how bad it might get for her behind the scenes. But she always has Netflix to consider for her next contract.

She should do a show about the 5000 people who died in Puerto Rico. Don’t call anyone names, but just grind them to a pulp with facts. If they want to get heavy on Sam, she should get heavy back and let her audience know that she’s going to be doing that for a while. She really needs to fight back and I think her audience will support her fight.

I realize that this isn’t likely to happen, but damn I want to see her rip them to shreds with their own actions. She can do it.

re: #422 Anymouse 🌹

Samantha Bee is not a politician. She is a comedienne. By next week, conservatives will have moved on to a new fauxtrage. It’s what they do.

They are mad because she called out Ivanka Trump. Had she just stuck with “feckless” they’d be in a poutrage over that.

They were calling Hillary Clinton the same thing on their t-shirts during the campaign. When she walked back her “basket of deplorables” statement, did they say “thank you let’s move on now?” Clinton’s response to the press should have been “prove me wrong.”

I stand by Clinton’s deplorables comment, and she shouldn’t have walked that back.

As said upthread, the RWNJ outrage about everything is a given, so it can’t be allowed to set the agenda. However, that does not mean that anything goes. It is important to avoid own goals that split the left and scare the centrists. Pointlessly referring to Ivanka Trump as a c*** is exactly that, IMO.

Probably. They were looking for a “win” after Roseanne so they would do the faux outrage dance at any naughty word thrown at Ivanka.

you nailed it

these are media wars

and although not irrelevant they do a marvelous job of distracting us from the rest of the damage that the trump admin has inflicted on our country

re: #13 S’latch

I got censored in the previous thread for using the dreaded c-word. I am now considering whether it is sexist. I honestly don’t know. I might need to hear the debate on that.

If a man calls a woman a cunt then it could be sexist — fuck, probably is.

If a woman says to another woman:

“You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless cunt.”

Then I don’t see where the sexism is, in fact can’t see anything that needs apologising for.

Does anyone think Ivanka is not feckless?

By the way, C U N T is not spelled ****
