I can listen to Satriani all day long. Heck, I seem to be one of the three people who like him matched up with the rest of Chickenfoot. Sammy’s voice just works with Joe really well, IMO. Heh, last time I asked if anyone besides me liked them I got a resounding no.

I hated mowing when I was a kid because my parents had a huge fucking lawn (about 2-3 hours of mowing)…now it’s MY lawn. It only takes about fifteen or twenty minutes total. But it’s mine.

I do different patterns every time, like going in a circle around a tree and spiraling out from there, or - if I’m really ambitious - mowing in one direction and then mowing in the right angled direction. After about 10 years, I’ve got several of my neighbors doing the same. It is actually supposed to be good for the lawn, too!

There is no mowing of anything on the property I’m on now… live on the side of a mountain, about 2 acres. When you have to clean up around here, you hire someone with a bush wacker and a chainsaw…

I’m getting a bit tired of the 2010-11 Tennessee Snowocalypse…can’t help my mom rebuild her house that got trashed in the Great Nashville Flood of the Century back in May (and had to be demolished) until the weather dries up and warms up a bit.
Hard to dig and pour a footer and have heavy equipment moving around when the ground either stays wet, frozen, or both, especially on land that’s in a bit of a low spot and holds moisture like a sponge.

First time I saw Satriani was on the first G3 tour (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Eric Johnson, with Adrian Legg opening) in 1996. It was at the Austin Music Hall. Great show, but I think it was probably the hottest indoor temperature I’ve ever experienced, and standing immobile for ~3.5 hours wasn’t much fun, either.

It’s actually not uncommon to find ducks in a giraffe pool at a zoo. Giraffes don’t bother waterfowl, so its a good place for the ducks to rest and eat before setting out again.

It’s a cool 19th century story.
The giraffes pretty much walked most of the way from Africa to France.
A good historical read.

Reviewing the follow-ups to the story between Costa Rica and Nicaragua, it looks like the current government has acted like a colossal tool. When they did their incursion, they clear cut a large area of the place in dispute. Also, it seems that Mr. Ortega has been using this as some sort re-election tool.
It seems despicable to do this sort of action against Costa Rica, as they are a neutral nation with no standing army.

I don’t understand GOProud either. It seems to me in many places in order to make your bones as a Republican,if you’ve at anytime expressed support for pro gay rights legislation, you have to backtrack on it. Someone here posted an article about how in 1993 when he was I assume a legislator in Minnesota, Tim Pawlenty supported a bill banning discrimination based on sexuality. When he first ran for governor, he was accused of being “too soft on gay rights” (gee does that remind you of the story of George Wallace in Alabama being accused of being too moderate on civil rights any?) and Pawlenty has gradually grown more and more anti gay politically over the years.

Seriously, they pick on Costa Rica? This is the reason the US needs to be active out in the world. Helping out countries in these sort of situations. They forget of course that anger at Obama and Democrats won’t last forever and being elected on anger is not sound strategy at all. Knew about the history involving the French since one of my favorite movies (Day of the Jackal) involves a bunch of French army extremists who try to assassinate De Gaulle over giving the Algerians their independence and as I recall, Camus’ The Stranger was there too. HAted that book in high school heh.

Washington (CNN) – House Republicans unveiled a sweeping spending bill Friday evening that slashes hundreds of programs and agencies across the government – from education, to the environment to cops on the beat – setting up a showdown with Senate Democrats.
“The legislation includes the largest reduction in discretionary spending in the history of our nation – over five times larger than any other discretionary cut package ever considered by the House,” said House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers, R-KY, in a statement.
Facing rebellion from conservatives – especially newly elected freshmen – House GOP leaders added $26 billion spending cuts from their planned proposal in order to fulfill a campaign promise to cut $100 billion in spending this year
The total spending cuts add up to $60 billion when compared to spending levels now funding the government. But it meets the GOP pledge to cut $100 billion in federal spending compared to what President Obama proposed for government programs for this fiscal year, which was never enacted.
Based on the President’s budget for this year, $81 billion would be cut from non-security programs, and $19 billion from security related programs, all compared with the president’s budget proposal for 2011.
“These cuts go far and wide, and will affect every community in the nation. These were hard decisions, and I know many people will not be happy with everything we’ve proposed in this package. That’s understandable and not unexpected, but I believe these reductions are necessary to show that we are serious about returning our nation to a sustainable financial path,” said Rogers.
The Republican legislation calls for over 100 federal programs to be outright eliminated, including scholarships, family planning, school counseling, Teach for America, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, AmeriCorps, and the COPS hiring program.

Agreed. They’re saying to the rebels “This is what your cuts look like. This is how they’ll hurt your reelection chances. Still want ‘em?” The bet is that most of the Tea Party aligned congresspeople will then fall into line. Those that won’t will be of two groups:
1. Those who don’t really want to understand the situation, but just want to get their spending cuts. Those are simply delusional, and there’s not much you can do when someone is simply indifferent to reality.
2. Those who see the pain and damage to their reelection the cuts will bring, but still think they are needed. It’s necessary to give some honor to this second group: They may be wrong, but at least they have honest convictions the courage of them. That’s worth something and some of them may be brought around in time.
