His Quest to Unseal Michael Brown’s Juvenile Records Thwarted, Chuck C. Johnson Goes Psycho

Eric Holder is behind this plot
Wingnuts • Views: 34,853
Chuck C. Johnson menacingly brandishing a firearm

As we noted a couple of hours ago, wingnut blogger Chuck C. Johnson (who is NOT ME) has now been thoroughly thwarted in his weaselly attempt to get the juvenile records of Michael Brown unsealed.

And it’s driven him around the bend (a short drive). He’s raging about this “unprecedented move:”

Of course, there’s nothing “unprecedented” about this at all; juvenile records are sealed specifically to prevent the kind of character assassination Johnson was attempting.

So Johnson then moved on to the last refuge of the incompetent wingnut: the conspiracy theory.

A “public official” told him. Right. I try not to use these kinds of abbreviations, but excuse me while I LMAO.

The last refuge of the hate monger: conspiracy theories.

Chucky can’t admit he was wrong, that will shame in him in the eyes of the racist fuckwits who follow him. So instead he’ll blame the black AG and the DoJ for his failure to convince a judge that he’s got a right to smear the memory of a black teen.

If Chuck C can find another free Twitter lawyer then you are so going to be the next name on his list of people to sue.

3 lawhawk  Sep 9, 2014 6:15:07pm

Unprecedented? Courts routinely issue denials for these records every day. They grant them too.

In this case, CCJ’s petition was written not as a legal brief, but as a diatribe that wouldn’t pass muster for a 1L.

The court properly disposed of the requests, so he now seeks the refuge of scoundrels and crackpots everywhere - the conspiracy theory. That it was the Obama Administration out to block justice.

Right.

Step away from the bong, Mad Dog 20/20, and the keyboard CCJ, and get a grip.

The only ones peddling conspiracies are the people convincing themselves that Wilson had an orbital fracture, that Brown knew kung-fu and murdered someone as a juvenile without identifying who the victim could have been in that case.

You’d think that the crackpot journalist/researcher would have been able to find out from his so-called sources who exactly was murdered by Brown and work back from there.

But no. There isn’t anyone.

It’s all just character assassination and poisoning the well of potential jurors who might hear a case against Officer Wilson.

And we have to spend still more time debunking this crap.

And all this has what, exactly, to do with an unarmed Michael Brown being shot at least a half dozen times?

People wonder why conspiracy theorists exist. This right here is why. They simply refuse to believe they are wrong, so they go off the f——ing deep end in order to avoid dealing with the cognitive dissonance.

It’s about character assassination in preparation for the trial, tainting the jury pool in such a fashion that there will be no choice but to seek a change of venue to a whiter community. Even if Chucky had managed to get a hold of Brown’s juvenile records, odds are they’d be inadmissible in court except as character evidence. And the defense would only introduce it at the risk of opening Wilson to similar attacks.

They’ve got about 10 days of work in DC between now and Election Day. Ponder that for a moment. They’re going to spend how much time on Benghazi, which Issa has already investigated up the ying-yang with no finding of fault on the Administration, so Boehner decided to send in Gowdy to try again.

This is Congress. Bread and circuses for the people. It’s a witch hunt and the only outcome is that the GOP running this clown show get reelected on the belief that they’ll do something to stop Obama, even if it means making stuff up. The investigations are red-meat for the rank and file. Because they can’t deliver on any of the other promises like repealing ACA or shutting down the government again (not that they wouldn’t mind trying again).

The ACA is turning out to be a whole lot more successful than anyone planned, to the point where some states are considering expanding Medicaid b/c they don’t want to be seen as standing in the way of giving health insurance coverage to millions.

But that’s what the GOP has done all this time - trying to thwart access to health insurance. It’s sickening.

Up here in the wild north country, all the Teahadists and other GOP nutjobs are running on a strenuous anti-Obamacare platform. I told Mrs. Fish, I bet that comes back to bite them in the ass come November. The ACA was fairly well received here and MNCare was, if I recall correctly, one of the better implementations of the health care exchange.

Rather depressing actually:

It’s the power of incumbency and apathy mixed into one hot mess. So, while everyone seem to think this Congress sucks more than every other Congress before it, they still send back the same Congress members who have led us to this point in the first place.

Because it’s not their representative that’s the problem. It’s everyone else’s representatives.

Political parties don’t bother sending up credible opponents in primaries so they run unopposed. The opposition party doesn’t bother to put up credible candidates in the general elections so they maintain the status quo. But everyone bitches at the Congress.

It starts with the local parties and the local candidates. And voting. That above all else.

Proving my point:

Gov. Cuomo will likely win the primary for NY in a landslide against Fordham Law prof Zephyr Teachout (still the most awesome name I’ve come across in years). But look at the turnout. It’s beyond pitiful. No one cares.

Everyone figured that Cuomo would win handily so they didn’t bother to show up.

We need a vigorous primary system - challenging candidates on their positions. Cuomo may be better than Teachout, but we never saw them debate. We know what Cuomo has done (including trying to get the courts to invalidate her placement on the ballot, which he was unsuccessful in doing). It is supposed to result in new ideas and life blood into the parties, but instead it turns into a fundraiser for the general election (which will pit Cuomo against Westchester County Exec Rob Astorino who really shouldn’t be in any office above dog catcher). /okay, now I’m done with the political aside/rant.

I love my dumb phone. It’s great for ordering take-out on the way home from work or letting people know if I’m going to be late for a meeting. It was also great for keeping in touch with my sisters when my dad was dying. Costs me about $5.00 a month (I pre-pay for blocks of time), and it mostly just leaves me alone. If I want to waste hours on the internet, I have to come home.

Edit: on the other hand (literally), I have to wear a watch to remind me what day of the week it is.

I used to have one when I was a kid. Someone gave me his old Timex(?). I forget the brand. Anyway it was too big for me — adult sized watch for an 8-year-old wrist — so it spent most of its time in a drawer. Probably a good thing for a radium dialed watch.

Probably Directv, because at least when I travel and stay at places with “high speed internet”, that is around .5 Mbps, I can use the phone as an access point so I’m able to actually do something.

I’d put off getting my Saturn Ion fixed in the recall, and today it bit me in the butt. As in, my car’s ignition would not turn off, not for love or money. I could pull the key out of the ignition and the car would still run. You can imagine the WTF moment when I realized I was going to have to go to a Plan B to get the car turned off.

That said, I love this modern era. I was able to use my phone to call my brother to let him know I was on the way over with a messed up car, then find out how to get the car stopped (remove the fuel pump fuse) and where the fuse box was (along with my very exact complaint was that it wasn’t in an obvious place). Mission accomplished—the car is now parked in front of my mother’s house and I am now driving the GMC Jimmy.

I have no idea what the turnaround time is on getting the parts for that ignition recall, but I guess I will find out.

GOPer Doubles Down On Excessive Black Voting Complaint: I Prefer ‘Educated Voters’
talkingpointsmemo.com

The Georgia state senator who ranted about excessive black voting and vowed to fight a move to expand early voting in DeKalb County defended his remarks on Facebook, saying that he would rather have more educated voters than an increase in the total number of voters.

“I do agree with Galloway and I never claimed to be nonpartisan,” Millar wrote. “I would prefer more educated voters than a greater increase in the number of voters. If you don’t believe this is an efort [sic] to maximize Democratic votes pure and simple, then you are not a realist. This is a partisan stunt and I hope it can be stopped. Furthermore I don’t control where people are allowed to vote but am glad Brookhaven has been added for the last week.”

Ben Franklin himself was here in 1714 (born in 1707 iirc, maybe ‘06)

200 sagehen  Sep 9, 2014 11:52:45pm

And now I googled and found that I spelled Peter Stuyvesant’s name wrong, and he died in 1672. And John Harvard died in 1638.

But Benjamin Franklin was alive and on this continent in 1714 (he was 8 years old, but give me this one).

Here’s tidbit about Roger Williams, who wasn’t too popular with the Puritans in Massachusetts.

Finally, in October 1635, the General Court tried Williams and convicted him of sedition and heresy. The Court declared that he was spreading “diverse, new, and dangerous opinions”.[9] He was then ordered to be banished. The execution of the order was delayed because Williams was ill and winter was approaching, so he was allowed to stay temporarily, provided he ceased his agitation. When he failed to do so, in January 1636 the sheriff came, only to discover that Williams had slipped away three days earlier during a blizzard. He walked through the deep snow of a hard winter the 105 miles from Salem to the head of Narragansett Bay where the local Wampanoags offered him shelter, and took him to the winter camp of their chief sachem, Massasoit, where Williams lived three and a half months until spring arrived.

So, Roger skipped town and got sanctuary from his Native American buddies. I like the way he rolled.

I see the appeal of a smartwatch but not with a phone per se. I still have to take the phone out of my pocket which has no appeal to me. I could see it working well with a “bluetooth” style earphone. Wrist vibrates, glance down at the watch, see who it is, press their face and talk/text. Yes I realize the web connection happens through the phone but that’s for the engineering dept.
Also I abhor the cyborg look of the earset, would need to be smaller.

William Penn, Quaker. Founded Pennsylvania. (I cheated and googled and he died in 1718.)

Which would then probably also allow my g-g-g-(many)-mother, a Huguenot refugee who bought land from him and founded Paradise, PA.

That guy is a real piece of work, a total weirdo tenther state’s rights conservative cock-neck lawyer. For a hobby he runs a service called Balanced Scales Legal Services (donotlink.com) where he hangs out at his local county courthouse three days a week and provides free representation to people who’ve been served with Protection from Abuse cases, aka restraining orders. He’s there to make sure people accused by their partners of manipulative, verbal & emotional and physical abuse get a lawyer to represent them at the hearing no charge.

Which on the surface seems like maybe not the worst thing ever, except he clearly has an agenda to legitimize all forms of abuse except the physical. Because being the most atrocious kind of smarmy fuck-faced human being imaginable, the kind that perpetuates the law profession’s bad reputation, he thinks verbal, emotional abuse and manipulation are perfectly valid interpersonal communication strategies.

212 goddamnedfrank  Sep 10, 2014 1:50:28am

Also, he’s a gay man who’s against the courts striking down gay marriage bans, because of some dedication to the principal of hyper literal interpretation of text and the intent of all those old sniveling bigots in Congress and the various State legislatures who wrote the laws. The only way to change the law is a pedantic adherence to the political process. If you disagree with him you’re a fascist, while he un-ironically argues in favor of tyranny of the majority against himself and those like him.

Another thing he’s against, the 1964 Civil Rights Act, because of course he is.

I required her to paint a Simpsons scene on the HDD casing if she wanted to keep it and she did. Well the HDD took a shit recently and I got wind she’s lonely in her new dorm setting. Seriously, NBC can go suck a dick…

The edited version of the MTP interview with President Obama that aired on Sunday chopped entire portions of Obama’s responses out. The transcript now up on the MTP page is of only the portions that were aired after editing. Three of the four times that Obama said Syria before Chuck Todd’s “you haven’t said Syria” question have been removed…

nbcnews.com

Now the wingnuts are saying “you claimed Obama had said Syria four times and he only said it once, lying libtard!” To see the full interview video or transcript you have to search for the “full interview” instead of the MTP transcript now.

Advice. Get out of the dorm room. Join a club or something, and meet people.

Then, if she’s already equipped with a tablet or laptop, suggest she download Evernote for keeping notes and stuff organized across her machines. She’ll want a digital camera, even if her cellphone has one. Get her an Amazon giftcard so she can download ebooks, or better yet, buy her a Kindle to go with the giftcard. A digital picture frame for her desk. Slippers. Cozy bathrobe. A small Thermos for carrying around coffee to morning classes.

That’s a start.

What college is she going to?

Big day today.

Flying to Atlantic City today for a *small* family reunion, where the clan is gathering to see my niece compete in the in the Miss America pageant this Sunday night.

And my 84-year-old mom is making the trip as well!

I know there are some folks that say the Miss America pageant is long past its expiration date, but looking through the Facebook posts, my niece is having the time of her life — a small-town kid made to feel special for a couple weeks.

She really does fit the definition of “good kid,” and she’s got her head on straight (far more than I did when I was her age — or, um, even now!).

And she’s following in her big sister’s footsteps and is going to be a nurse.

So maybe we ask the Lizards to think good thoughts; it’s my understanding that if she finishes in the top 5, her education will be paid for, which is no small thing these days.

In a statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Cruz declared: “This amendment here today, if adopted, would repeal the free speech protections of the First Amendment… . This amendment, if adopted, would give Congress absolute authority to regulate the political speech of every single American, with no limitations whatsoever.”

Similarly, in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, Cruz said, the amendment “gives Congress power to regulate—and ban—speech by everybody.” In remarks at the Family Research Council, Cruz declared: “What it [the proposed amendment] says is that politicians in Washington have unlimited constitutional authority to muzzle each and every one of you if you’re saying things that government finds inconvenient.”

Editorial Reviews
Review
“Why Coolidge Matters could not appear at a better time. In it, Charles Johnson shatters the myth that Calvin Coolidge was a president of little influence and brings to life a man of deep convictions, courage, and incredible talent for clearly communicating economic struggles in moral terms. In our era of economic malaise, we should learn from the president whose tax cuts helped ignite one of America’s greatest economic booms. Anyone interested in the cause of free markets and liberty would do well to read this book.”

—U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX)

“This is a very energetic and engaging amplification of the strong points of Coolidge’s presidency and administrative techniques. It is a welcome addition to the growing literature on whether Coolidge was, as Charles Johnson claims, an underrated and commendable leader, and not, as majority historical opinion has long held, a simplistic and dangerously detached president. It is a lively and imaginative case presented by a very promising young historian and commentator.”

—Conrad Black, author of Franklin Delano Roosevelt: Champion of Freedom, Richard M. Nixon: A Life in Full, and the recently published A Matter of Principle.

It turns out that our Cal wasn’t as silent as we thought. Coolidge’s life speaks volumes about the sad state of contemporary politics, and may offer a map for the way out. Charles Johnson’s smart and entertaining book about our witty, wise, and humane 30th president is a must-read for anyone who cares about the history of the presidency, or its future.

—Tucker Carlson, co-founder and editor-in-chief of the Daily Caller

In a time when we suffer from the follies of a celebrity president, Charles Johnson’s short sparkling account of Calvin Coolidge, the citizen president who valued experience over theory and individual accountability rather than social salvation, is a welcome occasion.

—Fred Siegel, scholar in residence at St. Francis College and a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute

To preserve our freedom, we must recover both our principles and our past. Calvin Coolidge is a figure from the past who possessed profound knowledge of our principles and the eloquence to explain them. Charles Johnson—precocious, energetic, and knowledgeable himself—brings real ability to the work of recovering Coolidge, and so he helps us to better know our country and ourselves.

—Larry P. Arnn, president of Hillsdale College and author of The Founders’ Key

“Johnson’s book is essential reading for those interested in presidential leadership. He shines the spotlight on one of America’s most successful, yet unappreciated, chief executives. Knowing full well the proper use of executive power, Silent Cal had a steady hand on the ship of state. Johnson makes the case that Coolidge should enter the pantheon of America’s great Presidents.”

—John Yoo, law professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and visiting scholar at the American Enterprise Institute.

“Charles Johnson’s Why Coolidge Matters is a timely, riveting profile of one of America’s most unsung presidents. We all have much to learn from Calvin Coolidge’s adherence to thrift; devotion to his Christian faith; emphasis on character and civic virtue; and demonstrated commitment to public service and first principles. Myths on both the Left and Right abound about “Silent Cal.” Johnson’s vibrant scholarship clears the air and sheds new light on a commander-in-chief who modeled long-forgotten, but desperately needed, leadership traits of restraint, discipline, and prudence. As the conservative movement ponders its future, Why Coolidge Matters provides a compelling reason to look to its forgotten past for inspiration.”

—Michelle Malkin, author, blogger, and syndicated columnist

Charles C. Johnson’s first book is best described as a home run on the first pitch. Charles is a brilliant young man who has the potential to be to his generation what William F. Buckley Jr. was to his, or at last what Alex P. Keaton was to mine. But seriously, his blogging during his undergraduate years at Claremont McKenna parallel Buckley’s God and Man at Yale and his aggressive intellect positions him to be the man who stands athwart history yelling stop! It’s only fitting that he’s chosen Calvin Coolidge as his subject because “standing athwart” is what Coolidge was all about.

Also read that Encounter Books — Johnson’s publisher — is a non-profit publisher that publishes conservative-leaning books, so “wingnut welfare” would appear to be a pretty apt description.

Wait, wait … Is it Maine?

Yep.

Something my sister told me that I thought was awfully interesting: my niece is going to do a comedy monologue for the talent portion of the show. I have no idea how it will go over — she always struck me as kind of a quiet kid — but since none of the other contestants are doing anything like that, it has some terrific potential to break through the “clutter”, so to speak.

The pageant is on NBC this Sunday night, for anyone so inclined to tune in. :-)

Seriously, NBC can go suck a dick…

The edited version of the MTP interview with President Obama that aired on Sunday chopped entire portions of Obama’s responses out. The transcript now up on the MTP page is of only the portions that were aired after editing. Three of the four times that Obama said Syria before Chuck Todd’s “you haven’t said Syria” question have been removed…

nbcnews.com

Now the wingnuts are saying “you claimed Obama had said Syria four times and he only said it once, lying libtard!” To see the full interview video or transcript you have to search for the “full interview” instead of the MTP transcript now.

nbcnews.com

NBC should be contacted and asked why they are presenting only a portion of the interview.

Wisconsin’s black children remain trapped in poverty, study says

The state ranks last in the country in the overall well-being of African-American children based on an index of 12 measures that gauge a child’s success from birth to adulthood, according to a new report being released Wednesday by the Wisconsin Council on Children & Families.

The measures, while not new, are bleak:

■ Four out of every five African-American children in Wisconsin live in poor households, compared with roughly two out of three Latino children and three out of 10 white children.

■ Seven out of 10 African-American children live in single-parent families, compared with fewer than four of 10 Latino children and roughly two of 10 white children.

■ Fewer than one in 10 in eighth grade are proficient in math, compared with almost one in five for Latino children and a bit less than one in two for white children.

Still too high, but 1 in 3 in favor of ground troops isn’t exactly a mandate…

It turns out the WSJ poll also finds that 40 percent say “action” should be “limited to air strikes only” and another 15 percent say we shouldn’t act at all — a total of 55 percent. Meanwhile, all of 34 percent support air strikes and sending in combat troops — perhaps higher than one might expect, but still only one in three Americans.

Teachout won more counties than she had any business doing, especially since she’s to the left of Cuomo and upstate is generally more conservative than Cuomo.

Some of this might be blowback for the SAFE Act that Cuomo got rammed through the legislature. But it also shows the antipathy of voters in NY. It seems that everyone’s resigned to a Cuomo reelection, so few turned out. Cuomo got enough turnout in NYC to get reelected comfortably by a 62-34 margin. Of course, pundits and the GOP will look at the county splits and see that Cuomo is vulnerable.

When turnout was sparse - a few hundred people voting in each county upstate, I don’t think you can take anything away from the outcome other than people simply didn’t care enough to vote. And that leaves us with the mess we’re in - whether its localities that don’t reflect their constituencies or are pushing policies that are out of step with public sentiment as expressed in polling.

GOTV faces an uphill battle against apathy, and that’s not a good sign for anyone.

I was reading somewhere that Cuomo had “eyes on the prize” — the Democratic nomination for President, although they didn’t make clear whether he was looking at 2016 or post-Hillary.

The article also suggested that any vote total below 70% would hurt him very much, given Teachout’s underfunded campaign — 62% suggests a fairly big “anti-Cuomo” vote.

A lot of what I’ve read indicates Cuomo is very much “Republican-lite,” and more than a few people have called him a DINO. If that’s the case, that’s no great loss if it hurts his national ambitions.

GRRRRR…

WaPo updates their article about ISIS versus ISIL versus Islamic State, all because of the need to hear the word Syria, and yet they’ve ignored that the State Department has had ISIL on the terror watch list since 2004.

Seriously.

This is nearly as bad as the Chuck Todd MTP clip job. Let’s just ignore everything happening years ago (or the current statement of who’s a terror group according to the State Department), and demand that we hear the word Syria?

These journalists simply cannot be taken seriously.

Good points, lawhawk. I think the main thing Cuomo wanted out of the primary was to shore up his support in the western half of the state, which he obviously did. Dems and independents in the east will vote for him in the general election anyway.

He and Christie seem to be in orbit of each other - DINO/RINO acolytes that seem to be more interested in personal aggrandizement than a political platform that people actually want. Both ignore infrastructure and both see the Port Authority as a personal piggy bank.

Both also rely on tolls and fees to raise revenues since they can’t raise taxes.

But hopefully both will see their national ambitions crushed in toto.

That our prevention education program presented 1700 programs in our area schools, or that we received over 4,000 calls on our 24 hour hotlines from people needing assistance with a domestic violence or sexual assault situation?”

All of this with masters level professionals who make less than first year catholic school teachers—and a revolving door of volunteers.

Also realize that when the shelter is full, we have to turn women away (refer them to a shelter outside the county). This means that the need is greater than the resources we can muster.

My non-Christian Taoist-Buddhist sister-in-law *loved* Christmas music.

I think my brother is indifferent to it since he only plays NPR on the radio and doesn’t watch TV. And his public exposure to it is less than mine due to differences in employment and place of residence.

I LOATHE it, especially since the point at which shopping and public places become saturated with it earlier and earlier each year. So I get a massive exposure to it every year. (As said earlier The Kinks “Father Christmas” is probably the only redeeming factor.)

The courting of the Ukrainian neo-Nazis by certain Ukrainian democrats continues. Today there was the first convention of a new party, “Narodnyj Front”, headed by the Premier Yatsenyuk and the ex-acting President Turchinov (as well as a host of other ex-Batkyvshchina politicians). They represent moderate nationalist-democratic, more or less pro-Western forces. The problem was that one of the delegates, who also spoke at the convention, was the open neo-Nazi Andrey Biletsky, commander of the Azov battalion. It’s one thing that there exists a fighting battalion basically consisting of various far-right types, white supremacists and neo-Nazis. At least they’re made useful that way, I guess. It’s a very different thing when they’re getting a free pass into high-level politics.

MPD: Teenager throws disc golf into yard, owner responds with gunshot

A 43-year-old Midland man was arrested Tuesday morning after a standoff stemming from a confrontation with a disc golf player, according to the city’s spokeswoman.

Buddy Myers is facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he pulled out a gun and fired a shot at a 19-year-old who had thrown a disc golf into Myers’ backyard, according to spokeswoman Sara Higgins.
The investigation revealed that the teen had inadvertently thrown a disc into Myers’ backyard while playing at Windlands Park. He went to the house, but no one answered the front door. When the disc golf player peered over the back fence, Myers exited his house and backyard and shot a pistol in the direction of the teen, who was in his back alley, Higgins said.

Sugar Sugar, by The Archies

Don Kirshner had proposed Sugar Sugar to the Monkees as their next hit when he had total control of their music. At that same meeting, Mike Nesmith put his fist through a wall and the band demanded that they get control of the music that went out under their own name. The Monkees were already pissed off that their second album went out without them even knowing about it until it was in the stores, and the liner notes by Kirshner thanked practically everyone involved in the recording except the band for their input in making The Monkees a success.

When The Monkees finally succeeded in getting Kirshner fired, he created The Archies as the next step in his hit-making machine. It had the benefit (to him) of cartoon characters as band members who couldn’t disagree with his control of the music and production. Kirshner did go on to prove that he was a hit-making machine even though the songs sucked.

Taxes have been collected by rulers pretty much as long as there have been rulers.

That’s how they raised armies, built defenses, and kept their holdings in check.

Own a farm? You paid over a portion of your crops to the local lords.
Were a merchant? You paid over a portion of what you made.

Didn’t have enough to cover what was owed? Into debtors prisons you went. Became indentured servants. Or worse.

I mean if you want to debate the amount of taxes, sure that’s a reasonable debate but these people want the debate about whether taxation should exist at all. And quite frankly that’s why they cant’ be reasoned with. They’ve convinced themselves that societies can be run with no taxes. We’ve gone from “No new taxes” to “No taxes at all.” It is in that sense that the so called conservatives are actually the radicals and the “tax and spend liberals” are actually the conservative.

When I’m thinking about what kind of career I want to have, it’s a lot like shopping for a bra. I want to find something that fits me and appeals to me, and I’m not thinking about pleasing a man. Every state sets its own lane widths? Overpass heights? Weight restrictions? Safety requirements?

How exactly is that efficient? It isn’t. The derp is indeed strong with that one.

State and local governments that impose their own taxes and fees to support the programs. Oy. What logic this one has.

Gohmert went on to compare the thousands of Central American children who have come to the southern border of the U.S. after fleeing drug-related violence in their home countries to North Korean defectors, who he said make a “good neighbor” by comparison.

In the past, an airman could opt for an alternative phrase and omit the words “so help me God,” but the US Air Force changed its policy in October 2013.

The other branches of the American military do not require the reference to God and make the phrase optional.

“This is the only branch to my knowledge that’s actually requiring everyone in all instances to use the religious language,” Miller said.

The requirement violates the US Constitution, which bars religious tests to hold office or other positions, Miller said of the case, which was first reported by the Air Force Times.

House GOP Sets Out On New Quixotic Quest To Mess With Obamacare

Cassidy’s bill would allow insurers to keep selling non-Obamacare-compliant plans to employers through 2019, which would largely affect small employers with 50 or fewer employees. The Obama administration has already given the same option to those in the individual market through 2016, after the outcry over the “keep your health plan” controversy last fall.

But the House GOP’s latest bill would significantly broaden that so-called “fix” and extend it through the end of the decade. The small-business market that would be affected accounts for at a minimum 17 percent of the covered workers in the United States, or roughly 26 million people. That market is a major focus of Obamacare, remade under its insurance reforms and targeted by the insurance exchanges that opened last year.

Have to find felons or make them on a regular basis.

Libertarianism: freedom to deny other people their freedom.

So, reading Orwell’s Animal Farm would be dead out for them? Or would it be okay because libertarians are incapable of cognitive dissonance?

RE: Ebola

Northwestern University’s statistics folks estimated 100,000 cases. We’re only an airplane ride away from worldwide disaster.

The GOP and Fox, et al, spend so much time scaring the shit out of people over completely bullshit, when a real threat occurs, Meh…

Re: Christmas music….

I’m no fan of the schlocky, obvious Ray Conniff-type of presentation and style — but there has been some superb holiday/Christmas music made in recent years:

“Christmas” by Bruce Cockburn
“A Barenaked Christmas” by Barenaked Ladies
Jethro Tull’s Christmas Album (includes Ring Out Solstice Bells)
“‘Tis the Season for Los Straitjackets” by Los Straitjackets
Several Motown and Stax collections (not recent years, but still lovely)
“Snowfall”, the Tony Bennett Christmas Album
“A Manhattan Transfer Christmas”
“The Spirit of Christmas” by Ray Charles
“A Very Jazzy Christmas”
“Christmas is Almost Here” by Carly Simon
All of the aforementioned Brian Setzer Orchestra holiday stuff

….and my current fav, “Jingle All the Way” by Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.

(Yes, I do like Christmas music done with artistic integrity. It really does exist, you just need to be motivated to sift through the mind-numbing pile of dreck that passes for Christmas music.)
