Sarah Palin: Shakespeare Did It Too, You Meanies

Wingnuts • Views: 3,919

Sarah Palin was miffed that people noticed her usage of a completely imaginary word (“refudiate” — English First!), and posted this pouty tweet comparing herself to the English language’s greatest playwright, William Shakespeare:

“Refudiate,” “misunderestimate,” “wee-wee’d up.” English is a living language. Shakespeare liked to coin new words too. Got to celebrate it!

This led to the hilarious #shakespalin hash tag on Twitter, for which we thank the former governor.

Moreover, she’s no George W. Bush. Whatever you think of Bush the Younger, one has to admit that he handled his occasional malapropisms with humor and class. He never got mad at the media for his own miscues. Sarah Palin, by contrast, blames others when she screws up. In that she shows her self to be a lesser person than Bush and more on the level of John “f’in’ Kerry.

Modernity and the Muslims
A transcript of a discussion at St. Francis College

FRED SIEGEL: Islam, like any other religious tradition, comprises a variety of strands. Understanding Islam is made all the more difficult because Islam does not distinguish between a ritual law in the Western sense, ethics, and good manners. I hope that we will distinguish a bit of that now. But, painting in broad strokes, it’s fair to say that tension between the Arab Islamic world and the liberal versions of modernity is one of the central issues, if not the central issue, of our era…

LEE SMITH: Fred Siegel was talking about modernism. In Lebanon, what we saw and continue to see is real conflict between what I would consider the forces of a positive modernity, in terms of the pro-democracy March 14 movement—a positive manifestation of Arab/Islamic modernity—and its enemy Hezbollah. This is a place where you see most clearly these two different versions of modernity, the liberal and the antiliberal.

I tried to write not so much about Islam in my book for a number of reasons. Some have argued that political Islam is a deviant form of Islam, not the true traditional Islam. That’s not a discussion that I want to get involved with. That is an argument that has gone on in the Middle East in the Muslim world for 1,400 years. What’s the real Islam?…

IBN WARRAQ:The title of this book—Virgins? What Virgins? and Other Essays—refers to an article I wrote soon after 9/11 for the British daily newspaper the Guardian. It was the first discussion in English of the work of a scholar known as Christoph Luxenberg, who tried to show that the Koran was probably originally a document belonging to a Judeo-Christian sect written in Syriac, a language of the Near East. The article was picked up by a journalist at the New York Times, where it hit the front page, and then went around the world. The idea was that crucial passages in the Koran had been mistranslated, so that the martyrs—mistakenly called suicide bombers, but they’re essentially martyrs—found awaiting them in paradise not 72 virgins, but 72 raisins.

I wrote my first book, Why I Am Not a Muslim, in reaction to the Salman Rushdie affair. I felt that that many intellectuals blamed Rushdie for bringing the infamous fatwa back in 1989 onto himself. I thought that the same intellectuals were not willing to defend some basic principles, like freedom of expression, and especially freedom of speech. This shocked me so much that when I was given the opportunity to write, I jumped at the chance, and I have carried on ever since.

PAUL BERMAN:…I was a rioter at Columbia University in 1968. Among my professors there, with whom I studied the following year, when I was a sophomore, was the greatest professor I ever had and the one who most influenced my intellectual development because of how brilliant he was as a teacher and because of the approach to ideas and the history of ideas that he taught me to appreciate. This was Edward Said, who gave a course on modern literary criticism, which I took extremely seriously. I’ve come away thinking that Said was an outwardly contradictory man. He was someone who respected and loved what we call Western literature; yet he also managed to develop an ideology of his own after the period in which I studied with him. He developed an ideology, expressed in his book Orientalism, which in effect took all the great issues shaking up the Middle East and, by extension, other parts of the world, and attributed them to Europe or to the West or to Western imperialism. Said managed to create an ideology in which people in the Middle East, or the great majority of the people in the Middle East, lost responsibility for their own situation, which could be attributed entirely to the actions of the West…

She made a mistake, but wants to make sure that others do not repeat it. To say “Do not repeat my error.” is not hypocritical.

It is the very definition of hypocrisy to pose on the cover of People magazine with your wondrous baby and your adorable-the-second-time-around redneck statutory rapist and then go around taking money for saying “don’t have sex”.

Shakespeare loved puns. In fact his contemporaries managed an oblique honorary mention of him in their translation of the Bible, what we now call the King James Bible, in Psalm 46. If you count the 46th word from the beginning you get Shake, if you then count the 46th word from the end (don’t include the selah) you get spear. It may just be an apocryphal story, but it’s still quite clever.

However:

Report: Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin Were Paid $100,000 For Cover Story

After the news broke that Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin were engaged, many began to speculate what sort of compensation they got for their cover and exclusive story.

Sources at the NY Post estimate Us Weekly paid $100,000 for the story, but a rep for the mag rep said in a statement, “We were approached by Bristol and Levi to break the news, and we didn’t pay $100,000.”

Hmm, what do you think they were paid? Levi wasn’t naked so we’re sure he didn’t demand THAT much money, but it sounds like he did his homework with Bristol, as she did another interview with People right before the the Us Weekly cover came out, and she wouldn’t admit whether or not they were back together! So sneaky, these kids…

I don’t generally comment on Bristol Palin, but you did touch on something important there. She’s doing this for pay. She has a consultancy. She was a paid spokesperson for Candie’s Foundation.

Once someone is paid to go and speak, I feel that moves their agenda into an area where criticism is totally legitimate.

I do think, however, that more than a small tinge of misogyny can creep in when people attack her. The whole ‘getting knocked up = dumb’ equation that a lot of people seem to use is one that makes me mad.

If she actually had any ideas and views.

Even with pre-screened questions in a friendly venue, Bill O’Reilly has to spoonfeed her answers to the questions he’s asking.

I’m going to try to start the meme that Alvin Greene is per perfect Democrat Analogue.

re: #194 Obdicut

I don’t generally comment on Bristol Palin, but you did touch on something important there. She’s doing this for pay. She has a consultancy. She was a paid spokesperson for Candie’s Foundation.

Once someone is paid to go and speak, I feel that moves their agenda into an area where criticism is totally legitimate.

I do think, however, that more than a small tinge of misogyny can creep in when people attack her. The whole ‘getting knocked up = dumb’ equation that a lot of people seem to use is one that makes me mad.

Me too. The one thing the timing of this proves is that she’s not dumb. One tidbit the US Weekly article has about Bristol is that her High School GPa was 3.47, which is very good. She’s a smart person who did a foolish thing.

yeah, i don’t know what happened here earlier, but I’m going to do a page on this at some point— there is something profoundly fucked up and contradictory in Bristol’s new role. Either Tripp is a blessing or he’s a ‘mistake’ she wants to ‘help’ others avoid making.

Does she get paid good money for spokesjobs where she was only hired in an effort to suck up to the parents’ audience? Are her views of interest because they’re presumed to be reflective of how she was raised and what she was taught by the parent who won’t appear on the show and this is as close as we can get?

The point being that her spokesperson role is what’s contradictory, and the messages she wishes to send are contradictory.

“Don’t get pregnant, because it’s a terrible mistake to make. Just be abstinent.”

“I got pregnant as a teenager, and my baby is a blessing and a joy and I love him so much and I love my life with him.”

Mainly, to me, she’s just a big phony as a spokesperson; none of the girls she’s talking to have a life like hers, none has an extremely wealthy mother, none of them can get paid to be a spokesperson like her and get paid to be on the cover of People.

Well, to be fair she did address that point. Check out her first PSA there.

re: #275 iceweasel

She wants to promote Tripp as the best thing in her life at the same time as she’s going on tour saying ‘don’t get pregnant’. She also wants to be anti-abortion, and anti-choice more generally, as she’s advising not that ‘if you have sex, use birth control’ but rather ‘don’t have sex’.

It’s a huge mess. Sorry, i’m really just here to say hi and make silly shakespeare jokes; if you want a thorough response and analysis check my page in a day or two when I can get into it fully.

The best spokesperson for a ‘Don’t get pregnant campaign’ is someone who did not get pregnant.

Then again, I’m an average guy, not a marketing guru.

re: #265 The Shadow Do

What is contradictory? She is speaking as one who has made a mistake by getting irresponsibly pregnant, just as a convict can speak of his mistakes. The love of her baby is an entirely separate matter of course.

People do not generally tell their cautionary tales of mistakes they made while at the same time posing on magazine covers with the swag those mistakes brought them and boasting about how wonderful it turned out to be in the end.

How can you expect a teenager to take Bristol seriously as she goes around preaching abstinence when the cover of People magazine shows how hunky-dory everything is for her now?

Caribou Barbie should try reading Shakespeare (or at least the SparkNotes). She might learn a few things:

When workmen strive to do better than well,
They do confound their skill in covetousness;
And oftentimes excusing of a fault
Doth make the fault the worse by the excuse,
As patches set upon a little breach
Discredit more in hiding of the fault
Than did the fault before it was so patch’d.

Some pro-abstinent groups have said she’s a bad spokesperson for precisely the reasons I just gave; she’s happy, successful, and presents a positive image of being a teenage mother.

If the con who came to your school to warn you about prison was actually living a very nice life in a minimum security prison with a nice room and making lots of money off of book deals, you might not actually get scared of prison.

I for one like the idea of taking kids busted for DWI down to the morgue.

The best spokesperson for don’t get pregnant is either someone who didn’t get pregnant or someone whose life was ruined who had a kid when they shouldn’t have.

Well yeah, pretty much.

there’s also something very wrong about a mother going around and saying hey, i shouldnt have become a mother. Because that’s essentially what this puts her into.

For the record, I have a lot of sympathy for Bristol. In my opinion she wanted (very reasonably) to secure a future for her son— and I do believe that was her personal motivation, initially. Probably still is to a large extent.

She was only 17 when this started, and she was seized up and is being exploited by the rabid, always waiting, anti-choice lobby. And assorted profiteers. Her mother not least among them, imo.

More on that later anyway, too heavy for now. :)

People, a video of Netanyahu saying pretty unpleasant stuff was released today. The video itself is 9 years old, though.

Netanyahu In 2001: ‘America Is A Thing You Can Move Very Easily’

A newly released video of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could add some additional strain to the sometimes tense relationship between him and President Obama.

Here’s the video, which is from 2001, Netanyahu — who reportedly did not know his speech was being recorded — speaks frankly in Hebrew about relations with the Clinton White House and the peace process.

As noted in Haaretz, Netanyahu seems to boast of his knowledge of the US by saying, “I know what America is. America is a thing you can move very easily, move it in the right direction. They won’t get in their way.”

He also boasts of manipulating the U.S. in the ongoing peace process, as the Washington Post points out:

“They asked me before the election if I’d honor [the Oslo accords],” he said. “I said I would, but … I’m going to interpret the accords in such a way that would allow me to put an end to this galloping forward to the ‘67 borders. How did we do it? Nobody said what defined military zones were. Defined military zones are security zones; as far as I’m concerned, the entire Jordan Valley is a defined military zone. Go argue.”

Haaretz column on this:
haaretz.com

Here is the video, but it’s in Hebrew. English transcript in the youtube page.

It’s not so much even that (poor paper and notoriously anti-French) as the fact that the story is literally two days old. To my knowledge, the authorities are not fearing/expecting new riots - at least, not any more than usual. On a scale of one to five, France is always at about 3.5 when it comes to the possibility of riots in the suburban housing projects.

Srsly, it’s just good sense to have Plan B in your medicine cabinet. It’s called plan B for a reason— you take it when your other control fails. Condoms do break, people miss pills, sometimes both in the same month. What the fuck is with this crazy bullshit of “I guess I’ll wait a month to see if I’m pregnant and then HAVE to have an abortion?”

The only people ‘using abortion as birth control’ are american women who are denied access to birth control — in part because the religious right here has thrown a block at every potential FDA clearance and even over-ruled them. (hello Bush admin!)

That is the reason why other countries have lower rates of surgical abortion, people— because American women do not and have not, for YEARS, had access to the birth control and technology that the rest of the western world takes for granted. Wake up!

The less difference, the more culpability the news organization has.

Well, one thing I’ve noticed is that the top of the main LGF page - “top rated linkage” includes both Pages and Spin-offs, which I think sort of dilutes that function. I for one, and I expect others, don’t open a separate tab just for the “Pages” top page but use the triangle-controlled list at the top of the LGF home.

Other than that… I often have plenty of ideas but not enough time. To write a truly substantive entry that requires research, like I did with Robinson, takes 4 or 5 hours.

Engineers monitoring BP’s damaged well in the Gulf of Mexico detected seepage on the ocean floor that could mean problems with the cap that has stopped oil from gushing into the water, the U.S. government’s top oil spill official said on Sunday.

But late on Sunday, the U.S. government released a letter to BP Chief Managing Director Bob Dudley from retired Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen that referred to seepage near the mile-deep (1.6 km-deep) well as well as “undetermined anomalies at the well head.”

“I direct you to provide me a written procedure for opening the choke valve as quickly as possible without damaging the well should hydrocarbon seepage near the well head be confirmed,” Allen wrote.

re: #388 freetoken

I not knowledgeable of any criminologists who have investigated how many crimes are truly ideologically motivated - I’m pretty ignorant of that field.

However, I’ve got to think someone has studied this.

Probably not someone without an ideological motivation.

No seriously, crimes like those have certain commonalities, in many cases if not most what is relevant is the person. A person with a desire to harm people will find an ideology anywhere that justifies it. Some on the left (unibomber) some on the right (mcveigh).

What’s happening now is that certain strands favouring forms of wingnut paranoia have combined. So we see wingnuts committing idesologically motivated violent crimes. Some of those people would just as easily have used a leftwing justification. Some of them, many, are pushed over the edge by the wingnut fearmongering and hate about libs— but if the economy weren’t bad, etc, maybe it wouldnt have taken hold.

On an individual level the motivators for these crimes include recent stress factors in the person’s life: divorce, losing a job, etc. In a bad economy lots of people are losing jobs. There’s a dem POTUS, so blame the dems. And that doesnt even go into the hate radio on the right and more.

We’d see an uptick in certain forms of violence and paranoia now regardless of who won the election. Given that it was Obama, a black man and a dem, we’re seeing even more.

The Roi has been concerned enough about this integrity test that he sent an e-mail to the Governor’s office, telling them they should protest this. He felt all along they should should begin collection process, and not deal with the integrity test, which could place additional stresses on the thing and create seeps and leaks elsewhere, not just near the wellhead.

This is not good news.

The video was originally shown in a TV program called “This Week With Miki Rosenthal”. Needless to say, I have no idea who Miki Rosenthal or Gidean Levy is (it’s strange that that was an opinion column instead of straight reporting).

Do you understand spoken Hebrew? What do you make of the video?

Yes, I listened to the video. Bibi is visiting a family who has just lost loved ones in a bus bombing. They are telling him, “I am afraid to go outside. I am afraid to travel to the city,” etc.

This was at the time when there was a terrorist attack or bus bombing almost every other day.

Gideon Levy is a well-known “post Zionist” Hamas-enabling shill. His love for terrorists is only surpassed by his seething hatred for “settlers” and religious Jews.

Ah, no, that’s not going to happen.

It’s just another bit of evidence of BP’s total incompetence (according to the Roi), that they thought the integrity test needed to be done in the first place, rather than just starting the collection process.

At the time the new cap was put on, there were no seepages. The Roi’s concern, as told to me, was that the integrity test put pressure there that would cause the oil find other outlets - either other places to come out on the sea floor, or seepage into a reservoir at a different level, causing different sorts of problems.

I hope these tests aren’t an indication of problems that can’t be dealt with.

There is no doubt at all that there is a rise in right-wing hate and right-wing violence. No doubt about it at all.

But a few months ago some guy pissed off with right-wingers flew a plane into a house, killed himself, a couple of others, and the discussions here were oh-so-carefully focused on how this lone guy was a NUT, and not really a gone-wild left-winger.

Could the same argument be made about this incident? I don’t know enough to say so yet. But if it’s a possibility, could we not wait before we blame the right-wing for this one guy’s action?

Haaretz is a leftist organ. They are generally accurate as far as news articles go, but very pro-Palestinian and very much against “settlers” (anyone who lives outside the 1949 cease-fire lines) and generally against “Haredi” (“ultra-Orthodox”) Jews who live anywhere in Israel.

YNet (Yediot Aharonot) is ferociously anti-haredi, but has been known to defend the settlers and religious Zionists from time to time, and to attack them at other times. They are primarily a tabloid.

Jerusalem Post tries to be middle of the road but they have some moonbats writing anti-settler and anti-religious op-eds. (Larry Derfner and Gershon Baskin)

I didnt think anyone had?

There’s a few people here who spew OH YEAH AYERS WRIGHT BLARGH every time some mention of rightwing violence comes up (or any criticism of the right).

You’re not one of them but maybe that’s why people are responding vehemently? (I do this myself all the time)

My point is that politics is more often than not used as an excuse for crime. That applies to both left and right.

True…Bill O’Reilly basically called for the death of Dr. Tiller with his “Tiller the baby killer” rhetoric, and when someone took him up on it, he immediately backtracked so fast he was barely criticized for his rhetoric.

alouette’s taxonomy also [rightfully] noted the disadvantages, drawbacks, and flaws of the rightist news source arutz sheva. it really is like fox news, and should always be read as such.

however, “leftist” news outlets have a tendency to disregard hard facts on the ground, such as: a one.state solution ultimately negates jewish self.determination [jews don’t fare well in countries where we are the minority, see: the forgotten refugees forced out of middle east countries, not to mention the shoah]; there has been a jewish presence in israel and the middle east for hundreds, thousands of years; and land for peace has been tried before [after the six day war, gaza, camp david, etc.]. for those who believe that a jewish democratic state is both possible and necessary, these are sort of “unforgivable” media sins, rendering their reporting irreparably “slanted”, even though they sometimes do point out legitimate issues of social justice that are concerning.

the problem, in summation, is that ha’aretz often fails to provide context.

media in israel has the same sort of problem american media has - any slant in any direction taints objective reporting. jerusalem post probably does the best job of anyone over there, insofar as balanced [fox news has ruined that word for me] reporting is concerned.

op-eds, as always, are a different story. your mileage may vary.

*not to be construed as answering for alouette. merely offering my own opinion on israeli media.

re: #507 Stanley Sea

i like you, too.

it’s a very difficult deal everywhere. context, honesty from both sides, and facts are key.

recognizing that intelligent people will often come to different opinions based on individual value prioritization is also very important. sadly, i think this last point is often forgotten - and i mean that both for discussions of israel and in american political debates.

517 Nimed  Sun, Jul 18, 2010 9:35:09pm

re: #483 Alouette

A “post Zionist” is a Jew or Israeli who is ambivalent about Israel’s continued right to exist as a Jewish state, who recommends alternatives such as a “one state solution” where Israel is swamped by an influx of millions of “returning Palestinians” who change the character of the state from a state of refuge for Jews, to an Islamic majority state where Jews are barely tolerated as a minority.

Thanks again. To be frank, and because of the much reported demographic changes in the Israeli and Palestinian population, I didn’t know there were still people, in Israel of all places, in favor of one state solution — I thought there was a semi-consensus about the 1967 borders (which was the default position, so to speak, of every summit since then).

Netanyahu does seem to speak against them, though:

Netanyahu: I’ll give such interpretation to the Accords that will make it possible for me to stop this galloping to the ‘67 [armistice] lines. How did we do it?

Narrator: The Oslo Accords stated at the time that Israel would gradually hand over territories to the Palestinians in three different pulses, unless the territories in question had settlements or military sites. This is where Netanyahu found a loophole.

Netanyahu: No one said what defined military sites. Defined military sites, I said, were security zones. As far as I’m concerned, the Jordan Valley is a defined military site.

i think it [it being a one.state solution] is a “far israeli left” position. what you’ll hear more frequently from the general left is a greater willingness to cede the golan + other territories - less reluctance to moving back to the borders immediately subsequent to the war for independence [or even the un partition plan].

this is arguably a more leftist position, and not moderate one, because given the rampant hatred in surrounding countries, the original borders are national suicide from a military standpoint.

Thanks! It’s so hard getting at truth in just one country though— trying to understand the spin and media players in yet another is incredibly difficult without some insight from such as yourself. Really, really appreciated. Alouette’s post on Israeli media was super helpful also, but you’re right— we all need as much info as we can get and having a variety of perspectives gives us invaluable help.

It’s really hard to get at truth when you can’t even formulate the right questions to ask because you just don’t know enough. It’s really nice when we can exchange information and ask questions here without hostility arising. Not every question is a dishonest question even when it seems clueless to those better informed (i do this a lot myself sometimes too).Thank you for you help!

Politics everywhere else in the world is broader than what we find in the US. We’ve always been a culture that has argued a very narrow spectrum. As I like to say, two sides of the same coin.

That’s also my experience. Having Israelis and Palestinians share a nationality after all these years of conflict, though; it sounds like a sure proof recipe for disaster.

re: #552 Kefirah

open hostility is for those who deny israel’s right to exist as a jewish, democratic state. it’s for people who would rather strap bombs to their children than see the medinat continue.

and it’s equally for people who would like to see israeli arabs stripped of all rights or citizenship altogether.

also for glenn beck.

other than that, respectful debate is the goal!

yeah, as I’ve said before the existence of Israel and her right to defend that existence is to me a moral imperative, as is supporting and assisting her in defending both. That’s it. No debate on that can be respectful because people who pretend that’s up for ‘debate’ are NOT respectful or worthy of respect (to say the least).

But apart from trolls from stormfront or wherever, I don’t think ANYONE here disagrees with that.

I do see the ‘anti-israel’ and ‘anti-semite’ card played here when someone asks a question like I did though, at times. Thanks for all being very cool and very helpful about it. I come here because i learn from people.

No problem :) Too bad you weren’t around yesterday for the thread where there was a brief discussion about Margaret Atwood’s novel The Handmaid’s Tale - someone else (I think CuriousLurker) said that, whenever she sees Palin she thinks of that book. I do too, especially when issues of reproductive freedom (or the lack thereof) come up. I mean, I *still* can’t fathom how access to frigging birth control is such an issue in the States, with some pharmacies refusing to sell it!! Forgive my language, but what the bloody fuck from the depths of hell kind of stupidity is that?! In Canada (by contrast), Plan B emergency contraception is not only available without a prescription, but advertised on the radio (er, not that I’ve ever had a need for it personally…but I’m definitely relieved and grateful it’s available to others who do!)

The problem the anti-abortion lobby has with emergency contraception is that it works (at least in part) by preventing the attachment of the fertilized egg to the uterine lining, rather than preventing fertilization like standard contraceptives do. Thus to them it’s a form of abortion. I don’t agree with them at all on this issue (in fact I’m a pharmacist myself and have sold/dispensed the morning after pill on countless occasions), but it does make sense from their worldview.

Now the ones who oppose *any* form of contraception being available….

re: #559 Stanley Sea

as with everything: depends.

i find it problematic from a spiritual/religious perspective if you are talking about the supremely messianic [as opposed to just normally messianic, i guess?] folk who support israel because they’d love to see all jews end up in the medinat so that the “second coming” can begin. sure, these people provide financial and political support, but at the expense of truly objective help [which can include criticism, from time to time].

however, i think there are a lot of middle.of.the.road rights who see israel as a democracy in the middle east, and a friend: a state where homosexuals are not hung from lamp posts [indeed, there’s a pretty fabulous parade in tel aviv!], where minority groups are given rights [even if those rights are sometimes adjusted to account for very legitimate security concerns], and where western values generally flourish.

that sort of support is legitimate, in my opinion. problem is, it’s hard to tell the difference.

so, my motto: take unblinking, unwavering support the same as i take constant haranguing and tongue.lashing - with a giant grain of kosher salt.

*disclaimer: i am a texan. yes, we have similar weather to israel, but i am not a sabra/israeli. that said, i teach a zionism course and have friends over there in school and in the army, so i keep up with daily politics and probably have an opinion or factual response for most questions. if i don’t, you’ll be the first to know.

Can you imagine if there were a Simpsons or Family Guy short like that in this day and age? People from all over the political spectrum would absolutely lose their shit.

That cartoon was made in a very unusual time: A time when our nation needed to make a maximum effort to survive. In such a time, sacrifice can be extolled in a way impossible in other times. These days, our wars don’t require a maximum effort from the entire nation and such an effort wouldn’t be a guarantee of victory in any case, sad to say.

You want to know what I had to deal with the other night? Well, I suddenly vanished from LGF.

My CPU bracket broke and off went the heat sink and fan. The computer just went…OFF. Any way. I had to search for what was left of the broken piece and proceeded to repair it with crazy glue and I reinforced it with extra strip of plastic. Finding the piece took hours and I had to open up the PSU, unplug a lot of stuff like the GPU and clean it while I was at it.

Put it back together again and nothing. Wouldn’t boot and wouldn’t even go to CMOS. There were some loose connection (or I might need new SATA cables). Finally got it running again after 6 hours of work.

Whew.

No, he’s not. His Death Star was constructed to the improved Death Star II standards. The thermal exhaust ports were replaced by thermal diffusion ducts only 1mm wide. Putting a shot into them is impossible.

Your over-confidence is your weakness.

Troopers? Ha! Those stumble-dicks can’t even shoot straight, or properly identify droids. You really think they could get my gear off? Get real.

:)

I will not include a self-destruct mechanism unless absolutely necessary. If it is necessary, it will not be a large red button labeled “Danger: Do Not Push”. The big red button marked “Do Not Push” will instead trigger a spray of bullets on anyone stupid enough to disregard it. Similarly, the ON/OFF switch will not clearly be labeled as such.

He’s got thousands of them and his are better trained. That’s also on the evil overlord’s list. And if they capture you, you won’t get an elaborate death: He’ll use FORCE GAZE and you’ll burn to ashes.

Being genre savvy won’t save you. Underdogs never lose.

But don’t worry, I’ll save the villain.

BOOO!
:P

If all the heroes are standing together around a strange device and begin to taunt me, I will pull out a conventional weapon instead of using my unstoppable superweapon on them.

Force Gaze? Force Gaze? Really? You honestly believe in that foolishness? Hahahaha!

Don’t try to frighten me with his “sorcery”. His sad devotion to that ancient religion will be his downfall.

You call that a list? Now *this* is a list. The canonical list of famous last words:

My personal favorite: “I want to be a paladin”. (Said in a Ravenloft session.)

Ah, chickening out when you encounter a Force-Atheist?

See, I told you all that “Force” crap was a bunch of baloney.
I mean “Midi-chlorians”? C’mon! That’s like believing in Robot Santa.

Falcon, Raith? I can’t believe you let such an easy pass float right passed you. I am disappoint.

Pineapple and bacon.

It’s the perfect mix of sweet and salty, crunchy and squishy…

If this was brookly red’s blog, that would be your last post.
