Tech Note: LGF Pages Tweaked to Feature More Writers
We have a big change in the way our “Recent Pages” area works. That’s the place in our right sidebar that shows the LGF Pages most recently posted by our writers.
Previously, it would show all the recent Pages in order; but we’ve noticed that some of you are much more prolific posters than others, and sometimes good stuff would scroll off the bottom of the Recent Pages list before getting noticed.
My first idea to address this problem was to impose a limit on the number of Pages that could be posted per day — but as I thought more about it, I realized I didn’t want to do that, because it would stifle a lot of good links to interesting stuff.
Today LGF reader Sergey Romanov suggested a way to reconcile these two goals: instead of limiting the number of Pages each user can post, make the Recent Pages list show only the most recent post from each of the last 10 unique authors.
This approach seems to work well to keep interesting stuff on that list for longer periods of time.
Another new feature, in both the Featured and Recent Pages: if you hover over an author’s name, a popup list will appear with all the info on their previous 5 Pages. This way, even though you only see the most recent Page by any one author, you can quickly see what else they’ve been posting (and how popular it is) by hovering over their name.
