Tech Note: jQuery 1.6 Installed, All Systems Go

A significant upgrade to the best Javascript framework
LGF • Views: 32,486

jQuery 1.6 has been released, and after testing, it’s now installed at LGF. Here’s a thread to report any problems or anomalies.

I’ve tested so far in Safari, Chrome, and Firefox in Mac OS, and Internet Explorer 8 in Windows, with no problems.

There is a problem several people have reported with Internet Explorer 7 (unrelated to the new version of jQuery), that I’m finding very difficult to track down. Unfortunately, it’s a crashing bug — IE7 starts loading the page, then issues a cryptic error message and bugs out. I usually suspect Javascript with these kinds of problems, but I’ve actually tested with no Javascript loading at all, and IE7 still crashes.

I’ve even reverted to a version of the site’s code from two months ago, when I’m pretty sure IE7 was working, and it still crashes. Odd. The HTML for the page validates perfectly, and Googling for IE7’s error message didn’t reveal anything helpful (it’s an “appcrash” in iexplore.exe and module ntdll.dll). So I’m grateful for any suggestions from techies on where to look.

Have I mentioned lately what a $#%@ %$#^&@ Internet Explorer is?

Nope -- the problem with LGF happens just trying to load the page. It starts loading, then crashes.

Geller should join Human Rights Watch, they have a lot i9n common.

Here's a moonbat from HRW questioning the legality of killing UBL. I guess there aren't many non terrorists out there who's Human Rights are being violated right now. They need to find something to get some news exposure.

HRW embarrasses itself, again

Have you started a process monitor then run the load=>crash?

I think with HRW the word should be "still" not "again".

Politics, opinion and all the latest on web frameworks. That's why I love LGF! :)

I recently upgraded to Internet Explorer 9. And I must say, this really is an improvement speed wise compared to IE8 when it comes to reading LGF. Especially when a thread totally explodes into a posting frenzy. The pages take way less amount of time to load than the previous edition.

The bookmarks moved to the top of the page and the "favorites" moved to the top right, which takes some adjusting on my part. There's more room for the main site information on the screen with IE9. The search window in IE8 is now integrated into the address bar which also saves space. (Still redirects me to my main search engine Google instead of MSN.)

So far, apart from the adjusting, IE9 is far from perfect but at least it's an improvement to IE8. That's my experience to date.

Any additions to make, Charles?

So Jerry Lewis wrote this code? No wonder it crashes...

Does the error message say "Ha, ha, Pretty lady!"

///perhaps if LGF had a header with a large breasted woman in a low cut gown it would work?

(Wonders if anyone under 50 will even get this in the slightest)

How did people's neurons get so twisted? Is it the hole in the ozone? WHAT?? Why is thinking semi-logically so painfully HARD for so many? And Bryan Fischer once again can't resist making himself look like a complete cock-gobbler.

I Welcome the Democrats to The “Support Capital Punishment” Club

They cannot stop congratulating themselves and President Obama for directing the double-tap-to-the-head operation that left Osama bin Laden’s compound covered in blood. The Democrats love it!

The president said, of this execution style slaying, “Justice has been done.” And Democrats gleefully cheer in wholehearted agreement.

They seem oblivious to what they have done here. They have, by the words that have come from their own mouths, applauded the use of the death penalty – by firing squad, no less – as an instrument of justice.

Welcome, welcome, I say to the world of conservative principle. What took you so long?

The Democrats cannot say enough wonderful things about the leadership and resolve of our commander in chief, who also could not say enough wonderful things about our commander in chief in his address to the nation on Sunday night.

Running through the entire thesaurus of first person pronouns – I, me, my, mine – he spoke as if he himself had pulled the trigger. He couldn’t stop talking about how he had made the decision, he had organized the team, he had reviewed the intelligence, he had issued the directive. This operation, he made clear to the Muslim world, was his doing.

What Obama has failed to realize is that he has proudly proclaimed that he is the infidel and Muslim apostate who took out the lion of Islam. Apparently heedless of what he was doing, he has just invited all the vitriol, hatred and animosity of the entire Muslim world down upon his own head.

He had no interest in sharing with President Bush any of the responsibility for Osama getting his head blown off and his body dumped unceremoniously in the deep blue sea. Nope, he was intent on taking 100% of the credit.

2) People shouldn't use IE 6 or 7 anymore. If you are, change.
3) Did you try reverting IE8 to "factory settings"? That fixed it for me on my own site I design and maintain professionally for my job. It does more than just clear the cache. And yes, it was IE8 that caused problems until I did that. It wasn't even identifying as IE8 until I did that.

As pirate attacks grow, shipowners take arms

Until last year, security contractors -- as most in the industry call themselves -- usually acted as unarmed advisers, helping overstretched, undertrained crews keep watch for pirates, and ensuring captains held their nerve under attack. A ship's master was advised to stick to routes patrolled by naval forces, use razor wire and water cannon to prevent pirates from boarding and -- crucially -- keep the vessel moving.

Now, though, more and more ships carry their own weapons. Trawlers and other deep-sea fishing vessels routinely carry heavy machine guns. Before a ship enters port, industry insiders say, the arms are hidden or thrown overboard; that way, no-one gets caught breaking the law.

The shipping industry says it's taking that step extremely reluctantly. The International Maritime Organization (IMO), the United Nations body charged with ensuring the safety of shipping, advises against seafarers carrying weapons, but leaves the decision on whether they travel with specialist security personnel up to the state where a ship is registered.

"We spent three years advising against carrying armed security details," says Peter Hinchcliffe, a former British submarine commander who is now chairman of the London-based International Chamber of Shipping. "It's something I feel very uncomfortable about. But the situation has deteriorated to the extent that sometimes now there is just no choice, even though it is a legal minefield."

Several experts and military officers say there might now be at least one firefight between contractors and pirates every day, although many are never reported.

LEGAL GREY AREA

"Right guys, the current IMO guidelines are against the carriage of weapons and you need to be aware of this," Williams tells his class. "But things are changing all the time. Legally speaking, it's complicated, to put it mildly. In Iraq, it is very clear. You work under the rules of the country. Here, there are many more grey areas."

Over the last two centuries, the use of military force at sea has become largely the preserve of states. The legal basis under which modern-day cargo ships -- with their often multinational crews and ownership structures -- can use lethal weaponry is far from clear, and the IMO guidelines have no weight in international law.

Williams tells his students that their best bet is to find a reputable security company that operates with clear rules of engagement -- but that even then, it may be impossible to avoid a whole host of legal dangers.

"We are former servicemen, and as such are simple creatures, but you can guarantee the ambulance-chasers and human rights lawyers are sitting on the sidelines watching this," he says.

Things are getting bad for Qaddafi:

11:27pm
Gaddafi troops using rockets with a range reaching 100 kilometres, carrying cluster munitions, have been deployed at western Kakla gate. Groups of Gaddafi troops have surrendered themselves to the Tunisian army after crossing into Tunisian territories via al-Assa district.
NATO has meanwhile bombarded and destroyed tanks manned by Gaddafi troops.

Unconfirmed news said rebel fighters in Misurata have succeeded in capturing one of the key figures of Gaddafi troops, while Misurata port is still closed, while rebel fighters said they had repelled an attack by Gaddafi armoured brigades there.

OT: Thinking about the Playstation fiasco, not to mention Wikileaks and others; even though it is hard to prevent all hacking, even with stolen passwords, how hard could it be to have a system that will simply not allow any large data dumps to come from certain databases?

Even if they are accessed constantly internally, there have to be characteristic that would identify any non legitimate bulk data transfer, particularly if it comes from (or goes to) an outside address.

Well, yeah ... but the problem is that a hacker who gains root access (which the Sony PS hacker did) can disable any protection like that.

Need help finding a link debunking a e-mail I received about Obama talking 16 hours to make up his mind about the SEAL mission. The story starts with the normal, BS Daily Mail, and they reference the NYT, but provide no link.

"The mission looked set to be given the all clear last Thursday when analysts confirmed beyond doubt that Bin Laden was in busy town of Abbottabad in northern Pakistan.

But the president stunned officials when he told a national security meeting that he wanted more time to think - and disappeared out of the room.

'I'm not going to tell you what my decision is now - I'm going to go back and think about it some more,' said Obama, according to the New York Times. He then added 'I'm going to make a decision soon."
I can't find anything from the NYT saying that and the story is making the rounds already. Of course a 16 hour delay to ponder the mission would be no major scandal anyway.

Terrorist Attack in Benghazi:

12:55am
Officials say a car bomb in the opposition stronghold of Benghazi has slightly injured two people.

The blast caused hundreds of men, many carrying weapons, to come out onto the street and climb on top of the twisted wreckage of the car to yell slogans against Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan leader.

Nasser Warfuli, a local journalist, identified the car as a white Chevrolet, and said it exploded just before evening prayers.

Doctors at al-Jalaa hospital say two people suffered superficial shrapnel wounds.

Then build non modifiable hardware protection into the servers. The code can be changed by physically removing a chip and burning new code into another one.

With a title like ZOMBIE WOMEN OF SATAN, one doesn’t expect a particularly enlightening cinematic experience. The barely expect a decent movie. From the title, one might expect a lot of campy, gory fun. What we get instead is an aggressively unfunny pile with no scares, lousy gore, and some of the ugliest women on the planet. This is seriously one of the worst films I have EVER seen. Made some smarmy Brits who somehow roped a bunch of their friends into making this whirlwind of crap. Honestly… this is such a terrible film that one is tempted to hunt each and every one of the filmmakers are junk-punch them. Avoid this cr*p, kids. Avoid it like the plague.

How did people's neurons get so twisted? Is it the hole in the ozone? WHAT?? Why is thinking semi-logically so painfully HARD for so many? 16 hours after 10 years of intelligence gathering. As I understand it there was no reason to think he was there for a short visit only.

Are you old enough to remember Carter's Iran? A pilot mistake caused a ground collission between two aircraft on a desert strip in Iran. Killing several and aborting the mission. It was really the end of Carter's presidency, and it was pilot error.

This operation could have been very similar. I don't buy mechanical failure. A pilot made a mistake that resulted in a hard landing in the compound. It could have killed all on board and we could have had a Carter all over again.

Do you think Obama didn't know that, let alone the possibility of no UBL in the compound?

I read this story earlier today (not in the Daily Mail), but can't find it now. Anyway, it didn't seem unreasonable to me for Obama to ponder and weigh all the options before sending our men into another country where we weren't supposed to be and where their lives were at great risk. And the voting system is very broken. From Wiki:

After the election, the Spanish newspaper El País suggested that the PSUV and the MUD would have finished with 80 seats each had the elections been run under the previous system. The Director of the National Electoral Council (CNE) said that districts were drawn according to a standard national formula, and pointed out that the disproportionality involved in Venezuela's state-based mixed member majoritarian system didn't uniquely favour one party: in four states (Zulia, Tachira, Anzoategui and Nueva Esparta) PSUV obtained over 40% of the vote, but won only 7 seats against the opposition's 27.

re: #120 brookly red

why would you want to debunk it?... it sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Now I am not an Obama fan at all, but taking the time to make a responsible decision sounds like the right thing to do...

Because this is how it's being spun, with the NYT quote I found:

"7 Minutes Vs. 16 Hours: How The Media Reports Delay

George Bush was relentlessly mocked for waiting seven minutes (actually waiting for his security detail to ready the exit and for his vehicle to be readied) before leaving the school he was visiting. He calmly finished reading My Pet Goat for the kids before going to his now-ready helicopter.

On the other hand, after Obama was told (most likely for the fifteenth time) that the CIA was really, really, really quite confident that Osama bin Ladin was at that compound in Abbottabad, he decided he needed to sleep on it.

Sixteen hours later (hours during which Osama might have fled-- bear in mind, his courier's name had just been outed by WikiLeaks), he made up his mind.

How does the media report this? Well, relying upon those in Obama's inner circle (that is to say, his political flunkies and spinners), we're told this:

"But the next morning after 16 hours, Obama summoned four top aides to the White House Diplomatic Room. Before they could speak, the president put his fist on the table and declared 'It's a go'." (NYT)
Why does it matter that he did this "before they could speak"? They had spoken already yesterday when they strongly, strongly urged the president to give the order, and he had decided to sleep on it.

They were only waiting on him, after all.

So, after 16 hours of vacillation, during which the operation might have been rendered a failure by intervening invents, he fist-bumps a piece of furniture and finally makes up his mind.

This is something to brag about? This is, in Howard Fineman's words, "almost Biblical"?

Seems like a very cautious, feckless, indecisive individual delaying and delaying on critical decisions and then attempting to sound heroic when he finally does what he's being paid to do."

It's my understanding that the compound was under 24/7 surveillance for quite a bit of time prior to the raid; and likely would have remained under surveillance if they did NOT proceed with the raid. So if OBL had moved, someone would have known when, and probably would have followed him to the where.

Well, yeah ... but the problem is that a hacker who gains root access (which the Sony PS hacker did) can disable any protection like that.

I don't want to belabor the point, but I am not an expert on this, like you :)

However, why can one not, for sensitive data servers, have an independent router, not accessible via the network, through which all traffic passes and from which all traffic patterns are analysed and allowed or not allowed?

My CC provider calls me 10 minutes after I use my card in some way that is outside my usual pattern, and they hold the payment until I confirm. I just don't understand how billion dollar corporations can't do that with their sensitive data.

Well, I guess I'd reply that those kinds of strange traffic requests are better handled by competent sysadmins. There's no reason in theory why such a hardware protection system couldn't work, but with the Playstation network, they're already in the business of transferring very large amounts of data routinely -- the user database may have been relatively small in comparison to an update for Dead Space 2, for example.

Sony was apparently shockingly lax in their security. The user passwords were reportedly not even hashed. Stored in plain text. Yikes.

286 ProGunLiberal  Tue, May 3, 2011 5:44:35pm

Also, let's all have a LOL at the Qaddafi Gov't, who thinks that over amnesty to rebels will solve Qaddafi's problems:

1:41am
Khaled Kaim, the Libya deputy foreign minister, says that an amnesty that had been announced to any Libyan rebels who laid down their arms expired at midnight.

He has, however, called on the justice minister to extend it for "at least another day or two, because there are good signs among people there in Misurata".

On Gaddafi's physical condition after the government said he narrowly escaped a NATO air strike on Saturday, Kaim said: "He is very well". He added that Gaddafi had met on Tuesday with tribal leaders.

He's as delusional as Hitler was in his last months. He's is not in the position of power in this fight. The rebels just have to hold, and Qaddafi runs out of supplies.

The abbreviation Paki acquired offensive connotations in the 1960s when used by British tabloids to refer to subjects of former colony states in a derogatory and racist manner. In modern British usage "Paki" is typically used in a derogatory way as a label for all South Asians, including Indians, Afghans and Bangladeshis. To a lesser extent, the term has been applied as a racial slur towards Arabs and other Middle Eastern-looking groups who may resemble South Asians. During the 60's many emigrants were also dubbed as "black" to further segregrate them from the white community. Some would say such a division still exists in parts of England.
In recent times there has been a trend by second and third-generation British Pakistanis to reclaim the word. The word has been turned into a keepsake for the young British Pakistani community that is not acceptable for someone outside the community to say it, including Indians and Bangladeshis.

House Votes To Cut Funds For Key Part Of Health Law

The Republican-led House approved Tuesday another bill aimed at defunding parts of last year's huge health care overhaul, but the measure doesn't stand much of a chance in the Democratic-led Senate.

The bill would eliminate funding available to states to help them create and set up the health marketplaces known as exchanges, where individuals and small businesses will be able to purchase health insurance starting in 2 1/2 years. Under the health care law, the health and human services secretary can grant funds to the states without going through the annual congressional budget process.

The Congressional Budget Office says eliminating the funding would save money — since fewer people would get insurance from the exchanges. But it would also result in the federal government, rather than the states, running many of the exchanges itself.

No, I am aware of that and other insult slangs, but in my experience I had not considered the Pakistanis to be so persecuted in this manner and have felt it was just a PC manifestation without real history.

The term originated as a slur in the UK in reference to Pakistani immigrants. Over there, they really don't like it.

I don't like seeing it used because it would be like somebody in England using N---, not having the same cultural associations. That wouldn't be okay, and this isn't either.

Intent and context. I believe it was an academic usage when applied to the small group who are Hottentots. In Africa and the Americas, white settlers often fell into the trap of asking a friendly tribe for the name of the competing native group over the next hill. Hence the tribe named 'Stinkards'.

really? The only time I've ever read that is in an ancient Bloom County strip, and it was used by a character who was really old IIRC

It was in common use for a specific language sub-group in 60s anthropology texts. I've just looked, and about half the google hits show it as 'now pejorative' while others, like the Catholic Encyclopedia, use it without concern.

To me, if I say something that insults someone, I stop saying it. Certainly, there's terminology used in some parts of the world that are or are not insulting in others. So yea, it's geographical, but if someone doesn't like it, I stop it and make a note of it. What's wrong with that?

Her and Trump are toast. I see some fretting from the GOP about the Bin Laden kill and how it's going to effect the GOP race. It's far too late for the gop to find a real candidate. I doubt they are even going to try to win in 2012. The economy recovered and all their doomsday predictions never happened. They threw away the election a long time ago.

Bristol Palin Bans Sarah Palin From Her Home

"Bristol Palin has reportedly banned her mother Sarah from her new house in Maricopa because she is too controlling - and too conservative.

The 20-year-old has become increasingly liberal since her appearance on Dancing with the Stars, and is said to have had a huge row with Mrs Palin when she announced she was considering supporting gay marriage.

According to the National Enquirer, she has told her mother to stay out of her house until she accepts her new views - which Mrs. Palin is worried could harm her own political ambitions."

Palin continued down that track by insisting that a president must be able to articulate “clearly defined objectives” before foreign interventions

Clearly defined objectives doesn't mean a slogan, so she'd fail her own test.

Had it been a Republican behind the Libyan military/NATO action the usual suspects would have been happy enough to see "let's go kick some Gaddafi/Libyan ass" as a clearly defined objective. Visions of Pan Am/Lockerbie would have been splashed across the headlines.

I found the speech on Sarah's PAC page. I liked this special helping of word salad.

There’s a lesson here then for the effective use of force, as opposed to sending our troops on missions that are ill-defined. And it can be argued that our involvement elsewhere, say in Libya, is an example of a lack of clarity.

See, these are deadly serious questions that we must ask ourselves when we contemplate sending Americans into harm’s way. Our men and women in uniform deserve a clear understanding of U.S. positions on such a crucial decision.

I believe our criteria before we send our young men and women—America’s finest—into harm’s way should be spelled out clearly when it comes to the use of our military force.

And if we followed Sarah's Most Awesome Foreign Policy Advice (tm), Osama would be dying of natural causes.

508 Dancing along the light of day  Tue, May 3, 2011 7:32:35pm

Looking up "ethnic" and "ethnic group"
An ethnic group (or ethnicity) is a group of people whose members identify with each other, through a common heritage, often consisting of a common language, a common culture (often including a shared religion) and an ideology that stresses common ancestry or endogamy.[1][2] ,[3] "...in general it is a highly biologically self-perpetuating group sharing an interest in a homeland connected with a specific geographical area, a common language and traditions, including food preferences, and a common religious faith".[4]

Members of an ethnic group are conscious of belonging to an ethnic group; moreover ethnic identity is further marked by the recognition from others of a group's distinctiveness. Processes that result in the emergence of such identification are called ethnogenesis.

I doubt she knows what she means. Palin just likes to use shiny phrases like "men and women in uniform". I still find it interesting that many public figures who like to talk about all we owe "men and women in uniform" (I wonder if that includes cosplayers) never bothered "owing" them their companionship in a uniform. "Men and women in uniform" are a great rhetorical place to visit, but they wouldn't want to live there.

Currently I've rolled back to Gnome 2.x, but that's only going to be short-term until I decide on whether to completely switch over to KDE (which I haven't liked in a LONG time) or bail on it completely.

May 3rd
The port is still closed, for the 2nd day in a row, due to the fact that some mines could still be present in the waters. None of the ships currently waiting in international waters could come in, and a Turkish ship still can’t unload supplies. The morale of the citizens is still high despite the fact that they have no electricity, water or medicine.

You send in minesweepers and have them use active sonar. Then you hope them don't get blown up. It's dangerous work. Naval minefields are just as nasty as their land-based kin, though they are not banned in the same way. This is largely because they are used far less often and almost always by governments in limited areas. That still does not excuse Gaddafi, of course.

There are actual scientific underpinnings to warp drive. The problem IIRC is that a warp field would be by its very nature impossible to "steer", so you could theoretically go warp speed, but not in any vectorially interesting sense... Kind of like taking a cab from Midtown to JFK.

According to General Relativity, faster-than-light travel is possible, in principle. Space can expand and contract, so by compressing the space in front of you and expanding the space behind you, it would be possible to traverse immense distances very quickly. The problem is the amount of energy required. (That, and the fact that we still can't build an airplane that doesn't crash if it hits a bird)

Just as well I got to this thread late, else I might have said something to him jeopardizing my account. :/

On a more positive note, I'll just post something I came across on Facebook...food for thought, next time you find yourself falling into a monolithic view of a culture or country:

Dear Friends, many of you have been sending me messages to see how my family and I are doing. Thank you for your concern. Some have asked about the reactions of locals around me to yesterday's news, or the tv images of American's dancing in the streets of Washington and New York: "Is Pakistan Upset with America?" Well ~ from my perspective ~ the majority of Pakistan’s citizens live a daily struggle for basic necessities - food, clean water, shelter and safety. The reported finding and death of OBL was shocking to locals who now fear that diverse global reactions and political backlashes to the news may jeopardize Pakistan's fragile stability even more. Quite honestly - they don’t have time to dance in the streets, and most people my family and I interact with aren’t concerned with US citizens doing it either… they are simply too busy trying to live on less than 1 US dollar a day. Politicians living in million dollar homes while locals go hungry…or world famous terrorists living in million dollar homes while locals go hungry… they both make my other neighbours and I equally upset.

612 Achilles Tang  Tue, May 3, 2011 8:38:10pm

I just came back from watching some TV. Sorry to see a discussion went off the rails for one. Maybe it was bad hooch. I hope we can kiss and make up.

Talking of going off the rails, it is depressing to see the talking heads so focussed on whether waterboarding gave any useful information on getting UBL (IE credit to who). It's kind of like discussing whether hurricane Katrina was caused by someone who stomped a caterpillar in Africa, and prevented the butterfly that would have directed it to Cuba instead.

There should be a less polite term for speculation on hindsight.

I'm sure there is.

Goodnight.

My old man played some softball back in the Navy, when he was a younger man and could get away with it. Tore a ligament in his ankle one time and had to have it reattached via metal screw. Nowadays, his knees are pretty much shot, which he attributes solely to 20+ years of tromping around on metal decks, but I'm willing to bet that all those years of softball didn't help him none.

So far ZERO evidence has been presented by the Soetoro regime that ANY of this has happened, and until evidence IS presented, my only conclusion is this is once again another scam perpetrated by Mr. Soetoro to draw attention away from himself. I can imagine it was getting awfully hot in the WH with Mr. Trump constantly breathing down the back of our first foreign born Islamic posing as a US President, so what to do? Hey I know! A miracle has happened! We found Hitler hiding out in Graceland! And we....we..we killed him! yeah that’s it! And we immediately dumped him into the ocean so nobody can ever ever find him! If OBL were still alive, he wouldn't have wasted time making that apparent. Hell, Al-Q would have called bullshit on the whole deal within the first 24 hours. They sure as frak have no reason to be playing along with all this, so why would they? Let me guess, it's also a total fabrication, something created from whole cloth by past administrations to one day use in an elaborate false flag operation (9/11) in order to have an excuse to wage two wars in the Middle East.

They good news is that line seems to be the minority. Most on the right aren't crediting Obama, but they are giving the SEALs and CIA the praise deserved. I don't agree with that myself: While calling Obama's action one of the "most gutsiest" actions in presidential history, as John Brennen did, is inaccurate. The lion's share of the credit clearly belongs to the SEALs and the CIA. That having been said, Obama did make the right decisions throughout the process leading up to the raid and he was right to order the raid itself.

They're going into the '12 election painting the man as "weak" on foreign policy, unable to make the hard decisions, and so are latching onto the belief that he was avoiding the call to capture/kill OBL until the decision was taken out of his hands. In addition to the "mutiny" meme that Geller's pushing, the other one is that part of the info released by Wikileaks last week was our knowing who OBL's courier was. And that the release forced Obama's hand, forcing the mission for fear that OBL would figure out his location was known and bolt.

Apparently so, but apparently nobody thought to look for it until after OBL's head got ventilated. Now, like all good little Monday Morning QBs, they're developing their own conclusions about what it all means. And the cynical view is that Obama made his move only because of the release, that he had no intention of doing so otherwise.

Charles -- The IE7 crash looks like a stack overflow in MSHTML (I reproduced it in an old virtual machine). It goes into some sort of infinite (or at least ridiculously deep) recursion doing some sort of DOM/CSS/notification-something style handling. Any way there could somehow be a recursive or utterly insanely deep DOM or CSS structure?

If the crash is CSS-related it is plausible that the problem is the IE7 CSS issue mentioned in #467.
