Creationist Dentist Gets the Boot

US News • Views: 4,167

Texas Governor Rick Perry may have won the Republican primary yesterday, but one of his main operatives, creationist dentist Don McLeroy, got thrown out.

In the March 2, 2010, primary election, avowed young-earth creationist Don McLeroy narrowly lost his bid to be the Republican candidate for the District 9 seat on the Texas state board of education. As the Dallas Morning News (March 3, 2010) reported, “The fiercely contested race pitted McLeroy, a dentist from College Station and member of the board’s social conservative bloc, against [Thomas] Ratliff, a legislative consultant and son of former Lt. Gov. Bill Ratliff,” who is viewed as likely to side with the moderates on the board. There is no Democratic candidate for the seat, so Ratliff is expected to be elected in November 2010.

Originally elected to the board in 1998, McLeroy was persistently determined to undermine the treatment of evolution in Texas’s public schools. During the debate over biology textbook adoption in 2003, he was one of the four members of the board who misused the state science standards to oppose adopting the eleven textbooks under consideration. His attacks on science education — including his endorsement of a book that described parents who want their children to learn about evolution as “monsters” — were in part responsible for the state senate’s refusal to confirm him as chair of the board in May 2009, as NCSE previously reported.

This is a victory in the battle against the forces who are intent on instilling Dark Ages ignorance in Texas schoolchildren, but the war isn’t over. They’ll be back.

TFN President: Voters on Tuesday Rejected ‘Culture War’ Battles on Education Board

Voters made it clear on Tuesday that they are tired of seeing the State Board of Education threaten the future of Texas schoolchildren with unnecessary and divisive “culture war” battles over curriculum and textbooks, the president of the Texas Freedom Network said today.

TFN President Kathy Miller noted that three of five far-right social conservatives lost election contests on Tuesday. A fourth was forced into a runoff. One of the defeated candidates was Don McLeroy, whom the state Senate refused to confirm for a second term as board chair in May 2009.

Good. I support conservative values, but historical revisionism is not such a value, being instead a value of far-right reactionaries.

Two more scores:

The Republican primary between McLeroy and challenger Thomas Ratliff of Mount Pleasant had the highest profile of all the state board contests. In addition to McLeroy’s defeat in District 9, Randy Rives of Odessa lost his race against incumbent Bob Craig of Lubbock in the District 15 Republican primary, and Joan Muenzler lost her District 3 GOP primary against fellow San Antonian Tony Cunningham. Both Rives and Muenzler were backed by far-right groups such as WallBuilders and the Texas Pastor Council.tfn.org

Dan Rheil is having a hissy fit over healthcare reform…..

When the alleged leader of a democratic republic places his own wishes so above those of the complete body politic, he is no longer worthy of the title, leader, no matter what office he might occupy.

Only a fool with no clear appreciation of, or for, America past and present, would dare undertake what this pustule in the White House is attempting to do.
…..
If the GOP lacks the courage, or the ability to stop this pathetic power grab by the un-American, decadent Left - an ideology that has already failed over and over throughout much of the world - then it becomes not just a right, but a responsibility for the American people to take their country back from the political elites that have already bankrupted it. And after that, they now seek to do even more harm by capitalizing on a crisis.

They confessed as much via ex-ballerina Rahm Emanuel, hence, they deserve no respect, or just due, as they are self-admittedly, an unjust crew. It is time to stop this government in its tracks, take it back democratically in the fall, or it then becomes time to bring this government down.

This neophyte, this joke we have in the White House has absolutely no idea of the force and the rage he is about to unleash on him and his entire political party.

He’s not a very good writer but I think he’s saying that if they can’t stop Obama undemocratic agenda politically then it’s “time to bring this government down” through other means. I think I know what he’s going for there.

Pushing the envelope of stupid that bit further:

Christians want orca stoned to death

We’ve talked a bit about the tragedy at SeaWorld, where the orca Tillikum dragged his young keeper underwater, mauling and drowning her. Animals that killed people used to be executed, sometimes quite gruesomely (see the sad tale of Mary the Elephant). But I think most readers of this forum wouldn’t want Tillikum executed. Putting a wild, free-swimming carnivore in a small tank is bound to pose dangers for people who take care of it, and, unlike cases in which free-roaming predators may develop a taste for humans, it would be relatively easy for people to avoid dangerous interactions with Tilly in the future.

But one group feels otherwise. The Rightly Concerned website, an arm of the religious, right-wing American Family Organization, has called for not only the execution of the orca, but death by stoning. Why? Because the Bible says so:

Chalk another death up to animal rights insanity and to the ongoing failure of the West to take counsel on practical matters from the Scripture…

If the counsel of the Judeo-Christian tradition had been followed, Tillikum would have been put out of everyone’s misery back in 1991 and would not have had the opportunity to claim two more human lives.

Says the ancient civil code of Israel, “When an ox gores a man or woman to death, the ox shall be stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten, but the owner shall not be liable.” (Exodus 21:28)

So, your animal kills somebody, your moral responsibility is to put that animal to death. You have no moral culpability in the death, because you didn’t know the animal was going to go postal on somebody.

But, the Scripture soberly warns, if one of your animals kills a second time because you didn’t kill it after it claimed its first human victim, this time you die right along with your animal. To use the example from Exodus, if your ox kills a second time, “the ox shall be stoned, and its owner also shall be put to death.” (Exodus 21:29)

Christian schools angry over ban on teaching creationism

Australian Christian schools will campaign against what they see as the thin end of the wedge - a decision by the South Australian Non-Government Schools Registration Board to effectively ban the teaching of creationism.

Under policies published in December, the board said it required ”teaching of science as an empirical discipline, focusing on inquiry, hypothesis, investigation, experimentation, observation and evidential analysis”.

The board said it ”does not accept as satisfactory a science curriculum in a non-government school which is based on, espouses or reflects the literal interpretation of a religious text in its treatment of either creationism or intelligent design”.

The chief executive of Christian Schools Australia, Stephen O’Doherty, said the board statement was too strident, removing the right to teach ”biblical perspectives” as part of science.

Heh…

re: #52 Dark_Falcon

Once again, The AFA quoted a passage in the Bible. They themselves did not literally say the whale should be stoned, they said it should be killed, which is different. And to be honest, saying the whale should be put down is not unreasonable. Wrong maybe, but not unreasonable.

It urges us to follow the “counsel of the Judeo-Christian tradition” and then quotes the “ancient civil code of Israel” which commands stoning the animal to death. Are they saying we should follow the code or not? It is the whole idea of following scriptural advice on such ‘practical matters’ that is unreasonable here. And killing that whale given the circumstances would be both wrong and unreasonable, IMO.

Yes, but I must nitpick. The Jewish law merely places an upper limit on retaliation. Don’t go beyond tit for tat. You can also be better than that and forgive and pray for your enemies.

While I’m drinking and blogging, I’ve got one other pet peeve. Movie Jesuses ‘turn the other cheek’ by cowering like some battered woman on a Lifetime movie. If you read the words themselves, it’s more of an active thing. Gird your loins, stay on your feet, look your enemy in the eye, THEN turn the other cheek, imho.

He also fancies himself a crime blogger of sorts, and had a particular obsession with Natalee Holloway. Including posts about how her mother’s quest to find out what happened to her was all driven by her own supposed guilt at having raised Natalee to be a slut. I paraphrase, as I don’t think he used the word slut, but that was what it was all about.
He’s another dependable source for wingnut douchery.

Young Earth creationists have claimed that this view has its earliest roots in Judaism, citing, for example, the commentary on Genesis by Ibn Ezra (c. 1089–1164).[4] However, Shai Cherry of Vanderbilt University notes that Jewish theologians have generally rejected such literal interpretations of the written text, and that even Jewish commentators who oppose some aspects of Darwinian thought generally accept scientific evidence that the Earth is much older.

According to the kabbalistic masters, the earth is billions of years old. There are some “young earth creationists” like Michael Medved and Dennis Prager. Also, 30 years ago there was a rabbi, Avigdor Miller, who promoted creationism but he got all of his “scientific” information from the Discovery Institute and crackpots like Emanuel Velikovsky.

Um, how about Thomas Aquinas?

Roman Catholic theologian Thomas Aquinas explained that there are three types of biblical precepts: moral, ceremonial, and judicial. He holds that moral precepts are permanent, having held even before the Law was given, since they are part of the law of nature,[37]; ceremonial precepts, which deal with forms of worshiping God and ritual cleanness; and judicial precepts (such as those in Exodus 21[38]) came into existence only with the Law of Moses,[39] and were only temporary.

That would be no different than Japan’s multi-year ban on U.S. beef because of fears American cattle might be infected with deadly BSE, commonly called mad cow disease, said Sen. Mike Johanns, R-Neb., who was U.S. Agriculture Secretary during the dispute with Japan.

No situation is beyond the reach of the politician who wishes to exploit it.

They won’t be concerned because they’re heard “All we want is a up or down vote” by the GOP for the last few years. To be honest, blocking a vote by filibuster is way over used by both sides.

Not really. For example, the “Gang of Seven” was created to preserve the process. It was apolitical in the sense that it was a defense of institutional precedent and supported by a fews opposition members in recognition of same.

Once broken, both sides will grow to regret this “straight up or down business”. It is a check on power lost - permanently. This is not good, no matter which side of the aisle you choose to affiliate with. Just as surely as you may be happy today, you will be chagrined tomorrow.

My bad. I made it hard to understand. The word ‘nowadays’ doesn’t refer to the scholars, it refers to the word “apply”. That is, The amount of scholars who believe that none of the Mosaic laws apply to people nowadays is slim. In any case, the Catholic Church teaches the same thing today, making any questions of whether it counts as contemporary pretty moot.

Article 7 of the Thirty-Nine Articles of the Church of England declares that Christians are bound by the moral commandments contained in the Five Books of Moses, although not the ceremonial, ritual or civil laws.

Now that there won’t be any more filibusters, ever, on any topic, both parties will find that it becomes impossible to settle an issue. Health care passes, 2010. Health care “reform” un-passed, 2016. Re-passed, 2026. And so on. And it’ll be the same way with respect to any contentious issue.

The filibuster was a good institution. It meant we had to arrive at some sort of accomodation with each other. The momentary majority didn’t have untramelled scope to enact law. When Bush had the Senate, the Democrats understood this. Up until now, both parties have always understood this.

A Kansas farm wife called the local phone company to report her telephone failed to ring when her friends called - and that on the few occasions, when it did ring, her dog always moaned right before the phone rang.

The telephone repairman proceeded to the scene, curious to see this psychic dog or senile lady. He climbed a telephone pole, hooked in his test set, and dialed the subscriber’s house.

The phone didn’t ring right away, but then the dog moaned and the telephone began to ring.

Climbing down from the pole, the telephone repairman found:

1 . The dog was tied to the telephone system’s ground wire with a steel chain and collar.

2. The wire connection to the ground rod was loose.

3. The dog was receiving 90 volts of signaling current when the number was called.

4.. After a couple of jolts, the dog would start moaning and then urinate.

5. The wet ground would complete the circuit, thus causing the phone to ring.

Which demonstrates that apparently some problems CAN be fixed by pissing and moaning.

The counter argument is that some of these acts do create a bond between the general population and the animal kingdom. Of course that’s still possible without the tricks and the acts.

And apparently there are some Toyota owners claiming that they got their cars fixed per the recall only to find that the problem wasn’t fixed.

Edmunds did a study and found that there are issues with brakes across more than just Toyota (and Lexus) - but the rates for Toyota are much higher. It does make sense to make an industry wide fix on brake issues.

Darwin Foes Add Warming to Targets

Another wedge document? Here’s the text of the current bill in Kentucky:

AN ACT relating to science education and intellectual freedom.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSECTION 1. A NEW SECTION OF KRS CHAPTER 158 IS CREATED TO READ AS FOLLOWS:

(1) Teachers, principals, and other school administrators are encouraged to create and foster an environment within public elementary and secondary schools that promotes critical thinking skills, logical analysis, and open and objective discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of scientific theories being studied.

(2) After a teacher has taught the content related to scientific theories contained in textbooks and instructional materials included on the approved lists required under KRS 156.433 and 156.435, a teacher may use, as permitted by the local school board, other instructional materials to help students understand, analyze, critique, and review scientific theories in an objective manner, including but not limited to the study of evolution, the origins of life, global warming, and human cloning.

(3) This section shall not be construed to promote any religious doctrine, promote discrimination for or against a particular set of religious beliefs, or promote discrimination for or against religion or nonreligion.

(4) This section may be cited as the Kentucky Science Education and Intellectual Freedom Act.

re: #23 iceweasel

I guess they’re support for Stephen Jay Gould’s theories then. /

Evolution as Theory and Fact

Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world’s data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts do not go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein’s theory of gravitation replaced Newton’s, but apples did not suspend themselves in mid-air, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from apelike ancestors whether they did so by Darwin’s proposed mechanism or by some other, yet to be discovered.

Moreover, “fact” does not mean “absolute certainty.” The final proofs of logic and mathematics flow deductively from stated premises and achieve certainty only because they are not about the empirical world. Evolutionists make no claim for perpetual truth, though creationists often do (and then attack us for a style of argument that they themselves favor). In science, “fact” can only mean “confirmed to such a degree that it would be perverse to withhold provisional assent.” I suppose that apples might start to rise tomorrow, but the possibility does not merit equal time in physics classrooms.

To me, that sounds like old-timey, common-sense conservative-type stuff. I guess part of my problem is that the word “conservative” was at some point successfully hijacked by people who subscribe to an ideology that is in fact quite fanatically radical.

Of course Christianity has borrowed the moral laws from the Hebrew scriptures, as much as these same moral laws are use by most western nations.

Other than that, we are now using Old Testament laws to validate killing whales or stoning our woman folk.

You know that is the third death by that whale?

Yes, I know of two others, the first was with other whales and the second one should have earned the poor guy the Darwin award:

The first occurred in 1991 at the now-defunct Sealand of the Pacific park in Canada. Tilikum and two female whales drowned a 20-year-old marine biology student and part-time animal trainer in front of other staff members, according to the New York Daily News.

Then in 1999, Tilikum — who had been transferred to SeaWorld following the closure of Sealand of the Pacific — was found one morning with a 27-year-old homeless man on his back, also drowned, CBS Orlando 4 reported. The man had apparently remained hidden in the park until closing and then climbed into the tank or sneaked in after hours.

The polling on healthcare reform has been really bad. It’s just too easy to skew polls on complicated issues depending on how the questions are asked. However, it’s fairly popular and there isn’t going to be widespread outcry once is passes. Most of the public isn’t going to care about the reconciliation process either.

The way it’s been sold, the idea is popular. The way it will play out, the reality will be hugely unpopular.

Interesting new look at how culture may influence evolution:

Human Culture, an Evolutionary Force

Because of this buffering action, culture was thought to have blunted the rate of human evolution, or even brought it to a halt, in the distant past. Many biologists are now seeing the role of culture in a quite different light.

Although it does shield people from other forces, culture itself seems to be a powerful force of natural selection. People adapt genetically to sustained cultural changes, like new diets. And this interaction works more quickly than other selective forces, “leading some practitioners to argue that gene-culture co-evolution could be the dominant mode of human evolution,” Kevin N. Laland and colleagues wrote in the February issue of Nature Reviews Genetics.

was it just me, or did a republican senator just get elected in Mass?

must be just me.

Dems ran on HCR that included provisions even more “radical” than the current bill. They won a national election with this in their platform.

Now they should back off because of some polls and a special election? Do you really think similarly situated Republicans would be passively backing down in such an environment?

As for the midterms, I’m sure you’re aware that historically the president’s party loses seats, especially when it’s picked up a huge number of seats in the previous two elections. Even the Great Gingrich Revolution was followed by two very weak republican showings in subsequent congressional elections.

Really moved the story along. I’m still wondering how they’re going to explain everything before the end of the series. It’ll be intereseting to see what they leave unexplained. I suspect they’re going to end with Jack being appointed the new Jacob and Sawyer becoming the new Man in Black. Possibly leave it open for a sequel with new castaways. I really hope they don’t do that.

Police Probe Man’s Anti-Semitic Posts

Just months after Ontario decided not to charge a Toronto man with hate crimes, partly because he was undergoing rehabilitation, he is again being investigated over his online writings on a website called Filthy Jewish Terrorists.
Police are probing Salman Hossain’s recent postings on the Arizona-based Internet site on which he writes harshly about Jews, Christians and moderate Canadian Muslims, whom he calls “traitors.”
He refers to Jews as “diseased and filthy,” “the scum of the earth,” “psychotic” and “mass murderers” and writes that “a genocide should be perpetrated against the Jewish populations of North America and Europe.”

Do you finally see what the side-flashes are all about? What we are seeing in the new time line, with is 6 year earlier (2004), now the characters are getting what they are being promised by certain people in 2010 on the Island.

Sayid want to see Nadia alive, he get that in the new time line, Jack wants to be good enough in a fatherly way, he is, Claire wants Aaron, she gets Aaron and so on…

Interestingly, the time passes on the Island at a different rate, so whatever drama they played out over years on the island happens without taking equivalent time on the side-o-verse.

Time is different on the Island, like those who say each day of the six days of creation could have been a billion years in our perspective, and what was a day before the division of light and dark?

Dutch anti-Islam leader is major winner in polls

Dutch anti-Islamist leader Geert Wilders scored major gains in local authority polls Thursday, making him a serious challenger for power in a June national election, preliminary results showed.

In the first test of public opinion since the collapse of Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende’s coalition government last month, Wilders’s Freedom Party (PVV) led in the city of Almere and was second in The Hague.

The results came on top of an opinion poll showing that the PVV, which campaigns against Muslim immigration as its main platform, would win the most seats — 27 in the 150-member Dutch parliament — in the June 9 election.

Oh my. If the PVV really does win the most seats, and the left parties refuse to form any coalition with the PVV (naturally enough) or the major center parties… then it will be up to the center right parties to form a coalition with the PVV… and that would mean the Dutch would take a serious lunge to the right.

It’s not trivial if you consider the cumulative environmental impact if they allowed every land owner the right to develop alongside the protected California Coastline. Consider the comment from Sara Christie, the Coastal Commission’s legislative director, “If we start letting the law slide in individual cases, cumulatively the result of that will be a statewide loss of public access and coastal resources…”

If they were to allow the McNamees’s a variance then it would open up the coast to further infringement into the coastal zone and their beach is also located within Corona Del Mar State Beach. Others would then seek to build improvements in the zone and it could include fencing or many other improvement that do not fit the requirements of the coastal environment.

What you’re missing is that the current government fell apart because the left leaning elements of the coalition government just couldn’t get along with the right-leaning parties, and said they would not form another coalition government with them.

So, the government dissolves, and new elections are held.

Now, if in the new elections the PVV really are the largest selection of seats, that means either (1) the old left-right coalition that just failed has to get back together again (which they claim won’t happen), or (2) the right-leaning parties will need the PVV for a coalition government.

I foresee a coalition between PPV and the center-right parties. But because the center-right parties will leave the coalition if some of the PPV’s more, er, slightly insane policies go into effect, the worst may still be avoided.

It’s also bullshit to claim hardship. It’s easy enough for them to take down what they asked them to take down. Those are the rules. Instead of spending 250,000 dollars in legal fees they could have spent that money for their own enjoyment or towards a charity. It’s not about ambiance it’s about the ecology, erosion, and the vegetation. It’s also about setting a poor precedent. Quite plausible, he’s already been Gov. for 10 years; does he really want 4 more?

But being Bush’s successor as Gov. is one of those things the base loves, but probably turns off a lot of indies and moderates.

And then there’s the stuff about secession and creationism and governing farther to the right than even W, none of which helps in a general election.

Agreed. But trust me, this election cycle is all about 2012 for Good Hair. Don’t ever doubt his team and his ability on the stump. He is really, really good.

They could easily bring down a folding table from their multi-million dollar home.

no basketball backboards allowed!…that sort of thing…it’s about the rule, not erosion…when someone does not conform, then it’s all about the planet, or save the children or whatever…it’s okay if people want to live like that, I think it’s absurd…no backyard shower is going to erode the shoreline

Yes they will almost certainly need to put together a coalition. Difficult to say if anyone will play along with them. The is a wave of angry sentiment among the voters, they don’t like being denied, anything could happen.

I believe that is the one. Not the article I read, but the from the same incident.

The article I read had no video, was a bit longer, and written by the photog. It was really quite funny, the way the photog described the apparent disgust and frustration of the seal at his inability to take the lesson, and how it eventually tried to feed bits of penguin to his camera out of pity.

Exactly. I feel bad for Bristol. I don’t agree with her abstinence work but I do at least believe that she is saying what she believes and grabbing a bunch of opportunities now mostly for money for her son.
Bristol isn’t a child now, but she is very young, and I think she’s being manipulated. Also she’s certainly being gleefully exploited, and there are many people who just can’t get enough of the Bristol/Levi/Palin family reality show trainwreck.
And of course there are the younger kids to consider as well.

It makes me cringe a bit when Bristol throws the term “horrible mistake” around when she talks about her own teen pregnancy. That kid will probably get interested in the family fame and track down those videos in the future.

Oh, and good evening everyone!

They lost.

Anyway, you want something to be against look read about Orange officials sue couple who removed their lawn:

City codes require that live landscaping cover 40% of the yard. Quan and Angelina Ha say their water use has dropped 80% since they replaced the grass with wood chips and drought-tolerant plants.

Some Southern California cities fine residents for watering their lawns too much during droughts.

But in Orange, officials are locked in a legal battle with a couple accused of violating city ordinances for removing their lawn in an attempt to save water.

Yeah, Orange, CA. Let’s see the mayor is Carolyn V. Cavecche (R) who was endorsed in the Christian Voter Guide.

People without a life, and/or a grudge against a neighbor.

Posted here before about my own problems with a co-op board in the past. It was a place where the board was all run by old people who had been there before it went co-op and really disliked the young people moving in.
In my case, a great deal of the board harassment came about because my partner and I were not married. Seems crazy, but there it is.

If one of us left the house (before the other got home) for a ten minute run to the supermarket and left any light on we’d get an ‘anonymous’ warning about electricity usage. (Electric was in our maintenance fees).

I liked ABQ when I visited a little dry tho.

You have the Atomic Museum (although I think it changed it’s name) and the tramway. Very cool. MUCH better than Santa Fe IMHO.

Santa Fe is too pretentious…too many outsiders from all over…it’s a very cool town, really one of a kind but the wealthy/hip/liberal attitude is too much…down in ABQ is where the rubber hits the road…and our Plaza is world renown…Santa Fe’s pales in comparison

i hear they only do it like twice a year.sounds fascinating.

no…it’s a hard one, like you say…but it’s fascinating to drive past there….the entire White Sands area is a basin, well below the surrounding land…you can easily look straight across the range and not see White Sands itself…of course it’s a Monument and you can drive down to it and check out all the missile stuff etc….but the geography is also pretty unique…I-25 passes within a few miles of Trinity but you’d never know it….when I drive thru that area I always wonder about the bombs, what it looked like to see them go off

I actually knew, years ago, a woman whose abusive husband had shot their dog (German shepherd) first, then later tried to kill their son by shaking him.

He used to call her from prison to tell her she was a bad Christian and had broken her vows by divorcing him. Listening to her tell him off was quite satisfying, if only because it was all she could do.

Bring a photographer a penguin, and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a photographer to catch penguins, and he may go away and leave you alone.

Paladin reruns every week down here…some all day cowboy channel…I love it

Gary Cooper! I have to admit two of my favorites were Henry Fonda or Clint Eastwood as cowboys. Cooper could be hilarious sometimes. Too bad he died so young.

Dude! You have no idea. If you think Costner makes an excellent bad guy in “Mr. Brooks”, then you obviously haven’t seen this.

Costner also made a decent villain in 3000 Miles to Graceland. The movie was somewhat campy, but still fun.

Eastwood trumps them all…except probably John Wayne….but I like all the old westerns…I look at the guns and the landscapes, the authenticity of the sets etc…I don’t give a hoot about plot or dialog, which can be extremely weak…there are tons of exceptions tho

Rooster Cogburn talking to that old Hepburn character was a riot at times

First movie I ever saw in a movie theater was Stagecoach. I know it’s a 1939 movie but my dad had to go see back in the 60s.

I finally watched Mr. Brooks with Kevin Costner and Demi Moore.

Costner makes an excellent bad guy.

I think that’s an excellent and under-rated movie.

There is also an awesome LOLcats I can’t find now, captioned: Teh Hunger has returned to Mr Bigglesworths brain….IT NEVRE LEFT.

This one’s great. It’s Jimmy Stewart as a Republican and Henry Fonda as a Democrat in Cheyenne Social Club. Great movie. This was actually how they were politically in real life but they were the best of friends and room mates in the early years. Broke Stewart’s heart when Fonda died.

Video…

This death threat thing is completely unacceptable.
I’m not going to stick my nose into other people’s business, but IMO ignoring ongoing death threats does not strike me as a viable strategy.
Enough said.
Good night.

Whether it be a massive nuclear exchange, a gigantic asteroid, or some kind of alien invasion; when the world collapses around our ears, we will be picking through the post-apocalyptic rubble to find weird video clips to torment each other with.

It’s a good thing.

Christians want orca stoned to death

The headline isn’t borne out by the story; I don’t see where the group makes any such demand.

Exaggeration and distortion like this make it all too easy to reject anything and everything else the story may have to say.

Bible ignored, trainer dies. They are not looking to have the whale stoned, but the overarching theme is that the whale should have been killed already and that SeaWorld should be culpable for not killing the whale now…

re: #530 Dark_Falcon

Yes. His nic is Ben_Zechariah. Last year his daughter made an appearance here on LGF and started trolling (he had been banned already, but she had not). Austin_blue showed up and I joking but very stupidly said that “the troll” would make a good target for his HK-91 rifle. I meant it only in the sense of online personas but but Ben and his daughter took it as a death threat. Since then he has periodically threatened to kill me, most recently a few days ago.

Dark Falcon,

Ben_Zechariah is a stalker who has no conscience, and no sense of boundaries. He participates in the outing and harassment of innocents at the Deuce, and does dirty work for Rodan on a regular basis. He absolutely SHOULD be taken seriously.

I urge you to Ignore Iceweasels’ advice.
Submit a full report to law enforcement officials right away, as I have done.

Like Rodan, BZ has to understand that stalking and threats are a misdemeanor at least, and quite probably a felony… especially if death threats are involved.

The only way to make the psychotic bastards over on that site cease and desist, is to MAKE them stop.

re: #620 irish rose

Hello Irish—I rarely catch you here. I just got up to read the overnights, and want to piggyback on your stalker comment. Some LGFer’s who are concerned about stalkers of various sorts are a little too laid back. Most of us have posted enough personal details to make identification fairly easy. Just posting our birthdays removes a very large part of our “Security Through Obscurity”. A determined stalker with any brains can cross-correlate a few dozen statements and get to within public-record reach of most identities. Our lizard ethic discouraging friendly ID questions should be reinforced. I’m not pushing paranoia, but our free expression is potentially threatened. (Just noted this thread is about dead. I’m posting now for later forwarding.)

I advised ignoring the bastards on this blog, Rose. They love being mentioned. But as we know, you love to mention them here—
when you’re not approving their comments on your own recent blog post complaining about LGF—so long as they slam how CJ is running LGF, and say nasty things about me and Jimmah.
Hypocrite.

624 Why I Never!  Thu, Mar 4, 2010 8:31:48am

BTW, Rose, have you relinked LGF yet? Or deleted your post slamming how CJ is running it? (and of course the comments on it from stalkers that you chose to post).

I know you deleted your earlier post hatin’ on LGF and announcing you were never commenting here again. I expect you to delete that recent one as well.

There is no exaggeration or distortion. They are telling us to follow scripture, then (stupidly, as has been pointed out by many) quoting scripture that recommends stoning to death of animals who have hurt humans. If they want us to merely kill the animal but not stone it, they haven’t given any rationale for that. All they have told us is that they want scripture to be followed. They deserve that headline fully.

Please, do tell me now what from that story that Coyne has allegedly facilitated the ‘all too easy’ rejection of?
