My friend, you have seen this incident based on sworn testimony. Can you prove that it didn’t happen? Perhaps on your way home, you will pass someone in the dark, and you will never know it, for they will be from outer space. Many scientists believe that another world is watching us this moment. We once laughed at the horseless carriage, the aeroplane, the telephone, the electric light, vitamins, radio, and even television! And now some of us laugh at outer space. God help us... in the future.

What Hamas Wants

A thought experiment: Imagine that Hamas announces it will immediately cease and desist from firing missiles into Israel, that there will be no more such attacks in the future, and that it will release Gilad Shalit, the Israel soldier kidnapped two and a half years ago and held incommunicado ever since — with not even the Red Cross allowed to see him. What would happen then?

Moderate Israelis would pressure their government to make a reciprocal gesture: to stop the air attacks on Hamas’s command and control centers, release Palestinian terrorists from Israeli jails and get serious peace talks underway.

But anyone who knows anything about Hamas also knows that such a scenario is implausible. Hamas was created to fight and win holy wars — not to seek peace and sing kumbaya with infidels. Hamas wants a Palestinian state in place of Israel — not next door to Israel. And for Hamas, preventing Palestinian carnage is not a priority. That’s not a slander, it’s a fact. As Hamas parliamentarian Fathi Hamad eloquently phrased it: “We desire death as you desire life.”

In 2005, Israelis undertook a real-life experiment: They said: “The Palestinians have a grievance: our occupation of Gaza and the West Bank — even though we administer those territories as the consequence of a war launched to annihilate us. But if our presence provokes violence, let’s see what results from our absence.” That summer, Israel pulled every soldier and settler out of Gaza. Every house of worship and cemetery was removed. But greenhouses were left behind.

Palestinians might have responded by using those greenhouses to grow flowers for export. They might have built factories, schools, hospitals, and hotels along their Mediterranean beaches. Had that been their choice, moderate Israelis surely would have made further concessions — for example, uprooting Israelis from the West Bank as well, and offering to negotiate a division of Jerusalem.

Instead, of course, Palestinians smashed the greenhouses and put Hamas in charge. Since then, Hamas has done nothing to spark economic development. Nevertheless, it has bemoaned the increasing destitution of unoccupied Gaza — now blaming it on Israel’s “siege” — and demanding aid, not least from Israel, which has given it (as has the U.S.), even as the rockets have fallen

We should understand by now that when Hamas officials vow to fight “occupation,” they are referring to any and all territory on which Israelis now exercise self-determination. Osama Hamdan, Hamas’s representative in Lebanon, said: “Our goal is to liberate all of Palestine, from the [Jordan] river to the [Mediterranean] sea…” Similarly Hamas official Mahmoud Zahar has said: ”We do not recognize the Israeli enemy, nor his right to be our neighbor, nor to stay, nor his ownership of any inch of land.”

/pretty much sums up the truth nicely

It's you who wanna enforce an anti-evolution groupthink on this blog, by bitching, whining and moaning every time an EVO thread is posted, in an attempt to dissuade Charles from doing so.

Hint: It ain't a gonna work. But if you push it to the point of offensiveness, you very well may find yourself on the outside looking in.

As much as I would dearly love to see our "Beloved" Governor no longer in office, best if she stay in the Left Washington and just screw that up. She would have way too much "pull" to massively fuck up the whole country if she were CommSec.

Was talking with an old army buddy this weekend. Up here you need a permit to own rifles and such. With the same permit you buy ammunition. Buddy said he went to a police officer in charge of such things to ask a question. According to the firearm restriction act, you aren't allowed to store excessive amounts of ammunition. He tried to get a clarification on what excessive meant. :)

What he said was that he didn't appreciate Charles giving the public school religious dogma indoctrination threat to American kids any attention. Apparently, he would prefer that it grow and flower in the shadows, until it's strong enough to emerge into the light and execute its theocratic takeover dreams.

I prefer the astringent sunlight of public attention to be focused on such rancid mildewed basement mold. It's a great disinfectant.

It's natural that people on this blog, that have a similar political point of view, would agree on many topics. Is that groupthink too?

But this is a blog of individuals- each with their own opinion(s) on various topics. That many of us have accepted evolution because of the evidence doesn't mean we're engaged in "groupthink". It means we're engaged in thinking, period.

I have no problem voting Dem but the good ones only seem to show up at the local level. I think Zell Miller is the only one I've voted for at higher than county level for years.

Well, I'm a social libertarian (all citizens should enjoy all rights and freedoms that do not infringe on the rights and freedoms of others, and where conflicts between competing freedoms inevitably arise, they sould be resolved by equal and proportional compromise), a fiscal conservative (balance every budget), and a foreign policy constitutional-democracy-spreader (by diplomacy where possible; by force where feasible and necessary). Some random thoughts:

1. Watched Hannity and Colmes earlier this evening, and had the pleasure of watching Alan Colmes lecturing Thomas Sowell on economics. That's akin to watching Shawn Kemp lecturing a nun on celebacy.

2. Okay Minnesota, we gave you Jesse Ventura. But Al Franken?!? I'm calling for mandatory drug testing of all registered voters in Minnesota.

3. Why is Little O picking so many former Clinton hacks to be in his cabinet? Simple: he's in over his head and doesn't have a fucking clue about what he should be doing. So much for "change". Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

4. Leon Panetta to be the head of the C.I.A.? Are you fucking crazy? Because he has good managerial and administrative skills?!? Hey, good managerial and administrative skills are fine if you want to be the night manager of the local WalMart, but not the head of the C.I. freaking A.!

But sometimes when one has a different opinion and posts, they are attacked. There is a bit of an anti-Christian bent by some posters. I remember one poster using a really nasty term for Jesus Christ and you mentioning fundamentalist Christians. Would you consider this man a fundamentalist Christian.

[Link: www.templetonprize.org...]

If he came on this blog with an argument under the tag ChristianScientist, would you vilify him?

When you place the significance of your voting privilege on the solitary impact of your own single vote, you've already, sadly, lost the whole concept. I don't vote based on a false presumption that my single vote is going to create upheavals in the status quo, but because it is our right that contains within it a duty to stand up for our principles and the freedoms for which so many have fought and died. Good Early Morning, Lizard Nation-it's 41F and drizzlin here in San Antone.

For Cowboys Fans....

* The Hiway Patrol Officers are cracking down on speeders heading into Dallas.
For the first offense, they give you two Dallas Cowboys tickets.
If you get stopped a second time, they make you use them.

Q. What do you call 47 millionaires around a TV watching the Super Bowl?
A. The Dallas Cowboys.

Q. What do the Dallas Cowboys and Billy Graham have in common?
A. They both can make 75,000 people stand up and yell, "Jesus Christ!"

Q. How do you keep a Dallas Cowboy out of your yard?
A. Put up a goal post.

Q. What's the difference between the Dallas Cowboys and a dollar bill?
A. You can still get four quarters out of a dollar bill.

Q. What do the Cowboys and possums have in common?
A. Both play dead at home and get killed on the road.

I live in a hopelessly blue state as well, but I made it a point to walk the two miles to my polling station and back (4 miles rountrip)- partly so I wouldn't be tempted to listen to the MSM spinmeisters yammering away on the radio. Whenever I got winded, I thought of the voters in Iraq proudly showing off their purple fingers...or the less fortunate voters in Zimbabwe who are presently reaping the rewards of Mugabe's thugs threatening and assassinating opposition party members (i.e. cholera, sanctions and Weimar-like hyperinflation).

Yeah...McCain was #3 or #4 on my GOP depth chart, but I had a choice in the matter and chose not to stay home like a petulant little brat.

Correct. There is a guy here at work that complains all the time about politicians, I asked him once who he voted for, he, of course, hadn't. Now he is ignored, not just by me, but by most of my fellow employees.

172 Pietr  Tue, Jan 6, 2009 1:38:08am

Getting quiet....Hmmm...

Priceless

Jack wakes up with a huge hangover after attending his company's
Christmas Party. He didn't even remember how he got home from the party...

As bad as he was feeling, he wondered if he did something wrong. Jack
had to force himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he saw is a
couple of aspirins next to a glass of water on the side table. And, next
to them, a single red rose!

Jack sits up and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and
pressed. He looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order,
spotlessly clean. So is the rest of the house. He takes the aspirins,
cringes when he sees a huge black eye staring back at him in the
bathroom mirror.

Then he notices a note hanging on the corner of the mirror written in
red with little hearts on it and a kiss mark from his wife in lipstick:

'Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to get groceries to make
you your favorite dinner tonight. I love you, darling! Love, Jillian. '

He stumbles to the kitchen and sure enough, there is hot breakfast,
steaming hot coffee and the morning newspaper. His son is also at the
table, eating.

Jack asks,' Son... what happened last night?'

'Well, you came home after 3 A.M., drunk out of your mind. You fell
over the coffee table and broke it, and then you puked in the hallway,
and got that black eye when you ran into the door.'

Confused, he asked his son, 'So, why is everything in such perfect order
and so clean? I have a rose, and breakfast is on the table waiting for me?'

His son replies, 'Oh THAT!...
Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take your pants off,
you screamed, 'Leave me alone bitch, I'm married!''

Broken Coffee Table $239.99
Hot Breakfast $4.20
Two Aspirins $.38
Saying the right thing, at the right time......PRICELESS

Excellent! BTW, which part of good ole San Antone do you live in? My family has got a lot of history with that town. My dad did two tours at Lackland (50's and 60's), my brother was born at Wilfred Hall Hospital, and I graduated from Holmes High in '74. I even remember the World's Fair in '68. I remember being able to go outside and watch the daily progress as they built the Tower of the Americas. Haven't been there in a while, though. Used to live off N.E. Loop 410.

Sorry to hear that. And yeah, apparently the teacher doesn't have any lecture notes or powerpoints or anything, just teaches straight from his brain. That should be really interesting.

Anyways, I'm going to watch some TV and pass out. Gotta wake up at 9:45 for an 11am class, and UCLA's only 10 minutes away from my house. Why "so early"? They gave me the furthest parking garage from my classes possible, so it's a 20 minute walk each way to and from my parking garage to classes.

re: #242 Sharmuta

Not just grandparents. Aunts, uncles, cousins, too. The cousins part is bad because they were all babies or toddlers. But I'm lucky in that both my parents came from huge families and a lot of them survived - either the concentration camps or because both sets of grandparents started sending their kids to live with family in the U.S. in the late 1930s. Some families got wiped out completely.

The worst part of it - to be perfectly honest - was living with a mother who is an Auschwitz survivor. Then again - to be brutally honest - I'm not so sure my mother wasn't born nuts. ;-)

A sense of humor is critical, either way, and I inherited my father's DNA. :-)

It's especially rewarding to see because the Lakers Fans most spolied, know-nothing, over-indulged fans in all of basketball tend to bitch and moan non-stop about what a boring team the Spurs are. Yet between the two, who has the more recent NBA title....?

I don't know... I like exciting basketball... the Magic years with Worthy, Kareen, Cooper et al were exciting to watch... and they were a dominant team... much like the Jordan years with the Bulls.
And to call the Spurs boring with the crafty Frenchman and flashy Argentinian... means you dont understand the game.

re: #257 shanec99

You really don't know who you're dealing with, do you?

PHILLY GIRL

Three men were sitting together bragging about how they had given their
new wives duties.

The first man had married a woman from Texas, and told her that she was
going to do dishes and house cleaning.

It took a couple days, but on the third day he came home to a clean
house and dishes washed and put away.

The second man had married a woman from Nebraska.

He had given his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning,
dishes, and the cooking.

The first day he didn't see any results, but the next day he saw it was
better.

By the third day, he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done, and
there was a huge dinner on the table.

The third man had married a girl from Philadelphia.

He told her that her duties were to keep the house clean, dishes washed,
laundry washed and hot meals on the table for every meal.

He said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't
see anything, but by the third day some of the swelling had gone down
and he could see a little out of his left eye, enough to fix himself a
sandwich and load the dishwasher.

A Moslem has died and has arrived in Heaven. He is very excited as, all his life he has longed to meet the Prophet Mohammed.

Having arrived at the Gates of Heaven, he meets a man with a beard.

'Are you Mohammed?' he asks

'No, my son. I am Peter. Mohammed is higher up'.

And he points him to a ladder that rises into the clouds.

Delighted that Mohammed should be higher than Peter, he climbed the ladder in great strides.

He meets another bearded man.

Full of hope, he asks again, 'Are you Mohammed?'

'No, I am Jesus. Mohammed is higher up still'. Mohammed higher than Jesus! The poor man can hardly contain his delight and climbs and climbs, ever higher.

Once again, he meets a man with a beard and repeats his question:

'Are you Mohammed?'

'No, I am Moses. Mohammed is higher still.' Exhausted but with heart full of joy, he continues to climb the ladder and, yet again, he meets a man with a beard.

'Are you Mohammed?' he gasps, as he is by now totally out of breath from all his climbing.

'No, my son. I am God. But you look exhausted. Would you like a

coffee?'

'Yes please, my Lord'

God looks behind him, claps his hands and calls out:

'Mohammed, two coffees please.'

From the link:

The Obama plan's tax cuts for individuals and couples would be a bit different from the rebate checks sent out last year by the Bush administration and Congress in a bid to boost the slowing economy. The relief this time around would be awarded by withholding less from worker paychecks. That provision would cost about $140-150 billion over two years.

Damn, that language pisses me off! Cost? Cost?! It's not costing a damn thing for people to keep their own frickin' money! How about the msm and Washington get something straight- allowing Americans to keep their own money is not an expense.

re: #268 Rune

Over here, there's been a call for companies and universities to divest themselves of any stock in their 401(k) plans of companies that provide military equipment to the IDF or IAF...

This would include

General Electric [NYSE: GE]
Oshkosh Heavy-Duty Trucks [NYSE: OSK]
Boeing Aircraft [NYSE: BA]
Caterpillar- a particular favorite of the moonbats ever since Rachel Corrie decided to play Chicken with one of their products and came in 2nd best [NYSE: CAT]
General Dynamics [NYSE: GD]
Raytheon Corporation [NYSE: RTN]
Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT]
Bell-Textron [NYSE: TXT]

I like to think of it as the insipid moonbats thoughtfully providing me with a buy list, since these revelations that they provide equipment and armamanets to Israel may affect my decision-making- just not in the way that they intended.

There's also Israeli-based companies that are publicly traded, such as:

Blue Square [NYSE: BSI]
Cellcom Israel [NYSE: CEL]
ISRAMCO Inc [NASDAQ: ISRL]
Zion Oil & Gas [AMEX: ZN]

Not to mention financial insturments like Bonds issued by the State of Israel.

Or you could go a little more grassroots and arrange something like a nice, hot pizza for some of the frontline IDF soldiers.

re: #317 Fenway_Nation

Probably would not be a good idea for them to do that given the current share prices of some of those companies. If they do, the market better have a darn good year to make up for all the capital losses those funds, universities etc. are going to take. I'm no market genius but I don't think 2009 will be much better than 2008. We haven't even begun to feel the effects of the "printing spree" that Bernake and Paulson went on with the dollar. Obama is only going to print more money and drive us further into debt so I don't see a lot of upside in spite of what the business talking heads want us to believe. If history is any guide, 1929 was terrible, 1930 was pretty bad to. This time around it's a lot worse and I don't think we have begun to experience the pain that is coming. For all our sakes, I hope I am wrong but the only light at the end of the tunnel I see right now is an oncoming inflation train.

The houri have variously been described as being "chaste females", "restraining their glances", "modest gaze", "wide and beautiful/lovely eyes", "like pearls", "virgins", "with large, round breasts which are not inclined to hang", "companions of equal age", "non-menstruating/urinating/defecating and childfree", "60 cubits [27.5 meters] tall", "7 cubits [3.2 meters] in width", "transparent to the marrow of their bones", "eternally young", "hairless except the eye brows and the head", "pure", "beautiful", "white","splendid" and much more besides.

Transparent sounds.... kinky.

Does anyone doubt that the majority of the humanitarian aid entering Gaza is being diverted by Hamas? Until Israel stops playing this public relations sucker game, it will actually be providing support and sustenance to the terrorists.

Does anyone doubt that Egypt is still allowing smuggling of weapons into Gaza via the tunnels, and that there are still some tunnels operating? Until Israel takes and holds the southern perimeter of Gaza there will be no way to prevent Hamas from rearming from the south. Cutting off the northward flow of missiles from the south by cutting Gaza in the middle will merely shift the launching to the south, and with the availability of longer ranged missiles the end result will be less than satisfactory.

Pending correction of these fundamental tactical weaknesses, the realistic objectives of the mission must remain compromised.

They are not slutty as such, but someone’s very very weird idea of a sexual fantasy. In addition to being described as "chaste females", with "modest gaze", "pure", "virgins", "untouched / with hymen unbroken by sexual intercourse" and all that they are described as "voluptuous/full-breasted", "with large, round breasts which are not inclined to hang", with "appetising vaginas" and the really weird: "non-menstruating/urinating/defecating and childfree", "hairless", "white", "transparent to the marrow of their bones", "27.5 metres tall", "3.2 metres in width" and "revirginating".

= Gigantic big hairless transparent women with big tits and a new hymen every morning. And very shy.

re: #326 BlueCanuck

They are virgins because they are magically able to revirginize themselves every morning. An unbroken hymen apparently being considered very important.

Why would that surprise you? Even in a modern world where information is readily available literacy in many Arab nations is less than 60%. 1400 years ago, the literacy rate would have been much lower than today, so the possibility that Mohammed was illiterate was high.

It is only the industrial revolution's need for oil that has provided the Arabian peninsula the capital for development that is helping to drag the majority of Arabs reluctantly out of backwardness, tribalism and ignorance. It is a difficult and tedious process that is hampered by deep suspicions and ignorance.

Banks are tightening lending standards:

Banks’ ‘Catatonic Fear’ Means Consumers Don’t Get TARP Relief

Jan. 5 (Bloomberg) -- As the new owner of $172.5 billion of preferred shares and warrants in 208 U.S. financial institutions, the Treasury Department hasn’t succeeded in thawing frozen credit markets, leaving taxpayers propping up an industry that won’t lend to them.

But the reason for the lack of lending is that banks are tightening their standards.

In its most recent quarterly Senior Loan Officer Opinion Survey in October, the Fed reported that about 85 percent of U.S. banks said they had tightened standards on commercial and industrial loans to companies with more than $50 million in annual sales, up from 60 percent in July. Ninety-five percent said they increased the cost of those loans. About 70 percent said they made it more difficult to obtain prime mortgages, and almost 65 percent said they did the same for consumer loans.

I actually think that is a good thing long term. Otherwise, we would have a splurge of more spending, based on bad loans made to shaky borrowers. But then when some of those loans would go bad, we would be back in the soup, this time with no more bullets in the gun to deal with it.

But some people think the banks should be handing out money like welfare checks:

“We own them now, and we should use that to make sure they stop ripping us off,” said Gail Hillebrand, head of the financial-services campaign at Consumers Union, an advocacy group based in Yonkers, New York. “We shouldn’t allow banks to use the money to support things that hurt consumers and taxpayers. What we’re looking for is responsible behavior, not social benefits.”

Bank profits or returns on the government investments are secondary concerns, Hillebrand said.

However, that view is not accepted by all:

That view is opposed by free-market advocates such as Gary Becker, a professor of economics and sociology at the University of Chicago and a Nobel Prize winner, who says the primary aim of the government bailout should be a hasty withdrawal from investments that shouldn’t have been made in the first place.

“If you believe in a private-enterprise system, you use competition to control the banks, not a stakeholding,” Becker said. “It would be a grave mistake to use these private institutions for social goals.”

Silver lining thing. Officials are finally starting to admit (at least in our area) that it has very little to do with property value and assessments. They figure out how much money they need and calculate the assessment that way.

The system is backward. Governments decide how much of your money they would like to have, then pass their tax levy requests and give them to the assessor. The assessor then has to generate that money by backing into the tax rates and taxable value needed to generate that money.

To do it right (I know this would never happen though) you should have the process reversed, the assessor develops the amount of revenue that can be generated on a supportable valuation and tax level, and then the governements are told this is what you have to live on.

The way the system works now, it's like shopping with somebody else's credit card.

G'day from Down Under to {everyone}

A wonderful Prime Minister to be honoured by President Bush

FORMER prime minister John Howard will receive the US Presidential Medal of Freedom at a White House ceremony next week.

The award is said to be the highest civilian honour bestowed by a United States president.

Mr Howard is being honoured for his role in fighting terrorism and for standing by the US as an ally during his 11 years as prime minister.

The award also recognises the extremely close relationship that developed between Mr Howard and President Bush who dubbed the former Australian PM as a man of steel.

"Yes, I am honoured by it, more because of the compliment it pays to our country Australia," Mr Howard told ABC Radio.

"It's an indication of the very close relationship between our two countries and I'm very pleased that during the time as prime minister I was able to contribute too."

It was testament to the "very obvious" personal warmth between himself and President George W Bush.

What a wonderful gesture....

The Ontario section of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, headed by Sid Ryan, has announced that CUPE will pass a resolution to boycott Israeli academics from teaching in Canada until and unless they first condemn the bombing of the Hamas-infested university in Gaza and they also condemn the Israeli invasion of Gaza in general.

Ryan promoted a CUPE boycott of Israel before, in 2006, and was ultimately forced to back down by negative public opinion. This time he claims to have grass-roots support - the resolution is being pushed by a Palestinian group.

Ryan and his anti-Semite infested union are an ongoing embarrassment and a growing threat to every decent Canadian.

Exactly. I work for one of the big banks/mortgage companies and we never had any issues with capital - we have been originating and funding loans throughout this "crisis". Granted, the guidelines have stiffened up, but none of my customers had issues with providing documentation for their income and assets, even the self-employed ones. She does need to bulk up some.
On Hannity & Colmes last night, she turned the Colmes liberal smirk back on him & he couldn't stand it.
She treats him kind of like an insect. Those two seem to really dislike each other

I agree,The Jihadidst haven't been able to pull off another attack on the US but on the other hand I think that is partially the reason that London (subway) and Spain (trains) were attacked.

Both those countries have a large ready to go gaggle of would be terrorists - Pakistanis in the UK, and North Africans in Spain - I think those places were always going to be targeted - too easy for them

Whereas the US after 9/11 has managed to stay free from this

By the way, we have 1/4 inch of white slippery global warming on the streets here this morning. Very dangerous driving.

Granted, the guidelines have stiffened up, but none of my customers had issues with providing documentation for their income and assets, even the self-employed ones. They realize this has made us all go back to the way loans were supposed to be given - based on your income/asset/credit profile.

Which means that your Legal Dept. needs to staff up cause the "underprivileged" applicants will start suing under the Community Reinvestment Act once they start getting turned down a lot.

Now now ,,,,,, you KNOW Global Warming has caused Climate Change which is the reason it snowed. The Science is indisputable. The debate is over

Not that I would cheat, how long is the interval from when a person could vote until they could vote again?

Argghhh!

Waking up to yet another biased headline courtesy of my ISP, Comcast.

Today it's Isreal ignores call for cease fire.

Complete with a Palestinian face-palm picture.

Comcast has been relentless with the anti-Israel spin. Do they have a deal with al-Reuters?
